I stepped into this restaurant and it felt like I was in the 80's. We were visiting my mother in law and wanted to grab some gyros to go. The sign said closes at 9 pm and we got there by 8:15 pm and went to this drive thru that was not working for 5 mns. Finally my husband went inside to order carry out. They had to ask kitchen if they were still cooking food at 8:20 pm. They said yes and we ordered 3 gyros with fries. I proceeded to take pictures for my yelp review and a waitress came running to ask what I was doing and if I had permission to take pictures. She was a bit aggressive and asked me a lot of questions to why I was writing reviews and if I wrote bad ones and I was a bit confused. Am I not allowed to take pictures? She became much nicer after I explained to her the whole Yelp review thing. She said she heard of Yelp and even said she wanted to write reviews. Our wait was over 20 minutes. Around 8:30 pm, a mother and son came in and they declined their to go order. The sign says close at 9 pm so I felt bad for them. Our gyros were not good. The meat was burned and unflavorful. The pita was very thin like a tortilla but it was a pocket. It was dry and the sauce was also unflavorful. We all agreed that we will never go back. Our fries were also not good. They needed salt and were cold. I'm so sad because the last time I was here, 2 years ago, it was great! My mother in law told us that the restaurant was under new ownership. The food has not been good since. I wish I would have known. I think if they changed the time to 8:30 pm if they will turn people away before 9 pm. If they trained the wait staff customer service and not grill customers for writing reviews and seasoned their food, used good Tzatziki sauce and real pita bread; this place would back to awesome! It's been a minute since I've been here so I did have previous expectations. This was one of the worst experiences we've had in a long time. To the point we were getting ready to walk out, as it turned out we should have. Service was very poor with orders coming out wrong to improperly prepared dishes. My big issue was the cleanliness of the restaurant staff and the restrooms. If an employee of mind would have showed up for work in the condition one waitress did I would have sent her home. Appearance and cleanliness and service should be number one. I could go on but I'll stop but none of us will be back.....................ever. read more

The posted hours for the restaurant said they were open until 8pm. Went to the Central Ave. location at 7:25pm on 5/14/26. There was no response at the drive thru station. Went to the pickup window. Was told that the restaurant was closed and they were cleaning up. Not the only time this has happended. Correct hours should be posted. read more

Passing through the area and was looking for a place that wasn't a chain restaurant. Greek food sounded good so we walked into Charlie's. A large restaurant with a diner feel to it. Our waitress was very nice and the menu was huge, so we took some time to look it over. She brought over waters and we went with Greek food. Got some delicious wraps. I ordered fries and expected it on the side, they came inside and when I saw the size of the wrap I knew why! Wow!! Huge portions and very tasty gyros. Prices were very affordable, felt like I was dining out 20 years ago! We left happy and full without breaking the bank and left a very nice tip. We will not be returning to this establishment. We came for breakfast and were very disappointed. We saw our waitress 2 times during our visit. Once to order coffee, then 15 minutes later when the coffee arrived, to place our order. I specifically ordered my eggs to be cooked medium with no runny whites. When a different server brought our order, my eggs were at best over easy, gelatinous whites. I could not eat them. Our waitress never returned to see if everything was ok or to refill our $3.50 coffees or soda. We then waited to receive our check after requesting it from a different server, it never came, so we went to the register to pay. We were told by the person cashiering that our server needed to cash us out. She finally arrived, could not find our ticket, complained it was a new system. I discussed the eggs with her. She said to charge me for the other items in the meal would cost more than the meal I did not eat. If she had come back to the table, I would have refused the order and had only coffee. She finally rang up our meals, we paid and did not include a tip. She commented about the no tip. Outside, I asked for a tip to be left for her which was done. On the way home, I began to question the amount of the bill and returned to speak with a manager. I was hoping for an explanation as well as a reduction for the meal that was not correctly prepared or eaten. This did not happen. I had hoped to get some resolution but left more angry. They also could use a good cleaning. Salt, pepper, and syrup containers have not been wiped clean for quite some time. Went earlier around 3. Waitress was inattentive. Food was okay, could be better. My water had something floating in it and waitress was nowhere to be found. When she came back, she gave me no chance to ask for a new one. Ordered a side of bacon and it never came, but it was on the bill. We reminded her when she brought out our food, but after that, nowhere to be found again. I guess I can't blame her because when we went up front for the bill, it seemed she was waitressing and managing the drive thru by herself. We are regular customers that stopped in at 620 pm on a Sunday. We realized the place was closing at 7 pm, but based on our service in the past we felt we could eat our usual salads and be gone by 7 pm, heck we would have even just taken them to go. I understand employees want to leave as soon as they can, and often starting cleaning and closing down sections at the end of the night, it also helps the bottom line with costs. But we were told the kitchen was closed and they would not serve us with 40 minutes left before closing. That is just lazy and poor service. Needless to say they have lost us as customers, there is just way to many choices out there that provide better service and better food. read more

I really can not write a fair review for Charlie's from our recent visit since we were never waited on. We stopped for an early dinner this Thursday. When we arrived and walked in we sat in one of the front booths. There were two different waitresses that looked our way but never greeted us or acknowledged us. We continued waiting until other customers came in and sat down. They were handed menus almost as soon as they sat down. At this point I told my husband I was not going to stay any longer. First impressions were that it was bright and clean. The wall of the booth that our party of four sat in had a brownish/red spatter on it. Had to wait for waitress but she got our drink orders and was very pleasant. Took some time to get drinks but coffee was good as were other soft drinks and all were replenished a few times. After ordering it took some time to get orders. The stir fry came out with a large red sauce of some sort on top and did not look very appealing or oriental and taste wasn't quite as expected either. The chicken gyros had tomatoes where core was not completely removed. The sauce was excellent though. The country scrambler was quite bland and somewhat on the dry side and just seemed to lack adequate seasoning. Finally, 2 eggs scrambled with bacon and side of French toast had the least complaints. And only our waitress could check us out so we had to wait until she came to the register. While menu had many offerings it was if establishment was trying to offer all cuisine and that may have been down fall. It would seem menu should be pared down to what could be executed at a level of excellence and high quality concentrating on specialties they excel at. read more

Have been going here off and on over many years. Stopped today for breakfast and it was terrible. It was to be a country skillet - I'm not sure what country likes burnt potatoes mixed into their scrambled eggs. Even the toast was over browned and slathered with butter perhaps thinking I wouldn't notice! The servers were pleasant and efficient. It was not the servers problem, but she should have been able to take one look and return it to the kitchen. Waitstaff: My daughter asked: "Daddy, why does the waitress keep asking you if you want more coffee?" Enough said. The kitchen seems particularly fast, also. It usually takes longer for my kids to decide what to eat than it takes for the kitchen to prepare the food! The prices are low and the portions are ample. We used to go to the Charlie's on Monroe street but that location has closed down. This location seems to be a lot cleaner and nicer than the Monroe street location. The food and portions are the same. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are large. The service was very fast. I'm not sure if that's because they're always fast, or because there were only a few other tables in the restaurant. Overall, it's a great place to go to get a gyro! read more

Not a lot of vegetarian choices but a few. Their hummus is fantastic, I'm a big fan of their hummus and vegetables. Lots of egg selections. Coffee is excellent when it's fresh. Service has always been pretty good. Only ordered take out once and they messed it up but I find that almost anywhere I go for take out. Greek salads are fantastic, be sure and get dressing on the side. All you can eat fish on Wed and Fri is a great deal for the bigger eater. Kids love the chocolate chip pancakes. When I did eat meat I would often get chicken dishes, sometimes you could taste the chicken was fresh and sometimes you could tell that it had been cooked earlier and reheated. read more

Apparently, hanging up on takeout orders and then not answering the phone is a thing?! Nope!

First, I LOVE the drive-thru. I'm lazy AND I like taking my dog for rides, and a drive-thru means she gets to come with me to go get dinner. I've never eaten at the restaurant, but have gotten carry out a few times. Their coneys are great-- The only place around here that I can find that uses Michigan hot dogs. So many other places use gross skinless meat-turds. Coneys need a snap when you bite into them! Their fries are plain, but fine. I wish the loaded ones had a cheese sauce instead of shredded. It all kind of falls apart and nothing stays on the fries. I also appreciate that they don't flinch when I ask for coneys without buns, or gyros without a pita. read more

This place stunk there was an ant infestation, only 2 waitresses and only one other customer was there and it still took forever for us to get our syrup,Tabasco, Jellies, and our meals in fact everytime we've been there the service sucked if you still want food from Charlie's go to the one in Maumee the service is great the food is great and you don't have to worry about ants trying to make off with your dinner. read more

Love me some Charlie's! They do dogs as good as Rudys (and their chili is not so greezy), especially the straight up coneys and Chicago dogs. Breakfast is solid. Alright Mediterranean food but the gyros are amazing and their old style feta bruschetta is hearty and delicious, one of my favorites there (have them throw on some onions and olives and it's even better). Good sandwiches, wraps, and salads. Only complaint is the inconsistent service, which seems to be pretty common unfortunately. Only about 1 out of 4 visits does it seem to be an issue for me though, think there's just a couple 'meh' servers. All in all, totes worth the risk of a bad server, the foods worth the wait. Edit: Seems like most people aren't a fan of the usual climate of Charlie's which can be chilly for sure lol but I love it that way, especially in the summer, or with some hot soup or tea. Having said that, im a pretty tall guy and not on the skinny side, most people will prob want to wear long sleeves. Having worked in a kitchen several times though, this is probably great for the cooks and employees who are in the hot kitchen or warm running around which i can totally appreciate, and im guessing the reason they keep it that way. read more

Giving two stars for large portions and being able to order anything from the menu at any time, and they have a drive through. Chili tastes...well....off. You need to load it up with cheese and sour cream, salt....otherwise, it tasts like an experiment. Sausage and gravy with biscuits...biscuits must be canned or frozen and made day before. Gravy weirdly tastes like chicken bouillon--not what you expect in sausage gravy....even has a golden yellow color to it.. Spinach pie is good, baklava is fantastic, other foods are mediocre. Staff really needs to learn to smile. What Jimmy wrote in June....go when you are broke and looking for convenience. Do not go because you want good food in a pleasant atmosphere. I come here when I'm broke and need a convenient bite to eat. My biggest concern is that the restaurant is usually visibly dirty, with food debris splattered on the Venetian blinds and walls. Often during the afternoon hours, service can be slow, and it can be difficult to find a clean table. I always question cleanliness, especially after watching Restaurant Impossible on The Food Network. You do get a lot of food for your money, despite the appearance. Definitely not the most consistent food quality in the area. I'll go ahead and give it 3 stars, because I frequent Charlie's enough to know it can be really good. read more

Charlies's is one of our favorite breakfast stops. The food is good, well portioned and reasonably priced. They have a 1/2 off on certain items for the early risers. The wait staff is on the ball, our favorite gal being Andrea. She rocks, and after several visits she knows our "usuals" and has them for us at the table before we get settled in our seats. read more

Against our better judgement we came to Charlie's to see if things have improved since our last visit. And they have! Eggs were cooked perfect and the onions were cooked WITH the perfectly cooked hash browns rather than just throwing some raw onions on top of burned on one side potatoes.
