This company is incredible. They just finished a steam cleaning job on my staircase within my apartment forty-five minutes ago. I am recovering from a major back surgery. I live in an apartment with two flights of stairs that are carpeted. During my recovery period I have spilled a lot of food items on the staircase. It's so hard trying to walk up two flights of stairs with a cane while holding food and/or drinks. Needless to say, over a twelve month period, all the food and drinks did not safely make it to the top of the staircase. Some food items found a new home on my carpet and not my stomach. I got to the point where I was tired of looking at all the stains on the carpet. I contacted Champs and explained my situation. They had a crew show up the very next day. Now, here's the deal. I was charged a very low price. For such a low price, I figured these guys were going to just get a machine full of water and just run it over the staircase and leave. I actually did not care. I was hoping for at least just a fifty percent visual improvement. However, to my surprise they took their time and did an incredible job. They first sprayed some type of solution on the entire staircase. Next, they got a brush and hand scrubbed the stubborn stain areas before they even began steam cleaning my carpet. When the job was completed, I was shocked. It did not look like they cleaned my carpet. It looked like they laid BRAND NEW CARPET on the entire staircase. I could not believe my eyes. The first time they serviced with their "ph balance stain remover and pet deodorizer" they left my carpets soaking wet and took well over night to dry and even some spots were still wet by morning. Visible stains still in the carpet. They came back out next day to "re-do" the floors and once dried, carpets were still visibly dirty. i've done a better job myself with a store bought shampooer which i ended up buying to clean again. My carpets weren't horrible, basic high traffic areas with some pet spots here and there. Wish Id read reviews before I scheduled and paid the deposit to these folks. These guys take serious advantage. I was desperate when I called becuase my care had some kind of mite/bug in the upholstery. They said they absolutely had experience with this kind of problem AND had an opening the next day. When I pressed about the type and quality of the cleaning they kept reiterating their GREAT reviews. The serviceman showed up and told me that this was a "hazmat job" and would cost $1000!! -- I said no way and laughed so he lowered it to $500 and told me they used a special enzyme cleaner yada yada yada. So I decided to trust them. But All they did was spray seats with a spray bottle and vacuum them. I didnt see any special solvents or special steam equipment. He was done in less than 30 minutes. I had booked upholstery cleaning for a few pieces of furniture, and paid the $100 deposit with Champs just to book the appointment. I was told when I requested a quote that a typical armchair cleaning is $60 and a sofa is $100-- totally reasonable prices in line with what other companies had quoted me. When the day of the appointment came, Dante told me the price had skyrocketed-- now it would be $400 for the armchair and sofa, and $1,000 if I wanted the outdoor sofa cleaned. Since he was already in my house and I had paid the non-refundable deposit, I agreed to have him do the armchair and sofa, even though the cost was double what was quoted. The cleaning took less than an hour. I felt that this company took advantage of me by requiring a deposit in advance and then changing the estimate so significantly when they arrived to do the cleaning. While the cleaning was fine, I wouldn't recommend using Champs again. read more

Though the technician arrived within the estimated time window and was flexible on his initial quoted price (in exchange for these Yelp reviews), I still paid a bit more than expected for an L-shaped sectional and one area rug. They performed a really good quality cleaning service on both of our items and are clearly serious about their work. Overall can't ask for much more than that, other than creating a system where technicians could offer exact estimates before arrival (picture, video?) so you can make a more informed decision about whether or not to drop a deposit and secure an appointment. i agree with all the other one star reviews, this company WILL take advantage of you. i called for a quote over the phone and they said they are unable to provide me with an estimate since they do not know the carpet's conditions. they charged me a $100 non-refundable deposit over the phone and scheduled a time to come clean my carpet. upon arriving, the employee stated that the carpet was in extremely poor conditions (i believe he exaggerated the condition to justify his pricing) and said the cleaning service would be $1200. $1200 is an INSANE amount to charge for a ONE bed room apartment. i questioned the pricing and tried to get the price lowered by getting a basic clean rather than a deep clean and the employee refused to follow the request because of his "integrity". it was particularly strange to mention "integrity" since the original price of $1200 fell to $800 then $500 then $300 when i refused to pay the quote. employee attempted to play off the major price changes because he was an alum from my school. it was so shady, what company adjusts their prices to this extent to not lose a customer? i ended up not following through with this service and began calling other companies. the quotes others have given me ranges from $140 - $260. this establishment attempted to up charged me 8x the regular amount and took my $100 deposit without service. save your time and money and look elsewhere. read more

This business is are such a joke it's almost comical. I was referred by a family member who has been using this company for years and they have severed a long time relationship and lost the potential of many more clients. But anyways ... I called and paid my $100 "deposit" to be on the calendar (against my better judgement but again was referred by a family member) I was given a date and a 2 hour time window when the tech would be here. From the very beginning I felt like I was being sized up. Dante looked at my luxury apartment and tried to qoute me an outrageous $400 minimum for a 2 piece sectional that barely fits 5 people. As I a business owner I respect peoples prices and would've kindly just declined, however I paid a "deposit" that I just knew I wouldn't be get back if I did. So I negotiated him down to $250 but I had to write 5 star reviews on all 3 of the companies yelp pages "before he left" LOL... (Keep in mind my mother just had her whole apartment's carpet cleaned for $200!!!!!) Dante spent a total of 45ish mins in my apartment from the quote to being "finished". I was extremely disappointed in the work and reached out to my referral to let her know how poor of a job was done. She was shocked and immediately called Kevin, the owner, to rectify the situation. I personally didn't speak to Kevin but reached out via text after to schedule a time when he himself would be able to finish the job. We agreed for that following Tuesday and I was given a 4 hour window of when he would arrive. I appreciated this gesture and cancelled my morning of work to make sure I was available. I reached out to Kevin the day of around 2 hours into the window to ask when I would be expecting him. Come to find out KEVIN NEVER PUT ME ON HIS CALENDAR!!!! At this point I was over it and had no more time to give to this situation and kindly asked for a refund.... and boy did that not go well. I was yelled at by Kevin told he "STANDS BEHIND HIS TECHS WORK" and hung up on me... So now I was out of $250 and half a days profit from work. WOW But what makes it even worse is he has DANTE call me back and tells me this is how they run their "business" and they "didn't know I was referred by someone"... now my three questions are this... Got yelled at on the phone by owner before even receiving the service. Worker arrived at 7 pm, when service was scheduled for 10 am-12 pm. Service lasted about 10 minutes when I was told it would be around an hour. Got charged almost double the price that I was told over the phone (after they first tried to charge me 3x the quote upon arrival). This place is a bit of a rip off in my opinion, I've used other rug cleaners that did not require a non refundable $100 deposit. AND they have cleaned a larger rug service for cheaper. They came out and said the cost to clean a small bedroom (probably 9x9) plus a small parlor chair would be an additional $150. Yes, the carpet was very dirty from foot traffic but the cleaner was done with everything after about 30 mins. He was not able to get the rug completely clean but did a decent job. We were told it would dry within 4-6 hours but it took a couple days. Charging people $100 JUST to make an appointment and then you are at the mercy of whatever price they throw at you once they show up does not sit right with me. I'm tempted to try my last rug cleaner again just to see if they are able to get the rug completely clean. I suggest shopping around. read more

I bought a used sofa sleeper (corduroy) and wanted a deep cleaning to get rid of the stains. I called Champs Rug & Sofa Cleaning, and they were very responsive. We scheduled a cleaning right away. Before Kevin and his team arrived, they called to let me know they were 15 minutes away. They were very kind and wore masks and booties in my home. Kevin inspected the couch, locating all the stains (even ones I didn't notice). He explained to me what they were going to do to clean the cushions and frame. It took 45 min-1 hour. The owner, Kevin is unprofessional, rude and his ego lost him a returning customer. I've used them in the past and wanted to support a black owned company as a Black woman. I've always thought it odd to require an upfront $100 deposit but still moved forward with booking in which he did say it would be non refundable. What he didn't say is that i would have to pay an ADDITIONAL DEPOSIT to reschedule. So when i called 24 hours in advance to reschedule for the following week, Kevin was immediately perturbed and told me I'd need to pay another deposit on top of the $100 I've already paid. This was never communicated to me and also there's nothing in writing so it also is bad practice and feels money hungry. I shared with Kevin that I did not know an additional deposit would be required in the event that I would need to reschedule (a date was provided by me in which i could reschedule as well) and that he should have his policies in writing so there's no confusion and no customer is put into this difficult predicament. He went on to raise his voice over the phone, and talk over me saying i shouldn't tell him how to run his business of 30 years. I'm a customer and typically good business practice WOULD be to get customer feedback and thank people for their feedback. Instead his ego was bruised and he took it way too personal and said i can't tell him how to run his business lol. Well Kevin, you lost a customer and you'll lose more with your way of doing business. He also hung up on me so there's that. I was charged $200 for a deposit to come evaluate my rugs which lasted less than 1 minute and was not even accurate. Was initially quoted $3000 to clean 3 rugs. When I balked, was told he could do $1500. Again when I said that was too high said he could "cut a deal." The whole process felt shady as I didn't get a sense of how much this work should actually cost and felt he was just seeing how much he could get out of me. When I got a quote that seemed somewhat reasonable ($800 for two rugs) I was then asked to pay up front with my credit card over the phone. The owner operates his business under multiple names (including Champs Carpet), so I am posting my review again here to warn customers. Called to get a free estimate (as per their website) and was told it would be $250 to clean two rugs. Called back later and was told the $250 was not a "quote" and that they'd have to see the rugs to give the actual cost of cleaning and that the $250 would be the minimum. Then was told there would be a $200 deposit to schedule the appointment for them to come out and provide a quote. This seemed off and the owner "Kevin" was being unusually aggressive, using high pressure sales tactics and saying he had a lot of phone calls to make so I needed to decide then and there if I wanted to book the appointment. I was led to believe the deposit was to prevent any last minute cancellations and that we'd get the deposit back if we ultimately decided not to go through with the service once we got the final quote. Paid the deposit and scheduled the appointment. Later that day, found out by reading Yelp reviews more closely that they are known for charging 2x or 3x more than the initial phone estimate once they actually visit the customer's house/apartment, and if the customer decides not to go through with the cleaning, they try to keep the deposit. And that customers that HAVE gone through with the cleaning were unhappy with the shoddy service and results. Many of the 5-star reviews were because of "Kevin" and his crew pressuring the customers to write the reviews before they even left the premises or the carpets/rugs had dried. Oh and also, the owner "Kevin" is actually Khalid Ahmad Wilson, and he was previously arrested on 27 counts of fraud (you can google him, I double-checked after learning this on Yelp and his address matches Champs Rug's address). He operates his carpet cleaning company under multiple names, and just changes the name when bad reviews start to pile up. Obviously after learning all this, I wasn't going to risk it. So I called to cancel the appointment and was told the deposit is non-refundable (which was NOT stated on the phone call). When I pointed out I could simply do a chargeback on my credit card since he misrepresented himself and his services and has a history of fraudulent behavior, he hung up lol :) The lesson from all this is to do better research ahead of time, and look closely at the negative reviews, not just the positive ones. Also if you do find yourself being scammed, you can dispute the charge on your credit card to get your money back. read more

They quoted me $175 base price, noting that the technician would have to see it to know the cost, stains requiring deep cleaning would be more.
