Chameli is slightly hidden on Greenville - if you don't know what you're looking for it's easy to miss. The restaurant is self serve. You step up to the counter to order your food, sit yourself, then come back to pick it up when your order is ready. Customers pour their own glasses of water and if you're amazing like my group of friends you take the whole jug of water to your table and finish it. I ordered a beef samosa and chicken biryani. Everything was simply delicious and great. The beef samosa wasn't too crunchy and the filling was still warm. It's served with a sauce that makes it a little saltier, but not too much. The biryani was also really delicious although one downside was that they give so much rice I felt bad for not finishing everything. I spent less than $10 for my lunch here, and it was much better than some places where I'd pay $20 + for lunch. The plates are filled graciously - you will not leave hungry. The environment at Chameli is really laid back, mostly because it's self serve - so there's no waiters walking around hustling you to get out. I ordered chicken korma, karai chicken, chameli chicken, mixed vegetables, naan, and samosas. I also ordered Baigan (eggplant), but they ran out (after I paid) so they owe me $2.99. The chicken korma was tasty, kind of oily though. The chameli chicken was like ground chicken on a stick, not much flavor. The karai chicken was good though, nice creamy tomatoey sauce. The mixed vegetables was potato, carrots, etc..it was very good. The naan was good, warm, and chewy. Now the highlight of the meal for me was the samosas..best I have had in a long time. Not overly fried, greasy, or breaded. It's best described as savory. So delicious, flaky and mmm I want some right now. What a fun, affordable Indian spot. The mutton biriyani was absolutely delicious, not to mention cheap (like... $4 kind of cheap). And I had enough leftovers for another meal. Chameli offers affordable Bangladeshi food. The Biryani here comes in one size - HUGE. Prices range from $4 for the chicken to $9 for the mutton. I went for the value of the chicken biryani and used the savings to try the vegetable samosa, chicken patty, and garlic naan. Chicken Biryani - 3 stars - Not overly spicy and the flavors are all there but the chicken is more bones than meat. But I can't complain too much for four bucks. Vegetable samosa - 4.5 stars - The best I've had in a while. The pastry was crisp and the filling of curried potato and peas was deliciously seasoned. Chicken Patty - 4 stars - Not what you would expect by the name. It's seasoned ground chicken stuffed inside a puff pastry and served with chutney. Yum! Garlic naan - 4 stars - Thinner than the regular naan and covered with fresh garlic and oil. Overall, I'd say 3.5 stars because the better entrees are priced high enough that I'd rather go hit up an Indian lunch buffet to get more variety. read more

I've eaten here so many times now that it's hard to believe I haven't written a review. It's always delicious and everything is cooked so well. I don't know much about this kind of food as I am whiter than white out on copy paper but I love this place. Great use of spices and flavors. The butter chicken with naan is THE BEST. Highly disappointing food! I tried the mutton special biryani, chicken biryani, chicken roast, naan and mango lassi. Both biryanis lacked flavor. They had tons of rice and very little meat. And the meat was highly under seasoned. The chicken roast looked great but was overly sweet. Tasted pretty awful with the naan. The only saving grace was the mango lassi. Okay this was my first visit to Chameli because it's been awhile since I have had good Indian food. From what I understand this place isn't exactly Indian but Bangladeshi but hey close enough. I went on a not so busy Saturday afternoon and attempted to use a Restaurant.com voucher however I was told they are not accepted as noted on the counter. Restaurant.com has it pretty bad with selling nonredeemable vouchers by the way. Chameli has a good menu serving curries, kormas, biryanis and more. I tried the lamb biryani special but wasn't really impressed; I mean it was just okay. I would return and try a curry or korma. I was given a sample of the sweet sponge ragulla; bit of an acquired taste but cool. Anyhow the food isn't overpriced so that's a plus. Service was friendly and fast so worth a try. read more

I don't care much for Indian/Bengali food unless it's my own mother's cooking. But chameli has got it going on, my friend! They even started a new midnight menu for the weekends. So after I'm done sinning at Sultan's, I come here and grab me a bowl of the good stuff. I appreciate that the food is still fresh even during late hours. I'd also recommend this place for a first casual date. While the flavors dance on your pallette, they don't linger. And I think it's because they chill out on the onions and garlic so your breath doesn't blow your date away. I really love Chameli. I've been there a few times, but I never get a chance to review/never got the chance to take pics because I always eat my food super quickly. Their chai is EXCELLENT and very strong. Check in yelp for a free cup!! I've had the butter chicken, chicken biriyani, goat biriyani, beef curry, goat curry, naan, pompret fish...and I can't wait to order again and again. Their chicken biriyani is cheap (like 5 bucks for a huuuuge plate). The chicken isn't AMAZING (I think they mainly use darker meat?), but it still has a good flavor. Goat biriyani is more expensive, but more bone. The goat does have a better flavor though... The beef is EXCELLENT. This curry reminds me of the rich, deep flavor that I would get back in India. There are a few "bad pieces" which have more bone than meat, but I feel this dish to be pretty authentic. The goat has a similar flavor to beef, but has more bone. Skip it. The naan isn't the best. It's not soft like you'd get other places. The pompret fish is very good, but it's the whole fish (including eyes and all). That might freak some people out. Butter chicken is very good- has a good authentic flavor. I know this place will get some bad reviews because sometimes some dishes are oily. Sometimes you get more bone than meat. However, as many times as I've been, it's been pretty darn good. It's even satisfied my parents (who are very particular about Indian food). I like how authentic this place is. It looks like my search for a viable replacement for authentic Indian (specifically East Indian/Bengali/Mughlai) food in Dallas has concluded. I was worried that Chameli would be a hole in the wall serving only the tikka masala variety of "Indian" food. Dear god, am I relieved that it isn't! There's something surreal about sitting in Dallas and eating a delicious Rui Maccher Kalia with some fragrant pulao rice. Or a nice whole Pomfret fry that isn't slathered in spices (Anjappar, I'm looking at you disapprovingly). Or a shockingly good Chicken Roast aka Chicken Mughlai with laccha paratha. I literally had an out of body experience, ending up in those beloved eateries in Park Circus, Calcutta. The Goat Kacchi Biriyani, and Beef Rizala didnt disappoint either. Good naan too. Plus they apparently do a weekend lunch buffet too (in addition to the existing weekday lunch buffet). Mango Lassi tasted fresh and not overly synthetic/sweet. It's got a decent amount of tables and service is quick if not elegant. It's a family run effort by our neighbors from across the river, Bangladesh. Nice people, who know their food. It was good to hear them speak in Bangal too. I'm holding off from giving them a full 5 stars until I've had the chance to visit them again, which I full intend to do very soon. Consistency and quality are key, and I hope Chameli wont disappoint. A true oasis in the otherwise bleak desert of Dallas's Indian food scene. read more

I ordered 3 items to be prepared mild spicey level. The food was made EXTREMELY spicy. My wife and daughter where unable to eat the food. I only ate it because I had spent $60 on the meal. I am known among friends and family for liking spicy food and even appeared on a TV program last year eating raw spicy hot peppers. That was a picnic compared to this meal. It was torture. My eyes watered and nose ran the whole meal. I dont know that I have ever eaten a meal this spicy. It was brutal. My wife kept asking why I continued to eat. Because I am stubborn and needed to get my $60 worth. Im not sure if this is a cruel trick by the person preparing the food but it really put a bad taste in my mouth for this restaurant.
