Best place to get Desi coffee and cuisine. Chai Ho Jai is one of the more ethnic cafes in Naperville. It certainly isn't one of the more usual. Has a pretty authentic feel about it. The teas are the main thing, but there's a few things to eat including chaats and more. A small place but still big enough for groups. It's actually loud. There was a table full of girls who ran their mouths non stop and screeching at the top of their lungs for like forever it seems. A place where customers order at the counter. It's about $5 for chai, which comes in a few flavors. A great looking one is the Pink Kashmiri Chai. Tasted great too. It was slightly floral and milky. There's a good menu with authentic stuff. It's about $9 for a puri plate. The one we got was the Bombay Sev. Also they have lots of classics. There's many paranths with cheese, chicken, or vegetables. Also they have a weekend brunch. There's quite a few things to choose among with various levels of spiciness. For sure it's most popular for the teas but you can also get plenty to eat. I have been to this place a couple of times and it's always packed! It's nice to be able to go to a place with cafe vibes later in the evening and stay till 12:30 am! The food was pretty good, we got the aloo paratha, laccha paratha, butter chicken sandwich and butter paneer sandwich. I also like the chai and the lassi in here. The staff seems overworked though. I loved this desi cafe! With family we visited from out of town searching for an authentic Desi taste and they delivered. We ordered club sandwiches, a chicken boti roll, aloo and qheema parathay, bun kabob, and a butter chicken panini. Everything we ordered was decent but the parathas really stood out. Here's all the pros as to why I rated it 5 star: - Phenomenal aloo and qheema parathas - cooked fresh, chewy and just so tasty - Chai - authentic and tasty, right ratio of milk to chai and balanced amount of sugar. Very disappointing experience. When this place first opened, the food quality was actually quite good, but something seems to have changed over time. whether it's the management or the kitchen, I'm not sure. The service has become poor, the food lacks freshness and flavor, and the overall quality has dropped significantly. The parathas taste like they were taken straight out of a frozen packet and reheated. Almost every dish gives the impression that corners are being cut while customers are being charged premium prices. What was once a promising restaurant now feels like a complete waste of money. Even the tea was extremely ordinary..just like the rushed cup of tea anyone could make at home in a few minutes. Unfortunately, there was nothing memorable about the food or the service. One of the newer tea places (and coffee) in the area. This has a Pakistani style chai (tea) and food items. They are in a strip mall. It's a clean establishment with plenty of parking and enough tables for a decent sit down experience. Above average ambiance setting. Being a new place it was busy. One thing I immediately liked about this place was their extended late night hours. We ordered their Zafrani Cahi (Slow Cooked Saffron Black Tea With Cream). It was really good, perfect flavor and amazing aroma. We ordered their Paratha (fried bread) with malai and honey. Which was pretty good. Finally we ordered their chicken panini sandwich, that was one of the best panini sandwiches we had in a very long time. Food in general was really good. Being a new place they were very busy so it took us a bit to get a table. I am expecting it to settle down over time. Overall a really good experience, great tea/coffee and amazing food. I stopped by at this location a week ago and loved the concept. We fortunately got seats in the fluffy chairs at the location, which had cute pillows and a very homey feeling. As for the food, we got a kettle of the "Mumbai Cutting" chai, the Aloo Paratha, and the CHJ Loaded Fries. The chai was incredible with the perfect amount of spice for me. The aloo paratha was very thick and filling, but delicious with a side of chutney. The fries were a bit too cheesy for my liking, but the CHJ sauce on the fries was fantastic! We finally tried Chai Ho Jai. We went at 1 pm on a Sunday afternoon, but they said lunch items were not available until 2:30 pm! That was annoying. We had to select from the breakfast menu. You order and pick up at the counter. We ordered a pink Kashmiri tea, a karak milk tea, and a beef kabab fry set (plus one to go). The teas were decent, especially the pink Kashmiri. The beef fry was basic ground beef and paratha (bread) that we ate while growing up...served in a paper plate. It's not that it was bad, but it's overpriced. I guess for people not in our culture, they will think it's something unique or exotic. For the to-go beef fry we got for my parents, they didn't even include the onions or chutney; it was just ground beef and bread. Our total bill was $52. The interior is rather cramped. Thankfully they don't blast the music, but the sound of conversation is boisterous. You have to speak up for your table mates to be able to hear you. All tables were taken, but thankfully one family was wrapping up, so we circled their table like vultures. :p Overall, not impressed. I intend for this feedback to reach management so they can tweak their business and improve service. We drove 1 hour to visit this new spot. At first glance, it was packed like sardines. The chairs were pulled left and right and people were everywhere. There was no table management, and no staff picking up trash/cleaning. Huge families were hoarding every nook and cranny. We decided immediately to take our food and chai to-go. We stood in the order line for 30mins and then 15mins in the pickup line. They had no change in the register. The owner was running around frustrated and flustered, and in turn was rude to customers. I did notice him being friendly to the large Pakistani parties. Chai is made on the front counter and was an incredibly slow and inefficient operation. One poor guy was making chai in vats not big enough to serve the amount of business being generated. The back counter was a huge, unpleasant mess. They really need to organize and work well. It was an embarrassing look for a business. I daw heavy cream and milk sitting on the room temp counter for at LEAST an hour. I liked the paratha but the chai left something to be desired. Tried this place on a friday night with my husband. We live in Wheaton and we drove like 15 miles to try it. We ordered Aloo Parantha, Aloo Tikki Panini, Mumbia Cutting Chai and Masala Soda on Steroids. We were served our food after 40 mins of ordering it, moreover the drinks took longer than the food and was served to us after the food. The taste for the Aloo Parantha wasn't that great and it was burnt. The Aloo Tikki Panini was fine though. I didn't like the Mumbai Cutting Chai. Masala Soda was just ok. The Chais are kept on electric burner so these are continuously reheated rather than being served fresh. The place was quite disorganized and they didn't have enough seating space to handle the rush. Chai Ho Jai is one of the newest snacks and chai establishments that has opened in the Chicago suburbs. This is my second visit and it wasn't difficult to find a table during a Saturday afternoon. The first time, I had the Anda Wala Bun Kabab and my friends ordered the Qheema Paratha. Both dishes were flavorful and I didn't feel super stuffed. We did have the Karak Doodh Pati Chai and I thought it was a little bland. My second visit though, everything was great and now I know exactly what to order! We had the Bihari Kabab Panini, Loaded Fries, and Lachay Dar Paratha with Malai. We also added the Mango Lassi and Berry Lassi. Adding the drinks was refreshing and I loved the sweet and salty combination in the drink. Loaded fries were amazing and I would definitely ask to put a little more jalapeños. The panini was flavorful but the parathas is amazing here so will order the roll next time. We had the Mumbai Cutting Chai this time and it was so much better! Perfect late lunch during MDW. You do order at the counter and the place is casual but the decor is pretty. I would definitely bring my tourist guests here. This place is not HMS certified yet. We just stopped by to try this place out and WOW it was packed! It's exciting to see a new desi place flourish and gain popularity however you can tell the team is overwhelmed by the amount of orders/overall rush. Theres definitely room to grow in this aspect but the ambiance and aesthetic of the place is very nicely done. We ordered the Kashmiri Chai and Chocolate dessert - chai was good, i think it could have been a little sweeter and maybe creamier (felt slightly watery). I would probably skip the nuts in the drink as well. They did mention that to go orders would be done faster if you show your receipt to the server but you need to stay on top of it to get your items fast. The chocolate dessert was yummy but absolutely tiny for the price - i would skip this next time. Will go back to try the ras malai tres leches and paratha with malai (was told it would take 30-40 min to make the paratha). Looking forward to seeing this place grow. read more

I would definitely give a 5 star for service and ambiance. Yes, it was crowded but thats just the way it is for a newer restaurant. No complaints there. I was disappointed with the desi style Chai as I saw them pouring cans of Carnation evaporated milk. I personally found that disgusting. I just want to bring visibility to that fact. If you like that its made out of carnation milk, thats fine. Enjoy the chai, but I would have rather mine made the traditional way with boiled milk. read more

I've been patiently waiting for this place to open as it's right around the corner from my house. Let me start by saying that they are working through the usual new "startup" issues. Wrong orders, long wait time, etc. Typically due to this, I would generally rate a restaurant a 3 or lower stars if things were really bad. In this case I'm giving them a 5 stars because they are actually trying, they are friendly, they didn't take the usual "Desi shortcuts" with the ambiance/setup. Everything is clean and presentable. Be warned that the dining area is really crammed, as for the tables/chairs. As for the food, it's delicious based on what I've tried so far, see pics. I'm looking forward to trying other items over the next few visits. If you are coming in and you see they are busy (which they have been), be patient and allow them to work through the start up phase. Hopefully that will be quick and they can have a successful business for many years to come. read more

I really wanted to like this place. My expectation is if chai is in your name you would have amazing chai. We spent 15 bucks on 3 chais, and ended up tossing our chai out once it cooled down. I make much better chai at home. There really isnt any standard process to their chai. And regarding ambiance , the place is cute but unfortunately limited seating. We were going to get food but it looked like it was going to take more than 1hr 20minutes for snacks and there was no tables available. They have a great selection, but have availability problems. The gulab jamun cheesecake is completely pre-made and half frozen in a fridge by the counter. Chai is decent, not Kawah house level, but given what's available in Naperville it's a solid choice. If you come in the evening, you'll be waiting at least 30-40 mins for an order with food. Nice decor. Good place for locals to catch up over tea. Maxixmum occupancy allowed is 40 due to sq footage. This needs to be enforced. We visited as a group of seven on Saturday evening (~9:00 pm). Sit down setup is meant for 2 to 4 people group. In the unfortunate event of spillage of hot beverage pot, there are no handy napkins (Luckily no injuries). Service is good. A lady was promptly attending tables (wipe down, clear out) as soon as patrons left. Snacks ordered were freshly prepared (Kheema paratha, malai paratha, masala cheese fries, garlic fries). One of the owners, Kiran- helped us navigate the menu. She had a good sense of humor and was easy to work with. Kashmiri tea did not meet our expectations. We have had better experience with other places in suburbs. Pot of karak chai was enough to go around. They dont add sugar to pot, which is good. Guests can add as per their requirements. The taste of chai was decent. If I ever go back, it would be during weekday afternoons. Sit down chai places are for chat and chill. It needs a little calmer surrounding for that. Over one hour for two cups of tea, when approached with an idea that their POS software needs tweaking where people with only tea orders & people with snacking orders should be tiered the owner rudely stated he is busy & don't have time for my input, I kept my cool and respectfully requested to cancel my order for two cup of teas for which I waited over one hour at 8pm on Monday night, without any regrets they refunded my $11 Very disappointed with the staff, they guy who was pouring tea was super slow and over worked as he was doing stretching and pounding his shoulders as he worked for straight 10 hours, the lady on the cash register was truly genuine as she was the only one felt sorry for their time management and disorder. read more

As a South Asian, I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to visit Chai Ho Jai. I believe they were open for just 2 weeks when we visited so there were A LOT of misses but a new place, you have to have some grace and allow them to find their rhythm. Their teas were exceptional. I rarely drink chai because I like a milk heavy chai; not many places serve those. They actually offer a doodh patti. WOOOOHOOOOO. LOVED IT. Everyone in our group liked the tea. The food; I really don't know what to say. I believe the place is owned by folks from Pakistan and since I've never been to Pakistan, I cannot speak to the authenticity of the food. Any Pakistani reading this, would appreciate if you would leave a comment and let me know your opinions. I ordered the bun kabab. Honestly, I didn't care for it at all. For me, the proportions of the sauces, chutney, etc. was just off. There was no melody in my mouth. We had also ordered a pizza paratha I believe. That had way way way too much cheese and not much vegetables. In my opinion, they could/should go easy on the cheese and have a bit more veggies. The fries were exceptional. The folks working here were very warm. I am of the thought that if the folks running a place are warm and friendly, they can take constructive criticism and there's a chance for the food. I will try Chai Ho Jai again at least one more time but after a while once they have their bearings in place. I am having a tough time writing the place off cause the folks were really friendly and warm. The space inside is decorated so beautifully.
