Charo chicken is El Pollo Loco times ten. If you have never gone, you have to go to the one on Pacific Coast Highway in Long Beach. There are several locations and they are not owned by the same individual. I have gone to the one in Torrance because it is closer to me, however, I turned right around be cause it had a funny smell and looked dirty. That location has a different owner and you can tell. With that being said, Charro is a hidden gem. Unfortunately, they have no Los Angeles or Westside locations. I was introduced to this place by a friend the Chicken is finger licking good. The garlic lemon sauce is unique and makes you savor every morsel of food. There is no place that it can be compared too. I usually get my chicken well done because I like a little extra crisp to my Chicken skin and with extra lemon garlic sauce. Their sides are divine. My favorite is their salad. A good salad is hard to find and they most definitely have one. All of their ingredients are extremely fresh. They give you a salad with lettuce, cherry tomatoes, cheese and tortilla strips. I leave the tortilla strips off. They do not disappoint with their dressing either. They have a ranch that is yummy. However, if you want to kick it up a notch, try their creamy cilantro. It will be worth the drive if you don't live in the area. Side note..when you order a two piece breast and wing...they usually throw in a bonus wing. read more

Don't waste your time with their new soup, especially when it sounds good on a rainy day. It was delivered Luke warm, they didn't even fill the large to - go bowls to the top. I hate "tinny" canned soup and that's exactly what it tastes like, mushy veggies. I think the only thing that, is their's, is the chicken and beans. Yucky. It looked like the chicken you would see on a "display"; looks delicious but once you try to eat it, it becomes the worst decision of your life. The rice was also oily and tasteless. Wow. Had left a great review in the past because I love this place. I called in and ordered as usual and when I picked it up, I gave the female cashier my gift card and asked her if she could throw it away, since there was no more money on it. She rolled her eyes and said, "the trash is behind you!" She threw it away and gave me my food. I told her If she didn't have that kind of attitude i would have left "then" a tip. as I walked out, I said, "thank you." She said, "thank you!" She got dramatic and yelled "thank you" while laughing. It was a horrible and sad experience after my previous encounters. Stacey was great. I ordered online thru yelp/eat24 where I specifically ordered the papa charo combo but online it says "4 piece combo". So going in, picking up my order, I thought it came with a drink. It was the exact same price online and in store with everything the same except online orders don't get the drink (which I later found out). Doesn't make sense to me why there's a difference between online/call in/in person orders when it's the same location and even same item/combo. There was even a sign on the menu "specials come with medium drink". I initially asked the girl who first helped me and she said with her monotone voice and straight face "it doesn't come with a drink." Left the issue alone cause I knew it would be pointless with her. I sat and waited for my order and saw the specials/medium drink sign. My order was ready and luckily I spoke with Stacey. I didn't even have to call her over, I just looked at her and she knew I had a question. She came over and I asked her if I should call in my order next time so I can get my drink for my papa charo order. She confirmed it doesn't come with online orders and it's better to call in (even gave me a menu with their number on it). She ended up giving me a complimentary drink anyway, which is great customer service! Thanks Stacey! Do yourself a favor and call in your order if you want the drink that comes with the specials. On a random Friday my coworker and I decided to stop in and I havn't been to a charo chicken for more than a decade. The staff seemed friendly enough, but there seemed to be a bit of litter on the ground and the salsa bar was a mess. I ordered a BBQ chicken burrito, it was disappointing, but what do you expect when you squirt bbq sauce into a chicken burrito? The original location in this area is on Main Street in seal beach and the other location near the traffic circle in Long Beach together deliver some of the best Mexican style flame grilled chicken. A fairly healthy and fresh option with a unique taste. Great for families or groups, large plates and lots of side dishes at a reasonable price make this a perfect option for picnics and parties. OK, I'm normally not a fast food chain restaurant type of person. However, so far, this has been my local go-to fast food place since I moved down here. I haven't looked at the nutritional listings (if they even have them) for their food, but I'd guess that it's a little bit healthier than the usual fast food place, since it's mostly chicken based items. I've only gotten take out here, never stayed to eat. They do have indoor and outdoor seating. You can call your order in ahead of time, and there's also delivery available. I usually just walk over & pick up my food. I've tried mostly salads there so far. So far, my favorite has been the BBQ chicken salad, which is chicken, lettuce, corn cheese, pico de gallo salsa, tortilla strips, and BBQ ranch ressing. It has corn cut off the cob, not the canned stuff. Sometimes the corn kernels stick together in a row, so you can tell. Not that I have anything against canned corn. I also liked the chicken tostada salad, which comes with chicken, lettuce, rice, choice of beans (pinto or black), lettuce, chicken, pico de gallo. The fiesta salad was OK, with a smaller variety of ingredients: chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, tortilla strips, cheese and your choice of House Oil & Vinegar, Cilantro Caesar, or Ranch dressing. I was disappointed with the seasoned fries. What seasoning are they referring to, salt? They tasted like regular wedge cut fries to me. There's a salsa bar there too, but I haven't really tried it out. They have occasional coupons that come in the mail too. The menu at Charo Chicken is a little more diverse, they offer a few different burritos, salads and are notable for thier baked potatoes. The side dishes are tasty, I really like thier potato salad. The salsa is pretty good too, way better than El Pollo Loco. But the chicken.....the chicken is fabulous. Marinated, juicy, tender, tasty. We ordered from here to cater a luncheon for about 15 people and the driver delivered everything on time, hot and ready to serve in family-style trays. They even included serving utensils, paper goods and little individual wet wipes. Great service, great chicken. read more

I've had Charo Chicken twice now, because it's across the street from where I work. If it were not across the street from where I work, I probably never would have stopped in, but I think it's maybe the second or third best eating choice within walking distance (second to Cyclo Noodles and possibly Jerry's). When their chicken is good, it's great. It's tender and the skin is heavily spiced, fatty and flavorful. This tends to happen with the thighs and other dark meat. When it's not good, it's unchewable. You put it in your mouth and it's like chewing gum, or strawy wood, albeit with a nice exterior skin. This tends to happen with white meat. Moral of the story: get dark meat. And as for sides, it doesn't really matter. Everything is passable. The garlic mashed potatoes do have an unidentifiable spice that may not be for everyone, but I kind of like it. read more

Good for a quick weeknight bite. They deliver too if youre feeling lazy. They have a huge salsa bar which fresh pico de gallo and salsa. The guys don't speak much English but are very nice. They gave us two free corns! yay for free stuff We ordered 3 piece meal, chicken nachos, and 2 tacos grandes. The chicken wasn't the best I've had but it was flavorful. It comes with two sides. Because I'm a lazy-ass I've never actually been inside this Charo Chicken (or any, for that matter)...so I will rate their delivery service. They are just great--sure I have to wait 45min to 1hr sometimes but I know that I'm calling at the same time as all of the soccer moms are, so it's cool. And yeah, sometimes I'm so hungry I'm foaming at the mouth when the delivery lady/man comes, but again..it's cool. They just know to hand my food to me with a long stick so they don't lose a finger. Ok, fo' real tho--they're always super nice on the phone and always nice when they're droppin' off your grub. They've got some mighty tasty chicken, fresh-tasting salsa, soft tortillas, etc. I highly recommend their baked potatoes, salads w/cilantro dressing, their nachos and I've heard that their chicken sammiches are good too. I've got a real "love-hate" relationship with Charo Chicken... I usually get the 4-piece chicken meal or the nachos with x-cheese and added chicken breast. The food usually tastes great...unfortunately from time to time all the "grease" inside the container with the chicken leaks all over the bag when I have it delivered and this end with the chicken being dry and tasteless. Otherwise, the food is usually really tasty. But this isn't really the "hate" part... The food has made me very "sick" in the past...like hitting up the bathroom the next day over and over again sick...yeah, I know...TMI right? But I'm trying to be honest here...the food, when consumed, makes me happy. It's tasty and pleasing to the taste buds...but the end result has me questioning "Why? Why did I eat this crap?!" My hubby and I came here for an early dinner, and were very surprised at the quality of food! It was really good! I only say that we were surprised, because we'd only seen Charo Chicken locations before, and never realized that it wasn't just another cheap-o food chain like some others that I won't mention. The chicken we ate was super duper juicy and tasty with the garlicky sauce that they give you the choice of having. Geez! I couldn't believe it. The facility could have been a tad bit cleaner and more organized, but it seemed that they were pretty high-traffic, which I'm sure can be challenging to keep up with. I expected this to be just like pollo loco. Actually I was pleasantly surprised that the food is much better than that. The chicken is garlicy and not overcooked. I always come here for lunch with my mom and the cashiers are always so friendly. This time it was a different cashier, Jessica. She had her airpods on and was not paying attention to what I was ordering, I had to repeat myself more than once. I'm giving this place a 3 stars because I love their food but hated this girl's customer service. I ordered Moe's potatoes and it was fantastic! The chicken juices flavor the potato, and a generous scoop of guacamole made it very tasty. On the down side, the guy behind the register acted like he couldn't care less if we were there or not, and seemed to busy himself with phone calls, etc. MAJOR attitude. If I had the choice to NOT pick a star, I would. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody, and here's why: 1.) It took them OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF to deliver a couple of burritos and some fajitas. It's not like I live in outer space or anything--I was located .4 miles away from this location. 2.) The food was lukewarm. They messed up the order (by not involving what I paid extra for--ie; the plate NOT the entree even though it clearly says on my receipt that that is what I paid for. 3.) When I called after an hour and fifteen minutes--the cashier mentioned that she would call the driver to see where he was and would call me right back in the span of ten minutes. Did she call back? Nope. So, when I called back after 15 minutes of not hearing from her, she picked up and asked me to hold and I simply told Sheila that I was not going to hold and demanded to speak to a manager. I explained my situation to the manager Lupe, and he was very apologetic and understanding but I demanded my money back. He told me that I would see the refund back into my account in three days (which will be Wednesday).
