We came here, four of us, after a day at the Aleyeska Spa. It's a bar that serves food. Nothing fancy. We were seated promptly. The waitress was pouring water into our glasses - kind of. She was pouring out of the side instead of the spout. There was no ice in the pitcher. She was dumping half of the water all over the table. She brought us napkins for the water mess but not extras for our hands. Otherwise the service was good. I had the quesadilla that was amazing. Aside from the water issue, it was good. I would go back if we lived there

Great food! Our table of 8 was split into 2 booths. We ordered the chair 5 Margaritas (good!), cheesy bread as an appetizer, a bowl of chili, coconut shrimp, fried halibut, wings, and a bacon blue cheese burger! All was great and came out quickly!

If you don't want to spend your time sitting inside of a building while you're in Alaska, do not visit this place. We have four kids and it took an hour and 20 minutes to get our food. We ended up getting it to go. We had to grab our own seltzers from the fridge next to the bar because the waitress never brought them to us. After an hour of waiting, we requested our food in to go boxes and it still took another 20 minutes. I better not fail to mention they forgot my son's chowder in the to-go bags. Great atmosphere- terrible service.

Chair 5 a bar place in Girdwood. We walked in and no one greeted us for sometime. There were people dining but I guess not much employees at this place. It took several minutes until someone noticed us. We get seated and the hostess said they were so busy. She did kinda explained why maybe service was slow. We only ordered burgers. They came and it was ok. Nothing really to brag about but at least it was decent enough to eat. The bleu cheeseburger was so bad that my husband just barely ate it. Nothing fancy about this place. A little too dark, not that great or clean.

Food, bad quality and badly prepared. We had lunch here today at 2:30 pm. Burger is less than 8 oz (as advertised). Burger meat blend itself is dry. Burger overcooked. Waiter said all cooked to medium---not this one. It was not seasoned. Bacon strip was cold. French fries weren't enough, warm, looked like the leftover from the bottom of the pile. Each burger is $20!...c'mon!!! No hostess, appeared in 10 minutes. Seating took another 10 minutes. She and waiter were nice and apologetic. The restaurant decor was okay, looked like a rustic bar...nothing wrong with it. For sure, I won't be back.

Came here on a Sunday afternoon for some lunch. Upon entry we could see a number of open tables, however none of them were cleared off from the previous patrons. Therefore, when we arrived we had to wait 15 minutes for the bartender to come out and clear off all of the tables for us to be seated. The atmosphere was loud and there were several kids running around the restaurant screaming. The server/bartender took 20 minutes to come take our order and we noticed him taking orders from other tables around us that had come after we had arrived. We had to wait an additional 25 minutes for the food to be served. The "chicken Alfredo" was horrendous, I have never seen that much oil at the bottom of a plate of chicken Alfredo. It was almost as if they completely substituted out the sauce for oil. Will never be coming back!! Parking: Free

I was about ready to write off the experience as someone's bad day, but then the bill came with a 20 percent gratuity for a large party.

Worst dining experience in my life at Girdwood's Chair 5 tonight. Six of our party of 9 were served relatively promptly. Three others -- our guests from Mexico -- were not served at all. About the time the first 6 were finishing, waiter came over and told one of the three that they didn't have the ingredients to cook her coconut shrimp dinner and asked if she would like to order something else. Sadly, all this woman wanted when first ordering was a bowl of clam chowder, but we were told they were out when we got there. Also, no tortilla chips for nachos. She graciously changed order to a burger because it would be fast. Burger came out and the other two had STILL not been served. It was 45 minutes after the first six were served and 15 minutes after everyone had finished. The last 2 canceled their orders. Bill came out and they rightly didn't charge for the last 3, including the burger that had to be reordered. But they added a 20 percent gratuity for a large party! I'm THROUGH with Chair 5, Girdwood Alaska

Big downgrade from what this place used to be. Apparently the restaurant has changed ownership very recently. We have come twice this past week or so, and everything has been below average across the board. We got shrimp tacos and the shrimp isn't seasoned. Like, at all. Nor is it grilled... I think it may have been poached and chilled, then put the in the taco. The shells are raw tortillas, not homemade, not hot. The tacos are loaded with raw largely chunked pieces of red onion. Terribly sad dish. I do not recommend. On our last visit we got a pizza, The Italian I think. It was served to us stale and COLD. Like, maybe it had been sitting around for an hour. I would've sent it back but we were with a large group of people and I just didn't want to spoil the mood. The waitstaff have been humdrum. Not much etiquette, somewhat blasé. The last young man we got did not care enough or was simply inept in the task of splitting a 3-way bill. The final straw for us was when my husband got sick for 2 days likely from the dirty beer taps here. Very very sad to see this once reputable restaurant leave such a dismal taste in our mouth.

Amazing buffalo wings, always a good atmosphere. My friend ordered the $31 halibut and we weren't very impressed with the portion for the price

The place was small but it's not busy season yet so we were seated quickly and the food was served in a reasonable amount of time. I read another review that said the place smelled like smoke, and while it did smell a little like fry oil, I feel like the smell went away and the food and company far outweighed any odd smells. We had the mussels, crab legs, salmon dip, grilled halibut, stuffed mushrooms and Cesar salad. It was all great!

**POOR SERVICE BY THE OWNER: GROUP OF ARRIVING CRUISE CUSTOMERS**…read moreWe arrived in Anchorage after a wonderful 9-day cruise and decided to stop by Basecamp Eatery with a group of 22 people around 1 p.m. The young lady serving us was very friendly and accommodating. Our group leader had previously tried to make a reservation, but the restaurant advised us simply to come in. To streamline the ordering process, we used the menu on their website to place our orders before arriving but that did not work out. Upon our arrival and after being seated, the initial service from the young lady was pleasant. However, I noticed a change when the owner arrived and began serving some of us. The first issue I encountered was a price discrepancy of about $5.00 between the website menu and the in-restaurant menu. This discrepancy made it seem as if there was one menu for tourists and another for locals. The owner was not friendly at all; he failed to inform us, as most waitstaff would, that there would be an upcharge for certain items offered as part of the meal. When he asked, "Do you want chowder or chips?" he neglected to mention that a tiny cup of chowder cost $5.00 more, which was not worth it. Instead, he acted as if it was included in our meal until you got your bill, which is deceptive. His demeanor was cold and uncaring, and it seemed he simply wanted us to leave based on how he treated us. After delivering the food, he never returned to check on us and simply handed us the bill in a detached manner. When I questioned him about the $5.00 upcharge, he pointed to the small print on the menu without saying a word. Others in our group experienced similar treatment from him. As a managing director for a major airline with over 36 years of travel experience, I have never encountered such poor and deceptive behavior as I did at Basecamp Eatery. It seemed like he truly had a problem with customers like us. I shared my experience with our bus driver and the travel company we booked with, expressing my dissatisfaction with the restaurant. I recommended that they NEVER bring customers back to this establishment. Keep in mind that our group spent over $600 at this business, and this was the treatment we received.

Due to the crush of guests, we couldn't get a table so we opted for take-out. We took a chance on the Bibimap (sp?). It was an appropriate dish for an at home meal, but without the heated bowl it comes in. On the way back from Homer we stopped again in Girdwood, this time with a reservation! Our server seated us in the romantic Garden Room", which we always opt for. This garden room is cozy, beautiful and the guests seated there have always been friendly and interesting. We all seem to treat that room like the proverbial "family" room! We started of with a tasting of a wine we wern't familiar with, and which I still can't remember its name! Our server (Blanca) was a true four star waitress. Intelligent, friendly, observant of our needs, and even those that we didn't know we needed! She took the time, even though the restaurant was packed, to clarify the menu, listen to our bragging about our 59th anniversary. She made the whole evening more joyful that we had even hoped it would be. We ordered the Filet Mignon, as per her Recommendation, and topped it with a bottle of Silver Oak. The meat, Blanca explained to us, was from a specific farm in the US. We've eaten lots of filets in lots of restaurants, but this one was right at the top of the heap. At our age this is "dangerous" as we could opt more often for the beef, than the healthier foods Jack Sprat has to offer. Dessert was the "simple" chocolate mouse. Yep, lieke everything else we ordered that night, it was an excellent topper off. We've had several meals over the years at Jack Sprats. We think, like the Silver Oak, they are getting better with age. Yep, we'lll be back, Jack!

We did get the dip bread appetizer about 15 minutes after ordering which helped. Then we waited another full hour after finishing it before our food arrived. The food was inconsistent. The chow fun noodles were undercooked. More like al dente pasta which does not work for a Chinese dish. The burgers came with fries that were cold and hard. They did fix that quickly and brought fresh fries which were much better. The wagyu burger was the biggest disappointment. The meat tasted very gamey. That is not what you expect from wagyu which should be rich and buttery. I ended up trying to cover the taste with toppings just to eat it. Not enjoyable. Our child did enjoy her grass fed beef burger and had no complaints. The atmosphere is great. Live music adds a nice touch. We also liked the shop next door and the outdoor wood fire. We like this place and wanted it to be a great experience. The food and timing just missed the mark this time. Hoping they improve because the setting is really nice.

If food alone was what I'm rating, this place would be a 3 or 4. I, myself, ordered the French toast breakfast with poached eggs and bacon. The food was fitting and definitely delicious. Price is a little iffy for the amount given, but the quality of the food was amazing. My family liked their food as well. However, removing the food aspect from the equation, the service was a bit off putting. From a simple glance around the room, there was a CLEAR difference how our table was treated in contrast to other tables from the way we were spoken to, checked on, and assisted, and I am sad to say it was not in a good way. I hope that this is a one time thing where the woman who assisted us was having a bad day, but with her showing kindness to other tables, but appearing as if we were a drag to assist throughout the whole meal, it's quite a disheartening feeling. Spectacular scenery is everywhere, so don't expect the view alone to justify the cost. Our dinner was one of the biggest disappointments of our entire trip. We were celebrating our friends' 30th wedding anniversary, making the evening especially meaningful. Our bill was over $1,700 for our group, and not one person at our table said they even liked their meal. Several dishes were barely edible. My scallop soup contained one scallop that was not fully cooked and a tiny piece of cracker. The gazpacho was overwhelmingly spicy. The beet salad was served over scattered drops of horseradish that weren't even applied consistently from one plate to another, making the dish feel careless and unbalanced. The main courses were average at best. Some people didn't even finish their filet mignon, which should be one of the easiest dishes for a restaurant of this caliber to get right. The desserts were just as disappointing. No one finished theirs, and no one had anything positive to say about them. The service was equally unacceptable. Before dinner even began, one of our friends quietly asked the waiter if he could please bring a candle with the anniversary dessert to help celebrate the couple's 30th wedding anniversary. It was the very first request made after we were seated, yet it was completely overlooked. The desserts arrived with no candle, no acknowledgment of the occasion, and no apology. It may seem like a small detail, but it reflected the lack of attentiveness we experienced throughout the evening. Our waiter repeatedly reached across guests instead of serving properly, refused to clear plates himself because he wanted the bus staff to do it, and the overall service felt slow, awkward, and very unprofessional. Even though the restaurant wasn't busy, every part of the meal seemed to take far longer than it should have. What really confirmed that it wasn't just us was talking to the family seated next to us--a group of 14--who felt exactly the same way about both the food and the service. I consider myself a true foodie. I love trying new restaurants and cuisines, and I'm far from being a picky eater. I almost never write negative reviews, but this experience was simply unacceptable. I had heard this restaurant was a "must-do" while visiting the area, which made the experience even more disappointing. In my opinion, it's simply not worth the money. I wouldn't even recommend paying to ride the tram just to dine here, because you'll find breathtaking scenery all over Alaska without spending hundreds of dollars on a meal that falls far short of expectations. I sincerely hope this review helps other travelers avoid making the same very expensive mistake we did.
