    Smothered Burrito
    Steve D.

I enjoyed the large, tasty burrito and the cheerful, helpful, first-rate service during my dine-in lunch visit at this new restaurant, but there was room for improvement. The smothered burrito ($12.00) was ready just five minutes after I ordered at the counter. The 7" long burrito was filled with generous amounts of rice and beans with a fair amount of chicken. It came with a good number of tortilla chips, a choice of two salsas (mild or hot) and silverware. Crispier tortilla chips, more meat on the burritos and a hotter salsa option would be nice additions. I found the dining area to be spacious, clean and new with one TV tuned to a Mexican music channel for background music. Their menu included breakfast, appetizers, burritos, platters and quesadillas. They also offered a Coke dispenser, but no iced teas. Overall, I'm thinking 3.5 stars and rounding up for the great service.

They have a large menu with a ton of options. You order at a walk up window and then take your seat. It took a little while, but their burritos are huge and extravagant. I did enjoy it.

I went to this new spot with my parents. It's very close to where they live so they were really interested to try it. We went around 5:30 on a Tuesday. Now, that I remember that it was Tuesday, and not Wednesday when I normally do dinner with my parents, I understand why it was so busy ::facepalm:: First impression was it's quite a sterile space. It could definitely do with any decor. It is an order at the counter place so I can forgive that, but don't go expecting a full-service experience. It took a while to figure out my order because the menu is long and posted on the TVs above the order window, but there are so many options that they have to keep changing the menu screens, and there's so much on there that I couldn't really internalize what was on the screen and had to wait for the menus to cycle again to confirm what I wanted. There was a single hard copy menu sheet at the counter. I'd definitely recommend printing up like 20 laminated menus and leaving them at the counter, so people can get a look at everything at once. Frankly, a lot of the burritos seemed to be nearly the same except one might have shrimp and/or jalapeños in it. So I think they could maybe abbreviate to like 3-4 basic burritos with optional add-ons so the menu is less overwhelming. Anyway, the lady at the counter was very nice. I ordered the #5 with steak, my mom got the #4 with chicken and my dad got the plato El Gordo. As mentioned in other reviews, they do not serve iced tea here. Though the do serve coffee all day, which I'm sure is nice for coffee drinkers but kind of odd. Since it was taco Tuesday, it took maybe 10 mins for our food to come out. We all enjoyed our food. It does taste like a super fresh chipotle. I know that's chipotle's gimmick but this felt homemade in the right way. I wouldn't say it knocked my socks off but I'd definitely go back, especially if I lived nearby. One other note/suggestion: provide additional bussing space. Apparently people in Shawnee are animals (I'm from Shawnee so I know of what I speak) and don't know how to clear off their plates when they are done and drop them on top of the trash can. I think putting a tub for dirty dishes on the trash can would maybe encourage people to help bus their food. It was bizarre. Not the restaurant's fault but seeing a pile of dirty dishes on the trash can looked kinda gross.

The food was fresh and delicious you will get your money worth. Service was great the owner/ cashier was very friendly and helpful for out of towers. The ambience was nice and quiet. I definitely recommend and come back if and when I return to Kansas

This is a fairly new restaurant in the area. The burritos are large so be prepared. The food is good. There's a large menu . They have some specials & side items that aren't on the menu too. You'll wait about 10 minutes if you want a to-go order. The decor is simple but clean. FYI-they charge a credit card fee when you use one. So bring cash if you don't want to pay that fee. Prices are reasonable too.

The menu is large but easy to navigate, and the prices felt pretty average for the area. I ordered the avocado toast ($12.99), and it was bigger than expected--in a good way. The bread was perfectly toasted and piled high with avocado, thick slices of mozzarella, tomatoes, and a nice drizzle of balsamic. It also came with two eggs and a choice of side; I went with the fresh fruit, which was a great complement. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The only drawback was the limited staff. Our waiter was fantastic, but he was clearly stretched thin--handling seating, bar duties, takeout orders, and multiple tables all at once. It was a bit much for one person and did lead to longer wait times across the board. Hopefully, this was just a one-off situation, because the food and service quality were definitely there. I'd absolutely come back again.

The other standout was the raspberry coconut chicken: crispy coconut-breaded tenders draped in a raspberry coulis with toasted almonds on top, sitting over a creamy slaw. Sweet and savory done right, though heads up if you're dairy-sensitive -- that slaw is loaded. Eventually the get us seated in the main area. My wife ordered mashed potatoes and green beans as sides, and the mashed potatoes were cold. They took those back to fix, so we each tried some of her green beans. We both looked at each other in shock and said "These taste like fish!" Plus they were cold, so cold fish green beans. So when they brought out the warmed mashed potatoes we mentioned that, and they grabbed those to fix up, and asked us to check our steak. They were supposed to be medium, but were rare. So they took the steaks and my fries (the only thing edible so far). After 10 minutes the steaks were back, and looked good, along with a new order of the green beans, and we each got a replacement flame singed sliver of bread. So we taste the green beans, and now they taste like warm fish. So we got the manager again and I asked if they ever taste any of this stuff, and she didn't really know what to say. She said they'd take it off our bill, and we could have a free desert. Okay so back to the steaks, which were cooked right but too salty now. And that's when I realized they never brought back my fries. So we flag them down again, and eventually get the fries, which are good. The desert menu is a bunch of uninteresting goo, but we settle on something and get it to go. I pay the bill, tip 20%, and we get the heck out. Later we realize that they had accidentally added another steak entree to out order, then credited it off, just like the green beans and "free" desert, but their little machine calcutes the tip off the total before credits, so I actually payed a 50% tip. Unreal.

Pretty good eats, great specials, and a full bar makes for a solid dining option for solos, couples, or families. You'll find Murphy's Corner nestled into a strip center facing 87th. The owner apparently did catering prior to opening this space and you can certainly tell with the food. The menu has lots of options, from standard pub fare to housemade pizza to some rather artisanal salads. I'd suggest the chicken sandwich, hand-breaded and fantastic. Or even the Hinkle, roast beef & thinly cut pork tenderloin with a sweet pepper aioli, is a fabulous sandwich. But don't miss that happy hour from 2:00-6:00 on weekdays. The smashburger special runs $6 for a single, and even that is a fair-sized burger, and maybe share a side with someone special. The smashed patty(s) come with the usual accoutrements, including a 'special sauce' that makes the smash a smash. Secret of the pros: get two patties, because it's worth the extra $3 and it's sensational. If there is any knock, then it might be the speed of service. Having stopped in several times, I don't think I have ever had the kind of turnaround that I can get many other places. But the food often makes it worth the wait, so I can only knock it for one star. Pricing is fair and certainly on the level with the area, parking is shared with other spots along the strip, and the atmosphere is wonderful. There are a TON of TVs in all directions, and you can even sit on the patio in nicer weather. It's a neighborhood spot with great food, great atmosphere, and great specials. Get there.

Here's the list: Sunrise, Jolly green, Power BLT, Baked Oatmeal, Croissant French Toast, Salsa Verde Pork &Eggs, Homemade Blueberry Tart and Carrot Cake Pancakes. Something tells me you just can't wait to hear.. the Fresh squeezed Sunrise & Jolly Green juice were so fresh and refreshing my goodness they were like little liquid vitamins drinks. The green went down so smooth with a hint of sweetness. The sunrise was just right for first thing in the morning carrot juice mixture I don't think we get enough of carrot juice but I felt so alive after drinking enough too go in on that Savory Satisfying Salsa Verde and it with the over easy egg on top to bring it home. When delivered it was still hot, the pork was so moist and seasoned darn well the salsa brought the entire thing together with that warm egg yolk I almost hurt myself it is a must try. Then comes the Large Power BLT with added grilled chicken. Listen to me you have to add the grilled chicken it takes it to a whole'nother level with the hickory smoky bacon cooked perfectly the kale and the brussel sprouts bean sprouts grape tomatoes it's just loaded goodness and the dressing being oil based seasons the green because they are raw so keep that in mind. You can literally feed 2-3 people with this salad. It's gonna be a summer staple for me no doubt!!!! Now comes the Baked Oatmeal - I've never had baked oatmeal but I believe they may have changed my mind with the berries I can't explain the warm goodness I think it was cinnamon but the oatmeal is so incredibly inviting so moist and chewy almost like an oatmeal cookie added berries for sweetness I added cream too it and let all my cares extinguish themselves. The Croissant French Toast- is RICH absolutely Rich, buttery toasted 3 pieces of goodness with a great helping of syrup. I say have some eggs and bacon some kind of fat or acidic beverage to cut through the richness, it put me to sleep when I finished it. We have the Homemade Blueberry Tart- ok let's talk.. flaky, buttery, when you break off a piece you layers of dough like someone loves their job. The filling on the inside compared to dough was perfect and very blueberry light sweetness, it's a cross between pop tart and toaster strudel but better. The icing kinda rubbed off in the bag but it was just enough and sprinkles to enjoy. I really liked that!! Yep, I saved the best for last those super moist Carrot Cake Pancakes, where have they been all my life huh where have they been? Just a simple sweet carrot cake with syrup you might as well say, like sponges just absorb the syrup to put you in a food coma and gone add a pad of butter as if, well as if it needed to be rich too flavor explosion just all over the place. I've never had that flavor pancake before but I will again. I wish I knew about this place before now, but it is one great find for any day or any occasion. Every item purchased was made, prepared and packaged with care. HomeGrown clearly loves their job because great things are coming out of that kitchen. I was very impressed my favorites are the Power BLT added grilled chicken and those Carrot Cake Pancakes. I've found another way to get my veggies . If you have not tried this place you got to and apparently they have some several locations. Picture time! I also posted my order and price shall you wanna take a walk on the tasty side of life. Enjoy! It's definitely a Yelp 5*****star. The serving sizes were nice. The price for what I got was perfect for me. The flavors paired well in each item.
