Very nice place. Your first impression is the view when you pull up. We had a large table and the service was great. I enjoyed the Alaskan Cod. We also tried the Hamachi Crudo and Shrimp cocktail for appetizer. The cocktails were very good. I was also impressed with the wine list. We will definitely be back. We had a great dinner last night. Glenn was our waiter and took great care of us. Our table order prime rib, Caesar salad's, salads, Poke bowl, lobster bisque, oysters, chard octopus, clam chowder and mushrooms. Everything was great. Do not dine here. Way over priced. No ambience. Just took my wife here for a birthday diner. My prime rib and entire diner was cold. Had to return primer on to kitchen. 20 mins later after wife has finished her meal I was lucky to get my meal which I just then asked for in a box to go as I've had enough of there nonsense. I couldn't get out there fast enough. Timed this for service: "17 minutes" to a refill glass of wine. Terrible service. I thought the waitress went home for the night. I will never ever go back and discourage all my colleagues from ever considering here. Go to Applebees. Faster food, same quality = fast food. Owners and managers need to re-evaluate the product they are providing to the public. Waiters were tripping over trays left in the aisle. There was a knife and dirty napkin on the floor under my table as soon as I sat down. And a cold wet pitcher of water on my table with water all over the table. No offer of a birthday piece of lava cake which I would have paid for. Just no sense of customer service AT ALL!!!!!! Stay away. Don't be fooled. Horrible restaurant. Truly disappointing. Celebrating a big anniversary, and DH asks where I would like to go for dinner. We usually do Ruth's Chris or Mortons but both of us wanted something different. He proposed at a Chart House, so we decided let's go - despite some iffy reviews. First, the restaurant should be ashamed of itself. It's not disabled friendly at all. We get to the entrance and there is a steep spiral staircase. I have mobility issues, so I'm mortified. There's no signage about an elevator or how to get downstairs. No one around to ask. I can tell DH feels badly, and I didn't want him to - it's not his fault. So very slowly and carefully I take the stairs. When we check in at the host stand, DH asks how to get back up later without using the stairs. The two people look at each other and then said we might be able to ask the valet to bring the car to the door at the bottom of the garage and point to another door. We tell them we used a car service (doing the right thing so we're not drinking and driving). They weren't sure if the valet would let a car down or how to handle it. It starts to feel uncomfortable. Embarrassed, I tell DH not to worry, I'll take it slow. We arrive at the table and my regrets start to wash away. The restaurant is lovely, the booth is quiet and intimate, and the view is incredible! Very nice touch to see the menu printed with our anniversary. I'm feeling better and ready to have a romantic meal with the love of my life. We order cocktails, which were amazing. DH was very happy with his margarita and the mango mojito was fantastic. We started with the hamachi appetizer, which was incredible. I could have licked the plate or had 3 more servings! At this point I'm in heaven! But, you know that saying - all good things come to an end. We split the spinach salad, which wasn't dressed properly. The egg and bacon were too finely diced and lost in the spinach. It was very underwhelming. Then the entrees came and they were not great. I had the sea bass, but it was swimming in a super salty broth. DH had the prime rib, which was ridiculously salted. We ordered the mashed potatoes, Cantonese vegetables, and mushrooms as sides. The potatoes were a bit gummy and underseasoned; no hint of garlic despite advertised as such. The mushrooms were incredibly underseasoned. The veg were fairly tasty but the presentation was awful. It looked like a chopped mess, like what you get from a frozen bag of veggies dumped into a plate and microwaved. We ordered the adventurous flight of wine to enjoy during dinner. It came out with 3 glasses and a card like you might get at Chili's. We've done flight tasting at nice restaurants, and usually the server has something to say. Not here. Dismayed, we look to get her attention, and ask, should we try them in a certain order? She suggested any way we want is good. Not the response we were expecting. I can say the wines were lovely. Not sure why they were labeled "adventurous," unless they meant we were getting very little info. When ordering the entrees we asked the server if we needed to order the lava cake immediately, because the menu noted it takes at least 30 minutes. She suggested we do so, that way we won't have to wait as long. So we were excited and waited after the entree plates were cleared. And waited. And waited. We were hoping to order a coffee drink to enjoy with dessert. And with the wait, we might have ordered 2. But service was not happening during the wait. Didn't even get our water glasses filled. While waiting for dessert I visited the ladies room. No hook in the disabled stall, which was dirty. Again, feeling like they don't care about those of us who have mobility issues. Finally the lava cake arrived.... And we are able to order coffee drinks. We start on the lava cake, but there was no lava. The cake was completely overcooked. Yet, the cake wasn't even warm. What a let down! We flag down the server and confirm we ordered the "lava" cake. She didn't seem phased at all, and didn't really seem to care. She did eventually offer to put in another order, and DH asked about the wait. She kind of shrugged and said it'll be a long wait. We were tired, and declined. Overall, this is not the quality we expected, especially at the prices charged. The service was mediocre at best. We were not checked on regularly, the server has no suggestions, couldn't really explain the entrees, etc. Besides the appetizer, the food was disappointing at best. Chart House, Dana Point. What a shame. Bad experience. Went with a group for a celebration. Entire restaurant is horribly understaffed. Employees tried hard although there were varying degrees of expertise in play as well. Two bartenders for the entire restaurant, apparently. Before our dinner, it took 20-30 minutes to get a drink at the bar. After we were seated, we ordered apps. and drinks and it took almost 45 minutes for our drink order to arrive at the table (the apps came after that)... and in the meantime, we were being asked by our server what mains we wanted. Wrong drinks were brought. Wrong mains were brought. What could have been a cohesive 2-hour dinner turned into a 5-hour test-of-patience. Fortunately we all had good attitudes and enjoyed each others' company. BUT, such restaurant operations are abymsal. We came tonight for our anniversary, and we had made a reservation weeks in advance with a request for a window table. When we arrived, the host said it would be a few minutes. Okay, how many, ten? Twenty? He said he couldn't know how long and we said we'd wait in the bar. We finished our drinks and went back to the desk. Looking at the computer, it seems we've been marked as seated. Nope, we're still here. Could you wait over there (out of the way)? Sure. Meanwhile, two parties get seated while we stood there. This happened last time, too. You need to train your people. They didn't know what they were doing, they were clearly in over their heads, and they were not wearing name tags. We left and we will never, ever go back. First, this is one of our favorite resturants, great service, views and food so no complaints. We made a reservation through Open Table for Friday night 6:30 and were on our way when we ran into some traffic. My wife called the and reached a hostess to tell her we would be about 15 minutes late. The hostess said we did not have a reservation and when my wife told here that we had a confirmation she was very rude and told her " I told you you do not have a reservation!). My wife also advised her that we were members of Landry's select club and was there anything that she could do.... The reason we made the reservation was we live in Temecula and it is a long drive to Dana Point. No help so we turned around. I would like to know if making a reservation through Open Table is not reliable and should we instead make reservations directly with the The Chart House?. GO HERE!! The hostess greeted us as soon as we arrived down the stairs and was already aware of our preferred seating request made on Open Table. Shandrea was an outstanding server, so pleasant and helpful! The kitchen gets all the credit for the macadamia encrusted mahi-mani, simply cooked to perfection and served with their signature mango salsa. Truly hard to resist this house specialty or make another choice! The tender coconut fried shrimp dinner was a very generous portion that was just beautifully presented. The valet was super welcoming. Even as he saw us exit the restaurant, he was already on his way to get our car! This historic building and beautiful location has survived decades of weathering and could use a touch of updating, BUT it has gone through immense economic challenges and taste changes that have killed off other restaurants and businesses. Our first time to try this chain was at Dana Point. We had a reservation and were seated promptly. Our waitress was Heather and she was very friendly and gave great advice on what to order. We started with the crunchy coconut shrimp, which was very tasty! We then shared a caesar salad. It was plenty, enough for 2. My husband had a 9 oz filet mignon and I had the swordfish grilled with mango salsa. It came with orzo which was very tasty. There was enough swordfish to share. He asked for a table with a view and we were seated at a lovely outside table with a perfect view of Dana Point harbor and plenty of heaters for the (relatively) chilly evening. The views were some of the best we have seen. We went @ 5 as the sun was setting it was stunning. So many stars to see in the sky once moon was set. Very romantic spot. The prices were very reasonable considering the location we were shocked how inexpensive the bill was. We were seated with a good view, but by a larger table. Once we were seated, our menu and utensils were filthy. We pushed them to the edge and our server replaced them without saying anything, which I appreciated. He was nice, however there was no apology or acknowledgment of how filthy the utensils were? As if this was normal. He got us our drinks promptly, but when I picked up my glass, that was dirty too! Old food on the outside of the glass and who knows what was inside. It was like the dishes got wet but were never washed. I asked for a new glass and told our server the issue. He promptly brought me a new glass, but again no concern or apology? The food was mediocre and way overpriced. We started with the coconut shrimp that was actually really delicious. Probably their best thing there. I ordered the NY Strip + Lobster tail. The lobster wasn't bad, but the steak had a lot of gristle and fat after I cut into it. I didn't want to ask for steak sauce so I asked if I could taste the chimichurri which ended up being butter? Which I was unknowingly charged $3 to TASTE (and it wasn't good). We also got the cucumber zero proof drink. It was okay. It tasted like a less sweet, carbonated Americanized agua Fresca. My husband got the filet mignon, which he did like and finished it. They also gave us ice cream cake for our anniversary which was nice. I probably wouldn't come back here and wouldn't recommend it to anyone I know, especially for a special occasion. The coconut shrimp were amazing, but you can get the same shrimp and steak at Outback Steakhouse for much less... 2 stars because I was really disgusted by the lack of cleanliness for such an expensive place. This is a once a year place we go eat. You must try their lava cake if you like chocolate. Their dinner menu is great if you like seafood or steak. Specialty drinks are pretty good. Make sure you ask what their side veggies are for the night since they change frequently. Services is always great and make sure you make reservations. We have made them the day of. It was nice to find out that they do have a kids menu which I can't find online. My little ones enjoyed the clam chowder and hamburgers. read more

Kevin is a new bartender there and what a wonderful addition he is, from his friendly and engaging personality and his attention to detail and service...he didn't miss a beat! The drinks were so good, he even mixed up something unique after asking me a few questions about what I liked...so good! All the food we ordered, several from the happy hour menu was delicious (I wouldn't order the blackened fish tacos again) but everything else was great!
