This was my first time trying this restaurant and my first time trying Jiro ramen. I got the regular bowl and my brother got the regular bowl with extra bean sprouts. As your can see from the photo, the extra bean sprouts is a HUGE portion! We liked that the bean sprouts were seasoned, making the bowl really flavorful. This was a huge portion of food, leaving us really full. The only thing we didn't like was the chashu in this ramen, which was a cube and not slices. Was very shocked to see this has replaced Le Shrimp Noodle Bar, but nonetheless, I'm excited for a good bowl of ramen~ Chicken Paitan is the specialty here so of course got the Spicy Chicken Paitan ramen. The broth was very well-balanced and light (compared to a pork/tonkotsu broth). The chicken slices were a bit too thick for my personal preference. The noodles were thick and unfortunately, were too cook. I prefer my noodles to be on the firmer side for ramen. The ramen bowl also included toppings such as wood ear mushrooms, green onions, one flavored egg, 3 pieces of nori and a small scoop of spicy oil. The broth was on the warm side than it is hot, so not sure what happened there. Personally, this bowl could have been a lot more enjoyable if the broth was hot and noodles being a little more firm. Also ordered Fried Wantan and Gyoza. The waitress didn't seem to know what was in the filling of the wantan and gyoza which was a bit disappointing lol. We decided to come five this place a try since it just opened up! I know the old place was the La Shrimp so we were interested in seeing what this place had to offer. Parking is super easy here since the Amazon Fresh is gone sadly Wait was around 30 minutes but that was only because they had the soft opening half off ramen special Service is pretty fast and they're all friendly. We were pretty full from sushi earlier so we just got a ramen to share. Nice to attend the grand opening day of this new location since the Yorba Linda location is closed. Located off the 405 freeway and just south, the new location is larger, has a beautiful hand sketched mural and has an open floorplan. There's plenty of complimentary parking since it's in a large strip center. We arrived before they opened which is 11:30 am.The chef and now manager Naoki Akimoto, trained under the legendary Kazuo Yamagishi at Japan's iconic Taishoken, bringing true Japanese craftsmanship to everything they serve. The chicken paitan broth is simmered for 24 hours and has a rich natural flavor and aromatic. The noodles are cooked perfectly, which I ordered an extra serving that came out piping hot. Ordered karaage chicken as our appetizer and it tasted exactly like their original location that I frequented in Yorba Linda, CA. I ordered the black paitan Chasau ramen and it was piping hot and flavorful. Service was friendly and attentive by the entire staff, and they were on point even though the line wrapped around the building and some customers waited over 90 minutes to get a table. Ramen Akimoto is located in in a fairly large shopping center. So parking isn't an issue. The ambiance was very laid back with some nice decor. The food was lacking seasoning and definitely fell short and over priced for what I got. The service had to be the most disappointing part of my visit. My server wasn't really attentive to my family I which was understandable he was the only server there. However, the server definitely lacked professionalism. When I got the bill the server started pressuring me to pay him more than 10%. Lots of parking in a massive lot ... Friendly servers, clean new environment, lots of seating and no wait. My wife got the chicken karaage bowl with rice and she enjoyed that. I got karaage by it self and it came with a slice of lemon and Japanese mayonnaise. I honestly think it was just plain Kewpie. I was not as impresses as my wife was. It was ok. Best authentic Jiro style ramen you can get in OC/LA county. Jiro is a cult favorite and Akimoto does a great job executing this style of ramen here in the states. I've been a fan ever since I first visited their Yorba Linda location, so when I heard this new spot opened, I had to check it out. The restaurant is very clean, a bit more spacious, and the service was fast. I originally came hoping for their Jiro-style ramen, but it wasn't on the menu yet, so this time I ordered the chuka soba instead. It had a slightly tsukemen-style flavor with a rich, well-balanced broth, and it was absolutely delicious. The side dishes aren't pictured, but the karaage and other items were surprisingly good too. Even though I ordered the regular size, the portion of noodles was very generous, and it came with plenty of toppings, so I think the price is reasonable. For Grand Opening Day on Friday, April 24th. We arrived at 9:45 AM to wait in line for the restaurant to open at 11:30 AM and guarantee that we would be in the first seating. We got to watch as the florist delivered 2 arrangements which were added to the other congratulatory flowers and plant. Opening of the restaurant was delayed 10 minutes I think because 2 employees arrived after 11:30 AM. One staff member started going through the line to take numbers in parties. When they were ready, we were seated in line order. All members of the party had to be present, the hostess had told people in line. We had to wave someone down to give our orders on paper which was the grand opening special of the creamy chicken paitan of buy one get the second for 50% off. Daughter wanted pork instead. We also wanted green onions. I wonder if they were overcompensating for the customers who said during soft opening the soup had no flavor. I would say there was plenty of flavor. In fact, the soup was salty and I had to water it down to drink it. Disappointingly, there were only 2 slices of meat for the chicken paitan, one large one and one small one. The chicken was more tender than the pork. There was only one slice of pork. We'll know if we come again to add more toppings. It was pretty quiet, as people waited to be served, in the restaurant for a grand opening. Other customers gave permission for their photos to be taken for social media to receive a gift of a water bottle or key chain. We didn't need those items and passed on having our photos taken. The server allowed us to check the correctness of our bill. The printer malfunctioned when receipt was printed, but we did receive our receipt. We also showed their social media post that said each guest would receive a 10% coupon to return to receive the 10% coupons good until the end of May. read more

Excited to try Ramen Akimoto - just for some background, our favorite ramen spots are Kitakata and Silverlake. So - the menu is a little confusing because we don't know the different types. We all got different ones. Someone in our party ordered the Ramen from the lower part of the menu and the flavoring was definitely off and unfamiliar, it just did not taste good (and this is where maybe it's a regional flavor that we had never tried before). That's fine. But we couldn't eat it so I asked the server to please bring us a simple broth and we would transfer the ramen and toppings over. She had to consult with the owner/chef and came back stating we would have to pay for this new broth and that was fine. Took a while, but new broth arrived and it was fine. I was a regular at the Yorba Linda location, so when I found out they were closing, I was devastated. I found out their soft opening will be on Easter Sunday, so I gathered few of my friends and decided to drive out to FV to have dinner. They removed tsukemen off their menu, but they did add few new items. Most of us had the mazemen, and one friend had the chashu bowl. We all noticed the mazemen tasted different. They changed the noodles and the recipe; It was good, but different. I would get it again. The karaage, gyoza, and the bamboo were delicious, as usual. They only had chicken charsu which is fine but they served it in cubes. Lastly they served with a wedge of lime...however it was rotten...poor form in my opinion The chicken paitan was bland. We paid over $80 for three bowls of ramen and an order of gyoza. At that price point, I would expect exceptional ramen, but unfortunately that was not our experience. The noodles were noticeably hard, the pork chashu was cold and lacked the tenderness you'd expect, and the broth was far too light for our liking. Overall, the food simply did not deliver the quality that the price suggests. To be fair, the service was excellent. Tried both their Chicken Paitan and Jiro style Ramen on separate occasions. One of the better chicken based Ramen in the county. Meat quality here is good; the chicken chashu is very tender. Ingredient ratio is just right. Noodle is serviceable. Karaage (deep fried chicken) is quite juicy and each piece is large. The Jiro Style ramen is intentionally overwhelming and crude. The portion is large even when ordering regular. There is a mound of bean sprouts and cabbage on top of the thick noodles and chunks of fatty pork. The soup is pork based shoyu, not the familiar white creamy tonkotsu. The added fat forms an emulsion and the heap of garlic is there to balance out the fat, so I don't recommend skipping the garlic. Definitely read up on Jiro style before ordering and only order if hungry. While this place is not my absolute favorite, they've brought two uncommon and memorable ramen styles to the area and this deserves recognition. read more

The standard option comes with only one piece of pork or chicken chashu and you can add from there. The deluxe will run you $23.25. We enjoyed the spicy broth way more than the black oil and I'm usually a big fan of black garlic. The ramen noodles reminded me of egg noodles and the flavored egg lacked flavor and was not your typical, runny soft boil. Only non alcoholic beverage options at this time. We decided to try the new spot in FV since it's closer to our home and was very disappointed to hear that they took tsukemen off the menu? Not only that but the server who helped us said the tsukemen is only for employees now which doesn't make sense...because WHY wouldn't you serve that to the customers! That is what we came to Akimoto for in the first place. We loved the Yorba Linda location. She continued to tell us that the Chakusoba is the same as the tsukemen but the ramen is broth based. They are entirely different and the process of making tsukemen is very different.... We ordered the Chakusoba anyway and it's extremely salty, I didn't even finish my food. It seems like many other reviewers are also disappointed to see that tsukemen is off the menu. So my question is, why did Ramen Akimoto make this business decision? I tried the chashu ramen earlier today and it was overly fatty and salty, and am so disappointed.
