I am really not impressed with the food in Pittsburgh. Living in houston really has me spoiled. We have the best food in the nation. What can you expect when eating at the air port tho. The general taos was decent. Bourbon chicken was off. Very greasy. Just low quality crap food. That will make you feel like crap. I would definitely never eat at this place again. Sorry for the harsh low reviews but this is simply the truth. Customer service: Geiger the customer was great! They did a really good job at getting us in and out very quickly. Very friendly and very nice. I could probably give them a 3 stars as their customer was great. The food was just lacking quality. Most definitely will not be back here. Would rather have fast food. I wanted a small meal before heading out on an afternoon flight. After a smoothie at McDonald's this little restaurant caught my eye. It is a classic pick your entree "buffet" line with several classic options (tofu, general tsos, etc.). Employees were all friendly and helpful, service was fast and food was hot and fresh. I travel weekly through Pittsburgh International airport and either stop at Chai's or Marathon Diner for lunch. I order off the menu at Chai's-Shrimp with mixed vegetables and it is delicious, fresh and hot every time! I love the fresh vegetables done to perfection-not soggy and the large and generous amount of shrimp. I absolutely hate restaurants that advertise a shrimp dish and use little salad shrimp in the entree. The shrimp are always fresh and never fishy tasting as I have experienced with folks using old shrimp-yuck! They also offer up quite a view buffet style selections. When ordering off the menu it usually takes less than 10 minutes for them to prepare. read more

This little fast food stop is located in the corner of the food court just past the Italian place.. The was no line, as it was breakfast time and they had the lunch food out. On my way over, I was jonesing for some ono fried rice. And that they had. That's all I really wanted, but all their food looked very fresh. I opted for the General's Chicken to go with my rice. The white meat is $1 more, but I'm more of a dark meat guy, so I stayed with that. Everything was very tasty. The service was very friendly. The entire layout was surprisingly clean and well maintained. That, itself, gives me the feeling that they take pride in their food too. They had a nice selection of dishes and soups. Like, I said, it all looked freshly made and good. I had to walk away before I got something else. ;) I'll definitely be back next time I come through Pittsburgh. read more

Quick, cheap, and yummy!! We were starving after our flight and saw a guy eating general gao's chicken. I asked where he got it and good thing I did! It was a little tricky to find because it's tucked behind a wall due to construction (March 2019). Total came to $9.50 with tax! The special had a drink included along with rice and a generous portion of general gao's chicken. Good find for airport food. read more

I have been eating at this Restaurant in the Pittsburgh airport for 20 years now. This is by far the BEST Asian food at any airport I've been to in the Us or Hawaii. If you come through the Burgh don't miss out. I judge all General Tso's and Hot and sour soup by theirs! read more

Chai's Pittsburgh Fusion is the new kid on the block for me. I normally don't head over this way but since I was here for an event we decided to check them out. Today they were serving sushi, with green seaweed, and hot dipping sauce. We also got one of those packaged fortune cookies. It was good but like pretty much anything else seemed like it was store bought and made as a Chinese fast food place. For vegans however, they do offer a choice of vegetable roll, tofu with vegetables, and the seaweed salad I already mentioned. I got to try out Chai's Pittsburgh Fusion counter while at a food tasting event for Yelp at the airport. I sampled two types of sushi rolls- California roll and a (tuna?) roll. I also got to sample a side of seaweed salad. First- the sushi. It was standard sushi - the rice was perfectly cooked, and both rolls tasted very fresh. I could pick out all of the ingredients and they were rolled pretty well & held their shape. The seaweed salad was wonderful. I have tried this dish at many different places - cheap Chinese takeout, higher end restaurants, and buffets. Some are good and some are just awful. The one at Chai's was exceptional - it's a very standard seaweed salad but I can't deny that it was very fresh and flavorful, perfect consistency, and visually appealing. It was my favorite part of the meal. One downside is they didn't give me chopsticks and I didn't even realize until I found a seat down the hall in the food court area. It was pretty hard to eat seaweed salad without chopsticks but I managed. The other downside is I didn't see any fancier types of sushi. Even if they just make one special roll of the day/week that is a bit elevated with sauces, roe, or different combinations of flavors, I think it would make this counter more interesting and draw people in, especially because it's kind of at the end of the row of food options and at a slight disadvantage. All-in-all, I enjoyed my experience. If I wasn't already getting full from all of the tasting, I would have tried their hot foods because they all looked so delicious. Also I must add that the establishment was spotlessly clean - from counter to floor! Chai's can offer you simple, fresh, and tasty Chinese hot dishes & sushi items while waiting for your flight. I got some egg drop soup and a 2-entree combo (you can pick 2 entrees and one side...sides include lo mein, fried rice, and "spicy" (not spicy) rice noodles). I got the rice noodles with chicken with broccoli and "spicy" (again, not spicy) tofu. Everything was flavorful and served hot. The man serving was friendly and appropriate, efficient at his job. My boo got the 2-entree combo with rice noodles, general tso's chicken, and chicken with mushrooms. He liked all of his, too! He was bummed bourbon chicken was out; we were in too much of a hurry to make a flight to wait for it to be made. They also have sushi, but we didn't try any of that. Total price: $18 for a meal for 2, including one egg drop soup and 2 2-entree combos. Overall a good, solid airport option! I stopped here for the yelp passport tour and it was my first stop on the trip. They served us sushi and a seaweed salad with a cookie and wasabi. It was cool to see the guy making everything there in front of you. The taste of the rolls didn't seem high quality or have much flavor but I feel it's what you would expect from fast food rolls at a airport. The seaweed now was delicious it was very flavorful and not overly salty as some others are. The staff where friendly but did not mention much about the dishes or who they are as a company. Located in the Pittsburgh airport, this little eatery is located in the Food Court around the corner so easy to miss. I ordered the Curry Tofu with Vegetables. Since seating is around the corner I sat at the counter here. The food came pretty quickly and was extremely hot so I know it was fresh. Got impatient and decided to try out Chai's Pittsburgh fusion, and like expecting five star dining at a sporting event I probably asked too much in hoping for high quality Chinese food at an airport. I appreciated the dinner special where I could get white meat general tso chicken, steamed rice and a large drink for $8.88, you won't find a better full meal price in the airport, however it wasn't worth it. I got what was certainly less than an entree portion of chicken, maybe 8 pieces and a whole lot of rice which was crunchy. The drink was fine but ask for light ice or ignore the word "large". I will note that the staff did feel especially friendly so nothing was bad about my experience other than the food part, which is typically the part that matters. Never much of a line here, and I travel a ton, but it's a bit clear why now. Ultimately not so bad if you really just want a deal, something filling, don't have time for a line and want to be greeted with a smile, but otherwise id say try something different. read more
