My high school reunion planned an event here at Chapman & Kirby on a Friday night and it was a great experience. We hosted the event on the private side of Chapman & Kirby and and was glad that we did. Our main bartender William was very helpful the entire night there was another young lady, but I can't remember her name. The ambience of the establishment was very nice like a typical upscale bar, the vibe fit just for the occasion. I ordered the millionaire variation cocktail and drink those all night. I had about three of them and I loved it. It wasn't too strong. It wasn't too sweet. It was a perfect cocktail for me hence why I ordered three. For food, Choices I ordered some egg rolls. I can't remember the exact name of the eggrolls, but they were pretty good a little spicy for me but overall very good for lounge food. Now that I think of it, they kind of reminded me of the southwest eggrolls at Chili's. Overall, my experience here was very good. This place definitely lives up to its reputation--I've heard it's a favorite spot for celebrities, and Sunday really seems to be the day to go. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and had an amazing time. The outdoor area in the back is where the real action is, and the delicious drinks definitely added to the fun. They also have a great team of young women working the space who were attentive and helpful with food and drinks. Didn't take many photos of the food but I had the BEST time at Chapman & Kirby. This was the highlight of my weekend trip! For one, the service was outstanding, we loved our server and got to chat with the owner. Everyone was sweet and attentive. It obviously gets busy on Sundays, reservations are highly recommended. Without this, we probably would've had hours long wait to get a table. With high demand, there are turn time limits on the tables as well. We had ours for about 2 hours which was plenty of time and got to walk around enjoying the outdoor day party vibes. The DJ and performers are great, playing old school to current music. My homegirls loved it. Our food was good! We especially enjoyed the Ceviche, it was refreshing on a hot day. The Chicken and waffles are good, grits, the crispy shrimp dish, and I got the BBQ plate which was filling. I liked the meat, it was tender. I brought two people from out of town because I had heard this was one of the best brunch spots in Houston, so I was really disappointed. Finally, the automatic 20% was based off the total before $35 is subtracted, which is what it is but also isn't communicated in the main page of EventBrite. I hope they also pay the performers and it isn't tips only for them, otherwise the brunch is totally lame. They did not adjust our receipt to reflect the cost on the menu. I usually only leave 5-star reviews, but my experience at Chapman and Kirby was very disappointing. I came with a party of six, and we were visiting from out of town. It was raining, and we were seated at the only table without a tent. We were told the tent was broken and there was no backup. Everyone else had covered seating, but no one made any effort to accommodate us so we could eat or drink comfortably. To make matters worse, they kept our deposit even though they made no attempt to provide proper service. The restaurants aesthetics are on point! Even the bathroom is nice; and you HAVE to take a photo before entering. We started off with two tequila shots as the night was just beginning. They have a pretty good cocktail list and prices are fairly cheap. For food, we ordered with their bang bang shrimp, mac and cheese, fries and caesar salad. I love a bar with good food! Music was playing in the background and wasn't too loud so you can still have a conversation. My friend and I sat and chatted for a good 2+ hours before we decided to visit nearby bars. I have visited this location twice for Sunday brunch, and so far I like it! The restaurant has a mature crowd and good music . It's a nice vibe and the food is decent. I've only ordered the pepperoni flatbread (which is an entire pizza by the way, don't let the name fool you) and it is delicious. Greasy, just FYI, but good and fresh. My husband has ordered the chicken and waffles both times. The first visit, he didn't really mention anything about the food. The second visit, he mentioned that the waffles tasted like freezer. I will say that the first time we went, our reservation was at noon, which is the earliest time available. The second time, our reservation was at 3:00 p.m., which is an hour before the end of brunch. My pizza was consistent both times. I highly recommend reservations. I don't know if you would be able to be seated without one. It's a nice size establishment, but they have more of a party table setup for large groups, which takes up most of the seating. Drinks are strong and good. On our first visit after our 2-hour reservation was up, we found seats at the bar and were able to catch the rest of a Texans game. TVs are everywhere inside, there is no bad seat from the dining room to the bar. They take up all chairs at the bar around 4:00 p.m. after brunch and then it turns into more of a day party with a live DJ. Street parking is free. I had no issues finding somewhere to park either time. It gets packed on their outside patio, so be sure to walk around before leaving if you're seated inside and want to catch the full vibe of their infamous Sunday funday. The only thing I don't like is that they don't do receipts when dining!! I am confused as to why establishments are now using iPad devices. I don't know what you're charging me for. The second visit I found out I was charged for water service. They have a water carafe with glasses set up on the table for you upon arrival, and I'm assuming that is what it was for? Idk if it was charged the first visit. I would just give a heads up on asking about any hidden fees. They do include 20% gratuity, but service is pretty good enough to uptip. Disaster from the call on the ride over until walking in the door. It ceases being a disaster minutes after walking in. Why, do you ask? This man literally took my car, turned it around and parked it on the corner by the stop sign and handed me my keys backed. And before he did that, I asked the lady as I was exiting my vehicle, how late they stayed out there. Which she seemed to imply they would be there until very late. And yep, you guessed it, when we got back not even 2 hours later, they were gone. Now, after that stunned foolishness, we go inside and the place is dead, empty...I mean, where's the ppl? It might not be brunch but it's still Saturday night in EaDo! "Oh we're closed." then why is the door unlocked, sir? and again, we were not the only ones as we were standing outside trying to figure out where to pivot. Next door which apparently, is same owner, was open but it was almost dead in there as well. We stayed and ate but that experience was not good. The waiter did not know anything about the drinks, said the bartender also didn't know anything about the drinks; how does that work? The service was also subpar due to the fact only one waiter was attending to all the tables. The manager eventually stepped in. The food was ok but then I was charged much more for my entree than the menu stated. They went back and forth a while about this before changing it. Fix your menu, there is nothing to discuss here! First Parking: its paid or valet and there are numerous lots in the area to choose from depending on what time you arrive they can be full. They fill up fast. We found a spot right down the street for $10 for 4 hours. If you arrive after 4pm there is a $20 cover charge, its free before then. Its a pretty big place with several rooms and bars and a huge patio. The music is bumping and the drinks were flowing. This particular Sunday, it was full to capacity as it is on most Sundays. We had to stand up as we hadn't made a reservation or booked a section. So if you don't want to stand, make a reservation. Never leave Houston on a Sunday! Chapman & Kirby did not disappoint for brunch one bit! We got there at 1pm and didn't leave until 9pm. So grateful we got a section but we ended up canceling it because it was so hot outside and we were able to get bar seating under the AC. We ate first, the food did not disappoint. The atmosphere in there went UP, you hear me! They have hookah and the DJ was had the hits playing. There is really no more I can say about this place because words do it no justice.
