Been debating for a while if I wanted to try the Anchor Ale. I finally gave in. The inside is very much a dive-bar vibe with some tables in the "restaurant" area. Very loud with local regulars yelling at and to each other across the bar area. Also, the music was pretty loud. The server/bartender/hostess was very pleasant and efficient. Menu has a decent selection. Prices seemed reasonable for the area. Ordered steak tips with fries and a side salad with pecan pie for dessert. Presentation was what you would expect since I ordered takeout. The tips were actually quite good and cooked exactly how I asked for them. The fries were krinkle cut and looked baked not fried but they were actually nice & crisp and not greasy. The salad was pretty basic but it had a good Italian dressing on the side. And the pie was store-bought but it was very tasty so no real complaint there. Basically, if you're getting takeout or enjoy loud annoying people around a bar...give this place a try. read more

Not to be confused with the famous Anchor Brewing of San Francisco. While the SF establishment dates back to the 1890s, Cape Cod's Anchor Ale House dates back to 2007, tho the interior looks much more dated. There was a dust-covered jukebox, and the pictures looked like something from a thrift shop. Its logo has a whimsical dancing cow&fish, calling itself Falmouth's Hidden Treasure. Since it's New England, they have clam cakes rather than the typical Mid-Atlantic crab cakes. It's 3 for $8.99, accompanied by lemon and tartar sauce. They're OK and somewhat doughy and bland. They also offer non-alcoholic beer, Ceria out of Colorado that's pretty close to the real thing. The service is friendly, quick, and they have a sociable atmosphere. First time stepping in here in a few years. Saw them on Sweet Deals and picked up a voucher. Few locals hanging at the bar, few tables having dinner were in there on a early evening mid week in the summer. Bartender was new and had no experience, learning as she went along, owner was the cook in the back who came out to assist a few times and a Russian server were the staff. Signs posted saying best food and seafood on Cape Cod(usually to overcompensate for something when you see signs like that from the business itself), a website that doesn't come close to resembling the establishment it self. But it's a local dive, it has keno and karaoke three nights a week. Karaoke seems to be what brings the crowd in. Broken jukebox and not the most comfortable bar stools. Pretty good beer selection, granted they were out of a good few which was advertised. Menu is small but offers a decent selection for pub food and seafood. Chicken wings were brutal, frozen breaded, but they do make a good burger. I was impressed with that. I see the image and type of establishment it wants to be, but it's not quiet there. Owner seems like a great guy though and it's a nice little spot to relax in. They also could use some bigger tvs, sitting at the bar you have to squint to watch one of the tvs from a distance. Just re-read the address to make sure I went to the place so many people raved about. I've beenYelping for quite some time and rarely does Yelp fail me. I guess I was due. If we were not pressed for time I would have left 2 minutes into this experience. The interior of this place was just depressing and the carpet smelled bad. We ordered two burgers and checked in on Yelp in order to get a free basket of onion rings and thank goodness we did. They were the best part of the meal! The place rarely has a car in the parking lot. I drove by here many times a day since the day they opened years ago. I finally got up the nerve to check this place out since there is no way this "restaurant" can be making money. I was afraid to try the food since as expected, lunch time and no one there except us.waitress was friendly. Seats were sticky. Best fried clams ( from Ipswich, Mass ) in the area. One of my favorite places to go! Last ate there on Friday night, August 21, 2015. We got the prime rib, and the salmon. When you walk or drive past it, it doesn't look like much. It isn't appealing in any sort of way, and there are next to no cars in the parking lot. I was on a rode trip and was dying of hunger, so I decided to stop in. You can most likely hear crickets all around the restaurant, and when I sat down it was very dirty and the tables were sticky. As for the food, it was eh. The whole menu looked photoshopped, because what I ordered looked NOTHING like the picture. She looked and said "Are you kidding?" And laughed in our faces and told us to PULL SOME TABLES TOGETHER. Our grandmother wanted something light on her stomach and asked for mashed potatoes and she then AGAIN looked at us and laughed in our faces. Long time resident of Falmouth and expert in the food service industry tells me that the Anchor and Ale has the best seafood in Falmouth. Looking at the restaurant from the outside, I thought that I must've misunderstood. It is kind of dumpy looking and I checked to make sure that I had the right place. Unbelievable, the food is amazing and the service is warm and friendly. Clearly, the owners care nothing about decor. In the 25 years that I've had a home in Falmouth, I have eaten in some really good restaurants that had far better furnishings and looked much more impressive. I do not remember having had a better meal or better service in Falmouth or anywhere else. The mixed seafood and sweet potato fries were simply excellent. The restaurant is a little run down. We ordered calamari. It was not fresh it was frozen. Not that great. We ordered a Caesar salad-large, a fish platter and two kids meals and the beers. Caesar was dry and way too expensive. Fish platter was good... Hot crispy, and good tasting. Kid meals were $7.00. So overall it was OK and I think overpriced. Our waitress was very friendly! I hate to leave a bad review because it's someone's business but I don't feel write letting others attempt to dine there. I wish I had something good to say but it's a struggle... The people/staff were nice...ends there. My family and I ended at the Anchor Ale House in Falmouth on a Tuesday night, we were starving! We walked in and it was dark and dingy so we asked to sit outside (we were told to sit ourselves anywhere). We went outside and sat in the only seats that weren't old and ripped (rough looking rock area on the side of the building). 1.) fly in my daughters first drink (it happens, no biggie) 2.) Food took a long time, told the owner was the only chef and he makes everything from scratch (not the case!) 3.) Food finally came and the only decent food was the fried stuff. Mashed potatoes were dry and flavorless, chicken was reheated and still only warm, Broccoli was cold and nearly raw, when we asked that it get cooked some more it was like they dipped it in warm water and brought it back. Sweet potato fries were blah. The Cesar salad was large but more like something you would get at McDonalds. Then the bill came and it was wrong by $12. That got fixed but it spending $95 plus tip on a meal that I would have gladly thrown out was hard to swallow! Avoid this place read more

After being seated - which didn't require a wait - I had a quick lookover of the menu and hoped I was missing something. So I settled for the steak tips. They were alright, and I've had better. And Falmouth and the surrounding area has better restaurants with bigger menus. It seems like it could be a popular local restaurant with regulars crashing there. It was seat yourself which wasn't a big deal, but after seating around for 10 minutes and no one came by to serve us I realized that you had to order at the bar because there wasn't any waitstaff. We left a cell phone there and we were about to leave the area and we tried to call regarding the phone... and they were closed during stated business hours. Not just closed but nobody was there. Our dining experience started with the woman behind the bar yelling at us immediately upon entry, come to find out her name is Pat. Pat continued this lovely experience with constantly acting like we were burdening her and talking down to us. The burger was dry and the bun hard, drinks overpriced and the restaurant was dirty with sticky tables and glassware, smelly bathroom and unswept floors. I was also informed that Pat is not only a mean and incompetent server but she pockets Keno money without telling patrons and has also been caught double tipping herself with patrons cards. My girlfriend and I went in on a Sunday night around 7:30 and found an empty parking lot. When we went in we found only one other person, but we were fine with that, the owner and his employee were real attentive. I got the buffalo and blue burger, she got the buffalo chicken sandwich, both with coleslaw. Everything we had was real good! Beer was extremely well priced and it seemed like he really knew how to run a great place (right mixing equipment, clean taps, caps on the alcohol pourers). Can't speak for the kitchen... We weren't happy the first time, and we wanted to try them again, we went there tonight I ordered a burger and asked for medium and my guest asked for a steak rare. My burger was rare and my guest steak was medium. We commented to the waitress that our food was not cooked correctly and she went to the manager and they removed one of the drinks. We paid and left. I have been eating out in Falmouth for about 15 years and only recently discovered Anchor Ale House. There are no frills and the place certainly doesn't catch your eye from the outside like some of the more quintessential Cape/Falmouth restaurants. That being said, what this place lacks in aesthetics it makes up for with consistently prepared delicious food, a great craft beer menu and top notch service. The fried seafood is probably the best in town. They also have a lot of options for bigger groups too: sandwiches (really good burgers and lobster rolls), salads, high quality steaks and grilled or broiled fish (the swordfish was delicious). They also have a bunch of apps - I have not had the onion rings or stuffed quahogs but others I have eaten with really enjoyed them. They also make homemade chips and salsa which is tasty. I am pleasantly surprised with this place and happy to have tried it after driving by and going in on a whim. After a few more meals there with family and friends I think we found a hidden gem in Falmouth. read more

I tried anchor ale house tonight and it was delicious. You get a lot of food for your buck. I got the fried haddock with a salad and vegetables and it was delicious. Lobster $ 11.95. The roadside sandwichboard sign drew us in. The service was good, the boiled lobster was just fine (what can go wrong there?), but what's with the paper plates and plastic utensils? They're surely wasteful- all that disposable stuff. And this place is a sit-down, order- from- the - menu restaurant. There may well be takeout service but it doesn't appear to be a significant portion of the trade- no takeout window, no waiting customers. I found this practice of offering plastic utensils offensive! And did you ever try to attack the briney beast with plastic? A sturdy metal pick is an essential tool of this task. This was my first visit to this resturant and it was really good. My wife and I were promply greeted and seated. The waot staff was friendly. We ordered the home made chips and salsa, they were very good. We both ordered the fried clams they were copkedmto perfection and were very sweet.
