This used to be my family's go-to spot for lunch, dinner, entertainment, and just an overall great atmosphere! The location is convenient and we've always had a great experience -- lots of memories have been made here. However, this summer marks the first year with new owners and the transition from "Chapin's Restaurant" to "Chapin's Bayside". Quite honestly, the changes have not been for the best and my family is sad and disappointed to say that we will no longer be Chapin's customers. We gave them three separate chances to keep our business because adjusting to changes can take time. During the first experience, it was very disappointing to find that all of our favorite and "go to" meal options were no longer on the menu! Consistency was the problem during the second visit. We ordered mozzarella sticks for an appetizer, and while we absolutely loved them the first time -- it seemed like an entirely different recipe was used this second time, and it was no where near as good! The third time, we ordered clam chowder, a Cape Cod classic and something the menu has always had. This clam chowder was horrible -- overly thick and mushy potatoes! We had to send it back, a first for us when eating chowder, and they were kind enough to take it off the menu. We've been Chapin's fans since the "Joe Mac" days and it's awful to admit that the place really has gone downhill regarding food and a variety. Also, customer service has been far better in previous years, even when overly crowded. Our experiences with the wait staff and hostess were not as pleasant this year, and they were quite snobbish. Still, the fun, lively atmosphere remains and you just can't beat that convenient location. read more

The updated Chapins leaves a lot to be desired. Obviously the owners are trying to attract a younger, more affluent crowd. It's too bad since the older demographic group has more disposable income and are loyal customers to restaurants that cater to good food and decent service. Our dinners were okay, nothing special to write about. The chowder was better than in the past (less potatoes, creamier, but still limited clams). Swordfish portions were rather small, jasmine rice cool. The noise level was atrocious with the removal of dividers in the dining room. Felt more like a food hall than a restaurant. We doubt if we will return on our next visit to this part of the Cape. read more

They get points for making me feel that I'm in Kennebunkport, ME. But being a waitress in a restaurant just like this in Maine, I wasn't super impressed with food overall. I got the broiled seafood medly.. fish scallops and shrimp. Comes with a potato and coleslaw.. $22+? Meh, it's The Cape I'm not surprised of the prices. I just was a little bored because there wasn't much flavor though everything was perfectly cooked. Our waitress forgot our sweet potato fries app- we were comped that. That was nice. She had trouble opening the twist cap to our bottle of wine- we laughed. She was nice, we liked her. It was SO loud in there, I had to yell to hear my friend that was seated next to me. What I was impressed with? NO WAIT. Though it was PACKED. Valet parking at the beginning of April? Come on, it isn't even the start of the season yet. read more

WORST. LOBSTER. ROLL. EVER. Really - I've been coming to the Cape for over 50 years. This was bad. Tiny nasty bits of tough lobster - got the "hot" one - which was actually luke warm. Any little pieces that DID resemble the remnants of a piece of claw or tail were still barely recognizable as lobster. Roll was not properly toasted- and I won't even mention the sad little soggy piece of lettuce. So put on your seat belt as this is the ultimate dichotomy review.... The good stuff - It's super clean, nice friendly staff and a great location. Phew, glad we got that out. Food - Ugh, a train wreck. I have been here in the past but never reviewed. Seems like the food was better in my memory than today but this place is like many other establishments up here. They make great money from the tourist and have enough of a local following to do very well financially, I'm sure. So I go with a layup of a Boston/Cape classic, the lobster roll. Chapin's puts theirs on the menu as a lobster salad roll which made me wonder how much lobster was actually in it. Well, the good news is it had a significant amount of lobster meat and was not over done with mayo. Unfortunately it was served on a massive roll which took away from the main attraction. In addition, the roll was not toasted well but enough to make you think it may just be stale on the outside. Sides were slaw and sweet potato fries. Slaw was scooped out of a 5 gal pail with a ice cream scoop. I'm OK getting my rice this way in Hawaii but for cole slaw, it's down right gross. Fries were terrible. Waffle cut and from frozen they were baked but not given enough attention and ultimately were a soggy mess. As for ambiance, the guitar playing dude in the bar really pairs well with the Geritol crowd. As Rodney said, "It's the dance of the living dead" and "This lobster roll still has marks where the jockey was hitting it". Value = Quality / Cost and $43 bucks for a lobster roll and a beer is more shameful than what the government takes out of our hide. Great place - worth the wait - food is delicious! Complimentary Valet parking - please tip. :) We ate at the bar and although packed, was very comfortable. The bartender was awesome - we had surprisingly great service given how crowded it was. We had the stuff quahog - Plentiful & spicy but very "bready" & dry - I didn't like that everything was so well blended together to the point where It was like a clam muffin. We are on a quest for the best quahog this summer that this one was good, but didn't stack up. Not so with the stuffed haddock! That was SINFULLY good. I may think that I was eating healthy by ordering fish until they added the stuffing, the cheese, and bacon (yes, bacon)! It was fantastic!!! read more

Great menu and right off the beach! Large bar area perfect for meeting up with friends and plenty of popcorn for the kids to munch while you wait for a table. Open and airy dining rooms with seating for all size parties. Outside raw bar is trendy and a hot spot locally. Fried selection of seafood is standard however the breading is lighter and not greasy. The Cobb Salad is enormous! Shrimp, lobster along with the rest of a typical Cobb make this salad a huge meal. The kettle chips are a great starter and the wings are tasty as well. Waited in the car then called the # 5 minutes after our designated pick-up time and was told dismissively 'oh yeah, you can come in and get it from the hostess stand!!'...may not seem like a huge deal but I had an infant in the car with me, which is why I opted for a place that advertised curbside. I understand logistics during COVID are difficult, but businesses should not advertise SUPER EASY CURBSIDE if it's not possible. The default tip for curbside was also 25% (you can change it, but this is what it defaults to)...egregious to expect me to tip $16 to walk into a restaurant myself and to be dismissed on the phone. Very disappointed, I have severe shellfish allergies- lobster crab and shrimp, disclosed my allergies to waitress, after going back to kitchen, she came back and said that the swordfish was cooked on the same grill as shellfish so I asked if it could be cooked in its own pan( as I have had done on numerous other occasions in other restaurants), she went to double check and came back and I was told that I needed to pick another item. I chose the tacos with chicken and was told that was also not an option for me. I was told my only choice was a salad, as they couldn't guarantee that even the flat bread pizza would not have the risk of cross contamination. I will never go to this restaurant again!!! The manager did not even come out to speak to me.. ( especially after the waitress told me my only menu option was a salad), I have been living with this allergy for 40 years and never been so disgusted with a restaurant. Sat at the outdoor bar and our bartender, Tiana, was wonderful! She made me a mojito with muddled cucumber which was a nice Touch ID never tried before. This review is for Chapin's bayside. Utterly disappointed with the food and service. We were a group of 4, got seated in 40 minutes. That was expected in the present scenario. We ordered fried shrimp and nachos for appetizer. Instead of 7 large shrimp pieces we were served 6 in the plate. Once I pointed that out to server she was non-apologetically said okay will get one. But that never happened. For main course, we ordered 3 order of baked cod and shrimp linguine. All the dishes were short on seasoning, very bland. I was surprised to see when the server gave the food plate, the side of the plate had sauce on it. And top of that while eating I found penne pasta mixed with linguini ! Really unacceptable at the price we had to pay. Even for paying we never saw the exact bill amount, the server came with card machine and asked us to swipe. I don't know we paid correct. This place is a joke. Tonight I ordered the salmon, take-out. It is supposed to come with two sides, rice and broccoli. Obviously someone in the kitchen made a pretty laughable mistake. I called Chapin's to talk the manager. I figure they could just refund me for the meal, not the end of the world. Well, he says I can drive all the way back to get the additional items, but they won't refund anything. Seriously? Guys, customer service 101. You mess up and you are asking the customer to now do more work? This would be a simple fix to avoid an angry customer. The right answer would have been to deliver a new meal for free. At a minimum, offer a refund and credit to come try Chapin's again. But this guy has the audacity to not offer anything or even recognize their own ridiculous mistake. read more

This place was a bit odd. The food was fine and the portions big, but it wasn't spectacular. It was odd because it's a huge restaurant basically run by teenagers who didn't seem particularly happy to be there. The valets weren't exactly helpful when we weren't sure which spots to park in, the servers were decent but had no personality, and the ice cream servers seemed confused although they eventually got it going and worked hard. Bottom line, it's fine and I may give it another shot but I'm not exactly running back. read more

Not much flavor, most seafood tastes the same on the seafood platters, the Cole slaw is gross, the Cesar salad a wilted mess with too much thin tasteless dressing. We had to ask the waitress to check on our food, and when it came out it was cold. Not hot, not even warm, but cold. Always came here for the lobster pot pie, was a phenomenal dish. Came here with friends for that dish and was told it was no longer on the menu. The owners must hate money, as they scrapped the only dish that made them relevant. Highly recommend avoiding this place, as the new owners have clearly run this place into the ground. The original Chapin's was my favorite restaurant and I looked forward to going every year. I'm not sure if it's new management or what has happened, but everything has gone drastically downhill. There was a piece of potato in my clam chowder that was black from being burned in the bottom of the pan and there were flecks of burnt pieces all throughout the chowder because of it. The hot lobster roll used to be on a massive hot dog bun and is now on a cheap sub roll that gets soggy and doesn't add to the taste. There were also at least 3 pieces of shell in my roll that made eating this a horrible experience. My husband got a Caesar salad and the wings and he said the salad wasn't any good and couldn't even eat the wings because the texture was horrible and they were too spicy to even be edible. The stoli doli was still good, so at least there's that. The waitress was great and service overall was good. The tables around us did request for heaters to be turned on and they said only 1 out of the 4 worked right. I'm devastated that this is what Chapin's has turned into. read more

Stopped in for dinner tonight, but we won't be back. Waited too long to order. Had to ask twice for rolls. They brought the wrong beer and did not bring a glass for it. Waitress was trying, but she was obviously new. The pasta with chicken was served with undercooked, nay raw, chicken. Brought a new plate without chicken..couldn't stomach it...they didn't bring me a fork so I couldn't eat anyway. Waitress brought the check and charged me for the full pasta with chicken dish. Had the best Cod at the Cape at Chapin's after seeing the probably best twilight of my Life at the Chapin Beach Close by. Great atmosphere, great Nice people, famílies, singles,friends, couples, all, great staff, lovely waitresses, great live music with some Red Sox at the bar, great deck and amazing food! Dont think twice! This is the place to be! Hours can vary and It may stay open till late at night depending on the vibe! Chill, flexible, just like the Beach vibes! This is one of the best restaurants to hit while on vacation. It's a nice casual restaurant. They have valet parking once you arrive at the restaurant. They offer in door and outdoor seating. The menu offer's steak, and seafood. They also have a RAW bar they offer tables by table of the days catch . Fresh seafood and tender steak is to die for. Based on other negative reviews, we weren't sure if we should try it. This was our first time at Chapin's so we have no experience with the past ownership. Our waitress was bright and pleasant. She was very efficient with bringing our drinks and food and the place was full at 6:45 on a Tuesday. Those who had apps were very happy with them. We had the chowder, hummus plate, and a delicious caprese salad with native heirloom tomato. Everyone was also pleased with their entrees. Baked cod was a large portion. Angus steak was cooked just as asked. Crab cakes were large and served with a delicious sauce. The burger and chicken sandwich were huge. One of us got the scallop special and said it was one of the best meals he's had. It was an enjoyable experience and we will definitely return. read more

After wrapping up at Mayflower, Bayview or Chapin Beach- Chapin's restaurant is the go to post beach spot for beers. With an afternoon raw bar, a patio with plenty of seating and a decent sized bar, this place is the real deal. The wait staff is friendly, the food is reasonably priced and the sam summah is ice cold. My buddies and I split a few things. The fisherman's patter ( fried, everything: Scallops, Shrimp, Haddock, and fries) , a mixed grill (grilled steak, salmon, shrimp and yup more fries) and an order of chicken fingers. I effing love chicken fingers, I'm gonna run a train on these chicken fingers, Num num num. After a few rounds of beers in the hot sun, it was time to cool off even more. Margarita time bitches.... They make a heleva frozen margarita at Chapins. With a solid buzz and a full belly, it was time to go home, pass out for a couple of hours and do it all again. read more

Oh well. So, cue 11:30, we walk in and sit at the bar. Within ten minutes, the place was already filling up! I ordered the Kobe burger special, she had the portobello mushroom sandwich. The burger was cooked perfectly, and had a wonderful flavor and texture. The mushroom sammich was HUGE and flavorful. The bartender was a nice dude, and very friendly/chatty. He makes a good rusty nail; consequently I had too many. The outdoor seating area is huge, and they have an outdoor bar. This place is just super effing cool to come and relax on a Sunday at. I kinda love this place! It is seriously the most fun in the summer. The deck outside has a bar and a tv and it's perfect for coming off the beach for a margharita or 5. There is never a lack of social scene as this place packs with locals, tourists, and anyone who doesn't hate fun. It's a good time in the winter as well, the weekends have music and it's usually a younger crowd after 10pm. I love sitting at the bar next to an AARP member while the speakers bump Katie Perry or Usher. Cracks me up! So, as other have stated, the food is not gourmet by any means, but it is always pretty consistent. Seafood, steak, typical stuff...I like the salmon burger w/ wasabi sauce (don't pretend to gag! it's seriously awesome) or the portabella sangwich. I can't remember having a bad meal there. Oh, and the glasses of wine are ENORMOUS. Like a big goblet. I can drink...a lot. But after 2 glasses, I'm feeling like a lightweight teenager all over again. There's just one thing...the staff. They are always HAPPY! Wtf? I frequent this place often and every server or bartender that has ever waited on me has been soo friendly. I mean genuinely friendly. It was a dark and stormy night...ok just a rainy yucky weekend before Memorial day weekend. Barely anyone was down the Cape this weekend and we barely passed any other motorists on my 15 minute drive from Dennisport to Chapin's. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled into the parking lot and saw that there were other human beings on the Cape that weekend. It was fairly crowded, in fact. Anyway, the place was big, service was good. I'm guessing that if it was that crowded during bad weather before Memorial day, it must get pretty packed during the summer so plan ahead. I got the twin stuffed fillet of sole (an old favorite of mine). It was very good and I had to take some of it home because there was so much. My friend got the Cobb salad that had chicken, lobster and shrimp. My other friend had a burger that looked absolutely perfect - I was drooling. I'll have to get that next time. It was a pleasant experience. The food is good. From what I hear, this is part of the Clancy's chain so the menu was very similar. For a Cape restaurant I'd give it 4 stars but to compare it to a place off the Cape I have to stick to 3 stars. I have yet to find a GREAT place down there. read more

Disappointing. Four dinners for takeout, you'd think they were from 4 different restaurants. Inconsistent portions, missing sides and sauces and utensils. Fish tacos ($18) were pathetic small pieces of fish, loaded with hot sauce. Shrimp tacos weren't any better. Just really basic, small portions with little substance for a premium price. Taco Bell does a better job. 2 fish & chip platters were overcooked. One had a massive amount of slaw, the other had none. Fries were the best part, and honestly, they were mediocre. $100 for mediocre fries, no ketchup included. Pass. Won't eat there again. read more
