My high school reunion planned an event here at Chapman & Kirby on a Friday night and it was a great experience. We hosted the event on the private side of Chapman & Kirby and and was glad that we did. Our main bartender William was very helpful the entire night there was another young lady, but I can't remember her name. The ambience of the establishment was very nice like a typical upscale bar, the vibe fit just for the occasion. I ordered the millionaire variation cocktail and drink those all night. I had about three of them and I loved it. It wasn't too strong. It wasn't too sweet. It was a perfect cocktail for me hence why I ordered three. For food, Choices I ordered some egg rolls. I can't remember the exact name of the eggrolls, but they were pretty good a little spicy for me but overall very good for lounge food. Didn't take many photos of the food but I had the BEST time at Chapman & Kirby. This was the highlight of my weekend trip! For one, the service was outstanding, we loved our server and got to chat with the owner. Everyone was sweet and attentive. It obviously gets busy on Sundays, reservations are highly recommended. Without this, we probably would've had hours long wait to get a table. With high demand, there are turn time limits on the tables as well. We had ours for about 2 hours which was plenty of time and got to walk around enjoying the outdoor day party vibes. The DJ and performers are great, playing old school to current music. It was raining, and we were seated at the only table without a tent. We were told the tent was broken and there was no backup. To make matters worse, they kept our deposit even though they made no attempt to provide proper service. I have visited this location twice for Sunday brunch, and so far I like it! The restaurant has a mature crowd and good music . It's a nice vibe and the food is decent. My husband has ordered the chicken and waffles both times. The first visit, he didn't really mention anything about the food. The second visit, he mentioned that the waffles tasted like freezer. The second time, our reservation was at 3:00 p.m., which is an hour before the end of brunch. My pizza was consistent both times. I highly recommend reservations. I don't know if you would be able to be seated without one. It's a nice size establishment, but they have more of a party table setup for large groups, which takes up most of the seating. Drinks are strong and good. On our first visit after our 2-hour reservation was up, we found seats at the bar and were able to catch the rest of a Texans game. TVs are everywhere inside, there is no bad seat from the dining room to the bar. They take up all chairs at the bar around 4:00 p.m. after brunch and then it turns into more of a day party with a live DJ. Street parking is free. I had no issues finding somewhere to park either time. It gets packed on their outside patio, so be sure to walk around before leaving if you're seated inside and want to catch the full vibe of their infamous Sunday funday. The only thing I don't like is that they don't do receipts when dining!! I am confused as to why establishments are now using iPad devices. I don't know what you're charging me for. That would have saved me and the person I met the ridiculous valet that we both paid. This man literally took my car, turned it around and parked it on the corner by the stop sign and handed me my keys backed. And before he did that, I asked the lady as I was exiting my vehicle, how late they stayed out there. Which she seemed to imply they would be there until very late. And yep, you guessed it, when we got back not even 2 hours later, they were gone. Now, after that stunned foolishness, we go inside and the place is dead, empty...I mean, where's the ppl? It might not be brunch but it's still Saturday night in EaDo! "Oh we're closed." then why is the door unlocked, sir? and again, we were not the only ones as we were standing outside trying to figure out where to pivot. Next door which apparently, is same owner, was open but it was almost dead in there as well. We stayed and ate but that experience was not good. The waiter did not know anything about the drinks, said the bartender also didn't know anything about the drinks; how does that work? The service was also subpar due to the fact only one waiter was attending to all the tables. The manager eventually stepped in. The food was ok but then I was charged much more for my entree than the menu stated. They went back and forth a while about this before changing it. Fix your menu, there is nothing to discuss here! First Parking: its paid or valet and there are numerous lots in the area to choose from depending on what time you arrive they can be full. They fill up fast. We found a spot right down the street for $10 for 4 hours. If you arrive after 4pm there is a $20 cover charge, its free before then. Its a pretty big place with several rooms and bars and a huge patio. The music is bumping and the drinks were flowing. This particular Sunday, it was full to capacity as it is on most Sundays. Where do I start? In town for the weekend and picked this spot on a whim based off the hype. I was not impressed. First off we were sat literally right by the entrance which is away from everything. From a marketing and layout perspective the DJ should be the centerpiece. Maybe rearrange the layout as I noticed the other parties that were sat at the table next to us asked to be moved as well. I'm sure this is a constant ask which should tell owners and mgmt that this is an issue that should be addressed. Now on to the food. We ordered Chicken & Waffles, Truffle Parmesan Fries and The Bang Bang Shrimp. The chicken tenders were tasty and waffles had a good flavor but the waffle itself was too thick, overcooked and too small. The truffle fries had wayyyyy too much oil and not enough garlic flavor. The shrimp was amazing. I would order this every time over and over. The customer service is severely lacking. Literally three servers asked us if we had been helped before our actual server came to the table and we only saw her once after she took our actual order. The vibe is good and we didn't have an issue finding self parking) they do offer valet as well). Overall I give this place a 3/5 and would not come back based on the service alone. Let me tell you about my experience tonight. I made my reservation a week in advance for 2:45pm 10/24. We came from out of town and heard great things about this place. I showed up 10 mins early walked up to the front desk the woman in the red top and the bun was the hostess. The security next to her asked me if I had a reservation and directed her to seat us. Im not sure if this woman was a waitress or host but she comes over and tried to take us to the back room and I asked would it be possible to sit in one of the other rooms. The waitress said ok sure IT WILL BE A FEW MINS. So we wait in a corner and wait and wait and wait and WAIT. And I'm confused at this point cuz at least 25 mins goes by and I ask the waitress/host when are we being seating? Her response "soon". We wait and wait and WAIT. 45 mins into being there still not seated. I ask the waitress again what's going on? "We are searching for a table".......... I'm sitting there watching the woman in red seat people with parties of two like me as soon as they come in. How is it possible that all these people are being seated? An hour later people are still being seated. I go up to the woman in red and she tell me WELL YOU GAVE UP YOUR SEAT AND I TOLD YOUR WAITRESS/HOSTESS/WHATEVER SHE WAS if you give up your seat you'll have to wait until all of the reservations come in to be seated. Umm what???? I told her the waitress never said any of that? Why would we agree to give up our seat and reservation to just sit there for hours and wait? Her and her nasty attitude told me again she'll seat us when she's done seating everyone else. I watched as she sat random people with no reservation in front of us to the point that the waiting room had emptied TWICE. Now it's 4PM!!!!! And we are still NOT seated watching her seat walk ins! Absolutely disgusting customer service. The only reason we got a table is because I found another person who was very kind and he sat us within 2 mins. She would've let us sit there all damn night.
