Unfortunately, my recent visit was disappointing. While the restaurant was spotless and the staff was friendly and accommodating, the food did not live up to the Ruth's Chris standard I've come to expect and the amount of time we had to wait when we ordered a drink was unacceptable. We were a party of 12 celebrating a birthday, and several people in our group had issues with their meals. One person's food had to be sent back because it was cold. Another felt the fish did not taste fresh. Two of the steaks that were ordered medium arrived well done and had to be replaced. In all the years I've dined at Ruth's Chris, I've never experienced steaks being cooked incorrectly--they were always prepared to perfection. Another thing we noticed was that the portion sizes seem to have become smaller. For a restaurant known as an upscale, premium dining experience, I expected the same level of quality and consistency that made it one of my favorite restaurants. I'm not sure if there have been changes in ownership or the kitchen staff, but the experience simply wasn't what it used to be. Girl, hold my 9oz glass of wine Ruth C charges $30 for a brand that Publix sells for $11 a bottle My friends and I had an 8:15pm reservation and all arrived by 8pm. We didn't get seated until after 9pm. No updates unless we went to the front counter and asked, no apology -- just standing around in our nice outfits taking lobby pictures because what else do you do after ordering 2 rounds of drinks at the bar?! They sat our group of ten at a table meant for eight, so we were basically elbowing each other all night. Service felt scattered with multiple servers, no real guidance or options, and long waits for everything. Our appetizers came out room temp and arrived with the entrées instead of before. The sides (mashed potatoes, creamed spinach) were also lukewarm. We ate it anyway because at that point the night was already dragging. Desserts -- which were supposed to come with our entrées -- took 40+ minutes after we paid. Those were all ordered with our entrees, all the same dessert as well. Still no apology for anything: the seating delay, the cold food, the wait times... nothing. After dessert arrived, I overheard the waiter say you could have ordered a different dessert for $5 extra dollars?! Where was that option at order time bc I would have gladly paid for something else. I haven't been to Ruth's Chris (downtown) in about a decade, and after this experience, I won't be going back. Our whole group left disappointed, tired, and heading straight home instead of grabbing the one drink we'd planned after dinner. Nights like this are exactly why I choose local small businesses over chains. This was not it. Our entire party of 10 left extremely disappointed. None of us live near the restaurant either - this was a middle ground for everyone. Awww Ruth Chris did it up really lovely for us last night :) Made last minute reservations and noted it was our anniversary. From the minute we entered we were greeted and immediately told Happy Anniversary, then a the night went on were probably told Happy Anniversary about 12 times.... lol! Stopped by for a birthday burger for happy hour. I ended up getting a quick margarita and a burger to kick off my birthday celebration. As usual the service is always great here. The establishment is a fine dining space perfect for celebrating or formal dinners. My burger was pretty good. Tasty and well made, it was good but not the best. I also ordered crispy calamari which was great. My margarita was the highlight. It was perfectly made and really hit the spot. Normally, I opt for steak here but today was simple. We had dinner at Ruth's Chris and I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised by how amazing the food was. I ordered the 6oz filet with a lobster tail, and the chef deshelled it beautifully. My husband had the 8oz filet, and both steaks were cooked perfectly. We shared the mashed potatoes and the lobster mac and cheese, which was phenomenal. I also started with the French onion soup, and it was delicious. Overall, the food really exceeded my expectations. Service was another highlight. The host was super friendly, and our waitress was amazing, attentive, warm, and kind. My only real hesitation, and the reason for the 4 stars, is the atmosphere. The restaurant itself feels outdated, and being located inside the DoubleTree near the banquet rooms takes away from the upscale dining experience Ruth's Chris is known for. The river view is lovely, but the hotel and restaurant both feel like they've gone downhill over the years. I really hope that if a new riverfront hotel ever comes to the area, Ruth's Chris considers moving into a fresher, more elevated space, because the food and service absolutely deserve that backdrop. We had one of the best experiences here! The view was amazing as it's right on the river. We started off with an order of the seared ahi tuna which was so flavorful and tender. We also had a brown butter old fashioned and a blueberry mojito both of which were fantastic and strong. For dinner we each got the Ruth's 3 Course for $60. My husband got the Caesar salad, filet & shrimp, roasted Brussels sprouts and a classic cheesecake. I got the French onion soup, the filet & shrimp, garlic mashed potatoes and the chocolate cheesecake. First time at this establishment. We went outside on the rooftop bar area to have the Happy hour drinks and wait for our table to be prepared for a party of 11. Once at the table things went well as for drinks and taking orders. Some things should be made clear about some of the dishes, like the Caesar salad comes with an extreme amount of Parmesan cheese. That was a problem for one of the guest and I ordered extra on the side thinking there wouldn't be much on it, but I never even used the extra. We ordered the 3 course for $60 and it was so worth it for the amount of food. My problem was I ordered the salmon that wasn't cooked through in the center, when I brought this to the server's attention I was told they only cook it to a medium rare. I can see with steak that shouldn't apply to fish. Another problem was a burger wasn't cooked to the person request.Even with that issue the service and food was really good. Everyone else ordered the steak and shrimp, they said it was flavorful and cooked to perfection. Went to Ruth Chris in Jacksonville Florida for the first time. Server was excellent. However the steak was not good. I ordered a filet and the plate they brought it out was so warm it continued to cook the steak. By the time I was able to eat half of it now that it had the consistency of shoe leather. My husband and I went to Ruth Chris for our 5th anniversary and truly enjoyed our dinner date. They started us off with French baguette and butter to start. My husband ordered an old fashion while I chose the blueberry mojito (which was very light, refreshing and smooth). My husband ordered the filet with truffle and au gratin and asparagus as his two sides. Keep in mind everything is a la carte. I ordered a 3 for 1 which included an appetizer (steak salad, cesar salad or lobster bisque), an entre of filet/filet and shrimp/filet and lobster, you can choose one side either spinach extreme or mash potato and then a dessert, personalized chef choice which was a cheesecake. I ordered the filet which came out to about $51 for all 3 items which did not make it a la carte but I did order that my steak be doused in truffle and ordered a side a la carte mushrooms. Everything was absolutely delicious and made to perfection. My husband and I could not have asked for a better experience. Our server's name was Ian and he made a ton of recommendations that were spot on. Great service. The view and location is amazing smack down in the middle of downtown. Whom ever had drinks make by Kim, Scott, or Kevin make sure you take some extra elderberry, vitamin C or something that helps your immune system as each one of them touch either their hair, wiped their nose with their hand touched everything but a glove, soap or hand sanitizer before they touched and placed the garnishment that went into your drink even if you didn't eat it the fact that their whole hand touched something that went inside your drink is . And I do mean bare hand touch. I believe Scott was the worse and I could have Kevin and Scott mixed up but I do believe Scott blonde hair no glasses the other guy Kevin is heavy set with dark hair and glasses. But Scott I seen him wipe his nose about 50 times with his bare hand and not once wash his hands, he even attempted to kill a fly with his bare hands. He even took the bar towel that is used to wipe the counters and wipe down his uniform and above all else he added garnish to about 4-6 drinks and made a pitcher of water all without ever washing his hands. Even my server/bartender keeps having to run his hair back with his hands BUT he used gloves when needed and NEVER bare hand touch the drinks. With that said I had 2 pomegranate martinis and the steak sandwich medium well EXCELLENT. Drinks food Excellent but I'm glad I paid with a gift card and I'm glad I sat at the bar. But I'm afraid to go back due what I saw from the staff makes me wonder how the kitchen handles things. Might come back for happy hour drinks not the food. I have not been to Ruth's Chris since my birthday a couple of years ago. Not a great experience then. Way overcooked Cowboy Ribeye and this after I told the waiter I wanted to take my first bite at 130 degrees, for which he complimented me. I also commented on a then ongoing problem, namely, for a high end place that made me feel good to have to dress up a little, you could go into a sauna room and walk right into the restaurant. The "dress code" was a joke. I am writing this now to pat Ruth's Chris on the back because it finally figured out the Emperor really is naked. It was making believe it was being hip and cool by allowing the bum look to be the official dress code for Ruth's Chris. Now they are standing ground--and we will see if it is real-- on the original dress code and at least eliminating baseball caps in the restaurant. And I can't believe it is "causing a stir" on the Net, as if anyone with his own mind should give a damn about what the Internet thinks. I loved going to RC in its early days here in Jax and having to dress up a little because it was a special night. It makes the whole experience better. Sad that the "times " and being "with the times" is the equivalent of looking like you just slid into second base. Good job RC, and it makes me want to make reservations to get back there. Super romantic restaurant on the river with great views from almost everywhere. Wonderful seating choices from booths to tables. Lots of tables on the windows to see the gorgeous bridge downtown as well as dolphins surfing through the water. I have been here a number of times and have never been disappointed and it is one of my favorite places to dine in Jacksonville. Not only because the ambience is wonderful, but the wait staff is professional with great attention to detail. This is a great place to celebrate anything or just to come for a wonderful romantic evening. The menu is fantastic with great choices. There is a nice bar for cocktails. The food is amazing! It is dark enough to go there even before sunset and enjoy the beautiful view. But especially romantic after dark when you can see downtown lit up. You may park right in front of the restaurant so it is very convenient. Walk through the front doors of the hotel and go straight back and you will see the restaurant entrance. Make sure you make your reservations on OpenTable. It's a great place to see the fireworks as well. There's a great wine list to choose a perfect bottle from and a full bar. Steaks, seafood, whatever your heart desires is here. You will not leave hungry, and you will most likely leave with a to go box. Treat yourself and make it an evening! Had dinner there Monday, the ribeye was perfection and the bread pudding was amazing.

Ok first it was Easter but we arrived at 1145 with our reso. We were seated promptly and greeted. The service was great. Never wanted for anything they go all out special items and were quick. The food was ok , but not something to bring me back. 4 out of 6 steaks over cooked and the one who wanted well done theirs was undercooked. The rest of us finished eating before she even got her steak. My suggestion is they should always ask to butterfly a filet. The sides were very good all was hot and yummy there. The Mac and cheese was ok but nothing to write home about the apps were delish especially the spin dip. Very good. I think they should do a special tho or something for Easter. They open early and only dinner offered. The manager did come and talk to us and apologize but the undercooked steak got brought out 2 more times still under. Ehh can't win them all. read more

Hubby and I celebrated our 13th dating anniversary at Ruth's Chris a few months ago. We had the best time and were treated so well for our special occasion. We arrived and checked in with the hostess, within minutes we were shown to our table. It was decorated with a happy anniversary card and confetti. I absolutely loved this gesture! We each started with an Old Fashioned and ordered a steak house salad to share. They divided the salad into two bowls for us. The salad was simple and very tasty with their house vinaigrette. Garlic croutons were amazing. The bread basket was served along with the salad. It was fresh, crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, so yummy with the soft, salted butter. For dinner we both ordered the filet, he went with the 11 oz and mine was the 8 oz petite filet. We shared a 1lb baked potato that they also split for us. The filets were exquisite! They were so tender, juicy and flavorful with a stellar sear! The baked potato was done very well, delicious with all the toppings - butter, sour cream, shredded cheddar cheese and housemade bacon bits. For dessert, we shared the cheesecake. They decorated the plate with a cute happy anniversary message. The cheesecake was delicious! Creamy, delightfully sweet, hint of tanginess with an incredible crust. My family and I love going to Ruth Chris for dinner and special occasions, and this occasion just happened to be my mom's birthday. Making a reservation is pretty easy and when calling to confirm I informed them of the celebration. We set the time for 6:15p but arrived around 5:45p and were sat pretty quickly in the main dining room. We had a beautiful view of the river and the bridge. We even saw a group of dolphins frockling around. For our table, it was decorated super cute with happy birthday confetti and a card from the restaurant. My mom was very happy and surprised. We decided to order immediately - for appetizers, we ordered our favorites - the calamari and crab cakes. The calamari is lightly fried and tossed in sweet & spicy chili sauce with bell peppers. The calamari here is always on point as it's chewy, fresh, with a crunch from it being lightly fried. The sweetness of the chilli sauce is not overly sweet. The crab cakes here are completely lump crab meat, not tons of breading like most places. They're covered in a lemon butter sauce, leaving the crabcake to just melt into your mouth. For our dinners, I ordered from prix fixe special menu which includes salad or soup, entree, side, and a dessert (chef's choice). I chose the house salad which was fresh and light and tossed in the house vinaigrette. For my entree, I went with the surf and turf, a 6oz filet with a lobster tail. The filet was cooked perfectly (medium temperature) and so buttery. Ruth Chris has quality steaks and cuts. My lobster was fresh and a good sized portion. The hot butter and lemon I drizzled and dipped the lobster into, sent me to another dimension. For my side, I ordered the garlic mashed potatoes which are ok, I wish they had more garlic or seasoning in them. To end my dining experience, the chef's selection for dessert was the cheesecake. It was a small personal portion that came with a fruit drizzle over fresh berries and mint. It was the perfect way to end my night. Everything was so good, even my Cabernet which was from the brand 65 & Broad and complimented my steak very well.
