I ordered the japchae, spicy pork katsu, and the bulgogi rice dish. The service was fast and efficient, and our food came out quickly. My favorite was definitely the spicy pork katsu. The curry had a rich, flavorful taste, and the katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying tender and juicy on the inside. I would definitely come back just for this dish! The japchae was well-seasoned and packed with flavor, but it wasn't my personal favorite. The bulgogi rice dish was also delicious the beef was flavorful and paired really well with the rice. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back to try more of the menu.
Came here for dinner with my daughter and it's her second time, and it's my first time here. This place has the best braised beef soup. It's very good and delicious. We ordered the braised beef and it was very good and good portion as well. They bring out Kim chi, chili cucumber, sweet and sour daikon and macaroni salad as well and there isn't any charge, if you wanted more they can bring you it out more. Service here is very good. We had a waiter and he was running the ordering the cleaning the tables and bringing out food all by himself. Even tho it was busy but he still has a great smile, attentive and friendly as well.. Great job my waiter!!! Ambience here is alittle small but roomy. No t.v and no music. It's casual wear. It's absolutely my go-to definitely when I'm back in town.
This place is INCREDIBLY DELICIOUS! I was definitely wow'd by the flavor! I ordered chicken curry katsu and the rice cakes. Hands down, best katsu I've had in a very long time. I love that it comes out piping hot on the stone plate. Underneath the huge katsu is half rice and half curry. At first I didn't think there was any rice until I cut into the katsu. The portions are shareable! Could've easily fed 3-4 people. I went by myself and I would go by myself again and order more than 1 dish again. The banchan is also SO DELICIOUS & you can ask for refills.
Asian Fusion Korean food! A hide Gem with good size portions. The Pork cutlet with curry was massive, it didn't disappoint! Good flavor and huge portions. The bonchon was good and the bibimbop was great too, wish an egg was included instead of a separate item.
Visited on a Saturday evening and we were able to get seated right away for a party of 5. It was quite late too so we probably got lucky. Clean, cozy size restaurant. Staff were friendly and had a good amount of attentiveness. Everything we ordered was so good! I'm happy to find this Korean spot. Anything you order off the menu will be good. Portions are shareable but of course you can still enjoy them on your own. I will definitely come back!
I think I would give this place 3.5/5 but it won't let me do half stars. the service sat us quickly and was attentive. we did go at an off peak hour, so i'm not sure if there are waits normally. the garlic su yuk is one of the best i've ever tried! would 100% order this again. The mandu are good, but there's so many other things on this menu I want to try, I would probably choose something else to try next time. The mac and corn cheese was interesting in a good way. The thing that makes me a little sad is that I heard about this place because of their katsu. However, the chicken katsu was pretty dry. It was huge tho and I'm hoping that the pork one wouldn't be as dry.

SOOO GOOD!!! went here with my cousins and we only got two entres and one appetizer which filled us up and there were only 5 of us...thats how big their portions are everything was sooo good and came out relatively fast. only complaint i have is that the cheese corn mac had more cheese than corn and macaroni noodles... like a LOT if cheese but it was still good just wouldnt get again definitely would recommend getting the katsu curry and the beef belly!! they were so flavorful and good (btw there is rice on the bottom)

Cons: - everything was a bit sweet - the pork katsu was a bit bland as well as the mac salad side dish - the pork katsu sort of peeled away from the meat because of the heat of the dish overall: - great service, big portions, would visit again! just beware if you want a spicer version of these dishes and a stronger taste. the katsu could have been a bit crisper as well, I think the bibimbap was done very well. the dishes are served in a stone plate keeping them hot through the meal
Man was I surprised by this one! Dawa Kitchen is a delicious spot nestled in the corner of the plaza. FOOD: The Katsu Curry is easily the best deal on the menu for sharing. For $25 you get a huge chicken katsu with curry pairing. The katsu was crispy, hot, and fresh when it came out. Very tasty! The curry itself is good, but doesn't have the same punch of flavor as other curry katsu places. Still good though! This dish could definitely feed 2 people. We also opted for the Ddeokbokki. This dish had great flavor and the rice cakes were cooked perfectly! Just as a heads up, if you are used to Ddeokbokki having extra's like fish cake and cheese, this does not come with it unless added. Overall, for value and flavor this is great! PARKING: Parking is tight in the complex and I would recommend getting there early just in case there's none available. WAIT/AMBIANCE: This place was packed when we arrived with a clear waitlist of 5+ parties. Try to get on the Yelp waitlist ahead of time to make sure you get seated in a timely manner. You can also look to make a reservation as that was also faster for me! Overall ambiance is good, and the restaurant was playing some Justin Bieber! DRINKS: For a casual dining place we opted to get soju and a beer as it was $10 per bottle. Also not too bad of a deal to pair with your meal! Overall would recommend this place! Delicious and great value!
TLDR - food is good, portions are good, service is good, parking is a little tight if the mall is busy - would recommend. Came back and decided to try a couple other things. we tried the chicken katsu curry instead of the pork and we got the beef belly stone pot bowl. I would say the pork katsu is probably a better buy than the chicken. The breading on the chicken falls apart too easily and leads to an unpleasant eating experience. The beef belly stone pot rice is good but it really feels like I could make it at home. Overall a pleasant experience - the spicy curry actually has a decent kick to it so if you are a fan of spicy curry I would recommend.
Yummy food and basically no wait everyone I go! The restaurant is fairly small, but not crowded. I usually get the bibimbap, mac and corn cheese, and the army ramen. Everything is delicious but two notes I'd like to add is that there is a $3 up charge to add bulgogi to the bibimbap. I'm happy to pay the charge but the amount is very small and you end up not tasting the meat throughout the dish. My second note is that there is hardly any service, even as a sit down restaurant. They only come by to have you order, bring your food, then your check. Anything you need in between you will have to walk to the kitchen to request. Aside from that, I am very satisfied with the general quality and taste of the food. I will be coming in soon to try the famous curry chicken katsu!
Dawa used to be so good when it first opened. Went on a Sunday afternoon and they were out of braised beef and the curry pork was so overcooked and super dry. We also ordered the tofu stew and the beef inside that was also dry. Skip this restaurant
The combination of tasty food and attentive service earned the five stars. Been wanting to try this spot for their mega katsu dishes and it did not disappoint. HUGE props to Ian for holding down the FOH fort solo on a slammed Friday night. He handled all the tables and the 8+ groups waiting with such grace and genuine care, showing just the right amount of urgency to indicate the patrons were the priority. He anticipated when the tables might need refills or extra napkins, never flinching when it seemed as though everyone wanted something broiled table side, all while juggling the scorching dishes the kitchen crew cranked out with ease. Ian very easily tipped this review into five star territory with his hard work! We ordered the chicken katsu and the bibimbap for the two of us, but really want to try the short ribs and cheese, and the bibimyun. The crowds were a diverse mix of Korean elders, young college kids, and neighborhood folks - all signs that the food speaks for itself. If you're looking for quality Korean comfort food, a simple menu, and an intimate atmosphere, this is the place for you. Oh, and the banchan choices were great for a kimchi, pickle, mac salad lover like me! read more
I went to Dawa Kitchen a few years ago with my younger sister and dad, and I'm glad this place is still in business and that their portion sizes are still incredibly massive! We ordered the chicken katsu curry, beef soup (galbi tang with glass noodles), and dawa chicken. All three dishes were shared family style and we had a good amount of chicken katsu curry to take home as leftovers for my friend's partner to eat for his dinner. Can you believe that a group of seven women only had to pay $71.86 total (including tax and the automatic gratuity for our party size that was 5+ people) for that much food? We each paid $10.27 for our portion and that's highway robbery in this economy. In terms of customer service, I'll say that our server was incredibly friendly when he was present, but he admittedly came by literally only three times during our visit: when we had to dramatically flag him down to order, when he dropped off our food when it was ready, and when we had to flag him down to pay for our check. I'm so glad they had a handheld terminal for us to use for checkout because we might have passed out from heat stroke if we waited any longer, lol. There are always trade-offs in this life, I suppose. We'll be back soon! read more

So yummy - how is this place not jam-packed every night??? Come here a few times - love the interior space because it's roomy and feels like I'm in Korea. Food is so good! I love the hotstone Bibimbap and the curry. I'll definitely try more menu options in the future but after trying them once I crave them and have a hard time giving other options the chance. Have brought friends and family here and they love it too. Will be back in the future! read more
HUGE katsu, came out quick and extremely hot! Big enough for 2-3 people to share, it could use more curry to help balance out the rice to meat ratio. Very crispy and thin, not too oily! We came when it first opened so there was no wait, parking was easy too. The side dishes were yummy and helped cut the grease! The pork katsu curry came out to be about $30 with tax and tip. Great for larger parties so you can order multiple dishes to share. Definitely recommend if you're looking for some good katsu! read more

Really enjoyed this place and portions are huge. Ordered the curry chicken katsu and the beef hotstone bowl. So delicious! The portions are huge and good to feed 3-4 people if you order a lot of dishes. The curry is delicious, not overly spiced. Everything was really tasty. We came right at opening and no one was there but after 15 minutes, lots of people coming in. They do take reservations. The staff are nice and always checked in. They also have sides of macaroni salad, radish, fish cake and bean sprouts. I really liked the macaroni salad! They refill that too. This is in a strip mall so theres free parking. Bathrooms are clean but no changing area for babies. About 8-9 tables inside. read more

Worth checking out. More like a 3.5/5 so I rounded up. We ordered: Dawa Chicken (fried chicken) - overly breaded in my opinion. Very good sauce taste. Maybe a bit over done. Garlic Su Yuk (sous vide pork belly) - very solid but felt rich. Need something to help with richness. Pork Katsu Curry - kind of dry and overcooked in my opinion. Very cool concept and super hot with the stone bowl so be careful. I still enjoyed it. Banchan was very good. Service great and attentive. It's a nice small restaurant with simple interior. It is clean and you don't smell like fried oil after eating there. I recommend checking it out but not expecting stellar food. It's good food and more homely. read more
First time at Dawa kitchen and it did not disappoint! We came here on a Friday night around 7:30 and it was busy, but we got one of the last tables. The service was amazing, waiter was extremely attentive and helpful. We ordered by looking around to see what others had ordered and decided on a pork cutlet with curry, and it was plenty to share between the two of us I also got a Soju and ChatGPT told me the green grape was the best flavor for this brand and it was really yummy. I would say the food is extremely affordable here the pork was a tad dry so the curry was perfect with it, but I would try the chicken cutlet next time. I love Korean food like this. It reminds me of street food and I would definitely come back. parking is great. They have their own lot. Definitely check it out for an affordable meal. read more

A great late-night joint for a meal with friends! My friends were successfully influenced by their incredible cheese pulls popping up all over social media. We popped in one night for some casual bites and were not disappointed! The spread included their famed Mac & Corn Cheese, Dawa Chicken, and Korean Pancake (Shrimp). Everything was super solid! The Mac & Corn Cheese is just what it sounds like: corn cheese meets mac & cheese. Super indulgent and a really fun dish to share. The Dawa Chicken is their version of KFC (Korean Fried Chicken). It's boneless bites tossed in a K-style sauce. Korean pancakes are a classic and you really can't go wrong with these. You can choose from either shrimp or bulgogi. Super crispy and savory! read more
We decided to come here for dinner after seeing an IG post and saw how huge the katsu's are. For a Wednesday evening, we were seated right away. Service was friendly and we asked for a second batch of banchan and they were totally fine with it. The restaurant is clean and modern. Food: Curry Pork Katsu: definitely huge portion. Meets the hype! I am always wary of hype but this is good. Garlic siu yuk is my favorite. I'm waiting on the wait list 2nd time here (join it early and it's running 20m late this time) and we're going to get the braised beef and I'm sad we're not getting this. (The braised beef is a must try though so we'll see) I love good meat with rice the garlic and spicy and the curry katsu was very crispy and solid. I don't want mediocre curry cartoon and this meets my expectations. It's not the absolute best, but it's also solid, especially the portion... The overall cost is actually very reasonable permeable when you spit out after calculating eating all the leftovers! read more
This is an interesting take on Korean food. They seem to take classic Korean dishes with a little twist. The donkatsu was very good. The crust was very crispy while the pork was still tender. The gravy was nice as well. And the dish is huge. The braised beef is like the classic galbijjim (braised short ribs) but with other cuts of meat included. It was good, but I think the standard galbijjim would have been better ... I'm not sure the other cuts of meat were as good. Ttokboki was just ok. The sauce wasn't really like what we would have expected. The beef belly dish was a little on the bland side. The pork belly and bibimbap was also good. Overall, this place is a great value and some of the dishes were very good. But others were not as successful, and I think they would have been better off just going with a more standard approach. read more

Came here for dinner on a Friday night and the wait was around 20 mins for a party of 4. The restaurant is relatively small, but did not feel crowded and the service here was quick. We ordered 3 dishes and the portion sizes were huge (we even had leftovers). All of the side dishes were great as well -- the acidity of the cucumber, kimchi, and radish definitely helped to balance out the heaviness of the other dishes. Chicken Katsu Curry - 3/5 This was our least favorite dish out of what we ordered. We were looking forward to it because that is what initially drew us to the restaurant, but we found the chicken to be a bit tough and it lacked flavor. The curry itself also needed more flavor, so the dish overall was a bit of a let down. Would recommend Hako in Irvine if you're looking for good katsu tho! Japchae - 4/5 We were confused when it came out and looked like a soup but we were pleasently surprised. The japchae had good flavor and I appreciated the amount of veggies in it. However, it was nothing extraordinary Korean Pancake with Bulgogi - 4/5 The pancake was super crispy and thin (and not too greasy), and the sauce paired nicely with it! It was topped with bulgogi, which I found to be a bit to sweet for my liking. I also wish the bulgogi or the protein was in the pancake itself rather than just on top. read more
Wow. Super impressed by the portions at Dawa Kitchen. Stopped by for dinner and found the ambiance to be a bit divey and dark. However, the portions blew us away. While the food isn't super outstanding, it slaps for the hungry soul. The beef belly was an umami mix with the fried garlic carrying the dish (a bit too oily tho). The pork katsu was somewhat over seasoned with both salt and pepper. Side note: We were super hungry, but the banchan came out with the food. All of them were pretty good but we found the macaroni salad to be a bit sweet. read more

Dawa = Giant katsu It is not a hype!! The giant katsu is ginormous and delicious. Actually the portion is very generous here. We (party of 3) ordered the Katsu curry chicken, Army Ramen ($17) and Garlic Su Yuk ($32), and had plenty of leftover. Food was tasty, and we liked everything we got. Service was great, despite only one person running the floor, and the restaurant was full. He was hardworking, and very attentive to the customers. read more

This place lured me with the various videos with the high katsu and large portions. Came here for an early dinner and a few tables were filled but plenty of seating. Ordered the katsu curry, beef belly and Army ramen. Katsu curry was huge with rice and curry. The breading wasn't completely bread crumbs like you would expect and it was something that was closer to a wet batter which was crispy but a little different. Beef belly was thin slices of beef with corn and rice, similar to pepper lunch. Army ramen was meaty with a rich broth and ramen noodles. Overall the portions were giant and decent value. The katsu was big but a little gimmicky and a let down. Great place for a group to share various options. read more
Garlic pork belly: I really liked this dish, it's very simple, but has a lot of flavor, especially if you add on all the toppings that it comes with. The meat stays very soft and juicy, even if you wait and eat it after it stops sizzling. Very good weather on its own or with a bit of rice with it. 8/10 Spicy curry pork Katsu: this is a very fun dish. Can definitely be shared among 4 to 6 people, depending on how many other dishes are being ordered. Katsu was cooked very nicely, not too dry, and still a decent bite. I do wish that they gave more of the curry and rice though. The curry had a side spice to it. Nothing that was intolerable or hard to enjoy. 9/10 Army stew: wasn't my favorite dish of the day. It had everything that we were supposed to have, however, it felt very fatty and salty without having the punch of flavor you would normally expect. There's a good amount of spam, sausage, and other toppings, but I don't think I would get it again. 5/10 Beef belly bibimbap: one of my favorite dishes of the day. There was a good amount of toppings, was not too fatty, but still being very flavorful. It looked like they definitely gave a good portion of the beef belly as well, and did not overload with just vegetables. I would definitely get this again. (if you like spice, you can ask for a side of the gochujang sauce they normally give with the other bibimbap for a little kick, but it's still more sweet than spicy overall). 9/10 read more

Dawa HAS to be one of my favorite Korean restaurants! I've been here countless times with my family and it hits every time. There's usually no wait when I go later at night, but I would definitely get on the waitlist if you are planning to come at peak dinner times. The inside is dimly lit and has a nice ambience with korean music playing. All dishes are HUGE and shareable and the prices are super reasonable! My brother and I sometimes literally just get one dish and that with the sides is enough for us to even have leftovers. The sides are soo good and I am especially obsessed with their kimchi. The workers are super quick at refilling them! For food, I've been here do many times that I've gotten to order a LOT of their menu! Everything is always coming out piping hot and definitely made after ordered. I've tried the beef belly ramen, beef soup, garlic su yuk, mac and cheese corn, bimbimbap, and spicy braised beef. The beef belly ramen was a huge portion and delicious! The broth was very rich from the beef belly and I loved the spice. The beef soup was a classic and healed something in me when I was sick and had it. I loved it with glass noodle. My only complaint was that the beef was a bit hard, but they gave soo much meat I was surprised. The garlic su yuk is my favorite!! It is in a hot stone pot with bone broth soup. It is so addicting on top of rice with all the toppings. Mac and cheese corn was very cheesy so it might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I LOVE cheese so it was not a problem for me! There's definitely more mac and I wish there was more corn instead, but I like the overall sweetness of it. The bimbimbap is huge and sizzling hot with a lot of veggies! I get it with bulgogi on top. I like their sauce and that you can control how much you want on it! Hubby and I finally got a chance to try this gem in Garden Grove! For starters, parking can be challenging because this establishment shares its lot with a laundromat and other restaurants. And the restaurant is on the smaller side, so larger parties will be a tad harder to accommodate but they do their best! We arrived around 5:30pm and it was pretty empty, besides 2 other tables. But around 6-6:30, people started coming in! So dinner time is definitely busy. Water, utensils and napkins provided when sat down. QR code menu or one giant menu per table. Banchan comes out with your order and thankfully everything comes out together! Service was not as attentive as other Korean places but honestly it didn't bother me because they were super kind when flagged down. We ordered a lot of food, because we are greedy like that. 1. Korean Pancake with bulgogi 2. Dawa Chicken 3. Garlic Su Yuk 4. Mac and Corn Cheese Honorable mentions we didn't order this time that we will next time: Chicken katsu with curry Army Stew Ramen Braised Short Ribs Everything came out piping hot and fresh! Definitely made to order. Nothing tasted like it was prepared beforehand. And all of the flavors compliments each dish. Notes: Garlic Su Yuk comes out in a stone pot and it's accompanied by garlic, chives and a special gochujang ssamjang sauce! It's best eaten with a little bit of rice and everything in one bite. Mac n Corn Cheese was definitely a cool concept but it had a lot more macaroni noodles than corn. The mayo sauce is on the sweeter side and when it comes to corn cheese, I prefer my corn to be sweet not the sauce. My sister found this spot on Yelp to celebrate my birthday, and overall it was a solid choice for Orange County. The braised beef was the standout--rich and comforting, and reminiscent of Sun Nong Dan, though it leaned just a bit sweet for my taste. The pork belly was very flavorful with the chives, minced pear, and spicy sauce, and was one of our favorite dishes. The chicken katsu was also well done, served with rice and a generously sized portion. Service tapered off a bit toward the end of our visit. Since it was close to closing time, we weren't offered fresh utensils when my sister brought out a cake to celebrate my birthday, which slightly took away from the moment. The ambiance is simple--a small, unassuming shop tucked into an unexpected plaza--so expectations should be set accordingly. Stopped by with a coworker after she mentioned this spot is family-owned by the same people behind Jin Cook. The menu feels very similar, though each location has a few unique items of its own. I ended up trying the beef belly rice and enjoyed it--but very oily! The suyuk seemed a little tough. Staff was friendly and didn't wait long to be seated or getting our food. I LOVE LOVE LOVE dawa! This is definitely my go to korean food place in the area! Their portions are sharing size and typically 1 dish is good for 2 people. Rule of thumb is to order 1-2 less dishes than the amount of people you have. My most recommended food would be the bulgogi rice & mac and corn cheese. It's an amazing combo! if you were to try one thing that's what I would recommend. They are not shy with their cheese!! I will come back anytime. Unfortunately, we don’t take any reservations. You can join the yelp waiting list by visiting our restaurant. The seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

We do not carry any alcoholic beverages yet, but the good news is we are currently working on it, so will have them soon! Yay😉
Do they have enough parking space available during the weekend?
There is some extra parking in the back but now that it's getting more popular parking can be difficult.
