Nice atmosphere lends itself to a good meal ahead. EX service from start to finish. Food choices of salmon and Chilean bass were properly prepared. Bread basket was warm and good. Highly recommend the shrimp cocktail which comes to your table smoking from dry ice. Nice touch! Our waitress, Samantha, was top notch and staff assistants were really good too. We've looked at trying Chart House a few times but in reality every time I looked at the reviews it changed our minds. Finally made it there last night and were pleasantly surprised by the food quality. Service was excellent and the atmosphere is beautiful. We ordered the three course meal with prime rib entree, my meat was a bit hard and chewy but my husband's was melt in your mouth tender. For appetizer My husband got the lobster bisque soup and loved it. I got the chopped salad and the dressing was more on the sweet side which I didn't love but still OK. The dessert is the chocolate lava cake and it was delicious. If my prime rib was like my husband's it would have been a 5 star rating. After years of dreaming for their perfect day, here's how my best friends wedding went: - We were given paper umbrellas - The chairs to witness the ceremony were soaked as it continued to rain after they finished the set up - There was no tent/shelter to get out of the rain for standing, eating, or dancing - The patio grass area was extremely uneven, causing mud puddles which I fell in and my knee still hurts - The dance floor was slippery, use was limited until around 7:30pm when it stopped raining and they mopped it (3 people fell) The entire time our family and friends were on site we laughed it off and embraced the weather challenges. Arrived at 6:30 on a Sunday for our reservation and ask for a table outside, which they accommodated. It took a little longer, but we were fine with that. We sat down at our table with a little card that says VIP. But the service did not match that card. It took 20-25 min to get a glass of wine. They were unfortunately out of sole and salmon too. Took another 20-30 min to get crudo appetizer (not cooked) and a cup of soup. Server brought brought bread at the time, but no butter. She said she was gonna get it and then never returned with the butter. Then I took another 20 to 30 minutes to receive our entrées. And the vegetables that was served with the cod was not a side of vegetables, but rather a garnish. When I received my plate, I also asked for another glass of wine, but by the time I got it which was 20 minutes later, I was already done with my meal. So I canceled it.. My husband's halibut was overcooked and got that leathery fish texture. The server was very nice, however, when I asked if she was set up with a big party that was inside (I've worked service so I was trying to be understanding), she said no they were short staffed everywhere. And the bar was backed up because the cocktails take too long. However, it was not jampacked and there were a lot of empty tables. additionally, all the other tables that were around us that was the other servers tables were getting a lot more service that was quicker than us. Our waitress was also working on cleaning tables rather than serving us, even though they had bussers to help out with that. This place has a lot of potential, but the management needs to set up their staff for success. And work more on their service. We normally tip 25 to 30% if not more, but we only left 15%. I wanted to like this place I wanted to return with Associates when I return to town for business next week. However, because of the service I received, I'm hesitant and probably won't. Any review of this restaurant has to start with the view which is by far one of the nicest I've experienced. The Chart House is situated on a cliff several hundred feet above sea level. We were there for dinner August 20,2025. The visibility was unlimited and was alone worth the visit. We sat outside on a beautiful summer evening. Our waiter was a pleasant, professional. The food was pretty good. We started with shrimp avocado and mango stack. It was fine. My wife had sole on fire. Very fresh, crab stuffed sole filets. Yum. I had the spiced ahi tuna which was cooked just right. Very good. Desert was a disappointment. Three little crème brûlée cups. One of the three had a very strong bitter taste. Had reservations at the chart house DP recently. You can't beat the view, just gorgeous. The architecture of the building is beautiful, but I can imagine it could be a little challenging for those with walking issues related to parking and winding stairs. The dinning areas indoors or outside are lovely, and the specialty cocktails were good. I thought our server was lovely. I am giving it 3 stars because of the view, thats where our great expectations went from wow to just very mediocre at best. We ordered the kimchi kalamari, it was a flavorful appetizer, good portion but extremely greasy. Ok, I can overlook that part. Next came our salads, Wedge, Caesar and one other I can't even figure out what it was supposed to be. We each had a different salad and generally enjoy sharing tastes, but I have to say I felt like I had just gotten served something from a fast food joint. They were just not even worth eating. Moving on to the main courses, there was Chilean sea bass over lobster risotto, friends both orderd that. Both were bland and not well seasoned, and there was a massive difference in the portion sizes of fish, one was tiny and the other was appropriate to the dish. Not sure who plated that, it's as if they lost a portion somewhere on the grill or enroute to the table. Obviously didn't check before serving. I had the lobster shrimp pasta with peas and prosciutto in a cream wine type sauce. It was not good. The flavors were completely off, it could have been an interesting dish, I would not recommend it. I'm not sure who's curating the menu, but all I can say is what happened to the good ole chart house menu. I really hope they can take a review and seriously think about putting the love and fresh delightfulness back into the kitchen. Chart House has a great Happy Hour that starts at 4pm and lasts until 6pm M-F. Thankfully, on my latest visit my boyfriend and I showed up right on time and were able to grab one of the few available outdoor tables. The view of the harbor cannot be beat. The server was very attentive and didn't seem disappointed that we only wanted to order a drink. We left after an hour as we weren't ready for dinner or happy hour food and the sun was beating down on us. We were surprised to not see any umbrellas outside given how hot it was. The ambiance was upbeat, and the food was incredibly delicious. We were celebrating my grandma's birthday, and our server Samantha made the night extra special. Friday, march 27th, 2026. An unbelievably spectacular experience!! My boyfriend and I came here to celebrate my 22nd birthday. The view was amazing, with all the boats on the pier (see picture). When we first walked in, we were greeted by the host and were seated earlier than our reservation time (it was surprising considering it was a friday!!) Our server was superrrrrr nice and I cannot stress out how welcoming and friendly he is, I believe his name is Tony!! Shout out to you Tony for making our experience unforgettable!! Staff overall was friendly and super helpful. Parking (for us) was easy luckily, because there was a spot on street right in front of the restaurant when we arrived, so not sure how bad it can be. (There is valet - $8.) Best items: clam chowder soup, crab cake, and hamachi crudo; drinks were fantastic. The sea bass was too salty and the calamari... not a fan. The best part of the calamari plate (other than serving size) was the fried noodles underneath the calamari. The wife, the kid and the sister were geared up and in the mood for King Crab Legs while the sister was in town visiting for Christmas. For two weeks before the sister arrived, I searched for King Crab Legs all over SoCal. Costco, our main source in the past, had something called Golden King Crab that was NOT King Crab, it was a smaller distant cousin from what I could tell. Went to the frozen section where they usually have large, $400 boxes of King Crab. None. Went to every grocery store and found similar or none. Where is all the King Crab?? I got an idea to go to a restaurant to find them and after reviewing many menus, The Chart House was the only one that had King Crab, but it had the ominous and financially fearful "MKT Price". Well, I decided to go for it and made a reservation. So, off we went to seek our King Crab Leg destiny. We arrived early, as we wanted to show the sister the fabulous sunset from the cliff overlooking Dana Harbor. Damn, the sun was setting over the hill behind the restaurant and we did not see a sunset after all. Since it was crowded and we were early, we were told we would have to wait for our table. Off to the bar. Bartender was great and the cocktails were spot on. Thanks James! Soon, a hostess found us and led us to a table. Since it was the Saturday (23rd) before Christmas, the place was packed and we had to weave and bob around tables and people and servers, oh my! Our server, Shandrea, came to us smiling and greeted us. She took our drink orders and an order of the delicious Kim Chee Calamari (don't ask, just get it!). Time to order and I asked about the crab legs. Shandrea said they are served by the pound, how many pounds did we want. I had no idea, so I said a pound each. As she was leaving the table, I realized I never asked what the MKT Price was, so I stopped her. Ninety-five dollars a pound (that's $95!). Well, since it was a celebration and Christmas and since we got a bread basket, butter and some grilled veggies on the side, I said, "let's do it, I still have room on the credit card." The crab came out pretty quickly, considering how crowded the CH was, and it was and it was fantastic. Lots of large, meaty crab legs & claws with melted butter, just what we were hankering for. The kid didn't eat all of hers so I scooped up what she didn't eat. Never did try the veggies! I was in a King Crab Leg coma and I wanted no other food or even dessert. OK, this place is amazing. I don't care about the other reviews. The views of the ocean are breathtaking at 270°. The food is outstanding and you have to get there early if you want to seat with the view if not you can just get up and see it yourself from the bar area or outside of weather permits. Its our 30 yr anniversary & our daughter gave us a very generous gift certificate. We arrived & sat at the bar while waiting for our window seat Sat at bar & waited 10 min for the bartender to acknowledge us as he was right there. The bar isn't that big. How can you fuckup a vodka tonic? 10 min later server came back & let him know it was wrong. Salad came right away & we put our order in. Mike ordered the large cut of prime rib mr & me the 9oz filet mignon mr , mash potatoes & the sautéed mushrooms. Food was brought out & it was COLD & mash potatoes were big clumps.We were trying to flag someone down & nada. The hostess was near by & we asked to see a manger. We told him about the food was cold. This was my first time at Chart House so I will start by saying maybe this was an off night. I had a reservation for two at 7 and we were not sat until 7:35 after being told they were running about 10 minutes behind. Everyone around us also had reservations and they were all waiting for their reserved table as well, not a good sign. We finally get to our table and it took at least 10 minutes for a server to come by. At this point it's almost 8 pm and I am starving! We ordered drinks and put in our food right away as we were worried about long wait times. We were given bread and found a bug in it. We told the server and he apologized. We finally got our food and it was good but not great. The experience we had did not match the price tag of the bill. This was honestly one of the most disappointing dining experiences I've ever had, especially considering it was supposed to be a special night celebrating our anniversary. We made our reservation months in advance and were expecting a nice, memorable evening -- instead, we were seated in the worst possible area, outside in the freezing cold with no heater. It was incredibly uncomfortable and completely took away from what should have been a romantic, relaxing night. Service was extremely slow and inattentive. We waited well over an hour just to be served our first drinks, and throughout the night we barely received any refills. We felt forgotten and unimportant, which was very upsetting given the prices and reputation of this restaurant. On top of that, the staff was not very kind or welcoming, which made the entire experience feel even worse. For a restaurant that is known for being upscale and high-end, the level of care and service we received was unacceptable. Sadly, what should have been a beautiful anniversary dinner turned into a stressful and disappointing night.
