If you want a hole-in-the-wall bar with great karaoke then this is the place for you! If you want a place where you don't mind broken beer bottles in the bathroom and leaving smelly then this is also the place for you! Chaplins is not a local dive, it is a dump. Was lured in with a coupon for "but one entre get one entre free". The entrees start at $13, however, the coupon is only good up to $8. Now I didn't go to math school but $13 - $8 = Not Free! Our beer was served in glasses with lipstick still on them. I ordered the coleslaw as my side. Was given pasta salad and the server actually argued that I did indeed select pasta salad. After that he was just rude to our table. Unless you can't find any other place in town to smoke while you are eating, would just skip ole Chaps. read more

This is a dive bar...a perfect, smokey, loud dive bar. They have awesome karaoke on Friday nights (the only night I've been). The crowd is fun and energetic and usually pretty good. Although the not so good ones do make it more interesting. The best part about Chaplins is that they aren't pretentious about their karaoke. You can sing alone, with a partner or in a group. The small dance floor allows patrons to support the talent and shake it in between acts. Drinks are strong and the waitstaff does their best in the crowded bar. Oh...and if you're lucky you can see the more colorful locals dressed to the nines in skin tight leopard "dresses" that are usually found in the bedroom, not the bar. At least not a karaoke bar. This place is the epitome of dive bars. It is old (over 20 years or so), pieced together, and needs a full makeover. It is smoking on the inside, non on the outside covered patio. It has "that" smell if you know what I mean. It's broken in, laid back, and should be looked upon as just a dive bar. With that being said, don't expect a flashy, colorful, gorgeous establishment with an upscale menu and staff that would wear provocative outfits......this place is REAL! It has history, it has personality, and it has decent bar food. Understand that I frequent this place a couple times a month. It is my place to grab a drink, play crack machine, and even catch a ball game. I like the bartenders, I appreciate the candid setup, and I am impressed with the large number of regulars that call this their home. I hate Karaoke, I don't sing, and I don't like to listen to it. I avoid the three nights they have it. I've seen the ads that it is "allegedly" the best OTP, I could neither confirm nor deny this, it seems to be 50/50 from other reviewers. The food: I have had the wings, Buffalo style Hot, they were ok. I have had their Bacon Dijon Burger, it was tasty. I have had the potato skins, those were ok. Their chicken tenders are Uh-mazing! Perfectly breaded and a good portion. Having seen the whole menu, I stick to these items, because I choose to. Their drinks are good and cold, price is average for the area. They have specials like everyone else, so can't knock them too hard. I have never had table service their because I sit at the bar, but the staff always seem to be moving. I have seen it when it is slow and busy, I just don't see servers on their butts. Take what you want from this. If you choose to go, go in with a level head and respectful expectations. Due to this I have sat outside the 2-3 times I've been there. here's the problem with that. you get forgotten, and it isn't like you can flag someone down. You can't, you're on your own. I've actually walked back inside before to ask for something, etc... The food is below average bar food. Nothing that I'm going to be willing to wait for, or deal with forgotten over. This is a true throw-back dive bar made famous for some of the best Karaoke in Atlanta over the past 20 years! It's a dive... it IS a dive. But it's an awesome one. Smoking allowed, intimate, outdoor patio too. I've come here for well over 15 years for my karaoke fix and it doesnt disappoint. Food is traditional dive bar, but I'm partial to the chicken fingers and fries. Beer and alcohol is cheap and the patrons regular and lively. Situated just a block South of Historic Roswell Square on Hwy 9, you get to experience what Roswell was like back in the 80s and 90s before all the urban crawl brought fine dining and a distaste for old divey bars. Personally, I love it's character. If you are prepared for it going in, you'll have more fun. The people are all nice, and some of the singers could be professionals. Went there tonight (NYE) for the first time. We were a little thrown by the Eat Greek sign out front by the street... This is a bar and serves bar food. There is a smoking section indoor and a heated patio for non smokers. The non smoking patio definitely still smells like smoke from next door. Didn't bother me but as a note for others. Service was great and he could not have been more friendly. Food was over priced for what it is... It's okay, but... My boyfriend said it best, "This is a place to come drink and then eat once you're a little tipsy and hungry." Unfortunately we did the opposite lol... I will come back some day when I've had a bad day and need to tie one on. They definitely make you feel like a regular. read more

Used to go there all the time when I lived just outside of Roswell. Service can be a little slow at times, especially on a busy night, but the staff is really nice, especially when you get to know them, and they have some awesome burgers and chicken fingers. My one complaint would be the main guy who runs karaoke there has a tendency to play a dance song after a every time a person finishes singing, which, on a busy night, can get very annoying if you're trying to wait for your turn. read more

It's definitely a dive... We stopped here on Friday night after the Roswell Ghost Tour. Some friends of mine come here fairly often and knew a lot of the wait staff. While it would not be my first choice for drinks, I can see the appeal of this place as a neighborhood watering hole. The drinks arrived quickly, were decently strong, and service was pretty attentive. The food is mediocre at best (unless uber-greasy bar fare is your thing), so I'd advise grabbing a bite before you get here. Also, the karaoke crowd here is INTENSE. Karaoke isn't really my thing, but you'll at least get a laugh or two watching the drunken crowd try to belt out 80s songs. read more

I love dive bars, and for a karaoke fiend such as myself, this is the place to be. Bryan and Andy are excellent karaoke hosts, have a great selection of songs, and they make sure you sound like a pro. The singers do all genres (metal to country to pop) and sometimes there's theme nights if we're bored (like only sing 80s songs, etc). Singer-specific: If you are wanting to sing a lot of songs then Wednesdays/Sundays are the best nights. Fridays/Saturdays naturally get pretty busy, so you might only get a song or two in, but the crowd is always a lot of fun. The staff are super friendly and attentive, the food is delicious (thank you so much for having Atkins-friendly items!!), and the clientele is diverse and friendly. If you are sensitive to smoke then it could be a little bothersome, but they do have a nice outdoor patio to eat/hang out in. read more

When high school friends return to the 'burbs for the holidays and force me to make a pilgrimage up to my old stomping grounds to meet them, Chaplins is a good choice for a place to meet for a drink. As Roswell bars go, it's fine. My unrecontsructed friends like it because they can smoke inside, my cheapskate friends like it because they have 16oz well cocktails for $5 (though they are about as strong as you would expect a $5 cocktail to be), and my diva friends like it because they have karaoke three nights a week. If you want to sing, slip the karaoke MC a couple of bucks to be bumped up the list. The food our group ordered never came, but our server had no problem keeping separate checks for a seated party of eight and did not tack on an automatic gratuity charge, so points for that. The inside is dated, small, and cramped, and looks like the Cheers bar would look if the show was set in Roswell, Georgia, but the screened in patio is heated and you can still hear the karaoke out there. I was surprised this past Saturday to see the place packed out with a crowd that was mostly under 30 -guess my group is not the only one that uses this place as a refuge when visiting the 'rents. read more

I came here last night for the second time for an impromptu girl's night out. We got there around 9:30ish and the place wasn't yet packed for karaoke. Dimly lit and full of cigarette smoke, we weaved through the place and a found a table. We originally want a booth, but that would leave a few of us unable to see the karaoke singers. The place is cozy, but it has too many tables to accommodate everything, meaning...there is supposed to be a space to walk between the back of my chair and the bar, but there isn't. The people sitting at the bar were resting their legs on the back of my chair, that's how close we were. It was night full of constant kicking and bumping. Our server was really sweet, but slow. I think only three servers were there last night - doing everything. We ordered some food to share, chicken fingers and some nachos. The food is your typical dive bar food, nothing amazing, but it'll do. Chicken fingers were crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and standard fries. My nachos were pretty good. For $7.95, it was a huge portion. Split between the four of us, we couldn't eat it all. They also had specials on beers and $2 shots last night. Beer and food here are already pretty cheap, but they still have specials - which is awesome. And the karaoke, oh the karaoke. Last time I came here there was a definite party vibe, everyone was in a good mood, people were laughing, dancing and having a good time. Last time I didn't want to leave because I was having such a great time. Last night...it wasn't like that. I could tell that a bunch of people were regulars because they all knew each other, but there wasn't laughing or dancing (aside from that one chic that was beyond three sheets to the wind and dancing erotically to Raspberry Beret). It was an almost somber night. The songs were all depressing, people would howl along with the songs like they were getting painful nostalgia. I couldn't wait to leave. I'll still come here for the cheap food and if I want to get drunk on a dime (like the previously mentioned girl). Maybe next time I'll bring a group of people and we'll turn it into a party! read more

Love Chaplains. It's a great authentic dive bar steeped in the whiskey, jager and cigarette stained voices of a thousand wanna-be singers. Most of the singers are very good although I must admit sometimes it gets tiresome hearing old white men doing maudlin country-western songs. Most of the time it's everything from rock, to rap to Sinatra to pop. The food is your standard deep-fried dive bar food. Nothing special but filling and tasty. Suggest calling for reservations on Fri and Sat as by 10 it starts to fill up quickly. Recommend having the blond goddess Susanne as your waitress. I've nicknamed her Flash by how fast she moves. Efficient and honest with witty banter, she always treats our tables as VIPs. The new DJ Bryan is doing a great job. He'll autotune the terrible singers, and sing back up vocals. I go to several different restaurants in Roswell but Chaplins is one of the better places overall and I typically go once a week here on average. It offers different settings to meet most people's needs. Karaoke on Wednesday night and weekends (which are always packed) and different settings if you just want a bite to eat. Food - The menu offers different options in terms of food. It has everything from wings and typical bar food to entrees including steaks and ribs. Even a section for people on the Atkins diet which offers full meals for low calories. Pricing overall is fair and nothing too pricey. Atmosphere - Offers different options here. If I bring a date then sitting out on the patio (either covered or uncovered) is the route I take. I am a non smoker and sometimes the inside is a little smoky but they have a system that they turn on if it gets too bad that makes it better. Anything outside is quieter and more restaurant oriented vs bar. Night - I go to karaoke once a month on the weekends when I do not feel like going downtown or Buckhead and honestly, Chaplin's has one of the better options in Roswell. They usually pack the place so I recommend getting there before or around 10 if you want a table or seat on the inside. Age group is typically around 20's-40's I would say with some good and not so good singers. Don't worry, the not so good singers are usually the more entertaining parts of the night :) Overall - Overall it is a place that I recommend to at least try out. Give it a chance and experience the different options here. If you are a restaurant type person, sit on the patio and have a bite to eat with a glass of wine. If you are a night owl and enjoy being social then check out either Tuesday poker or Wed/Fri/Sat Karaoke and you will have a better time here than other places in Roswell. read more

I hate to write such a negative review, but my dinner experience tonight was so dismal that I feel I must say something. I went in knowing that this is a dive bar with basic bar food, but I was still disappointed in my experience. I tried to be somewhat healthy and order a salad - it was the worst salad I've ever had. The chicken was not tasty and I ended up picking it off and dipping it in ketchup to make it palatable. The wine I ordered was barely drinkable and the glass it arrived in had grunge on the base of the glass. Like the grunge that you get from dishes that have been greasy and not washed in a while. The goblet portion of the glass seemed decently clean, but I was appalled at the discolored, grungy base. It was literally yellow and sticky. The smell of the place reminds me of my grandparent's home - very smoky and depressing. We opted to sit on the deck and the atmosphere was okay, not great. The tea I ordered tasted old and the service was incredibly slow, even though it was nearly empty on a Monday evening. The waitress was nice, but we could hardly understand her due to language difficulties (she had poor English speaking skills). She was rather inattentive and we quickly learned that if we were going to make it out of there, we should ask for our check when our food arrived. I don't think I will ever go back here. This was my second visit and I've had enough. It may be great for karaoke, but don't count on it for decent food or service. read more

Must be a great place for a drink because it sure is not for food. Burgers and Nachos took almost 30 minutes on a Sunday afternoon without almost no one else in the place. The burgers were half warm. The nachos were cold and soggy. No manager came by. The server have to be chased to get a refill on the drinks. When I did get my food there was a long black hair in the bottom of the basket. They will argue with you, never smile, and take forever to serve a beer. Don't even ask for a shot or mixed drink unless you want to get a smug look. As a long time patron of Chaplin's, I am appalled at the negative posts. Chaplin's offers a non-smoking, enclosed patio that is roomy and pleasant for the non-smoking patrons. Inside is smoking and seating is easily found without "weaving through" unless you are referring to how packed it is on karaoke night. Chaplin's has a great air filtering system and face it, YOU ARE IN A BAR that allows SMOKING! Karaoke nights are very popular and draw a huge crowd four nights a week, which should speak for itself! It's fun, the food is great, soups are homemade by the owner (I've never had food poisoning from there), and the staff is engaging, helpful and fun! This is a traditional pub in every sense and one that has lasted over 25 years and has done so for a reason! read more

I wish I could give it more stars because it was cheap and the karaoke vibe was great, nice DJ (although one rotation took two hours and it starts late) but it's been a long time like I felt I was pickled in cigarette smoke and there is honestly no way to escape it. I'm not sure what they're saying about a patio, when we went, it was cold and they weren't even seating people there so we were stuck in a smoky fishbowl and they asked us to share our table with folks we didn't know when they got crowded so I had someone smoking next to me. If you already smell like smoke, you'll love it. If you have any kind of breathing issue or allergy, avoid. It's a shame, could be great if they just asked people to step outside to smoke. read more

My wife loves to have fun with friends and we were looking for a karaoke spot for her birthday party. We were able to get reservations from Chaplins for our party of 20 and had the entire outside (heated) area. The service and food were outstanding! Ribs, burgers, wings, blackened grouper, all big hits! This was not just bar food. Whoa. Didn't expect that at all....maybe I should read reviews first. Working in Roswell, food options are limited for a 'quick' bite. Sure Canton Street offers tons of variety, but I don't have 30 minutes just to find parking, walk ten blocks, pick up my food, then rush back to work. Pizza and Chinese are done, so it was time for something new. Chaplin's had recently left us a menu, so why not? The menu is well written and the prices are fair, especially when everything else in Roswell requires a bank loan. I called and ordered a burger, "Roswell's best burger", and fries, waited five minutes, then drove up the street to the little rundown shopping center where Chaplin's is housed. There's two doors, one for the restaurant, one for the bar, my food was awaiting me at the bar so to the left door I went. I really didn't know this place was a dive bar, but I quickly learned after one step inside. Wow. Scuzzy is a good word, maybe even a little dirty, but charming as well in a way that makes you curious to survey more. The bartender greeted me quickly, then informed me my food wasn't ready, so I had a seat and scanned the beers available. I'm a craft beer whore, so this was a serious letdown. The only thing they had on shelf that we have at work was Woodchuck cider, and we loathe to carry that sugary mess. Saddened, I ordered a Bud Black Crown, I will one day need to report on my thoughts so why not do it now. It was awful. Anyway, the scene inside is like a snapshot from Doc's or Lassiter's, very grungy, tons of neon, old carpet, a stage and TVs all around, and a crew of day drinkers that rival the best movie stand-ins ever. Very '80s sports bar feel, with the smell of smoke, stale beer, and probably semen, though I don't know for sure on the last one. One of the patrons greeted me, and I almost felt that, if I played my cards right, I could take her into the bathroom for a love making session, because she was really that friendly (easy) and anxious to talk. Cool if you're 21 and single, not cool now. Food came out and I paid, then realized I needed ketchup and was shown the condiments nearby to use, grabbed some A1 too and headed out. One thing to note here, trying to exit where you originally come in is completely pointless, you'll never get a break in traffic unless it's 4am (it was 6pm on a Thursday). They do show you a route around that leads you to the next light farther North, which I took and managed to get back to work within 25 minutes, not bad. The burger, meh. If this is Roswell's best, I won't be dining much more in Roswell. Still, I'd like to go back on a busy night and experience the awesomeness of the place in full swing. read more

Conveniently located near the Marietta highway/ Atlanta street intersection chaplains seems to be a 30-40something hangout. I came on a Saturday night for karaoke and the restaurant filled. It appeared that only two servers were working the entire restaurant so we literally had to wave down the server and wait for extended periods of time to order refills. If there would have been an ample amount of staff to give guests good service I think this place would have given me a better experience. The food is what you would expect from a dive bar, mozzarella sticks did not disappoint. My friend had a burger and enjoyed it. The hummus has paprika strikes on top and was pretty good. DO NOT order mixed beverages here, I ordered a margarita and it was a big no no. I ordered a double shot of tequila thinking that it just needed some alcohol and it seemed to have made the beverage worse. Definitely go with beer for a spot like this. Overall the experience is cool, a full house singing on the top of their lungs, just wish the service was better. read more

They have it at least 2-3 nights a week, and depending on who the host is, is either a great time, or just so-so. There's one guy who wastes a lot of time singing himself, which annoys the crap out of me, but the others are usually pretty good. The food here was pretty forgettable. read more

This was such a disappointment. I took my bestie out for a very rare night of cocktails and some Karaoke. We ordered food, which was served to me with a knife rolled up in a dirty paper napkin. No fork. I probably could have forgiven that were it not for our drinks slammed on the tables, slow service, and the icing on the cake: arguing with me about the fact that the glass of seltzer I was served was the vodka tonic that I actually ordered. Chaplins is a great place to eat, drink and SING Karaoke. Traveling in Atlanta on business, I went to Chaplins for the first time last Wed night 6/29/16. The bartender (Michelle) made me feel as though I was a regular. She was professional, friendly and very attentive! I ordered Chicken Quesadilla and the food was fast, fresh and delicious. The karaoke DJ was very great. He made sure to rotate all singers so we all sang. the Karaoke Singers were GREAT!! I felt like I was on a final show of the VOICE! These singers were as friendly as the staff, making me feel very welcome and part of the local crowd.
