I sat at the bar and met an interesting woman named Linda who seemed to be a regular but the bartender never saw her before tonight. She was introducing me to all the patrons and I shared my ciopinno with her since she didn't like her ceviche and sent it back. The food is not great by any stretch of the imagination but boy is it FUN here!! Would I come back and hang, yes! Would I eat the ciopinno again? Definitely not!! I have separate reviews for the two times I dined here. The breakfast terrible. Ordered an avocado toast with a side of eggs. I asked for no pickles onions instead I got extra plus an inedible star anise. Eggs had no seasoning. And the toast was basically a salad. Dinner here is okay. I ordered the halibut special which came with coconut rice, Cauliflower purée, broccoli and a lemon cream sauce. Fish was over cooked at least the crust was crunchy. Not enough purée to balance out the dry fish and lack of contrast in seasoning. Lemon sauce didn't add much to the fish. The rice was slightly over cooked as well. The broccoli an afterthought steamed and drizzled with a balsamic glaze. Just not a composed dish. Dessert was mediocre. The shortbread cookie not short at all. Service was great though! read more

Friday night dinner did not disappoint. The kitchen was behind so our server offered us complimentary fresh sourdough bread with pesto which was so fresh! The pesto was a surprisingly good addition. The crab cake appetizer was flavorful but could have done without the peppers. My jidori confit chicken was soooo fork tender under the crisp skin. A little heavy with sweet potato purée. Would've been better paired with a mashed potato or polenta. The lamb chops were a large portion and cooked well. Unfortunately they ran out of the mint chutney. The filet mignon was overcooked, we asked for medium rare and it came out medium. Over all we had good experience. Beautiful restaurant. Excellent service. Food was delicious. A little pricey but that's expected for a hotel restaurant. They validate parking. You do get a lot of people from the pool going to the bar to grab drinks which may bother some people. Not only was his service on point but his genuine human interaction was. In his words "they wish they could duplicate me" Indeed they wish they could. My fiancé and I went to this restaurant as part of my company's Xmas dinner. We were surprised that it was inside the Hilton restaurant and there was a parking garage (first 2 hours are for free). It was beautiful inside with all the Christmas decorations and there was a cute Christmas tree in the middle of the room. Our server (I forgot his name but he wore glasses) was funny, kind, and patient. I liked my Harvest Mule drink and had bourbon in it. We had clam chowder and salad as an appetizer and I had the filet mignon, my fiancé had the salmon. I liked my filet it was done rare medium and the sauce they used was super delicious that it went with the mash potatoes. My fiancé liked his salmon but it was strong sauce taste for him. We had a good time but we didn't enjoy the fact that a lot of people were standing around the bar and close to our table. They don't bother to sit on the high chairs or go outside with the fire pit. Kids were running around and being loud. It would've been fine if they were sitting with family but they were running in and out of the restaurant from the outside. The music was also too loud that we couldn't hear what other people in the group were saying. It was a fabulous dinner but maybe place a table of a large group away from an entrance where people come in and out in towels and backpacks would be a good change. read more

Went to dinner for our anniversary thinking it would be romantic and good food. The food was terrible, very pricey and service was also very poor. Seems like a tourist attraction with it being at Hilton Hotel and next to beach campgrounds. Online says it's a romantic attraction but people running around in board shorts and kids right out of the pool. Tough with the swimming pool being next to restaurant to be romantic. We were even given a dirty bowl to share our seafood ciopino soup. Unreal. Both appetizers we had had no flavor , crab cake tasted like quickly thawed out canned tuna deep fried , and the mushroom dip was the same. Wife ordered Mac and cheese to just eat something and it was literally noodles in water . I hate to be posting bad reviews but save your money and time. We drove down to Carlsbad before deciding to move here and found this gem on our way down the coast. The service is friendly and attentive. The ambiance is wonderful. We had breakfast outside with our little dog and when we were finished with the delicious food, we moved over to the fireplace and enjoyed the view of the ocean. This was one of the factors that put us over the edge to make our move from the Bay Area to Carlsbad. We will put Chandler's on our list of favorites to visit often. We had a wonderful meal with family at Chandlers! All of us had exceptional meals and the food was outstanding from the appetizers to the main! We came at night so we didn't get to enjoy the Oceanview dining but I bet during the day it's spectacular. My favourite item was the crab cakes! They were so delicious!My steak was cooked to perfection! The flatbread was tasty and perfect for sharing! The drinks were yummy, it was all very good! If you're coming for date night, work, or a special occasion you won't be disappointed, the food really was incredible. Wanted to give a shout-out to our server Bryce who took excellent care of us. Added to our dining experience with laughter and kindness. Highly recommend Chandlers if you're in the area. (I wish they had more options on their dinner menu, but was glad they were willing to accommodate the addition.) I also included the sourdough boule with the pesto--warm sourdough can't be beat. Finished up with the crème brûlée which just needed a dollop of whipped cream to make it perfect--sadly it didn't come with that. Reason for the 2 stars... service was friendly and view is beautiful. Our order: 2 bloody Mary's Pork belly Benedict Pancakes Bloody Mary's were nothing special. Clearly just tomato juice, cheap vodka, and a dash of Tabasco. Came with 2 green olives. As a former bartender, I can say that it doesn't take much to level things up. A salted rim, a dash of celery salt, a cheap sprig of celery or a long slice of Carrot to garnish the glass and a lime wedge. Pork belly Benedict was disappointing. Eggs came out hard boiled. Had to send them back. Server was confused at first about what the issue was until I outright said that the yolk on a poached egg is supposed to be runny when poked. Potatoes were cold. There was also one lonely piece of a bell pepper tossed in like the potatoes were aupposed to be sauteed with some onions and peppers, but it was so sparse that I wasn't sure if the bell pepper was an accident. Pork belly was tough and over salted. Tasted like it used to be tender but was microwaved before serving it for breakfast. Pancakes... I don't know how these were lacking. They were undercooked and tasted like raw flour. Butter was served on the side in the little gold foil packets and was hard. I would suggest just putting the pat of butter on top (plus not using the prewrapped pats will save some cost). Side of syrup was really small for such a large stack of pancakes. Again, service was nice. View is gorgeous. I hope this place implements some constructive feedback because it has a lot of potential. read more

We've enjoyed this restaurant multiple times over the years so I thought it high time I left a review. The short review: I love this place and if you've never tried it, please do! The longer review: Come for the view, stay for the food. OK a little cliched, I know but it's true. Chandler's sits right across the PCH from the ocean and the sunsets are spectacular! We love sitting on the patio with a beverage and some appies, soaking up the last of the sun's rays and watching the colors splash across the sky. It's magical. And to make it even better? The food. The macadamia nut-crusted calamari is so light and delicious. It's not at all greasy and the calamari is super tender. The beet salad is also a must try if you're a beet fan. It's the perfect size for two people to split, with perfectly ripe beets and not too much dressing. I could wax on and on about the menu, but suffice to say I've never had something I didn't enjoy immensely and if I wrote about everything here, you'd get bored and stop reading. So what about the wait staff? Very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I felt like our waiter, Michael, very accurately described the items we asked him about from adult beverages to appetizers. He was attentive without being intrusive and our items came out quickly. He's great at his job and an asset to the restaurant and hotel. Thank you Michael for taking such great care of us! Drove down from L.A. Gorgeous ocean view! Located across the street from the beach, inside a hotel lobby. We sat outside because it's SoCal and of course it was a beautiful day! Our server was so sweet I think her name is Kelly from New Jersey. She was very attentive and personable. She gave us recommendations and chatted for a bit when it wasn't busy. Butterfly Margarita was delicious! Added a little Tajine as recommended by our server. I had a delicious angus burger. Cooked to perfection. The crab cakes were good, what I'd expect. We also had the tator tots, also good. My wife had the Cobb salad and said it was delicious. We did have an issue with the salad, but it was immediately rectified and the manager came out to address it and apologize. We had a Tuesday night reservation to celebrate my daughter's birthday. With it being mid-week, the restaurant was not busy at all. Our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating however, the kitchen was extremely slow. We were a party of 8 and all meals came out staggered up to 5 minutes apart. Even worse, the side dishes that we ordered did not arrive until everyone had already finished eating their entrees. We requested that they just be removed from the check, as we we were done eating at that point. In addition 4 people in our party ordered mixed cocktails and not one of them was made correctly. To say that we were disappointed by the overall dining experience is an understatement. I can't imagine how much worse it would have been if they were actually busy. I definitely wouldn't recommend, at this price point there are much better places to dine. read more

Today (Christmas Eve) I was told no buffet available unless you do the $100 Christmas one on Christmas Day, so that's a special event thing I guess now. It's been a while since I was here. The odd thing is, the breakfast menu is not available? Only the brunch one for weekends. This limits the menu further. The website did not say anything related that I could see and I just double checked that now. So this is a disappointment to me and my guest. I'd recommend going to a regular breakfast place to save money and have options. This place was mainly about view not food choices anymore.
