Lots of good things to say- the food - the main reason to go is the wood fired oven - and specifically John's Pizza - a combo of a grilled pizza and salad - fresh uncooked arugula and tomatoes on top of a wood fired 'za. yummy as hell and their house specialty for so many years I cannot count. they may not have invented grilled pizza, but the salad on top thing was a first for me. more on the food - they do well with a variety of items - pastas are also good, as were the ribs service - speedy, attentive, able to handle the summer crowds, and kids as well as adults. we called less than an hour ahead on a friday night and got seating for 9 without any trouble, showed up on time and were seated immediately. atmosphere - decent, nothing special or unusual overall - a good place to go after a long week, a partial bumper to bumper ride south and two vodka's (making you dangerous with kitchen equipment.) read more

Four of us went to the Grill last week. We hadn't been there in ages, for no special reason or event, it is just out of the way a little bit and frankly we kind of forgot about it. That was a mistake, it was better than we even remembered. For sure don't miss the appitizer calamari. It was out of this world. I had the appetier ravioli which was enough for me for two meals. Everyone left with doggy bags, and ate at least once more, one person got two more meals out of it. Don't miss the bread. This is our 'hood restaurant in the Falmouth area (known to locals as "Chappy's"), so we've been here many times, and we keep coming back. It is reliably excellent. From the front, it looks like some kind of road house, but inside it's bright with a semi-Caribbean decor. Many of the wait-staff have been there for years, and they're friendly and knowledgeable. It can be a bit loud, but very friendly. The very-thin crust, oven-fired pizza is terrific -- although, curiously, it doesn't stand up well for carry-out, so eat it in. Pastas and main dishes are great, too, including the daily special salads and soups. Portions are generous, and service is attentive. They are open for dinner, only. They do not take reservations, but if you call ahead they will tell you the approximate wait time and will put your name on the list. That way, you can avoid a long wait even on busy nights. One other plus: the wine list, while short, rotates regularly. And most importantly, the mark-up is less than what you encounter at most good restaurants, so there are some relative values to be had. read more

Excellent food. Decor needs to updated a bit.. new floors would be an extremely welcome and needed update! Ordered the teriyaki shrimp app... delicious taste.. the pineapple salsa accompaniment was very tasty.. but for two people, at $17, three shrimp seems embarrassingly skimpy. Great overall , clean, well executed food. Standards like surf and turf, to specials such as oyster ravioli with fennel cream sauce. Phenomenal wine list, and happy service. Had a great chicken Picatta on special last weekend, served w a flavorful sauce and really good asparagus. Would definitely order again. Calamari is our usual go-to appetizer- really nice here!! I use Yelp all the time and I was a little worried about going to a place with only 3.5 stars. But it was actually great. I was there with 6 people so we tried a bunch of stuff. Here's the upshoot: - Best thing there - Dessert. OMG. The toffee/chocolate layer desert, the bread pudding, and the key lime pie were all ah-mazing - especially toffee/chocolate - Seared Tuna dinner was awesome. Very tasty, fresh, and healthy. With a generous (insanely generous) amount of tuna - homemade ravioli appetizer with the lemon butter sauce was fantastic. Loved all the citrus flavor in the cream sauce, it really cut the richness! - mussels app was great too - Pizza: Pretty good, selection of toppings was extensive. I would say this place was great! 1st time to this local establishment! FOOD: Our party ordered several dishes. The appetizer of the chicken fingers while looked good and came out very hot, it was rather tasteless... odd. The BBQ sauce I do not recommend but the other mayonnaise was very tasty. Now for the pizzas! The John's Delicious was not very delicious... here is my issue that destroyed this pizza... too much balsamic. If it was an aged balsamic, then it would have been perfect, but the Chef poured too much on top and that is all I could taste. I wanted to taste the garlic, caramelized onions and goat cheese, but my palate only felt the assault of this cheap balsamic. 2nd pizza was the Margherita... definitely a disappointment on 2 fronts: 1. my wife felt ill after eating it. 2. It should be fresh buffalo mozzarella. The other two plates were good. The pasta dish was delicious, maybe that where John was that evening instead of making a great pizza. WINE: Tied the Pinot Noir from New Zealand and it was sublime... worked well with my pizza. A little pricey is the only negative. SERVICE: A bit lackluster. We felt rushed at the beginning, then she was no where to be found. The entrees came out almost 10 minutes before the pizza... timing, timing, timing... I have been eating at the Chappaquoit Grill for almost 20 years. The menu has never changed, but their portions have. Tonight I ordered the standard salad and chicken fingers. The salad was all mixed greens with the exception of two slices of mushrooms and roasted peppers. The chicken finger were the tiniest pieces of chicken. I feel like each year things keep getting worse here. I wish they would go back to their original way making their meals. read more

First things first. The writer of the menu cannot spell to save their life, but the amazing quality of the pizza allows for the mistakes. We noticed so many spelling errors on the menu that is became comical for myself and the people I was dining with, but that doesn't matter! The food was great and the service was perfect. PIZZA REVIEW ONLY: We were recommended this place and did carry out. It was kind of hard to find, my GPS took me in circles. As a result, by the time we got the pizza home, it kind of cooled down and didn't taste as good. So maybe eat in if you can. Had the margherita which was pretty good - very thin crust which I liked! It actually tasted even better heated in the microwave for breakfast the next day. Bf ordered the eggplant ricotta, which was kind of disappointing - the eggplant chunks were too big and hard to eat and the sauce was a bit too sweet. Pretty good restaurant. But they do a couple of things REALLY well. The Stilton Burger is without a doubt the best burger I've ever had. Amazing juicy, tasty meat, thin cooked bacon on top, cheese drooling down on all sides... OUTSTANDING. Also, I really like their John's Delicious Pizza. My parents' favorite new restaurant when they visit my brother on the upper Cape. He is finishing his two years leading the Civil Engineer Operations on the Canal. Quaint and quiet inside. easy Parking. Great service. Great food! I had the Warm Goat Cheese salad with a bed bog) of greens . Followed with the Shrimp Scampi Pizza. One alone would have been enough for a dinner. Both were delicious. My Mom has the seafood Shells with tomato base and my dad had the Pomodoro (not sure the Pasta) but overflowing with ground beef... My brother I think had the Manicotti. Not 100 percent sure because it disappeared somewhere into his body before I could ask. read more

So incredibly disappointed by our visit to Chapoquoit Grill tonight. I ordered the appetizer-sized sweet potato, bacon and onion ravioli and a salad. First, there was only one salad dressing choice: balsamic vinaigrette. They should have just called it "balsamic vinegar" as that is all you could taste. It totally overpowered the delicate lettuces in the salad. The ravioli came out and, I kid you not, there were three small ravioli on the plate about the size of a silver dollar. They must have just waved a slice of bacon over the plate because I did not taste any smokiness in the ravioli at all. The ravioli were undercooked or perhaps old because the edges of the pasta were hard. These three sad little ravioli were $12! My boyfriend got the entree-sized wild mushroom ravioli and he said his were not adequately cooked either. We've been to Chapoquoit Grill a few times and, while it had never been spectacular, the food was decent. Not sure what happened tonight, but it will be a long time til next time for us. read more

We've been doing take out, and inside dining here for decades. The meals are always good but the Friday night chef is the best. Last night's penne a la vodka (spicy) was perfect (and two meals) and my wife's salmon entree was also wonderful. Love the grille salad as well. Best thin crust pizza in the area. Been here twice and had great service. The first trip i had the tornelli with chicken and broccoli and it was outstanding. This past time i had the penne and vodka sauce and boy was i heartbroken. I wish I could give zero stars. A place must really be pretty terrible for me to write a negative review. This place has gone wayyyyy down hill . They have had the same boring menu for the past 20 something years . There's a pasta dish that I used to love years ago that I got again and I was beyond disappointed. I can't believe that a chef or cook would actually serve it with pride !! It was the chicken and broccoli tornelli pasta . They have a large and a small portion . I bought the large because it used to be huge and enough for 2 meals for me . Well I was shocked when I opened the box (it was take out) . I actually measured pasta and counted the chicken and broccoli pieces . There was 1 cup (!!!) of pasta which was way overcooked and falling apart . There were 8 BITE SIZED pieces of chicken and 9 bite sized pieces of broccoli!! The rest of the dish consisted of a soupy disaster they call "sauce" it was approximately a cup of watery, undercooked wine flavored pasta water with maybe a hint of garlic . Absolutely disgusting. I'm a local , live nearby and have been a customer here for decades. I will not return any time soon! read more

This is such a great restraunt. It tastes so good. The locals call it chappys. It's is great for kids and they have amazing pizza and French fries. Some people say that the pizza is awful, though I disagree. I think it is perfect. The burgers are juicy and always perfectly cooked, the vegetables are always fresh, and the meats are always very good. The service is pretty good, and most waiters are very nice. We have only had bad service once, and we never saw the waiter again. Anyways the food is super good, and I recommend trying it some time. read more

I'm not a fan. I hope to not return. The maître d' was about as friendly as a bulldog. You'd think she was running Cap Grill. This place has zero going for it in terms of "great summery place." Chapoquoit Grill is a great spot to sit down and have a great burger and rest after a long days work. They have the BEST pizzas and salads. It is a cozy little place with a merry fireplace and the best and nicest waiters. It is a great walking distance and is always so merry when we walk in! They have a really good bar and and nice tables. Me and my family love it there and go there a lot with family because it's such a nice little place to hangout with friends and family. If your in town I would definitely try it out and see what you think. read more

I live in this area so we go to Chappy's frequently. Wood-grilled pizza offers you a simple meal or tortellini, penne a la vodka or baked half-chicken for an upgrade. A nice restaurant that we go to every month or so. We like their menus which includes half portions. A little disappointed a couple of nights ago when we were to meet our friends there though. We told the receptionist tat there would be four of us. She took us to a booth in the corner of the bar area which was, as usual very crowded and noisy. When I looked over the divider to the larger dining area, it was very sparsely filled, so I asked for us to move there and we did. Our meals, which normally are very good, were not up to their normally high standard. Our waitress was exceptionally attentive and courteous. read more

This place is awesome!! I've been going here since I was a little kid and it has always been so so good. Their pizza is great with a nice thin crispy crust. I really love their pasta specials, its big city food in a small town location. Their chefs really know what they're doing. Everything is really fresh and consistent. Overrated. The one good thing I'll say is the calamari was good. Other than that, I'll start off with the drinks... Over priced. 10 dollars for a captain and coke is crazy. And it was weak. Next is the bread and butter, butter hard as a rock, bread cold. I'll move on to the salad, I ordered a Cesar salad, dressing was oddly thin, lettuce tasted like soggy cabbage, extremely small croutons. The pizza I ordered was probably made correctly I just didn't expect to have a pound of lettuce on top of it. It was called john's special or something. Very rich in vinegar rat and goat cheese, to the point I couldn't eat more than a slice or two. Over all not the worst place but if you order a pizza keep it very basic. read more

We got three dishes: penne ala vodka, chicken and broccoli pasta, and the garlic bread, touted on the menu as a 'special treat'. None of those dishes worked. The vodka sauce was so spicy, no other flavor got through (I'm not even going to ask who makes vodka sauce spicy anyway). The chicken broccoli pasta was flavorful but really watery; basically it all swam in water (what happened to good old cream sauce?). The garlic bread was disgusting: flavorless, spongy bread smeared with flavored mayo. Just gross. Who puts mayo on garlic bread? I'm in a good mood, so 2 stars instead of just one. read more

We used to love this restaurant when we first moved to Falmouth 2 years ago, but the past few meals there were disappointing. Service can be very slow as well on a busy Sat. night. Salmon one night would have been good except for a cold sauce they put on it, and at another time salmon portion was more like a child's portion, and served on a cold bed of head lettuce.?? What was that for, I ask? Portions in general seem to be getting smaller. I hope that Chappy grill gets its act together again because we liked it as a local hang-out. read more

This place was just ok. We heard it was a good place to take kids but it was so so. It is dark, they have a limited menu and it is sort of quiet. They do however give you little drink plastic animals which provides a lot of entertainment. They will give half portions of any meal for kids. The Garlic cheese bread was ok but had SO much cheese. Sounds like a crazy comment to some people but we were all kind of grossed out about it. Like a huge cheese, butter glop on top. The burger was ok. The steaks were not great. Not that flavorful and tough. The staff was nice. The hostesses were very sweet to our toddler. The menu had too many pasta dishes, the antipasto dish was gross the cheese was old. The bartender was one of the rudest people I have ever met in the customer service industry. He scoffed when we asked for another drink because our waitress disappeared. I would never go back here. read more

I've been here a handful of times and it has been good experiences in the past, but last night the mussels were not so fresh and contained at least 4 or so that were outright bad, very stinky, and foul tasting. Was hoping not to get sick off bad shellfish and was able to hold it together by spitting out the rotten ones before swallowing them. The Hostess/Mgr. came over to apologize when we complained which was nice but they really need to do better job of quality control. Our other dishes (manicotti & cajun chicken) were very good. It wasn't all bad just one dish and the service was very good. It should be a priority for a cape cod restaurant to have fresh seafood but the lack of attention in this regard made an otherwise nice dining experience sort of off putting and overall it was very disappointing. I will give them another shot in the future but one more rancid dish and I'm out. read more

I am very hard on pizza outside of NJ/NY. That said, this was a very good attempt and a very passable attempt at a thin crust artisan pizza. Sliced in a way that makes you go "but why?" the pizza itself was a bit limp on the inside pieces but used great ingredients. The jalapenos were insanely hot, just the way I like it. We also got a pizza that was topped with arugula and tomatoes and they were smart enough not to dress the pizza before we got it and kept that separate. Good move. Pizza is probably a little overpriced, but overall not bad at all. read more

All the meals here were very good. The pizza was under cooked and raw and burned all at the same time.. But i had excellent Linguine and clams sauce. The mushroom Ravioli was very good. Tuna was good!! I have no complaints minus the pizza. The service was a little slow was on july 4th. read more

7 years later and still fabulous. The chef has gone and nothing has changed regarding the quality and superior execution of the menu. We just sold our home in Falmouth, but we will definitely go out our way to drive to Falmouth from Newton to enjoy the fabulous food, great cocktails (very generous pours) and great conversation at the bar. read more

Wild mushroom ravioli, fig and prosciutto pizza, fresh salads, draft beers--all delicious and attractively presented. And the service was especially efficient and friendly, even though the house was packed. This was a great break from the regular, fried clams Cape fare. read more
