I finally got the chance to eat here, so I decided to make a stop for dinner. There was a waitlist to sit in the main dining area, but if you are rolling solo and don't mind, you can get a seat at the bar and get full meal service. The staff is friendly, and the service was prompt. The bartender was on her game. She was very busy but still had a good vibe. I ordered the clam chowder as my app and the teriyaki grilled salmon with rice and broccoli as my main course. The clam chowder was good. The teriyaki salmon, rice, and veggie medley were also pretty good. This is a restaurant, but also a sportsbar. Flat screen TV's are hung on every wall and above the bar as well. The bartenders and wait staff are super attentive & pleasant! We started with some fried calamari - super good, not too breaded and the squid was cooked well && fresh. The husband friend got a blue salad - holy cats it was HUGE! It had blue cheese dressing on it and topped with crunchy tortilla ribbons. Came here on a Tuesday night and there wasn't much of a crowd. We were greeted and seated immediately and I found the staff very polite and nice. The ambiance is your typical bar and grill look and feel - large bar, high tables, lots of wood but not overly rustic and very functional. I ordered half a BLT and the Perfect Gimlet. I immediately thought how much I would love it if other restaurants offered half a sandwich at night or small portion sizes because it really was perfect! The bacon was nice and crunchy. The sourdough bread was awesome with the right amount of mayo and lettuce. Everything was perfectly balanced. The fries were delectable. Crunchy on the outside and soft on the in, very nicely seasoned. Now let's talk about that gimlet! Sure, I was a bit skeptical as I have had mixed experience with gimlets but when done right they're great. This gimlet lived up to its name. I want to like this restaurant, because their waitstaff is absolutely great. Seating is perfect and plentiful, plus they get you in and out during lunch hours. These reason alone are why I gave them 3 stars, but here's the kicker, the food is so inconsistent. One week, you'll go there, and their Rueben has enough meat that you feel like you're getting your moneys worth, and then a week later, you have to open the sandwich to make sure there's actually meat on the sandwich. Some days, their fries are amazingly crunchy and cooked to perfection, but the next week, they're a completely different style of fry that's soggy and unappetizing. I know, I know, turnover rates and different cooks are probably the issue, but consistency is key for repeat customers....... read more

The shrimp were breaded and seasoned nicely, came with cocktail sauce. Tarot tots were crispy. The Mac and cheese was actually really good. Big penne noodles, stringy cheese without the grainy texture. Had Parmesan crumbs on top. Next time I'll get that as a meal and they have options to had protein and other items. Boyfriend got the folly burger and said it was pretty good. Second time I got the beer battered cod with French fries. The fish wasn't very crispy but probly because of getting it to go. French fries were crispy. No tartar sauce came with it which was a bummer. Boyfriend got the black and blue burger. Wasn't as good as the folly he said. Burger tasted different, not as juicy. We also got cheese curds which were pretty good, light crispy batter with Parmesan sprinkled on top. Both times they said 20-25 minutes waiting time. Service is very quick for a pretty busy restaurant! The place seems to be a sports type bar with TV screens showing various games throughout the dining area. It has 2 massive bars on either side of the restaurant so you have easy access to your favorite beverages!! Food came relatively fast as well and we had a party of 5. Hand sanitizer was available. the majority of the staff had mask on but some had it only covering the mouth and not nose. some staff took it off to talk. Good place to eat if you're looking for someplace that's open late. Great menu selection - has just about every type of food you might be craving, whether you want an appetizer while you're drinking or a more filling, fancier meal. Our server Gavin was very friendly and entertaining - brought a more warm and welcoming aura to the sports bar themed diner. This place has been on my "to visit list" for far too long, two days ago, I decided to fix that. (you like how I used all the to/too/two's in one sentence?!) I dined in the bar with a climbing partner and was largely impressed. The beer selection is good, but not great. Lots of taps, I just wish there were even more local options, or at least some more IPA's. The bar has a very "sports bar" feel, which may be a pro or con depending on what you're looking for. For food, I got the Ribeye. It was reasonably priced and delicious! It was also very well-plated (i.e. it was pretty!) I ordered it rare, and it was definitely medium-rare, but I kind of expect that at most places. This place is also very easy to eat low carb/keto at, if that's your thing. read more

update: I talked to someone goes there often and they knew the exact server I was talking about and verbatim "oh yeah she sucks. She's really bad at serving" there was also a group behind us who were there for an hour longer than we were and they still didn't have their food yet and getting ready to also just leave. The server never came up to talk to them to let them know anything or get them more drinks. I wish I could give this place a zero. Horrible service. The people who host have no idea what they are doing. We got there and the hostess said that it would be a 10 minute wait and we ended up waiting 40 minutes. That should've been our first sign. We should've left But we tried to give the benefit of the doubt but that should have been our first clue to leave. I never mind waiting at restaurants because I understand things get busy but don't give someone a 10 minute wait time and take 30 minutes longer than that only to then have a waitress who sucks. The waitress who was helping us never came to our table besides to take our order. We sat there for over 40 minutes just waiting for food. So did everyone else on that patio. She was rude. It's one thing to come up to the table and let us know the kitchen is running behind but she never did they. She never came to give us more drinks. I've came here 4 times in past couple of years and each time has sucked. There so much better restaurants in anchorage that will actually come to your table and give you some water when you run out. I stopped by here a couple of Mondays ago with my father for some drinks and an appetizer around dinner time. Since that was all that we wanted, we entered in through the bar entrance and took a seat at the bar. The bar area of Sewards Folly was pretty nice with a U shaped bar in the center and some high top tables all around it. There were TVs all around with one huge one right in the middle behind the bar. They were having issues with it on this day and while we were watching the Tour De France, it turned off on its own. Thankfully, a couple of the other TVs had it on and they were eventually able to get it back on. For my drink on this evening I went with a sockeye red IPA while my dad went with a local cider. It was actually quite nice to see the number of local choices which they had. Then for our split appetizer we decided on the calamari. It came out within a reasonable time period and I was happy to see that it was calamari steaks instead of the tubes and rings. My first bite was a little chewy and I was wondering what I had gotten myself into. Thankfully the rest of it was cooked perfectly which impressed me. The breading on it was quite good too and tasted like a combination of crackers and Parmesan cheese. It was good enough that I ended up cleaning up the leftovers from the plate whenever the calamari was gone. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I'm so happy they opened back up after being closed last month. I tried the Buffalo crispy chicken wrap with sweet potato fries and it was amazing! I could only eat half the wrap it was so huge. A lot of places give smaller portions for similar prices. These sweet potato fries are some of the best in town! Crispy and seasoned to perfection. I think I'll try pasta on my next visit! read more

Food has improved, service is consistent, ambiance is nothing special. It seems there is a large regulars crowd.

To this day, I still love this place! It's definately my #1 go-to restaurant for just a casual meal and drinks. I enjoy the atmosphere and the staff are always welcoming. Now yes, they do have peak times where you may have to wait to be seated. But, there is pretty much always space at either bar if you aren't looking for a table. And during the summer months they open up the patio seating. All in all, if you're not sure where to dine and want a casual family-friendly atmosphere and good food, this is where it's at! :) read more
