I have always really liked the Chart House. I've always felt it has the best ambiance of any place in Jacksonville. The service is usually very good, most servers are attentive and helpful. The food used to be reliably good and Chart House was a favorite for special occasions but lately the food and service are hit and miss. I don't get as excited as I used to. I've always had fantastic experiences at Chart House but this specific location was a total miss. When we got there, it was half empty and every table had dirty dishes and glassware. We sat at the bar, and though the bartenders did the best they could, the wait time for food was atrocious. We were there for over 2 hours and then eventually had to take our desert to go. Went last night before symphony show. It's convenient to access downtown quickly. We were there before 6pm bc of performance start. They have an early dining menu which they don't give you unless asked. I had the Parmesan crusted snapper and husband had 8 oz prime rib. Mine $28 and his $32. You get a cup of soup or salad to start - both large portions, entree and choice of 3 desserts. All portions very generous. Service excellent. Beautiful view of the river and downtown. It's a hell of a deal really can't see how they make any money on it. read more

The waitress said she could honor both coupons so we ordered an appetizer and a dessert. We had our appetizer, entrees and dessert and then received the bill. Only the appetizer was comped and not the dessert. The manager said we could only use one and took off the least expensive one. They should have told us when ordering they would only honor one. We had been sitting for awhile before we saw him or got water. Then once he came over when we finally had to ask for water refills. It took asking 3 times and waited for water! Been in Jax for 5 years and this is the first time we had been. Sorry we waited so long. Had 7:30 reservations arrived about 10mins early and were seated promptly. Ordered the calamari appetizer. Came out quick and was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Seabass, my wife ordered the fillet. Seabass was cooked perfectly and had a ton of flavor. My wife's fillet was slightly overcooked, but flavor was perfect. Chocolate lava cake stole the show! We were seated by a window and was a little chilly however all and all a great experience. Upon arrival we were greeted at the door by the host. We arrived 30 minutes early because we knew it was going to be a busy weekend. I went to the bar upon check in to wait for our table. The rice was cooked perfectly and the pineapple habanero sauce that was on the plate was a perfect dish addition and it wasn't spicy. Mango chutney was good but you shouldn't hv to pay extra for it. We had a large table that received amazing service and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a good evening with recommendations. We all started off with drinks and about a million questions about the menu, that the server did an amazing job answering and helping us decide what to get. They started us with some complimentary bread and better, then to the salad buffet which was better than I expected! I ended up with the dock to dine grouper with citrus garlic butter that was perfectly cooked and full of flavor! The service was also top tier. The hostess sat us at the cutest two person booth overlooking the river and our server checked on us the perfect amount. My only issue is the age of the restaurant shows in the upholstery and it had a sort of smell. A party of 9 with reservation, restaurant not full (Thursday night) and it took nearly 2 hours for our food to come out. Everyone was too polite to return dishes to the kitchen as this was a business outing and who knows how long it would have taken to come back. You could see nearly all the plates had dried sauce/ looked like they had been under a heat lamp for a long time and then were barely warm at service. My grouper had a gummy-texture center and yet the outside was overdone and dry. The view is nice and the interior is unique (but smells like the carpets need to be taken up). Unfortunately the food is not just unimpressive but also barely edible. Do yourself a favor and go someplace else. I will not be going back. read more

Can't beat the River view from the fabulous window seating, but there's really not a bad seat in the house as you can see the water from every table. We enjoyed lobster bisque and chopped salads as our starters. The bisque was topped with a sprinkling of shredded lobster; it was velvety and tasty, if on the slightly salty side - but that makes it a great soup for dipping bread in. Speaking of bread, the complimentary bread basket is not brought out automatically, but rather offered at the start of your meal (so that carb conscious and/or gluten-sensitive diners can decline). There's something for everyone: hearty white rolls, medium brown cracked wheat rolls, and seeded crackers. Next were the entrees: prime rib with au jus and silky mashed potatoes (part of the $55 prix fixe menu), coconut shrimp with mango salsa sticky rice. Solid dishes, both cooked perfectly, though something to keep in mind: some cuts of the prime rib have more gristle than others. For dessert, we all opted for the individual lava cakes (this is the dessert offered on the prix fixe menu and their most popular dish on the dessert menu). It comes a La mode with vanilla ice cream; or you can ask about seasonal house made ice cream flavors, as I did. I selected strawberry, which was a great pairing with the rich, dark chocolate of the lava cake. It was intensely bright pink, so made for a visually striking presentation as well. Since it was my birthday, I also received a complimentary slice of the house mud pie ice box cake. This consisted of a mild mocha nut ice cream crusted with crushed dark chocolate cookie crumbles, enrobed in gloriously thick chocolate fudge ganache, and finished with fresh whipped cream.
