This was our last night in New York after 6 glorious days! We wanted something close to our hotel, something a bit different than what we had been eating and I needed some spice! Charoen Krung did not disappoint, I got the Drunken noodle with chicken and it was delicious!!! Just the right amount of spice not over powering but you know it's there. My mom was going to get the Pad Thai but decided to venture out and get the Pad-Se-Ew with chicken the portions were huge! We also ordered Spring rolls to start, they were piping hot and crunchy. Our server was so sweet and helpful when we ordered she made sure that we didn't have any allergies and that our tolerance for spice was good for what we ordered. She was very attentive with filling up waters and checking in on how we were doing throughout the meal. The vibe inside the restaurant was immaculate, they had good music, it wasn't too loud but you could hear it and still talk at a normal level and hear your dining companion. The restaurant was super clean and fresh looking, we really loved all the accents and lighting, tables and seating. Came here on a saturday around 12:30 PM and it was relatively empty throughout our meal, so I wouldn't say you need a reservation. It was well-lit and very quiet. I ordered the crispy duck over rice. I didn't really like the flavors in the sauce served on the side, but I did like the brown sauce that was poured over the rice. I've had this place saved on my list for a while, and I'm so glad that I finally got to make a reservation and go for dinner on a Wednesday night! I'm really glad that I made the reservation, because the restaurant was packed even at 8pm. It's not a huge restaurant, but they managed to fit a lot of tables. I love that the menu has a combination of authentic Thai dishes, and more typical dishes you would find like Pad Thai. There are so many things from the menu that looked good, so it was really hard trying to narrow it down. In the end, I ordered: - Chive dumplings (5/5) - Massaman tofu curry (5/5) - Mango sticky rice (4/5) The sticky rice was good but I wish the mango was a bit more ripe. The employees were also all super friendly and never made us feel rushed, even when we ended up being the second to last table at the end of the night. Charoen Krung Thai doesn't look like anything special on the outside, but gosh it's fantastic on the inside. We loved the vibe, service, and especially the food, with dishes you don't find at just any Thai place you walk into. We weren't extremely hungry, so we went with a relatively small order of spring rolls, corn fritters, and widely-praised Panang short ribs. The spring rolls were the sleeper hit of the meal, so fresh and flavorful but better than your standard version, accompanied by a sauce I didn't recognize but that gave a great acidic punch. The short ribs were enormous, definitely a dish for sharing. In addition to the delicious curry and well-braised meat, it had more vegetables than I expected (eggplants and long beans), which was a welcome surprise. I was thrilled to see a bigger N/A cocktail menu than usual. I ordered a Da-Ra Thong, and it was complex and refreshing. I took my first sip as the bartender was walking by, and he paused to check my reaction with a thumbs up and questioning expression - I returned the thumbs up with a smile! It was representative of the great service here, where people were friendly and really cared that you were enjoying your dinner. Downright excellent - go to this place! read more

Tried a vegetarian dish called Tofu Kua Krob which is basically fried tofu cubes with chili garlic on it. I found it to be too salty and a little pricey at $24 for what it was. A Thai friend who joined lunch tried Kra Pow Moo Sup and said it was ok. Overall cute spot but the food flavor felt a bit lacking. Maybe I'd go back to try another item or for drinks. read more

Also some overselling by waitstaff on the flavors so take recommendations with a grain of salt. I'd suggest visiting and trying dishes here you can't find elsewhere, but pass on the standard menu items that sound elevated but at the cost of flavor, especially from (missing) aromatics. Great Thai option in Midtown East! Stopped in for dinner on a Friday night and had a fantastic experience. Be aware, in NYC most moderately priced restaurants are short on space. The seating is tight, but the staff is friendly and the food, quite tasty. I had two classic dishes: drunken noodles and pad thai. Both were generous and flavorful. They also had to singers playing jazz standards which made for a very joyful dining room. Would definitely return. read more

Charoen Krung Thai is a popular Thai spot in midtown. They are definitely bringing traditional flavors with a modern twist to its customers. The night we came here, we tried some standout dishes: The crispy corn fritters and curry puffs, both perfect as appetizers. The ribs were succulent, flavorful, and literally fall-off-the-bone--definitely a highlight. The fried red snapper was delicious and perfectly fried, and the mango salad on the side, I couldn't stop eating it. We mainly ate the fish without the sauce it came with. As for the drinks, we had soju-based cocktails, which were great, but with the full liquor license coming soon, it'll be interesting to see what new drink options they'll offer. The vybe overall is fun and I squealed when our shaved ice dessert came out! It was thai iced tea flavor (which I love) with 2 different kinds of jelly inside. Omg how to begin this review, this restaurant was incredibly delicious and so so busy at lunch time. The ambiance was great, a little rowdy with loud conversations around me. I saw office employees enjoying themselves a sit down lunch. I came to this restaurant as I was getting hungry after having received my monthly allergy injections. I had to wait 5 minutes for a table since the business was so busy. Maybe ten minutes after I was seated the lunch rush died down. I ordered myself the complimentary appetizers salad with peanut dressing and steamed dumplings (mixed chicken and shrimp) and for my entree I ordered a chicken pad Thai. I came in hungry, and enjoyed myself the delicious complimentary appetizers. Once my Pad Thai had arrived, I was a bit full from my appetizers. The lunch Pad Thai was delightfully packed with so much flavor. I would say this is one of the best Thai restaurants I have had in the city. The interior design of the restaurant is giving off beautiful aesthetic vibes. I also ordered myself a Thai Iced Coffee and it was so tasty. I enjoyed every sip of my iced coffee. I of course had leftovers from my Pad Thai which is perfect it meant I had dinner. So happy this business is doing well. The staff were friendly during my time here. I always liked their interior design and I was pleasantly surprised that they also had a second floor for more seats. I ordered the Khao soi chicken which tasted standard. I've been here a couple of times now and I've never been disappointed. They can be busy, especially at peak dinner/weekend hours, so try to make a reservation. My favourite dish that I've had here was the bamii moo dang moo krob (pork belly over noodles). The egg noodles were a little chewy (love), and I liked the small amount of light broth at the bottom. Pork was fantastic -- roasted pork really flavourful with a hint of smokiness and complemented the delicious crispy pork belly slices (lovely crunch, not too salty or oily/fatty) super well. The version with duck (bamii duck) was super yummy, too. (Crispy pork belly appetiser is similarly delicious, loved the perfect crisp and how juicy the meat was. Excellent ratio of lean to fatty meat.) Some other highlights: - Duck paloh was really tasty. The meat was rich and tender -- so soft it fell apart easily when chewing -- and the light marinade was the perfect amount of sweetness. (I didn't taste much cinnamon, though, despite the description in the menu). - Krapow moo sup was surprisingly meh, esp considering it's such a classic dish. It wasn't really spicy and the ground pork felt a little unevenly flavoured -- some bites were kind of bland while other bites carried much more of the spice/basil/soy sauce aroma. - Sweet corn fritters were really good, although the price point was a little high. It wasn't too greasy/oily despite how much it was fried, and I really liked the chili sauce that it came with. - For a sweet treat, I was a big fan of the banana sticky rice. The sticky rice was tasty without being too sweet, and it paired wonderfully with the light soft banana and the vanilla ice cream on the side. Overall, the food is always fantastic, and I think the portion sizes were perfect to feel satisfied without being stuffed. Price point is quite reasonable (esp for this quality of food). The restaurant is named after one of the major international food hubs in bangkok, and brings a huge variety of unique thai dishes. I had such a great time here and our server Pioy was incredible! My friends and I kept seeing this on social media and we finally went and ordered many different dishes to try. The presentation in all these dishes were all so beautiful, creative, and colorful - it really made the whole experience enjoyable and fun especially since the flavors were just as explosive. Food: 1. Seafood Hor Mok - This was presented quite cute in a little cauldron but it was a little bit difficult to take things out. I enjoyed the variety of seafood in the pot but I do wish the portion was just a little bigger. 2. Ghang Phed Duck I had definitely been eyeing this on the menu before my visit and I am so happy it lived up to its hype and my expectations, beyond my expectations really. I loved how crispy and juicy the duck was and that sauce with lychees was absolutely divine. I could've honestly eaten this whole dish on my own. 3. Crispy Pork Belly Unfortunately, this appetizer wasn't really worth it in my opinion. I love a good crispy pork belly but it seemed a bit overpriced and not all the pieces were evenly cooked. Some were very dry and maybe 1 or 2 were fine. 4. Bamii Duck The clear soup side it came with was a familiar and nostalgic flavor and my party really enjoyed it. The dish as a whole was alright to us but nothing in particular really stood out. 5. Shrimp Paste Fried Rice This was very unique! I loved the shrimp paste and the assortment of ingredients here. One of the most fun dishes for our group as it invoked a lot of conversation on familiar flavors and childhood food. This was a top tier dish for us! Drinks: All their drinks are so beautifully plated and the whole restaurant certainly knows how to please their customers' eyes for sure. 1. Chor-Muang - This was a beautiful butterfly pea and peach calpico and had a lot of great flavor! 2. Rei Rai - I love a good yuzu drink and this hit the spot for me. I loved how refreshing it tasted. Made a reservation to come to this cozy place to celebrate a friend's birthday a few weeks ago. The atmosphere is very nice and the decor is cute. The service was excellent and the dishes were amazing!! We love the tiny twist on the shrimp summer rolls, and the crab fried rice is a must try. Drinks look so pretty and were very refreshing. I recently stopped in for a quick dinner and it was perfect! It was pretty packed when I arrived (it's not a huge restaurant), but they were able to seat me immediately without a reservation. The Crispy Pork Belly appetizer was delicious, particularly with the green sauce. The meat was soft and flavorful, and the skin was very crispy. We were pleased to see that there were a good number of vegetarian options since we had someone in our party that preferred that. I was absolutely wowed with their corn fritters. I am from LA and I do not see this on any Thai Menu restaurant. Overall, I may have been really hungry but this is one of those establishments that I could not put my fork down. That is saying a lot since I eat with portion control. The staff were so kind and accommodating as well. They were able to answer all our questions on certain dishes we inquired about.
