Don't try to talk to the manager about your experience because it will be down hill. You pay for an experience and food, not to be berated by their manager and wait behind employees. Being refused the ability to talk to the owners as well as being told by the manager you are un-American and there is nothing in the Constitution preventing employees from being served first all because you have normal expectations of being treated like a paying customer is not worth the price. The food is great because you make it and they cook it. The only thing is you cant take out the left overs to go home with. I tried to take home my daughters food that she barley touched, and they would not let us take it. such a waste of food. They should change there ways on taking the left overs at the end of the meal for it just goes in the trash. Sham on you $5 for 5 bites of food. read more

Not sure what the big deal is about this place; found it gross. Lots of food, but it's like a pricier chow line. It's cool you get to customize (like any Mongolian grill) but I found the sauces too salty even when striving for a mild combination. Soup was very salty, too. Also, saw the waitress wiping-down all the areas with the same rag, which is a no-no as she wiped down the meat, pork, chicken, and seafood area and then strolled down to the veggie area and wiped with the same rag. Another customer was given the wrong dish; this is bound to happen, but their process is actually pretty good considering. The buffet line is packed tightly against the wall; at the end of the buffet line is where the cook stations are. I saw a couple of people cut in line; the logistics of the line really stink, but they're hampered by the layout of the place. read more

This is a place to bring your imagination and an appetite. Pay the price put together your ingredients and the grill masters cook it up with a half dozen other diners selection. Don't expect to get only your food as they are a bit sloppy keeping the diners dinners separate. if you make the right choices you can eat pretty well. read more

I love Chang's! Making your own combinations of food and sauce makes for a fun time in my book. Using the crepes to make "Asian Burritos" with the Oyster sauce that is on the table leaves my tummy feeling full and my hands covered in tasty goodness. Fantastic. Fresh. All you can eat buffet. You choose your own meats and vegetables. You control how much of what you want and your able to sample smaller plates of different things during slower times. When they're busy, they're really busy. Best to call ahead if dining between 6 and 8pm. Lunch is exactly the same as dinner but cheaper. If you aren't one who eats a lot, lunch is more reasonably priced. Pretty neat sight watching the chefs whip up the food right in front of you. In all honesty, changs is very similar to benihanas. The only real difference in my opinion happens to be the price. Weird that both establishments have a terrible parking lot structure. Hard to find a spot when its busy since the lot is so small. Still good food in my opinion. read more

Just had lunch here with my husband. Food was great, but service was awful. The server were pretty rude. She didn't let us take our time to eat right and she was rushing our order. It wasn't busy at the time, so their was no need to rush us, if she was "busy" she could of came back to take our drink order. When we were paying to leave, the cashier, a young girl made a rude comment to another lady, probably the owner. The young lady told the older lady "See that's why I don't want to be a server, cause see he (referring to my husband) didn't even tip. And I'm needing to pay for school." Only if they knew that we did tip our server, regardless if she was rude. Me nor my husband didn't say anything. The Servers and Cashiers should really be professional. I think the Chiefs deserve the tips more and more recognition. read more

LOVE CHANGS!!! I do not come to the Portland area without hitting up Chang's. Mmmmmm!

The food was filling and tasty. The bar was mostly clean and nicely stocked. Workers were friendly. All the sauces on all the tables were completely full and after one table left, a worker was quick to grab the sauce bottles on their table and refill them to completely full again. I was just given a bowl of ice cream too! No complaints here! I'd eat here again. read more

Avoid this place like the plague on a Friday night. Very busy, will take nearly an hour to get some food. The complimentary hot and sour soup was horrific. Since the rest of the food is DIY it's always pretty good if you know what you are doing. Too expensive for what you get though. read more

Tons of veggies on the line. They give you soup, rice, and moo shu pancakes. Soup is always really hot and rice is fresh. I love making a bowl full of grilled veggies and eaton them with the pancakes. Icecream is served at the end. read more

Never ever again!!! I have loved Changs for years. I first started going to the now closed Chang's in Jansen Beach and had one great experience after another. We thought that we would go to the one in Beaverton because we missed it so much and have never had a worse experience. The cooks were cleaning the grill with the same utensils they cook with. Mmm... bits of burnt crumbs from other peoples meals. Then before my husband could get up to get his food (he was waiting for me to get back with food for myself and our 2 year old) we already had our check AND the cookies. Talk about rude! The people behind us pointed out a spot on the inside of the water glass and the waiter started to argue with her. What??? Just take the glass don't disagree. I like my Asian food hot and spicy, but most places can't come close to the level of spiciness I want. Came here and problem solved. My favorite dish is lots of beef and lamb + onions+cabbage+mushrooms+noodles + jalapeños and red chillies and cover that up with three spoons of soy sauce + one spoon of garlic+ two to three spoons of hot oil and bam!!! We were promptly seated, and the staff walked away. We waited for the staff to take our drink order before we got in line for the grill, but we were ignored, so we finally got up to take care of business. When we arrived at the buffet line, there was a stench of dirty dishwater, perhaps coming from the kitchen door, but it was kind of everywhere. Maybe someone had wiped down the counters with a dirty rag. It wasn't appetite-inducing. I went through 8 (eight!) bowls before finding a clean one into which I could put my meats/veggies. Maybe the dishwasher was having a bad day, but the seeming disregard for something so critical was a red flag. Despite signs which tell the customer to not return food that has fallen out of its container, I witnessed staff doing just that. Cross contamination, much? All these health issues aside, the food was good. The grillmaster was a bit inattentive to our food, which resulted in burnt noodles/less food than we had put into our bowls, so we had to go back for our fill. The inattentiveness wasn't because there were a lot of orders he was grilling. It was because he was talking to his friend. The customer comes first, right? Our server was a seemingly bi-polar guy. He went from super friendly to kind of grim and rushing us to get out. We chuckled at this, but we wonder what's up with that? We were given a bowl of rice, crepes ("cakes," he called them!), soup, fortune cookies, and ice cream. Nice! A hot pot of tea on the house would have made it a well rounded experience. I'll chalk this up to a bad day for the staff, but if I decide to return and I experience the same lack of health standards, the inspectors are getting a direct call. read more

Chang's is a great value for lunch. Servers can be a little pushy trying to turn the tables in the evenings. Best to avoid going here on fri/sat evenings unless you enjoy lines and noise. read more

Love the food, but the place does get very hectic during lunch, and occasionally the quality can suffer a little when they are packed like that. Otherwise they do have great food and service. The self serve food bar works well, most of the time, but gets messy when they are packed and there is not enough room for everyone that swarms the place between 11:45am and 12:15pm, so a 3rd line has to form for the grill along the back wall, right next to the two normal self serve food bar lines, and its really a tight fit there. Also, some people are not aware of this 3rd line that forms and so you occasionally get people cutting in there at the front of the food bar or other awkward situations as a result. This place has been a family staple of our for over 20 years! Great food, made hot and fresh at reasonable prices.

I used to like this place a lot! But after this visit, it will be my last. The layout of this restaurant is ill planned. To many people trying to get their food all at the same time. While others were trying to squeeze past the people waiting to get their food cooked. Everyone was bumping into each other. It was just to stressful and I do not like to be stressed when dining out. Our group had 5 adults and 2 children. Four of the adults and one child went up to get their food (one adult stayed with 1 child). After waiting 10 min of wait time and cooking time, everyone returned. The last adult in our group went up to get her food and it took 10 of wait and cooking time. By the time she returned the rest of our group had finished our dinner! This is not the place to go if you like to eat at the same time as everyone else in your group. Also, after waiting all that time to have my food cooked they only gave me half of what I originally had. That means they gave the other half of my food to someone else!! And it was the good half with the meat. I did not go back to get more, the line just to get the food cooked was way to long. It was not worth it. Our server was not the greatest. When I mentioned to him that we needed 2 more forks he picked up one from the end of our table and handed it to us, then he left. When he returned he did not have another fork, I had to remind him that we needed another fork. Same situation when we ordered some tea. When our server dropped off the check he did not offer us any ice cream. So, we had to flag him down after waiting. When we finally got our ice cream, I wished we hadn't gone through the effort of getting it. There was something off about the way it tasted. Definitely not like any vanilla I have ever tasted before(I don't mean that in a good way either). If old had a flavor this would be it!
