It's been a while since my husband and I have been up here, and with patio season and summer (almost officially) here, we thought this would be a great time to revisit! We ordered the deviled eggs appetizer, my husband ordered the crab cakes, and I ordered the lettuce wraps app as my main. The crab cakes were really good (I had a bite or two), and the buns were unexpected but delicious! The lettuce wraps were also very good, but honestly not what I thought a lettuce wrap would be. I've seen other pictures of them that were much more traditional finger food for brunch, so not sure if they changed them entirely or if this is just dinner version. Tasty, but obviously not for picking up... it would be tricky to wrap them up in that tiny piece of lettuce and I did not want to get dripped on with the sauce. So, if knife and fork lettuce wraps were a thing - this would be it! I think the bib lettuce makes it hard as it's so frail and flimsy, so if I had any suggestions, maybe it would be to try wrapping them from a head of lettuce for a bigger, more firm piece of lettuce. Dessert was a strawberry shortcake. Nice finish to a richly flavored dinner. My husband asked for an espresso and it came in a huge mug. Not sure if this is standard, or if they ran out of demitasse cups. Service was more attentive on front end, but less as they got busy and our server got more tables. I asked another server for water refill and then a manager brought us a dessert menu since our server disappeared. He showed up with the check and we had to tell him we wanted dessert. We made reservation through open table and got seated immediately. When we left, the little lobby area was packed so we definitely went at the right time. I think the servers were getting a little overwhelmed (and I cannot blame them). Still a great view and worth the hassle of finding parking in downtown Alpharetta. read more

My wife and I were in Alpharetta meeting a friend for dinner, but she first suggested that we bar hop a little bit, and Up On The Roof was our first stop. It was warm outside and warm = rooftop bar. It was the start of a great night. Let's get into it! Location and Parking They are located in downtown Alpharetta on South Main Street. The restaurant sits on the fifth floor of an office building. There is no parking directly by the building, however there is free street parking as well as a deck that is free and is a few minutes walk. If you can, I would recommend taking the walk so you're able to see all of the other shops and restaurants and enjoy the live music that's sure to be playing. Venue and Atmosphere When you walk in you're automatically greeted by the hostess. If you are going on a weekend I absolutely would recommend having a reservation, especially if you want to sit outside. We did not, so it was essentially every woman for themselves. In addition to the tables, there were some couches that were first come first served. We lucked up and a woman was leaving and gave us her table. Food and drinks Since this was our first stop we didn't want to fill up too much. We ordered the charcuterie board, which served as a good snack. I ordered their old fashioned made with Knob Creek, my wife had a cider, and our friend has one of their IPA's. Service Service was decent, considering there was a lot going on. With my friend's IPA they were changing the keg and it actually took a while for that to happen, but our server gave my friend another drink at no charge to make up for that fact, which was a nice touch. Verdict I'm not in Alpharetta much, but the next time I am, I'll definitely stop through for a drink and the view. If you're in the area stop on in! Until next time! read more

I'm obsessed with mezcal, so Ioved their Midnight Cowboy cocktail. The "Just Dubai It" was a really delicious combo of chocolate and pistachio cream. We got an incredible sunset view and, although it was packed, we still got a table for two right away. I've also hosted a private brunch here and they were very easy to work with. read more

My date purchased two tickets to the July 3 independence celebration. Having been to the restaurant before, I was excited that we got in. Unfortunately, as I entered the restaurant, I passed the hostess stand, which had a large metal wheel cover protruding from it. That wheel cover was an obstruction to the entry way, and I hit my foot on it while walking by. I was in severe pain. Within minutes, my foot was cut, bleeding. I limped to the table where my date was seated. After waiting a little while in hopes that the pain would subside, I had my date call and Uber to take us to urgent care. Because of the swelling and pain, my date had to carry me out of the restaurant. Ultimately, it was determined that I had a bone contusion. But you can do that without having to go inside to grab your drink. Everybody was cool and everybody was friendly. The food looked good, but I didn't try the food when I went. I only really tried the one, which was a good red wine. But the food looked good from what I was seeing from other people and the prices look pretty decent as well. I bet that at night time this will be a pretty nice place to be. So I would probably go back when is dark outside. Not that I won't go back in the daytime! We started off with the nachos as our appetizer and really enjoyed them. The portion was pretty big and can be enough for three people to share. For our main course, I had the "Woke this way" chicken salad, and my husband got the "feelin' crabulous" crab cakes with fries. We both gave our meals a 6 out of 10. It was decent, but we'd probably try something else if we came back. It was our first time here, and we were a bit disappointed that we couldn't sit on the side with the nicer view out front since it was reserved for a wedding. I know the reservation mentions that rooftop seating isn't guaranteed, but it would've been helpful to know ahead of time that area wouldn't be available that night. Perfect for groups and great views! We had a group of 16 and sat outside on the roof patio. The sunset views were beautiful and we had a great evening. The menu has a wide variety of offerings so there is something for everyone here. The service was friendly and accommodating. Our table shared the deviled eggs, calamari, and hummus for appetizers. I really hate to do this, I'm usually very tolerant but I've been in the service business for years and lousy service needs to be called out. My wife and I stopped in for drinks and some nosh. No reservations just walked in - around 7:30 on Sunday the 28th of June. We were told we could sit outside and we chose one of the couches and coffee style table setups that looked inviting and comfortable. Several tables around us had reserved signs on them but we had no reason to believe we had become invisible once we entered this space. Waiters, waitresses walked by us without so much as a smile, greeting, hello or a "be with you in just a moment". We sat for a growingly uncomfortable 15+ minutes - with a parade of wait staff coming and going before we wondered what we were doing wrong. We went back inside to the bartender and asked how does this work? "We sat ourselves as we were told we could but can't get anyone to service us". She said she would take our orders. We ordered fish and chips, a beer, and a cocktail. Wary of how things had gone so far, I asked how we would know when our food was ready. I'll bring it out she said. A full 20 minutes later, the food came, dropped off by one of the waiters ...who never came by again. The food was good - small fish portion for the price, but tasty. We ate, relaxed, and enjoyed the gentle evening breeze. After eating, we found once again that we were being ignored. Those at tables around us were being serviced; we were not. Our used plates, our empty drink glasses, dirty napkins, etc....sat in front of us for another 30 minutes after we finished eating and drinking even while wait staff came and went. Not one made any effort to provide any service of any kind. We finally got up again, went to the bar....again, and the bartender handed us our bill. We paid and left. So apparently the couches are for self-serve only. If so, someone should tell the hostess at the podium, just past the elevators, who greets you when you arrive, so she knows better in the future. Joking aside, what this was is a group of unconcerned and unprofessional wait staff who haven't a clue how to make a patron enjoy the experience so they maybe come back again, and you have a place where you are known for great service and food and here's the good part for you guys, you will have a job in the future as the Up on the Roof won't close due to poor service and good but not great food. Can't imagine why we would ever go back, too many better choices. read more

Beautiful rooftop views of the city of Alpharetta! We hosted a birthday celebration for brunch and had a wonderful time. Grateful for the staff accommodating us. The food was good, but nothing special when it comes to brunch. Really enjoyed the brussel sprouts and the brioche French toast. We came here for drinks on a weeknight primarily because it was open late. You enter the building on the side and take an elevator up. There was no line for the small elevator but could see where there could be a wait during peak times. The bar was a decent size and you could order from the inside or the outside to the same bar. You can also sit on both sides of the bar. We waited for some time as there was only 1 bartender. The drinks were reasonably priced and we sat outside on the patio. It was a perfect night weather wise and that was key since it was not covered. The view of downtown was great, but we wish we could have sat right on the railing since the tables were higher. read more

We celebrated our 38th anniversary here. The food was wonderful. We had the Humpity Dumpity deviled eggs and they were great also. I had the Go Hog Wild and it was delicious and plenty of it. My wife had the cod and we both walked away full. But we ordered the cinnamon cheese cake to go. It was great also. Our server Ethan deserves a raise. He went out of his way to help us. read more

What a treat! The food, service, view, everything...absolutely amazing. We were in a snack with a drink mode on a weekday evening and found this gem. An order of nachos and brussel sprouts seemed appropriate, however we were unprepared for the size of them and took almost 1/2 of each home. Both were phenomenally delicious, full of flavor, and if I had to guess on 10" & 12" plates respectively...hence easily 4 snackages when done. The drinks were unique and uber tasty - Night Moves was our fave, though Notorious PIG & Heat of the Moment were also amazing. The service was easy and comfortable, our server was knowledgeable and light hearted with the perfect amount of checking in and boxes for what we couldn't finish (I wish I could remember his name to give proper props!). And of course the view at the top of a building with the breeze - this is totally one of our new spots to frequent and get to know the rest of the enticing menu. I have tried to go here three separate times. Every single time there is hardly anyone there and they don't let you sit anywhere. They seem like they don't want you to be there. We had a group of like 15 people, and they gave us such a hard time we left the next time we went there was the ugly sweater crawl. We (me, my wife, our son, his wife and their son) were in downtown Alpharetta on Sunday and we were looking for a lunch spot to celebrate Father's Day. We liked the look of the rooftop restaurant, so we checked the menu online and it looked good. We made reservations and then went up. We were told as the server came up to take our orders that there would be a 45-minute delay in serving our meal due to the kitchen being backed up (first sign of a problem). We waited 65 minutes for our food to be delivered to us. Our server was friendly and pleasant, but we didn't see much of her during our 65-minute wait. Either she was assigned too many tables, or she wasn't that engaged. When the food was delivered, our son received a hamburger with onions on it, and he had specifically said he could not eat onions when he placed the order. They said they could fix it, but after a few minutes, it became obvious that it would take a while. So, he flagged down our server, and he was given the option of canceling his order, which he did. He never had a bite to eat. We asked for the bill, and the server did not offer to reduce the bill after all our issues. The server didn't even offer to comp his iced tea. I was going to make a scene and demand a reduction in the bill, but my son said not to do that, so I bit my tongue. To add insult to injury, the bill had an automatic 20% tip on it, and the server did not call our attention to it. The manager, if there was one, never came to our table to speak with us, knowing that there were problems. We were willing to wait 45 minutes (but we should have just left at that moment we were told of the wait). And after all that time, my lamb sliders were cooked very dry. We will never eat there again. They may not care (only two families), but this is a caution. to everyone else. I did receive a call from the General Manager two days later - after I had sent my complaints to their website. She was friendly, but no satisfaction was achieved. read more

On a hot Saturday afternoon (90 degree day), it is a tad hot for Up on the Roof. There was shade and fans but not to combat that heat. Inside was no better as myself and the staff were hot. Our server was pretty attentive and the hostess was very accommodating. For an appetizer, we had the calamari and it was very good. Only complaint would be there was more batter pieces than the calamari. I had the lamb burgers but was not impressed. They weren't cooked through (my preferred taste). The strawberry mojito was good. Manager argued that he thought food poisoning took 24 hours to cause symptoms, and just seemed like he didn't want to deal with it. They take your card to run a tab which isn't a problem. I opened a tab and had three beers. When I asked to pay, they said they didn't have a tab open for with my card. Told the bartender what I had and they ran my card for three beers. Couple of days later I was charged twice. Don't know if this is a way to get more tips or what. Ended up paying for six beers. I went here for the holiday bar, Elf'd Up. The decor is cute but not quite a good as I was hoping for. The holiday drinks could be more festively served and not much in the way of holiday apps. We were looking for a fun holiday pop-up for dinner. None of us had been to Up before, and we were excited to make a reservation after seeing their social media ads. The location and decor are great. Beautiful views. The experience was ruined by a total lack of management at the restaurant. There was supposed to be a special festive menu, but we were told they were out of "everything". They were also out of several regular menu items. It took 20 minutes to get four drinks, two of which were draft beers. Our appetizers actually came before our drinks. Our waiter was apologetic and did his best, but obviously they were completely understaffed and disorganized behind the bar. A manager apologized and credited us a round of drinks, which I appreciated, but the night was pretty much ruined. We left after our appetizers. On my way out, I stopped in the restroom and it was a gross mess. For the price point and location, we expected a lot more. Very disappointing experience! read more

Our recent visit to Up on the Roof was nothing short of a disappointment. It began with an unfriendly welcome: a gentleman at the entrance demanded ID. Once inside, things only went downhill. My wife and I waited approximately 15 to 20 minutes at our table, completely ignored. Multiple servers passed by us repeatedly without so much as a greeting, a menu, or even a glass of water. We weren't acknowledged once, despite making it obvious we were waiting to be served. This level of neglect is unacceptable for any restaurant, let alone one that markets itself as a premium dining experience. We left without ordering anything because no one bothered to let us. Save your time and money. There are far better places in town where guests are actually treated like they matter such as Taffer's tavern on the first story. read more

Came here for brunch. First of all the brunch menu was ok as far as variety. My friend and I both got the Grandmothers hangover helper - everything was dry and over cooked. The biscuit disintegrated in my hands when I tried cut it open. We requested fresh ones the 'fresh' ones were hard and crispy on the outside with a little bit of soft bread on the inside, so better but still overcooked. My scrambled eggs were dry clumps on my plate. We also got cheese grits and they were dry and not at all creamy, although they tasted good. The bacon was good...but whole meal definitely not worth the money. I'm wondering if our meal was just left under the warmer long? But really the server or cooks should have visually seen the meal didn't look fresh and was just bad quality for this place? read more

This review is specifically for drinks! Last night my friends and I came here on New Year's Eve to get some drinks. I ordered and expresso martini and my other friend ordered a Bloody Mary. The drinks come and I immediately don't like it and my friend does not like hers either. I have had MANY expresso martinis so I should know what a decent one atleast tastes like. This martini tasted like black coffee mixed with alcohol. I was very disappointed and on top of that, my glass was not even filled to an appropriate amount of the drink. Ridiculous. So I was very upset. (Will insert a pic of where my drink was filled at with a white line.) My friend let me taste her Bloody Mary and I personally didn't think it tasted like any type of tomato or anything related to it if I'm being honest. We asked the bartender if we could switch our drinks to regular margaritas instead and she says "policy states that we Can change it just because you don't like it." So we go out back and sit snd evd up forcing a couple sips in until we just couldn't do it anymore ... I personally would not come back for a drink there... very disappointing. I've heard many great reviews of UP on the Roof! Unfortunately it did not live up to par Cons: -The food was VERY dry.. Both the ribs and lamb sliders. Even with both having a sauce on them, once you bite into it, it was not the best tasting meal. -Our first calamari order came was terrible at (NOTE: the photo I posted was the second serving they gave us after we kindly requested for them to remake it) the first serving was a bowl of crumbs and oil and the pieces of calamari that was served in the dish was not fully fried properly (the breading fell right off when we tried to pick it up with a fork)... I wish I was joking about this part Pros: -The ambiance is great! although it is outside, they do have the rooftop covered with multiple overhead heating so you don't have to worry about being too cold if you visit during the fall and winter (still cover up of course) -The service was AMAZING! we had Sarah-Marie and she was so sweet, accommodating and understanding of our feedback. She is a great server! -Loved our drinks! My boyfriend and I both got a holiday drink and they were very tasty! Bartender knows how to make great drinks! *Overall, great experience with the service. Came for the rooftop views, stayed for... well, just the views. We celebrated my daughter's birthday here, and while the vibe was great, the food and drinks were a letdown across the board. The "Every Day I'm Brusseling" sounded fun but arrived lukewarm and undercooked. The lettuce wrap had barely any lettuce (minor detail, right?), and the chicken bites were overcooked--even though they were dark meat, which is hard to mess up. My fish and chips looked promising until I bit into mushy, doughy batter. Yikes. My husband's Royale with Cheese looked nice but tasted like a sad frozen burger. Drinks? Meh. My martini was warm and too sweet. The margarita was basically liquid sour patch. Service was fine, but our food sat in the window for a solid 5 minutes while staff walked by like it was invisible.
