This was my first time trying this restaurant and my first time trying Jiro ramen. I got the regular bowl and my brother got the regular bowl with extra bean sprouts. As your can see from the photo, the extra bean sprouts is a HUGE portion! We liked that the bean sprouts were seasoned, making the bowl really flavorful. This was a huge portion of food, leaving us really full. The only thing we didn't like was the chashu in this ramen, which was a cube and not slices. I got one really soft cube and one really tough and dry cube. Overall good food with good service and a very nice and clean interior with plenty of space.

Was very shocked to see this has replaced Le Shrimp Noodle Bar, but nonetheless, I'm excited for a good bowl of ramen~ Chicken Paitan is the specialty here so of course got the Spicy Chicken Paitan ramen. The broth was very well-balanced and light (compared to a pork/tonkotsu broth). The chicken slices were a bit too thick for my personal preference. The noodles were thick and unfortunately, were too cook. I prefer my noodles to be on the firmer side for ramen. The ramen bowl also included toppings such as wood ear mushrooms, green onions, one flavored egg, 3 pieces of nori and a small scoop of spicy oil. The broth was on the warm side than it is hot, so not sure what happened there. Personally, this bowl could have been a lot more enjoyable if the broth was hot and noodles being a little more firm. Also ordered Fried Wantan and Gyoza. The waitress didn't seem to know what was in the filling of the wantan and gyoza which was a bit disappointing lol. To be honest, I don't remember what was in them because they were quite mid. I'd personally would skip these two lol. Huge store with plenty of seating, but it was quite empty when I stopped by. Everyone was quite nice though.

Food came out quick. Ramen was delicious. I had the spicy chicken paitan with seasoned egg and chicken chashu. Chicken was so soft and tender. Not even dry. I ate every last bit of it including the soup. Which is rare. I rarely drink all the soup. Restaurant was spacious and clean. Plenty of space. We did not wait and got seated right away. This was on the weekend. If you like chicken ramen, then this place is the place to go

We decided to come five this place a try since it just opened up! I know the old place was the La Shrimp so we were interested in seeing what this place had to offer. Parking is super easy here since the Amazon Fresh is gone sadly Wait was around 30 minutes but that was only because they had the soft opening half off ramen special Service is pretty fast and they're all friendly. We were pretty full from sushi earlier so we just got a ramen to share. Black Garlic Chicken Paitan took a little bit longer than expected but I think the other chef was on his break so it was only one guy doing everything. Flavor wise I like it though since it's not as heavy as tonkatsu. Chicken was very tender. However, the entire bowl doesn't WOW me too much. I definitely want to come back to try the Chukosoba and Fried Chicken they had. As it came out to other tables it looked GOOD! Overall, I like the chill ambiance and fast casual. I'm sure they're working out the kinks as any new place does!

Nice to attend the grand opening day of this new location since the Yorba Linda location is closed. Located off the 405 freeway and just south, the new location is larger, has a beautiful hand sketched mural and has an open floorplan. There's plenty of complimentary parking since it's in a large strip center. We arrived before they opened which is 11:30 am.The chef and now manager Naoki Akimoto, trained under the legendary Kazuo Yamagishi at Japan's iconic Taishoken, bringing true Japanese craftsmanship to everything they serve. The chicken paitan broth is simmered for 24 hours and has a rich natural flavor and aromatic. The noodles are cooked perfectly, which I ordered an extra serving that came out piping hot. Ordered karaage chicken as our appetizer and it tasted exactly like their original location that I frequented in Yorba Linda, CA. I ordered the black paitan Chasau ramen and it was piping hot and flavorful. Service was friendly and attentive by the entire staff, and they were on point even though the line wrapped around the building and some customers waited over 90 minutes to get a table. Congrats to Ramen Akimoto's new location and come by to try their Japanese cuisine.

Opening weekend and already such a standout. It's always a joy to support a new business that clearly cares about what they're doing--and it shows in every bowl. Their specialty is Chicken Paitan ramen, a rich, creamy, milky-white chicken broth that's an alternative to the traditional pork-based tonkotsu. It was my first time trying it, and I was impressed. The broth is deeply savory, comforting, and full of flavor--honestly, it reminded me of an elevated Japanese chicken noodle soup. Perfect healing remedy for when you're under the weather. It's also the kind of bowl you crave on a cold day or whenever you just want something warm, soothing, and satisfying. I also love that this is a great option for anyone who can't have or prefers to avoid pork-based broths. Thoughtful and delicious. And collagen-rich to boot! Their basic ramen comes with your choice of tender, succulent chicken or pork chashu, plus wood ear mushrooms and green onions--all prepared with care and balance. Plentiful parking in this shopping center. Business Hours Monday - Friday 11:30am - 3:00pm 5:30pm - 11:00pm  Saturday 11:30am - 11:00pm  Sunday 11:30am - 9:00pm Closed on Tuesdays in April

7/30/26 I went for dinner time to check out the tsukemen that I have been waiting for it to come back. It was not the same noodle as before and also felt it was overcooked. The toppings were also not as well plated and overall disappointed. I also ordered my usual Jiro style ramen and the fat is usually poured on the veggies but the fat was just mixed in the soup. This also did not taste the same as usual. One thing I saw different this day was the usual head chef was not there. I will call next time to make sure he is there before I make a visit.

I tried the cold tsukemen at Ramen Akimoto, and I was so surprised by how refreshing and well-balanced it is--not overly salty, which is quite rare for tsukemen! When I asked, the staff told me the broth is made from bonito and mackerel dashi. I also felt a hint of chicken broth flavor in there, though I might just be imagining it (haha). The subtle hint of yuzu and the fresh green onions give it such a cool, refreshing vibe, and the presentation is gorgeous and very summery. Because it's a lighter, refreshing tsukemen, the broth doesn't cling to the noodles heavily, but it's still more than enough to enjoy every bite. I was blown away by how exquisite the flavor tuning is. I will definitely be coming back again!

Ramen Akimoto is located in in a fairly large shopping center. So parking isn't an issue. The ambiance was very laid back with some nice decor. The food was lacking seasoning and definitely fell short and over priced for what I got. The service had to be the most disappointing part of my visit. My server wasn't really attentive to my family I which was understandable he was the only server there. However, the server definitely lacked professionalism. When I got the bill the server started pressuring me to pay him more than 10%. Now I don't mind paying but for mediocre service and for 2 ramen bowls and an order gyoza for 70 bucks HELL NAW !

Service was great and the food was yummy! The broth had such a good flavor and the chicken was juicy and tender. It was really good. I'll definitely be back. And, you could really feel how much the staff cared and was appreciative of the business which went a long way. Definitely recommend this place.

    Soft Opening today 4/24

Ramen Akimoto is on Brookhurst (and Talbert) next door to Urban Plates. Today 4/24 they are having a soft opening and offering the first 300 guests 50% OFF Signature Chicken Paitan. I stopped by when they first opened at 11:30 AM but the line was way too long to wait. It wrapped around Urban Plates. I'll come back to visit another time to review the ramen.

From the moment mine companions and I crossed the threshold, we were greeted with warmth and cheer, as though we were cherished guests returning home from a long and weary journey. Upon our departure, the farewells were equally heartfelt, leaving us with the feeling that we had dined not amongst strangers, but amongst dear friends. The atmosphere within was calm and comforting, familiar in a way that soothed the soul. In a world filled with noisy feasting halls and chaotic marketplaces, this establishment stood as a peaceful sanctuary where one might rest and enjoy a most noble meal. The serving folk were nothing short of extraordinary. Attentive without hovering, quick of wit, and brimming with personality, they carried themselves with the sort of genuine hospitality that cannot be taught by any guild or academy. Every interaction felt sincere and full of heart. Now, let us speak of the pan-fried gyoza, for I fear words alone may fail to capture its greatness. These glorious parcels arrived golden and crisp upon the outside, yet tender and delicate within. Each bite tasted as though it had been crafted by hand moments before reaching the table. Good people, I have sampled beverages from many corners of the kingdom, from noble feasts to humble roadside inns, and never in my years have I encountered a seltzer so divine. It was refreshing beyond measure, kissed with the perfect essence of white peach. Had a celestial spring existed in the heavens themselves, I imagine it would taste much the same. Perhaps most admirable of all was the story behind this fine establishment. They didn't check in with us to let us know the dishes were going to be delayed. We had to ask for an update after 40 minutes and they only told us then that there was only one sushi chef at that time. The restaurant had maybe 6 covers at the time and a couple of them already had food. Another group with the same amount of people came after us and received a sushi roll we had also ordered before we had gotten a single rice roll. I called over a server with lashes and a pony tail saying "Hi, I wanted to know what the priority is for the kitchen as it took 40 minutes for us to receive the couple dishes we had but the other table who came after us received a roll we ordered as well." Mind you that table had received all of their ramens and had been eating. I told her I completely understand the hot food is a different person and I had absolutely no problem with them receiving the ramen, but why did we not get priority for that roll? She didn't apologize for the wait and had a very blunt/rude way of speaking to us. When I was mid sentence, she walked away to pull our original server. However, even though she walked around the corner I was still able to hear her tell the other server quite loudly what was happening. Our server was extremely professional and apologized for the delay and reiterated the delay in you the kitchen. I told her I completely understand there was a delay but if she had told us while we were making our order that the sushi items may be delayed due to being understaffed, we would have changed our order to have more hot foods. I also told her I wanted to speak to a shift lead at that point because the server with the lashes walking away mid sentence was one of the rudest things I've experienced at a restaurant. The manager apologized and it still ended up taking another hour for all the food to come out and they still forgot the last two rolls we needed. We had to remind them we were still waiting on the rolls. One of the rolls was the roll given to the table that started the whole thing. We literally spent $500 for a bad two hour and fifteen minute experience. They also didn't refill drinks until an hour and a half in. My family and I spend at least $500 each time we go here and suffice to say, we aren't coming back.

A Legendary Slurp - Gone But Never Forgotten It is a true…read moretragedy for the Orange County food scene that Hakata Ikkousha in Costa Mesa has closed its doors. This wasn't just a "ramen joint"--it was a masterclass in authentic Fukuoka-style soul food. The Broth: Liquid Gold The standout was always their Signature Tonkotsu broth. You could literally taste the 30+ hours of labor that went into it. It had that distinct "frothy" texture (the bubble of the bone marrow) that you only find in high-end Hakata shops. It was rich, creamy, and carried a deep umami funk without ever being overly greasy. The Hits * Black Tonkotsu: The roasted garlic oil (mayu) added a smoky, dark complexity that ruined all other garlic ramens for me. * God Fire: For those who like to sweat, this offered the perfect balance of heat without sacrificing the integrity of the pork flavor. * The Karaage: Genuinely some of the best fried chicken in the area. Massive, juicy thigh meat with a shattering, thin crust and that addictive spicy mayo on the side. * Customization: I loved that they let you pick your noodle firmness. "Hard" was the only way to go to ensure that perfect snap with every bite. The Atmosphere The Costa Mesa location always had a great energy--functional, clean, and unpretentious. The staff were always efficient, greeting everyone with a loud "Irasshaimase!" that made the experience feel truly authentic. It's heartbreaking to see such a high-caliber spot leave the neighborhood. If you were lucky enough to eat here, you know we lost a heavy hitter. To the team at Ikkousha: thank you for the memories and the best bowls in the city. You'll be sorely missed! Note: For those still craving that specific broth, their Torrance locations are still holding it down--definitely worth the drive to keep the dream alive. Come back to OC! !

They are so fast!! Always ready within minutes of our calling in the order. There isn't anything here we weren't happy about trying~ EVERYTHIBG tried so far have all been delicious. Appetizer staples are definitely the crispy rice (DONT FORGET TO CHECK FOR their magical tasty sauces like the SPICY MAYO EEL SAUCE) Our takeout is prepared well and I don't always check for utensils, so if needed, check, as I don't always get them but no biggie- The sauces though, can't forget the sauces. Of their soups, we always enjoy the udon, and the black ramen best so far. One of these times we need to dine in for the full experience. It's a very welcoming atmosphere. Staff are always kind and helpful. I'm sure we will be back again sooner than later.

It's a really cool street vendor Japan vibe with the decor. We ordered the Vegas Roll, the Edamame and the Black Ramen. Last time I came here years ago the food was okay but nothing spectacular. The Vegas roll was arguably one of the best sushi rolls I've ever had in my entire life and the ramen was the type you finish the entire bowl broth included. Last time I came the Chashu was chewy but they must've figured it out because it was super tender this time. In addition they have awesome drink deals including first Sapporo draft 99 cents and then 2.99 for each one after. Highly highly recommend this place and will be coming back frequently. The front man (I assume owner/manager) was also supper attentive and nice. 10/10
