This was one of my favorite Mexican restaurants unfortunately after today I'm sure I won't be the only client they will be losing. This place is under a new management and it's no longer what it use to be. Long time employees are leaving because of the horrible working conditions and environment. It's sad to see as a business you can't appreciate your employees. This long time servers build your clientele and you just turn your back on them. This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend who lives around the corner from this place. She said its a staple in the community and alot of people love to come here. She sold me when she said they have some of the best hand made corn tortillas. I said let me go try it out. walking in to the restaurant I gives off that traditional mexican restaurant vibe. You know the food is going to be good! There really isn't anyone really in the front welcoming and you kinda have to stand around until one of the servers notices you and seats you. Not a big deal for me but if its someones first time coming here can be a bit confused on what to do next or where to sit. But once we got sat the lady that helped us out was super nice and took our drink order pretty quickly. My mom ordered the Machaca (shredded beef with bell peppers and onions) meal with beans and rice. Her meal came with two large handmade corn tortillas. They were cooked perfectly and so good. I ordered the beef taquitos and it came with rice and beans as well. I was a little underwhelmed with my meal. The taquitos could have been fried a little longer and the beef inside had little to no flavor. I had to drench them in salsa to get any flavor to them. The rice and beans tho were really good. A little side note about the location, there were a few homeless people that were hanging out infront of the store and the ladies at one point locked the front door so they wouldnt enter the restaurant. Me and my kids share the birria masisa and the condone is DELICIOUS. The service is always quick. A great local spot.

Took my grandparents there when it wasn't busy so service was nice and the food was delicious!! Even my grandparents who were visiting from Mexico said the caldo de res was amazing. Last week I was here ordered a pozole, I was served a big plate, today I returned a week after and I ordered the same but instead I was served a small plate, so I asked the served what was different she said there was only one size, and I question why they served a small plate for the same price, never the less she blame the cook. Stopped by on Friday (7/21/23) and honestly was disappointed. I had come here during Covid and thought that bad experience was due to many places being limited to type of service they offered. First off NO chips or salsa. What Mexican restaurant does not offer this. I ordered the salsa verde with frijoles de la olla. The beans where given to me on a separate plate because they were de la olla. Beans had no caldo. They were dry for the most part and tasted like they didn't bother removing the film that gathers when you are cooking them. The chile verde and rice where on a different plate with the sauce of the chile verde but on top of the sauce they put the bowl with the side salad. So of course you couldn't eat the sauce after the bowl is sitting right on top. Now the service of the two waitresses that were there was horrible. Seemed they were not having a good Friday afternoon. It was like 4:30 and there was no one there. People started showing up as we were leaving. It's a shame places like these, that have been around for years, have gone downhill due to the service or lack of they offer. read more

I have came here a few times before and decided to leave a review sincerity was a few of us meeting up for lunch. We were seated very quick, our server was very pleasant and came around frequently to check on us. We ordered our food and my order was wrong but our server quickly corrected our order (I was very pleased with her service). We ordered different plates and the feedback from everyone was positive on all the plates, that each had a good flavor and cooked well. I also ordered a fresh cantaloupe water to drink, which was very good. Food was good and service was good as well, the only thing was that they had music playing which was a bit loud that day but if you are okay with load music, then it shouldn't be an issue. The green wet burrito was really good. When I walked in there was a guy playing mariachi music. It wasn't packed but it wasn't completely empty. They do have alcohol beverages as well which was a plus the staff seem very friendly as well. I have been a recurring customer for years at Chalio's Mexican Restaurant off of Atlantic Ave in East Los Angeles, until now. Today, I discovered that now the customer has to pay for the complimentary chips and salsa at the beginning of the dining experience, which has been free since I've been going to that restaurant. I thought the waitress was joking when she said this and asked to speak to the manager. The manager confirmed that chips and salsa, and I have to repeat again, had been free for the last 6 years I've been going there, was now a chargeable item. I became upset and told the manager that their new policy was outrageous and walked out. They lost out on a minimum $60 sale. What made me most upset is that I've spent thousands of dollars throughout the years and the manager just looked at me like she didn't care of my valid complaint. With that said, I can afford to pay for the chips and salsa, but it was out of principle that I left and will not return unless they reverse their "policy" of charging for chips and salsa. And an public apology from the owner as other customers there saw this unfortunate embarrassment. For now, I will be enjoying a delicious lunch at my new favorite Mexican restaurant, Little México on Whittier Boulevard in Montebello., where they provide a nice serving of FREE chips and salsa and the service is so much more pleasant then Chalio's Mexican Restaurant. read more

I checked in to use a coupon for 5 dollars off but the waitress said we cannot allow for the use of that coupon.
