Went here late Friday evening with a party of 4. Service was slow. More than 30 minutes after ordering apps and entrees we were told that one of the ordered entrees was not available. Food was poor. Steamers were tasteless and sandy. Sweet potato fries were crumbles and cold. Replacement order was consisted of full sized fries. First order looked like leftovers. Mixed grill (both orders) consisted of two dried out shrimp, medium steak tips instead of the ordered medium rare, and the most dried out salmon imaginable. One order came with rice instead of the ordered vegetables. Will never go again. Recommend the same. read more

It was a dark and stormy night...ok just a rainy yucky weekend before Memorial day weekend. Barely anyone was down the Cape this weekend and we barely passed any other motorists on my 15 minute drive from Dennisport to Chapin's. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I pulled into the parking lot and saw that there were other human beings on the Cape that weekend. It was fairly crowded, in fact. Anyway, the place was big, service was good. I'm guessing that if it was that crowded during bad weather before Memorial day, it must get pretty packed during the summer so plan ahead. I got the twin stuffed fillet of sole (an old favorite of mine). It was very good and I had to take some of it home because there was so much. My friend got the Cobb salad that had chicken, lobster and shrimp. My other friend had a burger that looked absolutely perfect - I was drooling. I'll have to get that next time. It was a pleasant experience. The food is good. From what I hear, this is part of the Clancy's chain so the menu was very similar. For a Cape restaurant I'd give it 4 stars but to compare it to a place off the Cape I have to stick to 3 stars. I have yet to find a GREAT place down there. read more

I am sad to say it's time to adjust my initial feelings. Been going to Chapin's for 9 years. It may be off the list now forever. Stopped at the bar before dinner. The wine is overpriced. I mean really $15 for a glass of Joseph Carr Cabernet? I also tried the Gosling Dark and Stormy. Someone needs to train the bartenders on how to make these so they have that special layering because the current people don't know the secret. Sat for dinner. Started with the Stuffed Quahogs. OK, but not enough linquica or quahog. Plenty of breading though if that is what you want to pay for. Ordered the "special" ribeye ($24.95) medium rare. It arrived median well (read: grey). Even the baked potato tonight was not up to their old ways. I can only assume the old cook/owner is no longer in the kitchen and all they care about is getting food out. The noise level has become deafening, even the staff yells loudly at each other as i listened to a conversation between a server and a buster that was over 3 table away! On a bright note our server Lauren was very good! We'll be staying away in the future. there are plenty of better alternatives in the area with consistent drink and food. Chapin's makes for a great family night out down the Cape. Close to the beach means it's very convenient for an after-beach dinner and the menu is great. Like everywhere else on the Cape they offer a great selection of seafood but also a great variety of steaks, salads, and chicken dishes. The service is always great and they do have valet parking as well (which is sometimes necessary because the lot is always so full!) I would be prepared to wait for a table, this place is always packed but well worth the wait. read more

Really great restaurant to visit after watching the sunset at Mayflower beach. We were seated promptly outside in a quiet corner and greeted by our sweet server. Drinks were tasty and strong, food was good, service was excellent. My only complaint is that we were seated in the path of some sort of back shortcut or break area and employees were walking back and forth behind us causing us to have to move for them every few minutes. Additionally, I think every restaurant should offer big spray at their outdoor seating locations for those of us who forgot to grab it out of the car. read more

I can't vouche for anything else because these were the first two things I tried and I've been HOOKED ever since. Oh the Cobb Salad is NUTS!!! I went here Friday night with my family - the service was great, the food was good, yet totally on the unhealthy side, and the portions are huge, which also adds a bit to the unhealthy factor. However, each order request is honored, so the chef will make it however you like it. I ordered a scallop bowl, that I assumed would come in a breaded casserole dish smothered in butter. I asked the waitress if the scallops could be steamed or broiled with no breadcrumbs or butter. "Sure!" was the answer. So you can't complain about that. The rest of my family had a variety of fish and chips, and all of their dishes looked delicious. Chapin's has a full bar, large party seating, and valet parking, which are also nice amenities. On busy nights you might have to wait about 20 minutes, but it's not a big deal. The bar is readily available, and the space holds a large number of people. My brother said Chapin's features live music on some nights, but we didn't stay for the show. Another plus - Chapin Beach is right down the road. Though a bit rocky for swimming during high tide, the beach is absolutely gorgeous at dusk, right before sunset. I suggest eating, and then taking a walk down to see the view. read more

We went here with a friend who wanted seafood for his birthday. First off, it took 10 minutes to get seated. Finally our waitress came. After making us wait another 10 minutes, she didn't bring waters or anything. We ordered beers and finally we had something in front of us. We got the lobster quesadilla and stuffed clams as appetizers. The quesadilla was good, clams were average at best. We finally put in our dinner order, and I ordered another beer, as it had taken so long to get to this point I had finished my first. To get this second beer literally took another 15 minutes. The waitress came through to other tables and took their orders, whatever. The problem was we went on a Tuesday night in the off season. I have no idea why she was so slow. My dinner was good. I had the fishermans platter, which is a good variety of fried seafood. My overall experience was poor here. While the food was good, I also paid around $50 per person before tip. At these prices, I shouldn't be ignored by the waitstaff, especially when the waitress knows we're at the restaurant for a special birthday dinner. read more

Come to Chapin's if you need a replacement for restaurants that have closed for the season, or if you want a restaurant with a patio near the beach! At Chapin's we had the fried oysters (just ok) and fried clams (tasted very fresh!). We also had the clam chowder. The chowder was very thick and I did have some trouble finding clams (didn't see any). I definitely had better chowder. I love the patio outside. It's a great venue to have a drink outdoors and devour fried clams. Afterwards, head on over to Mayflower beach for amazing sunsets! read more

There is now a second location - a little more casual. Try the shrimp scampi. The lobster salad roll ($16.99) is only $12.99 on Mondays or Tuesdays. Solid, tasty "CapeCod" food. Cheaper than Clancy's and nearly the same menu. I prefer Chapin's to Clancy's but like Marshside the absolute best. (And for a cheap lobster rol - you can't beat Captain Frosty's). Meanwhile - we ate here once this summer and also got take out. Both were great. The fried scallop plate was delish! read more

Amazing! The service was attentive and never had to wait for a drink refill. The staff was so polite and very helpful when not knowing what to order. They knew the menu and has great suggestions weather it was a type of wine to drink or sushi to order. The manager Michael checked on us several times to make sure everything was good. Just had dinner there. I had french onion soup to start. It was like eating Gravy Master with onions in. All it was was like eating salt. Terrible!! Then I proceeded to get the turkey dinner, I should have known better, salt salt salt and immature move. I can't believe the executive chef let it leave the kitchen. I just got home and I feel drugged from all the salt. My friends had cheeseburgers and love them. So my dinner not so good. And their dinner was okay you going to have to judge for yourself. The hot lobster roll was mainly claw meat which was great! The margarita was STRONG (not complaining but some may not like it). My boyfriend liked his burger as well. This was our first visit to Chapin. I had read the reviews and agree the wine is a little pricey. It was a good pour in a pretty glass. The seafood part of the dinner was nice and fresh. There were three rolls. Dinner does not come with salad or vegetables. We both ordered a daily special. My husband had swordfish tips on rice and liked them very much. He did miss a veg. I had shrimp and mussels over linguini. And that is what I got. There were three duds in the muscles. I found it very under seasoned. Here was not much garlic and the cheese was sprinkled after the muscles were put on top so it all stuck to the hot shells. No parsley, salt or pepper The room is big and comfortable. The bar was nice looking. There is plenty of parking. I wish I could like it better. read more

Everyone says that this place is one of the best in Cape Cod. I have been here twice and I just don't see it. It's not bad; it's just not great. The oysters are really good and the boneless buffalo chicken tenders were pretty good. The stuffed fish with lobster sauce was ok but not great. The service was adequate although the server tended to disappear for lengths of time during the meal. I can't say I won't go back here. I just don't think this place is as great as everyone says it is. read more

So the wife and I were looking for a new spot to hang out and have some drinks. Well we knew about Chapins on the south side, but never tried this one. What a great surprise! While the dining room was dark and uninspiring we walked out back on the deck and WOW, what a perfect spot! We grabbed 2 seats at the bar, were greeted quickly and felt like we were regulars! Before long the bartender had everybody chatting. Very cool! Fish tacos were good, but not the best (7/10) but the drinks were great! We'll be heading back soon to try more of the menu. Unfortunately, we didn't have a good experience. We came in for lunch at 1:30 -- after the lunch rush. The "battered chick BLT" sandwich came and was barely warm, over fried and dry, and obviously not made to order. The French fries were also barely warm. Because it was obvious the sandwich should never have been served to a customer, we asked for a replacement. After 10 minutes, the second sandwich came and was just as poorly prepared as the first -- over cooked and barely warm. The grilled Mahi-mahi was a Monday special. It also was barely warm and the sweet potato fries as were the sweet potato fries. We did not ask for a replacement. When finished, we told the server the chicken was really not edible and we were not happy. It should have been obvious because there was only one bite. The appropriate thing would be for the sandwich to be removed from the check. It was not. So, we paid and tipped 15%. Chaplin's could have avoided this poor review if they had apologized and take the sandwich off the bill. We will never return or recommend the restaurant. read more

Chapins has a wonderful menu with lots of variety and a good selection for kids. Seafood, pasta, Mexican, salads and sandwiches - they have it all. Restaurant is clean and spacious. Restrooms are also very clean. Food and service are ok. I had the hot lobster roll and it was good. Not great. Its did come with a very generous helping of French fries (which were delicious) and Cole slaw (also delicious) and a pickle. My daughter had the children's steak tips and she loved them. My son had a cheese pizza and he enjoyed that as well. Two other guests had the steak tips which were good and the baked cod which was ok. We would go back because it is an easy place to go with something for everyone. They also have a gluten free menu which is really nice! read more

My family & I ate here 2 nights ago and we weren't entirely comfortable. The COVID-19 policies seemed to be somewhat loosely followed--our waitress had her mask on some of the time, pulled off at other points (including when coming and interacting with us). By far one of our favorite places on the Cape BUT not after today. We arrived at 4pm (2 adults and 3 children), we asked to be seated outside and we were sent outside to see the hostess. We waited a few minutes while waitresses stood within 2 feet of us standing around. The hostess finally appeared with her phone to her ear whizzed past us and told one of the waitresses she had to take a call and she needed to seat us. The waitress tried to be helpful but there were no seats for 5 and at that point frustrated we went back inside. We approached the hostess station inside and had 2 girls stare at us as we asked for a seat inside...deep sigh later we were seated. Our waitress was very nice and friendly. We placed our order and all was looking up. Food was good...not stellar as it has been in the past. Now...my 2 -12 yrs old daughters went to the ladies room and one of them came back smelling like alcohol. While in the ladies room 2 drunk "ladies" were sharing a stall while dropping the f bomb and then proceeded to drop a whole plastic cup of alcohol onto the floor that went under the stall and all over my daughters legs and sandals. I proceeded to use the ladies room and I also was able to witness these 2 ladies drunk and slurring their words. I saw a women trying to exit one of the stalls and almost slip on the floor from the drink as she was very vocal about how disgusting it was. I notified the waitress and she was very kind and told me she reported it to her manager. Not sure what happend but those 2 girls continued to the bar to enjoy some more beverages. Upon leaving we were waiting for the valet and was standing outside with another gentleman who seemed to be a regular. Imagine my shock when this gentleman was awaiting his car and he was pretty drunk himself. I sadly texted my few friends who are also fans of chapins and told them not to bother it's not the chapins we remember and certainly not a place for families. My concerns are in 45 mins I witnessed 3 people who were over served and could create quite the liability for chapins. I am just so sad to see what use to be great be such a huge disappointment. read more

This restaurant looks great but is disappointing. Upon arrival on a Saturday night in July, we were told that there would be a 1.5 hour wait. But we could look out on the deck where there is a separate hostess. Luckily we were able to be quickly seated outside. It was cold and gray but we were happy for the speedy seating and we were near an outdoor heating device. The waitress was nice but the food was a FAIL. I ordered the lobster pot pie which is the "house specialty". It was $28. When it came, it was in a small pre-made pie shell. In a tinfoil disposable pie tin. It did have a lot of lobster in it, but the fact that the crust was not homemade PLUS it had the cheapee disposable pie tin/store bought/ frozen type of crust, was very disappointing but also surprising since it was expensive and the place SEEMED like it would be better that that. Also the Cole slaw was too sweet and two slimy. Our drinks were served in plastic cups...I guess because we were outside..? We would not go back. Mostly it was a typical vacation place. A nice place to get drunk and the food is expensive and not that good. read more

It was fairly busy when our first server Jess (fully masked)came to take our drink order we bother ordered margaritas they were perfect. On to the starters clam chowder for the lady quahog for myself. Chowder was thick and delicious quahog was crispy and perfect. We needed refills and our second bartender Kristen came promptly and made us two more just as wonderful cocktails. On to dinner the lady had the boneless buffalo which were spicy with a little sweet and succulent. My steak tips were cooked to perfection and the thicccc cut steak fries were the best I've ever had. The food at this place is amazing but it can't be beat by the service, I can not stress enough how accommodating and attentive Jess and Kristen were I'm sure the rest of the staff is amazing as well but if you do request the two of them you will not be sorry read more

First of all, while we were perusing the menu at our dining table, a couple of loud, obnoxious, drunken men wandered out of the adjacent bar while one started shouting f bombs at the other. This was in a dining room filled with families and blue hairs! Although the diners were all staring open mouthed at the drunks, none of the staff seemed to bat an eye as the two proceeded to stumble back and forth from the parking lot to the men's room to the bar throughout our dinner! They obviously continued to be served!! This should have been warning enough to send us for the car, but no... we proceeded to order our food anyway! I ordered the 1 1/4 pound boiled lobster dinner and my spouse ordered the mac and cheese and together we ordered steamers as an opener. The steamers arrived, and smelled fresh but somehow had no taste!! Even the drawn butter had absolutely NO TASTE! How is this possible??! Then our dinners arrived. My quite chilly lobster looked like it had patiently awaited my arrival for hours in the kitchen. Its severed claws were blackened, soggy, and unappetizing at the joints, and its tail was dried out while the once- appetizing flesh within had shrunk and pulled away from the shell long before it arrived on my plate! It was served with fries, though I ordered a baked potato, and after the runner returned again with my baked potato, I then had to ask for the butter and sour cream I had asked for when I ordered the potato. I THEN had to send back to the kitchen a third time for my drawn butter that should have come with the lobster! And then,once again, I found my food to be tasteless!!! Totally tasteless... even the butter, which did not taste or resemble any melter butter I've ever encountered. My spouse's mac and cheese consisted of ziti and was tasteless, hard, and dry. It was my first visit to Chapin's, and most likely my last, which is too bad as we live just a few miles away. There's just way too many dining choices to revisit this lackluster, way-overpriced, quite honestly boring restaurant. Sorry. read more

I have been coming to Chapin's for nearly 15 years. The absolute worse meal I have on the Cape . I visited on Friday of Memorial Day weekend. The lobster roll was skimpy nearly all bread roll and the fries cold and soggy as if they sat around in grease for an hour. My Jack and Coke was watered down with melted ice. Beware new owner's and not the same old Chapin's. Not good. read more

Chapins...I've been coming for years and the food and service are never consistent. If you go at night or happy hour/weekends, the food is hot and good. Go for lunch during the week, and forget it. The staff are in another world, and the kitchen staff join them there. We went for lunch and the fried clams were cold, we had to send back our cob salads 2 times after we explained we wanted them "chopped and tossed". Overall, lunch took 1 and 1/2 hours by the time she ran our bill. The patio is great though, the bar fun... I do love going to Chapins after the beach and getting the raw bar. And again - the food can be good, just depends on when you go. Another plus - they have valet for busy parking and a great litlte ice cream shop attached! read more
