I waited and watched them prepare other people's food and good Lord, this place is a cross contamination nightmare. I stood there and watched as one of the cooks grabbed a used rag, wiped down the grill real quick, then grabbed raw meat, then stuck their hands into a bin of raw veggies, and then grabbed someone's already toasted bun and spread mayo on it, ALL WITHOUT CHANGING THEIR GLOVES EVEN ONCE. I work in food myself, so ik what to look for and what SHOULD be done, and they were just not hitting the mark...at all. And trust, ik how hard it could be working in food, but this is a public health issue, and it isn't hard to change gloves or even just wash ur hands between prep stations. Charleys Cheesesteaks is located in the Sun Valley Mall, and one of the only original food court shops that are still there ever since the food court officially opened here, which is probably a feat of its own. They offer exactly what their name notes, Cheesesteaks, and other sandwich varieties. I won't really talk about the ambience since it's the Sun Valley Mall food court sitting area, so take that as you will. Price wise, it's roughly about the same as the other spots around, but if you have to compare, they're probably on the cheaper side, if not one of the cheapest for food options in this food court. Their menu isn't terribly large, so your options will just be a select few sandwiches from them, and then really just fries of variation, and that's about it. Service was pretty good though on that day for me, but it's not always, as I've been here in the past, and it wasn't always great, but hey, it's a rotating hire kinda place, or teens looking for temp jobs and such, so it's to be expected inconsistent at times. Their sandwiches in the past have been decent, so thought I'd give it a try again on this day. Got the Bacon Buffalo Chicken sandwich, with a side of fries, and also the medium sized one. It was pretty decent. Quantity of meat in there was generous, the amount of other stuff like bell peppers and so on were also aplenty. Enough cheese on it so no disappointments there. Fries were okay, just standard fries. And the taste was pretty good, though I did expect it to be spicier since it was advertised as buffalo chicken, so that's the main let down, but all things considered, not too bad. Final word? I'd give it a shot, especially if you're looking for options at the mall, and a quicker one besides the sit down restaurants just outside the door in the floor above. It's not mind blowing by any means, but they're solid for sure, as I will probably go back again for another sandwich at several points in the future. read more

We ordered two different sando's, and one order of fries. The fries were hot and fresh and the sandwiches . . . OMG fresh soft bread, great taste was more than we expected for "mall food", amazing. My wife had a special request for her order, and it came hot and fresh just as she ordered. There are times when we don't get that in upscale restaurants. Theirs a huge temperature and cross contamination safety issue here. This is coming from someone who's worked at a proper Charley's so it breaks my heart cuz the food is good if done correctly. The general manager himself is refrying food after it sits in the hot unit. Waited 25 minutes for my food and he takes the already fried boneless chicken wings out of the hot unit and refries them for 30 seconds. Same with fries grabs it out of the hot well and throws them back into the fry basket. Second, Lady on the grill instead of using the tongs to place meat on the grill uses her gloved hands to do so and instead of washing her hands and regloving uses those exact same gloves to touch bread and prepare the mayo and topping on the sandwich. Had to refund my entire order because no way am I risking getting sick because these kitchen basics aren't being attended too. I'm an adult can you imagine the kids you're feeding. For $8.99 plus tax, we could get a Small Cheesesteak Sandwich, Small Fries and Small Drink. I don't know what I was thinking, I opted out of having Mushrooms, Onions and Bell Peppers and kept the Lettuce, Tomato and Pickles. Guess I was thinking of a more traditional sandwich. Anyway, after the order taker took my order and gave me my change, she turned around and pulled a basket of fries out of the fryer and flipped them to drain. Then she put on a pair of plastic gloves to salt and dish up the fries. I noticed that she went back and forth from register to food prep and constantly changed her gloves. Good job! There was an employee working the grill by himself until an older gentleman came out. Then the younger employee took over the second register. Somehow, while this seems organized, it wasn't. There were a few orders waiting to be prepared and no customers waiting to order. Total wait time for our order was about seven minutes. Yes, I know I'm ordering food from a shopping mall food court. My expectations were lowered for both service and food but this just wasn't a good experience. The size of the Cheese Steak was snack sized. The fries were warm but not hot. Less than $12 later, I sat and waited . . . it may have been only four minutes until I got my food. Nice! Then the line started forming, and I noticed that it moved quickly, and others who came after me also got their food quickly. What I got: thin slices of chicken with a tangy honey sauce on it. The sauce is what did it for me, it was kickin'. It's not too big, so people who aren't big eaters like I am will be able to eat it all in one sitting. Fries were pretty mushy, but then, I'm not much of a fries lover. Note that I did NOT get an actual cheesesteak. It looks like the low ratings on Charley's are from those who got the cheesesteak. It's hard to beat the Cheese Steak Shop, and I assumed that Charley's wouldn't be able to. Yet their wrapper says "#1 Cheese Steak In The World!" Looking in from the outside, the shop was a small, kind of hole in the wall, place almost unnoticable to passers by. Now, the food. We ordered the traditional philly cheese steak with the works which come with steak, grilled onions, green peppers, mushrooms, and white american cheese topped with lettuce and tomatoes on a nice chewy french style sandwich roll. The steak was flavorful but a bit dry and the grilled onions and peppers along with the mushrooms were nicely done and not over cooked. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and with all that combined, it turned out to be a nice tasty philly cheese steak sandwich. In my opinion, I was satisfied with my choice and would surely return whenever I get a craving for a tasty cheese steak sandwich. Kudos to Charley's. read more

I personally ordered the bacon 3 cheese steak with some gourmet fries and regular fries. Fries are ok. Gourmet fries are great. The toppings make it delicious.
