We came for the Thanksgiving Buffett. For $100/person it was disappointing. The prime rib was over cooked -no white meat turkey on the first pass -came back to check later and there was some. The mashed potatoes were dry and had no flavor. The stuffing was mushy and had no herbs or seasonings or anything crunchy like celery, the roasted Brussels sprouts and cauliflower were pure mush and inedible. Nothing green except salad. Made a reservation for the same day to celebrate husbands birthday. Came in early and were greeted ans seated right away at the outside area. It was nice, cozy and warm. Love the nice plant decor on the table. Love the vibe. We ordered the chicken sate for the appetizer, Rey of sunshine for the drink, Thai cucumber noodle, pan seared salmon and they offer kids menu as well. Everything taste delish, definitely gotta try the chocolate almond dome.... Wow!!!! Thank goodness! It was the bomb!!!! Our server Amanda and the guy that was helping her were great!!!!! Went for breakfast on Valentine's Day. The hostess and all service staff were very friendly. Our server, Joanne, is outstanding. We sat by a window looking out to the Pacific on a beautiful morning. Wow! How convenient to have a nice restaurant located right on the Hilton property, next to the pool and with an outdoor patio area with a view of the beach and ocean right across the street. Covered parking is close by but $10 for 1-3 hours, however they will validate for the 3 hours so get your validation ticket and save the $10. I think valet was $15. The interior is very modern and looks nice. There are some large TVs in the bar area so you can watch the game while you are dining. Unfortunately there is plenty of tile so the acoustics are bad and a large, rowdy group of 10 fans sounds like 100. It was super noisy. Everyone of the staff were friendly, accommodating, helpful, and smiling. the hostess went out of her way to accommodate 6 of us by putting tables together that normally don't go together. The menu has plenty of options, there are also a kids menu with kids desserts, and a dessert menu. So there should be something for everyone. Price range from about $10 for starters to $36 market price for the seared Ahi tuna dish. The sodas have free refills and there was a dedicated drink refill person who was very timely with refills. The Blue cheese burger was tasty and only about $16 with fries. The burrata and tomato starter was scrumptious but I wish they didn't just plop the burrata on top. The rock shrimp starter and dipping sauce were sweet, savory, and enjoyable, yum. The poke starter was delicious as well and came with some other things like a quinoa and some crackers. The kids cookie tower dessert is a nice treat and neat idea. The cookies were ok and the kids enjoyed them. The smores dome was visually appealing, but also taste bud tantalizing. read more

Absolutely the WORST!!!! Don't bother. Waited 15 minutes to get a menu. Another 15 to get an ice tea, finally ordered and 40 minutes later no food, no ice tea refill,no waitress ... nothing. The table next to us complained about their food and another table couldn't even get their check. We ended up walking out and going to a fast food place as it was after 10pm. Never again. First of all if you're a sunset lover You can't beat the sunsets with live entertainment at Chandlers. Second ,it's soup season and their thick clam chowder with it's tender clams does not disappoint! We have lived in Carlsbad for years now and have heard about, passed by and even seen Chandler's on Yelp but tonight we thought to give it a try. Walking through the hotel lobby towards the restaurant, made me feel giddy like we were on vacation. The hostess was warm and welcoming. She brought us to a great table outside with a nice ocean view. She mentioned Jill was our server and would be over shortly. We had no idea who or what kind of an experience we were about to embark on with this waitress named Jill. She was so friendly and could describe the menu in great detail. She went above and beyond to make our dining experience wonderful and personal. It was obvious that the details of each dish were thoughtfully created by the chefs. The food was excellent. We will definitely be back. Oh, and they validate parking and give locals 10% off your food bill!! read more

I really enjoyed this place. I was in town for work, and my cousin made reservations at this restaurant. The food was fresh and delicious. I even forgot to take a photo of the clam chowder because I devoured that too quickly. Even though it was a chilly day and fog was setting in, the ambiance was still pretty nice. They had heaters outside which protected us from the cold. But what really made the experience exceptional was our server, Bridgette. Not only was she attentive, but when I asked for recommendations, she did not hesitate to share the dishes she liked the most and why. I ended up going with some of her recommendations, and ended up enjoying them. I would definitely go back here next time I'm in town. read more

Tonight had very fresh fish tacos and my wife loved the heirloom burrata salad. Here's the deal. It's a hotel restaurant so no breaks on price. The happy hour is just a smile hour... two dollars off. The chard is $14! So tough to make it a watering hole. I've never left under $100. Ever. So remember where you are and just let go. After all, think of how much you saved not having a room. The food was very good. We tried most of the appetizers and liked the flat bread best. Breakfast was very good, especially the lobster hash. The service was sad. First night, we did the happy hour. Very slow service. It took 20 at least minutes to receive each order. We kept asking our waitress how long each order would take, and she did not catch on. At 6:35, we placed a drink order and asked her to come back at 6:55 so we could get another round before happy hour ended at 7. She returned at 7:05 with our order and said sorry, happy hour is over. So we waited 30 minutes to get our oder then couldn't order another round at happy hour. A couple days later, we met for breakfast, and the service was bad again. It was very slow, and we kept asking for coffee refills, but they kept forgetting. Gave 3 stars because the food was very good read more

What a wonderful place to enjoy a beautiful Carlsbad sunset. We sat outside on their dog friendly patio, they had plenty of heat lamps as well as a fireplace. The views are awesome and the ambiance is lovely. I got the vegan zoodles and added salmon and I am drooling just writing about it. The vegan peanut sauce that they put on it was to die for and the salmon was cooked perfectly. My friend got the ahi and he basically licked the plate. We both got a vodka drink (can't remember the name but it was something with the word sun in it) and it was refreshing and strong. Great spot for date night! #1 piece of advice though - don't let your server tell you there isn't happy hour on the weekends! It's from 3p-6p DAILY. Our server was reluctant, but finally agreed there was indeed happy hour (we visited on a Saturday at 5p) The outdoor patio was beautiful and there was plenty of seating available even during Covid. The sunset was beautiful and the food was excellent! We ordered the mussels and the short rib flatbread and they were both DELICIOUS! Plus they were filling for two people to share. Chandler's Restaurant and Lounge is spot that is located inside the Cape Rey Carlsbad Beach Hotel. They had outdoor dining available during these Covid times. I'm glad they were open and that we were able to dine here during our stay in Carlsbad. My girlfriend an I decided to order the lobster tacos and poke dishes. The lobster tacos were tasty and the poke was very fresh. The food was good and the servers were very nice. My only complaint was that we were seated at a table that had no shielding from the sun. So the sun was constantly in my eyes, and it was somewhat difficult to enjoy the meal that way. The servers were unable to do anything about it, which we understood, since it was an outdoor seating area. All in all, I think it was a nice restaurant and would recommend dining here if you were in the area. read more

Terrible service when we attended with a reservation. We waited over an hour for our food to be served and on top of that, the orders were incorrect. The poor waiter and servers were so stressed, the manager was walking around the restaraunt and she knew there was a lot of incorrect things going on, she never ONCE came over to talk to us. My wife and I have been going here for years. However, we recently moved but were back in town for a visit. Stayed at the hotel because of its fabulous location and the fact that Chandlers is there. We had family in town joining us as well and Chandlers served as a perfect spot to get together and chill. Watching the sunset there is phenomenal. The food is great and the menu has something for everyone. Mussels were super and the charcuterie board did not disappoint. We love the bar area! It is usually pretty relaxed and not horribly busy but can be during peak season. We particularly enjoyed Sierra! She was so professional, efficient, sweet and SUPER fun/funny! We went to the bar all 3 days of our stay just because of her. Oh and Tyler is a great guy as well! We just spent more time with Sierra! Stayed at the resort for a few days of celebrating my birthday. The facility was nice - modern and clean. We enjoyed HH at the bar. There was Tyler and another gentleman who was on his last day before starting a new career. THE DRINKS WERE GREAT!!!! (The food menu was tasty- but the lobster nachos are a bit skimpy....flavorful but definitely minimal). My excitement for the creativity in these bartenders prompted more to be made and enjoyed by my husband and I. The few locals and hotel guests that joined at the bar were also friendly. It was a vibe until 2 regulars on their 3rd or 4th bar stop came to take over all conversations with their 2 obnoxious old men from the muppets- type antics. Anyway as for cocktails- we had the lavender smoke n fizz, spicy martini, spicy margarita secret concoction an old fashioned and a coffee liquor (something 43) with espresso. All were very tasty!! He did not have much energy when you spoke with him. FOOD Cheese & Charcuterie - They gave you one cured meat and it was very hard. Great flavor but it was extremely tough. The cheese selection was just okay as well. Lobster & Shrimp Tacos - I think these were the highlight of the meal. We did the pre fix menu for New Year's Eve and it was a nice vibe filled with couples, singles, families inside the Cape Rey hotel. Our server was very friendly and we enjoyed speaking with her. The muse (pre appetizer) was a tuna or salmon tartar and the vegetarian version was an eggplant version, both very tasty and left you wanting more. The potato leek soup was delicious, not something I thought I would enjoy but it's taste was creamy, mild, and the corn flan in the center added a variation in consistency that was nice to have with the soup. The winter salad was simple mixed greens, dried cranberries, spiced pistachios. It could have used more of the Meyer lemon vinaigrette and to be honest the lettuce appeared to have some wilting and bad parts. Main meal was next, one was the New York steak and one the risotto with side of vegetables. Risotto to me was inedible - the consistency and flavor both very off - and I am a person that ultimately will eat whatever in front of me. The steak was tastier especially with the scalloped Potatoes cooked perfectly. The dessert was an almond cake (not pictured) and a linzer tart that were both present. We did one wine pairing menu and thought everything was paired nicely. Overall, realistically should be 3-3.5 stars from food tasting and price, but the ambiance, happy spirit of nye, and how kind and accommodating our server was added to our experience. read more

I'm giving this restaurant 5 stars because the food was really delicious and their drinks were well crafted. And the price is right, not over the top. I will say staying there over the holidays made eating there difficult on days when they have the prix fixe menu. We just had to go elsewhere for food which proved to be a problem for us when so many other places closed Christmas Eve. Two of my kids never did get dinner. The prix fixe menu wasn't appetizing for younger patrons. read more

Food quality meats needs attention Salamon too salty need more seasonings The filet mignon is as good as it sounds bit over cooked tips The timing of the seasoning is important. I tasted lot of salt on the filet double up Give the filets seasoning of your choice. Easy on the salt Do it just before grilling. I use a nice sprinkling of my 7:2:2 seasoning but just a nice sprinkle of pepper will do. Will come again. read more

I went down prior to my husband. The young seating hosted told me they had no more outside seating. I told her there were plenty of tables outside. She refused to seat me outside. I had my husband call and he got seating right away. This was very offensive to me. I spoke to the manager about it after I ask the hosted to go get her manager so I could complain. read more
