We wanted to order to-go but eat a little bit at the restaurant, and the worker understood our request. He ended up serving us as if we were dining in, giving us extra sauces and sides. The restaurant was clean and spacious. We ordered the sweet garlic tenders, chan chan kimpbap, and rose tteokbokki with wide glass noodles and cheese. We tried to order beer as it was on the menu, but apparently they don't serve alcohol at this location and the menu they use is Irvine's menu. We heard another group come in after us try to order alcohol too and were told they don't serve it. Would probably be good to update the menus or at least include a sign on it that they don't serve alcohol? The fried chicken came plain and were soo crispy! Every time I've been here I've had great service and delicious meals. Prices are a little high but justified when you get your plate (it's a lot of food). Kimbap was really fresh and tasty. We got the half and half spam /bulgogi. I preferred the bulgogi. Also got the chan chan tteokbokki with flat noodles. We got mild because my friend can't handle spicy and the mild was borderline too spicy for her. For me as a spice lover it was perfect. The wide noodles were nice and chewy. Rose pasta, spicy ham and sausage noodles and chan chan rice cakes are my top dishes. I wish you could add meat like ham or spam onto the rice cakes. What I like about this spot is that they have generous portions. Their korean fried chicken is super crunchy as they used a thicker batter! When fried correctly, it gives that ultimate crunch. I heard about Chan Chan Irvine, but since Huntington Beach is closer, decided to try HB location instead. We got there on Sat around 2pm and the restaurant was empty. I'm always a little apprehensive when the restaurant is empty, but we figured we would still try it out. For the most part, food was better than expected, like the kimbap. Kimbap here is excellent, with the right kind of rice (slightly sticky) and plenty of sesame oil. I love the ratio of veggies/meat to rice, since I don't like too much rice. We had the half and half of beef and spicy oden, and I'd def recommend beef over spicy oden. The tokbokki was a bit of a letdown, because I really wanted the retro style, which is the one they cook tableside (juksuk tokbokki). I haven't had that style since I left Korea, so I was excited but found out they only have it in Irvine location, bummer! I also wanted a glass of beer, but they don't have a liquor license yet, double bummer. But, service was nice, the ladies that work there were very attentive and efficient. We also ordered the chicken with green onions, and the chicken was fried perfectly. Their pickled radish was very good too, I'm kinda picky about my pickled radish that you get with Korean fried chicken, and theirs is really good. We ordered the Chan Chan Tenders, Sweet Chili Tenders, Chan Chan Rice Cake, and Kimchi and Spam Fried Rice to go. Our order was prepared and ready very quickly. We went to pick up the order and the staff was super friendly and helpful, as always! Special thanks to Chan Chan for giving us an extra treat - french fries! I've heard so many good things about Chan Chan and finally got to try it out. We came on a Friday evening for dinner and there was no wait, which I'm surprised about because the food was really good. The wings were so crispy, juicy, and flavorful. The wings are huge and I would recommend 8pc for 2 people, if you plan on ordering other items on the menu. However, it is fairly pricy compared to other spots in the area who offer the same amount of chicken for a couple dollars less, like bbQ chicken or KoKo's. I will say, I definitely like the flavor here better, but I wish it wasn't as expensive. Another thing that lowered the rating slightly is the service. The servers are quick seating us and the food comes out quick, they are all pretty nice. However, often times I feel like they are just waiting for us to leave and wanting to get us out of the restaurant as soon as possible despite having few other customers. The sweet garlic was a non spicy sauce and the Chan Chan had a slight kick to it and I would describe it as more of a soy garlic sauce. An excellent Korean restaurant! The food here at Chan Chan is great! I tried the spicy seafood rice cakes and they were so yummy. The restaurant gives a generous portion that you could easily make 2 meals out of. It's not too spicy so if you're scared about the spicy title it's not too bad and doesn't hurt your mouth. It's a little salty, but when I reheated it back at home I just added a little more water and sugar and it was perfect. Their rice cakes are also so soft and chewy. The texture is really nice. I also tried the Chan Chan Kimbap which seems to be their house special Kimbap. It was very good. I loved how the ingredients are overflowing out of the sides so you get a little extra of the filling. Great rice texture and great nori texture. Another thing I loved about this restaurant is their sauces. If you get the chicken please make sure to try their house garlic sauce. It's delicious and super garlicky. Been recommended by family to try out Chan Chan. Located in the same plaza as Gyu Kaku/Subculture Sandwiches in HB, this little corner restaurant is a great new addition to the plaza. We ordered their gimbap for takeout. I opted for the beef gimbap. It came with a couple of dips and a side of pickled radish. The beef gimbap had really good flavor. Meat was very tender and not at all chewy. Ingredients used were very fresh. Only downside is that the gimbap is very pricey compared to the ones you can get in Garden Grove.
