I had been wanting to try this place and having been I'm very surprised by all the five star reviews. It was fine but I'll echo what some other reviews said: the food was not super flavorful but quite salty, the portions were pretty meager for the price, and I don't like that the (expensive) mains didn't come with any sides. I don't know if I can speak about the usual experience here ordering a la carte because I was here as a guest at a large catered event. However, apparently this restaurant's way of doing a large catered event is to serve literally the entire menu in sequence over the course of several hours paired with an excellent selection of wines. Service was great, though definitely leisurely; then again, you can't rush that kind of a culinary marathon. The staff were attentive and hospitable and the spread was beautiful. It was hard to gauge what was gluten-free and I had to verify -- though having the menus updated to show this would've been helpful. What a lovely place that deserves all the stars! I went there for brunch with my family and was able to find a last-minute reservation. The restaurant is super spacious inside, which feels like a breath of fresh air amidst the cramped NYC restaurant scene. The staff were all super kind, attentive, and knowledgeable. They have an open kitchen where you can see how the food is made by their wonderfully talented chefs. I started with the zucchini soup, which was so good--a perfect balance of creamy and soupy. Sitting outside here is absolutely wonderful in the summer, spring and fall. Great people watching. Every single thing on the menu is amazing! If you haven't tried Georgian food... it's time and if you start here you are starting with some of the best. My top favorites are the Georgian salad, ADJARULI KHACHAPURI, and KHINKALI. First off when you enter the restaurant the beauty and intricate details in the decor will take your breath away. Whew. The staff was so courteous and kind. The food came out pretty quickly. I got the IMERULI KHACHAPURI and summer salad for a start. The salad was refreshing and khachapuri was a cheesy delight. Then for the entree I got the chicken salad lunch special that came with a side of crispy potatoes. Im not a huge fan of chicken salad but found the extra texture in the bread used helped bring out a pleasant flavor. This is a great spot in my beloved Brooklyn Heights. Our servers recommended the traditional bread dish with cheese (they crack an egg into it to air it creamier. It was delicious. We also had the eggplant and the dumplings. All together was pretty filling for 2 people. The servers were nice but a little inattentive. I'd never had Georgian food before and was totally blown away. The flavors and textures were very unique and everything was made fresh. Service was excellent and the atmosphere is outstanding. The staff explained each dish, and sometimes even explained the traditional way of eating it. A lovely dining experience. I was surprised how much fresh tarragon tastes like black licorice, which I love, but not everyone did in our party. We tried a shared a variety of things and there were plenty of dishes with less tarragon but it is a featured ingredient in many of the dishes. We shared a bunch of starters and not pictured we shared the cabbage and chicken main dishes yum! Our drinks were fantastic - mine was very anise-forward with hints of lemongrass. The ambiance here is very good! It reminds me of a wine place but not really. It's just the vibe of it. It's my first time trying Georgian food. We order the Adjaruli Khachapuri and the Meguli Kharcho! The service was good, they sat us down and we were lucky that we didn't need reservations. It did filled up fast though. Overall I think the food was great! The adjaruli was very cheesy! It melts extremely well with the bread. The Meguli was really good! It's chicken made with peanut sauce. Beautiful ambiance at Chama Mama. I had early dinner reservations so I was bummed when we were tucked away in a tight corner space. We asked to move and definitely were happier with our table. This was my first time trying Georgian cuisine. Our server provided recommendations for dinner. I enjoyed the Georgian Sun wine (red). It paired well with the dishes we tried. We asked for a sauce for the chicken kebab dish because I felt like there was something missing. I actually noticed later on that it is supposed to come with a tomato sauce so that was a letdown as I was half-way done before getting it. The food was packed with flavor. We ended dinner with their highly recommended honey cake and a cappuccino. It was delicious and I see why it is the popular choice. Enjoyed my first Georgian cuisine experience. read more

This restaurant hits the mark on everything - highly recommend for a slightly elevated dinner experience. The interior here is so modern and well done, especially the bar. It's giving Instagram aesthetic but with actually good food. Service is also top notch; our server was Georgian and patiently explained the menu and stood by while we waffled over the wine options. Everything we ordered (4 people) tasted amazing: Seasonal khachapuri - usually we get the Adjaruli which is the typical one you see people ordering. This one was so good with the herbs cutting through the cheese. It's also pre-sliced like a pie so easy to share. Freshly baked bread - a mid-meal addition for us to dip into the sauces of our other dishes. Wow it was much bigger than we expected, and so fresh out of the oven it was steaming. Crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Megruli kharcho - a pretty unique dish IMO. The walnut sauce has a nuttiness that mixes so well with the spices. The grilled grits came piping hot and soft on the inside and were great for dipping. Roasted cabbage in baje - cabbage was cooked through and easy to slice through, and the cilantro and dill definitely came through in the sauce. Pork mtsvadi - cooked well, and the sauce had a tanginess that complemented the pork. Chama mama Cabernet Sauvignon - didn't drink much myself but my table mates really enjoyed this. A beautiful night for Valentine's Day! Reserved a 7:30pm spot. Came in a little after, and we waited a few. There was a table at the front for us, but we asked if we could have something in the back and they were very accommodating. The restaurant itself is very cozy. Nice lighting and not too loud. Conversations were at a light buzz and the place was full. I knew based on Yelp reviews what we were going to get. My partner started with a drink. The waiter didn't understand what a Hendricks and soda was so she brought a soda bottle and a glass of ice. But it was corrected after we told her. $17 for a Hendricks pour is pretty crazy when the specialty cocktails are $19. But I think this is a place for wine. The grape leaves with lamb were good but not worth getting again. I think we would try the Crispy Smashed Potatoes next time. The ADJARULI KHACHAPURI was SOO SO SO delicious. Literally glorified fancy cheesy bread with egg. Scrambled at our table. The bread was so perfect and with the butter and gooey cheese. Yum. I'd come here just to get three of those and go to town. The CAULIFLOWER IN SHQMERULI was a stand out. The garlic sauce is garlic city so if you don't want a garlic moment, steer clear. Get extra bread with this one cause you'll want to sop up all of the sauce if you're a garlic head. The MEGRULI KHARCHO - CHICKEN was earthy and homey. It reminded me of Indian butter chicken. The chicken was tender and juicy. Perfectly seasoned. The grilled grits were different - no flavor but cool nonetheless. The Pelamushi was so refreshing and light after the "heavier" dinner plates. I came here with a group of four. The restaurant decor is beautiful. Low lighting with dainty ceiling lamps. The bar is backed by lovely archways. The menu is best enjoyed family style. Our waiter was friendly and helpful with suggestions. To start, we had the roasted mushrooms. These were tender, but not quite as flavorful as I was expecting. We also got the smashed potatoes, which were deliciously crispy and bursting with citrus flavor. It was a generous portion size as well. We also got the adjaruli khachapuri. This dish featured a base of bread with hot cheese, butter, and egg inside. The ingredients were separate upon serving and mixed at the table. The dish was super cheesy and a bit hard to cut. It was rich and tasty, but I prefer the imeruli khachapuri, which is sliced and more like a pizza. We tried the kvari cheese dumplings as well. Unlike the khachapuri, the cheese was not melty. The accompanying mint yogurt sauce added nice texture, but I would skip this dish next time. For a main, we shared the megruli kharcho with cauliflower. The cauliflower was hearty and well prepared. It was served with a generous amount of walnut sauce, which was thick with a unique but subtle flavor. To drink, I had the lychee margarita. It was quite small. It was juicy and sweet. The decor is gorgeous and the food is very tasty, but they need to read the neighborhood vibe: the music is atrocious. It's like eating in a nightclub. For the entire dinner we were all straining to hear each other. We tried initially to get into Felice but it was entirely booked so we went across the street to Chama and there were lots of open tables. I am wondering if anyone has told them they need to both lower the music and pick something more in tune with the neighborhood. The electronica nightclub music ruined the experience for us. I would suggest checking out the music across the street at Felice or Brume on Montague that reflects the demographic of the neighborhood more. read more

This is a review of their customer service.... I added a star since I didn't eat here.... but it was a 2 star experience at best. The hostess had a manner that implied her last gig was at the door of an exclusive club and acted rudely and oddly to me and the rest of my party. I've never encountered a host or hostess who acted like this in any restaurant. NY, high-end or casual, on good days or bad days. Walked in without a reservation expecting to get on a waitlist. I asked if she had any tables available, and the hostess told me that there were no available tables. She then just stared at me for an extended period. Like she was waiting for me to leave, like I should leave. Soo I asked is there a wait? And she says yes, 45 min to 1hr. I say Okay, we can do that. She just stares at me. So I ask..can we get on the list?? She takes my number, with a truly confusing back and forth about texting us if a reservation is canceled, and we leave. Everyone in my party left feeling irritated, judged for no reason, and annoyed by her whole bad vibe and odd un-normal interaction. Some minutes later I get a text message saying the wait is 2-3hrs, twice what she told me. I never recieved a texted about an available table the rest of the evening. If you want to try their food, just grab the train into Chelsea, skip this weird location. read more

Chama Mama was one of the few restaurants open late (till 11 pm) and on a Monday no less! My date and I enjoyed the near empty space at 10 pm where the staff even outnumbered us. The atmosphere was absolutely serene in all its largeness and glamour. We ordered the classic adjaruli khachapuri, which we were unable to finish due to how cheesy it was; cheese-lovers can rejoice but we might prefer one with more mix-ins (I've had khachapuri at other places with spinach, chopped up bits of meat). Next up was the lamb khinkali, which remind me of thick-skinned xiaolongbao. $11 felt a bit steep for just 3; still, they were juicy and delicious. Last was the chicken skewer. However, if whatever dishes I have had at Chama Mama, a Georgian cuisine restaurant, are as good as where they are originated from, I could fall in love with Georgian food! I've been a huge Chama Mama fan for quite some time now, especially after visiting their Chelsea location frequently. I live nearby and was looking for a week night dinner spot, and got SUPER excited that they opened a location in Brooklyn Heights. The ambiance is stunning. The space is much much larger than the Chelsea location and it was bustling when we showed up for dinner that night. The service? Impeccable. The food? Just as incredible as their Chelsea location. I have some standard dishes that I order, every single I visit. To start, the taste of georgia is great if you have a large group, get the khachapuri (aka cheese boat) and the beef and pork kebabs. My friend really wanted to try the Megruli Kharcho - Chicken, and just WOW, something magic is sprinkled in that sauce. It's so great to still discover new and exciting dishes in a restaurant you frequent. Cannot wait to return. So thrilled to have them in the neighborhood. read more

Chama Mama, what happened? I am a massive fan of Georgian food, and I've been to the Chelsea location before, as well as several other Georgian spots in the city. On my latest visit, toward the end of the meal, my dining partner and I looked at each other at the same time and agreed the vibes were distinctively off. The imaruli khachapuri tasted different than I was used to. It was just... "fine". The Georgian salad was OK. And the megruli kharcho was *awful*. The service wouldn't leave us alone when we weren't ready to order, yet suddenly abandoned us when we wanted to pay. One-time anomaly? I'm willing to accept that. But I most likely won't be back to the Brooklyn Heights location again. read more

I had the beef and pork kebab which was a house blend of beef and pork wrapped in lavash and served with tomato sauce. It was all very tasty. The service was great. This is easily one of the best dining experiences that I've had in NYC since I moved here eight years ago. Before coming in, I had never had Georgian food before and didn't know what to expect. Every single item was absolutely delicious and the service was even better. I was curious about the amber wine and the server was nice enough to give me a taste before pouring a full glass. Even the Georgian sparkling water was tasty. Not to mention, the actual decor and energy of the restaurant was so great. Everybody in there seemed happy and it was pretty packed for a Wednesday night but still intimate. Before we left, our food was boxed up and we got a handwritten note with our receipt. I was here for lunch on new year's eve with my family and it was terrific. I'm always a bit nervous about bringing my family to a place for the first time since they are very (very!) particular. Knowing they were not familiar with Georgian food added to my anxiety. But they loved it - which is rare. The service was so incredibly helpful - they addressed the myriad of questions some folks in my family had about the menu and they were so patient since we tend to take a long time to decide what to order. I love the warm rustic tones and all the wild fresh flowers decor.The restaurant was very busy with lots of families. Food were all very tasty and fresh. We ordered 4 dishes with one cocktail and they were all excellent for sharing and we were very very full. Our bill came to be around $50 each.
