Wow. Haven't been to Chang's in about 2 years. The prices were great, food was delicious, service was prompt and they still do a free birthday meal on your actual birthday (with ID). Loved the free soup and ice cream with each meal, too. I always get two bowls (one meat and one buddies veggies). Thanks for the great free birthday meal!

I was looking for a buffet in this part of town and this came up on my radar. The building looks a little old and the service is lacking. There is unlimited Mongolian BBQ. The selection is not that great. There are 4 meats, 2 noodles, and maybe 10-15 items to put in the bowl. There is a good variety of sauces to mix. The cooks never took long to cook my food. The service is lacking and the selection is not that great. Good value but no wow factor.

I haven't been to this location ever but I figured they were all the same, I was very wrong. This particular Chang's is a bit beat up and I didn't enjoy our dinning experience too much. Let me say that our waiters customer service was great, he was older but still funny and playful. They kept our water filled and were always asking if we were okay. I was saddened to see super small shrimp because that isn't stir fry shrimp... In my opinion. The other Chang's in NE Portland has bigger shrimp. I only ate one plate which isn't unusual but the taste was just off to me. When you can make better food at home it's hard to settle for less. I wouldn't recommend Chang's to anyone. Happy Yelping...

Luckily, there's a fair amount of counter space to place bowls once you're close to the grill, plus the aisle is wide enough that the grill line doesn't get in the way of the food bar.

There are booths where you order food to come cooked, and then the hot pot tables where you order the ingredients and cook them yourself. It's very interactive, and they have plenty of meats, vegetables, tofu, dumplings and noodles. You can choose the broth you want at the beginning and they'll bring out the pot. Each pot is split in 2, so you order one regular broth and then a spicy broth. They also have a veggie broth, which I really enjoy. You can grab things from the salad bar, and they have different sauces/oils you can take and add to your soup. You're able to really customize the experience. It's a fun little experiment you get to do with your friends and family. The space itself is busy with customers walking around and staff brining drinks and food, but it's not crazy. We joke that the steam from the soup is a nice facial treatment. Lol. You can end the night with an ice cream cone and lollipop in the waiting room. I've been a few times, and I will say the first time is overwhelming with trying to figure out what to do, but after that you get more confident and interested in curating a soup that's to your taste.

Even though there were plenty of larger tables available, we were told we had to squeeze into a small dirty booth. The pink/red-haired male employee and the girl with glasses who seated us were rude as hell and acted like we were an inconvenience instead of paying customers. Their attitude alone made us decide to leave without ordering. We've enjoyed coming here for a long time, but this experience changed our minds. Management really needs to address the customer service from those two employees before more loyal customers walk out like we did.
