A lovely Connecticut fall experience - with Wine & Lunch! We had come here about a year ago to get a stamp on our CT Wine Trail booklet. Back then we had a wonderful time and couldn't wait to get back. When we heard they were opening a Bistro during wine tasting hours we were sure to make another stop even though we weren't collecting stamps anymore. The Bistro @ Chamard was lovely. The people, the decor, the wine, and now the food was fabulous! Definitely coming back in the Spring to find out what else to try! read more

Since I'm not a devotee of the wine culture and and until recently the only Vineyard I had ever visited was in France Charmard came as a big surprise. Yes, I'm a fan but the meal I had chosen was not good. I ordered the mac & cheese with 4 cheeses...yes that's 4 cheeses! Honestly it was the worst mac & cheese I ever had but I ate it because I was hungry. My friends tasted it and thought the same. I could not taste any cheese and when I first put the fork it to take some out all I saw was water. The waiter offered to replace it but I said don't bother, so they took it off the bill. However the camembert cheese appetizer was excellent and my 3 other dining partners all enjoyed their meals. I really enjoyed the chardonnay also, we finished off 2 bottles. I'm not a big fan of dessert wine but we all tried it and I enjoyed it, not too sweet but just enough. The dining area was great, the space was beautiful and the view out the windows was great too. The artwork on display was a pleasure to look at too. We took a walk out into the vineyard after the meal. After Sharpe Hill vineyard this is my second favorite in CT. We will be going back in the future. Just fix that make and cheese! Make the Martha Stewart recipe with gruyere cheese in it. read more

Am I missing something here, this place absolutely does not deserve 5 stars from anyone. The portions are small, overpriced. You find yourself eating every crumb because you do NOT get much for the hefty $. The kitchen had 5 or 6 men in there, they seemed to be talking and having a good time among themselves, maybe if they put a little more food on the plate and create some interesting dishes instead of hanging out? Food took a while to come out to the table. The wine, which was good, had a one third full glass, and we, the guests, really could have had at least a three quarter full glass. I wish I took a picture. The girl that worked there (dark long hair pulled back) never smiled, had a hollow sense of mechanical greetings, very cold, flat affect. Not welcoming, sorry, even though we bought a lot of wine, will not be back. We felt unwelcome, and found ourselves feeling like we were disturbing the help. Nice fire going, one of the kitchen guys knew how to start a fire. To bad they didn't see us as important enough to light the fire when we got there and lit it at the end of our snack (I can't call it a meal, maybe a rip off I could say!} read more

Refined but relaxed, considered but very charming. This bistro is like someone's exceptionally well-raised child: You are surprised at how s/he delights jaded old you. My husband and I went on a recent Tuesday. We were seated promptly, although next to a noisy party room. The French doors to that room were soon closed without incident. On Tuesdays, the bistro showcases best-of-breed hamburgers-- by which I mean brioche buns and grass-fed beef topped with smoked bacon, caramelized onion, Gruyere and the like. The sandwich is accented by a sizable cone of homemade frites and a small salad. And that meal is all of fifteen dollars. That plus a glass of wine on a blustery winter night: Perfection. The dining rooms are small but well-appointed --- simple furnishings and an interesting, eclectic gallery of art for sale. The servers are dedicated and generally well-mannered. This was a truly lovely dining experience. We look forward to returning with friends. read more

I was lucky enough to join a group of friends at Chamard for an early Sunday dinner and wine tasting. This review is for the bistro which, when you enter is a bar with exposed beams and a very unique high top table. There are a few other tables too. Around the corner is the dining room which is somewhat small and very comfortable. The service was wonderful all night. Our group ordered the fries and brussel sprouts to share. The fries are a must-try - they are thin but not too thin; they are perfectly crisp and seasoned with just the right amount of salt. My wife and I ordered the burger and the grilled cheese to share. The burger was definitely the better of the two and I'd get it again. The grilled cheese was just okay. If the bread had been toasted or buttered a little bit more then it might have elevated the sandwich but it was just boring. For dessert we shared the apple tartlet which was decent. The presentation was kind of boring but the flavor was very good. It could have used some cinnamon. Overall the restaurant offers a really enticing menu and our meals were all delicious. The value is also commiserate and perhaps even a little cheaper than you might think. I will definitely be back. read more

Wine is excellent, bistro food and service is lacking. Took over 15 minutes for anyone to greet our table and the restaurant was not exceptionally busy. Appetizers and salads were good but not impressive for the price. I ordered the Diver Sea Scallop special, which for $26 should have been more than TWO small scallops that were tough and over cooked. We also ordered a burger cooked well (asked for gluten free) and came out med-rare with a bun. Server was less than apologetic that the food took over an hour to come out. At that point we needed to eat and didn't want to wait another 30 minutes for new food to come out. Unfortunate, as this spot is a great location with wonderful wine. Much too pricey for mediocre food and subpar service. read more

We've been coming here for quite some time and it's been always good ... not outstanding but consistently good. I've had heard it was not as good anymore but we went anyway to find out for ourselves. The host was fine and servers were ok and that's about it ! The sparking wine was room temperature, the food was lukewarm at best, the gnocchi was hard as a rock, the cheese in the omelet was cold and not melted but the worse of all was when I specifically asked for the sauce on the side of my fish entree for dietary reason and I received the fish drowned in sauce, after bring that to the server's attention she took it back to the kitchen and for my surprise she brought back the same fish soaked in the sauce only re-plated!!! Everyone makes mistakes and do mess up orders but having the courage to just re-plate and bring back the same thing is now a lack a respect to client and poor, if not non- existent, quality control in the kitchen and customer service!!! I guess the rumors are not rumors at all!!!! read more

Stopped in for a light lunch. Was well received by a pleasant staff. The Little Neck Clam Chowder is both beautiful to behold and a treat for discerning palates. Each ingredient was cooked to perfection & the chowder was topped with a delicate paprika oil drizzle. No congealed creamy brew with vegetables from yesteryear as served in many establishments. I loved it [although for me, the clams ought be steamed without additional salt]. The baguette was oh so very very yummy; the perfectly creamy butter too. Don't we all LOVE when a bistro gets their breads right? I know, I do. I also ordered a side of succotash. It came minus Lima beans [as the menu describes]. The dish has an ample portion of balsamic dressed roast corn kernels with itsy bitsy pieces of zucchini. Disappointing. Still, it's always a lovely experience except for my companion, the fly. Perhaps it's me the fly was after but, this is farm country, so I do get concerned as to where the fly has been. Highly recommended. This bistro has the perfect Tuscany/Provence ambiance. I meet a friend from the opposite side of the state at Chamard Bistro on a regular basis. We never think to go anywhere else because we LOVE everything about Chamard Bistro-the service, wine, and food. For a Connecticut winery, the wine is very good. We just spent our afternoon there. Not sure why but I got a weird sense of uppityness in the air. Maybe that's how just the vibe of the restaurant is, or it's maybe just me. Importantly the Food was good, but it was hard for me to justify the prices. I've been to $35 an entree places but the food was just a tad bit more than what I think it should be priced at. For example the gnocchi entree my wife ordered was in a simple butter lemon sauce with asparagus and ramps. It was $20 entree. I tasted it. It was good. Felt a bit overpriced. My burger was nice. It was cooked well and it had caramelized onions. The bun however was sloppy. It didn't hold up to the pressure and in a way it didn't feel too bready (a good thing) but it was a bit mushy. So it just felt lacking character. For $14 it should have been spot on. Mind you That is not including fries which was $6 extra. For for an $20 burger entree it should've have been the best beef burger. It wasn't bad like I said just overpriced. That whole burger meal should've been maybe 13 or 14 including fries. My friend who we were showing around ordered a croque Madame which I thought would be served on a french bread of sorts like a baguette or a roll, but it was instead on sliced bread as a sandwich with a fried egg on top. Looked good. But $11 was again a bit of a stretch. All in all a good experience but overpriced for what it is. read more

We went to Chamard's for a birthday party dinner. The service was excellent! The Bistro interior is really nice; it was a little cold to be outside! There was another birthday party at the same time and still the service was excellent. My wife and I had the special seared Char, first time having Char and it was excellent! The portion was small, but it is french. I will have to go back again. My wife and I split a Harvest salad and again it was very good. The wine was very good and I am typically a beer drinker. After a couple of bottles of wine and all the food I was pleasantly surprised by the bill; I thought it was going to be a lot more. We had such a good time. Thank you read more

we have been to the winery several times and could not wait for the Bistro to open, now we can't wait to go back!! the dining room is warm and welcoming, the service was friendly and knowledgable, but the star was the food. Don't pass up the baked Camembert with the salted caramel, and hope that the chef has the pan seared duck breast with green lentil ragout and foie gras cigar as a special. with the snow falling outside the dining roomm window there was no shortage of great wines to enjoy.definitely worth a visit if you are in the area or not. read more
