FIRST! I MUST say... if you are prone to motion sickness either take some Dramamine or eat at the bar which is stationary. My husband and I tried Chart House at Tower of the Americas for our anniversary. The customer service and ambiance were impeccable. Our server José was very patient, kind and accommodating. The manager was very nice and talked to me while I was trying to capture pictures of the sunset. Bring sunglasses if you go to catch the sunset because the sun will be in your eyes periodically as you rotate on the platform. We LOVED being able to experience the 360 degree view of San Antonio, but we both felt the motion sickness as soon as we arrived at our table (I felt it much more than he did). The platform makes one full rotation in roughly an hour, maybe less... I think I'd prefer half that speed, but now that I know, I can plan better for our next visit. The appetizers were the best part of our meal. We got the calamari (maybe best we've ever had) and the ahi tuna. It appears that we chose the wrong time to visit because the only option for entrees was a 3 course meal for $79 a person and the options seemed limited. I'm little so usually I just eat an appetizer as my meal, but since it seemed customary, I tried to keep up with all of the courses. My husband got the Caesar salad to start and said it was great. I got lobster bisque which was delicious. Then, for the 2nd course, I got the twin lobster tails with veggies and my husband got the Chilean sea bass over lobster risotto. The meals were ok (I think his may have been better than mine), but nowhere near as good as the appetizers. I wasn't blown away by my veggies due to a lack of seasoning and an earthy grit, BUT I was so full and didn't think to smother them with the melted butter--- that'll probably improve them. I'd like to go back when there is a normal menu with more flexibility and options, and when I won't have to order a starter and dessert on top of the entree and any other appetizers we decide to share. The drinks were great! I got the pomegranate martini and my husband got a bright ale (?) like an ipa (?). We are in San Antonio with another couple for 5 nights. Our rental apartment is literally across the street of Chart House. The restaurant is high atop the Tower of the Americas. Getting to the restaurant on the single working elevator was an ordeal that I have already described in a previous review. While that experience was frustrating, when the elevator door opened we were greeted with a magnificent night view of San Antonio. It was breathtaking. We were seated promptly at a table right next to the windows. The views are spectacular. Our server was excellent. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We were happy with the menu choices and several of us settled on the price fixe $55 meal. I chose the 10oz Prime Rib, Chopped Salad with balsamic vinegar dressing and mashed potatoes. The meat was cooked to my medium rare preference. The prime rib was not very tender though and my jaws got a good workout chewing through it. The mashed potatoes were perfect and it was a good but not exceptional meal. I felt that prices were extremely reasonable particularly considering the setting. I felt like it was a good value. I was a bit miffed that they charge an additional $12 per person to go to the observation deck level even though we dined at Chart House. This was a birthday celebration meal for me and my meal included a mini lava cake but the waitress also presented me with a dish of ice cream with birthday candle in it. A very nice gesture. We had a lovely meal, a relaxing experience and enjoyed amazing views. One tip is if you are sensitive to the motion of the rotating restaurant (roughly 50 minutes per revolution) sit so you facing the direction of movement. read more

If I could place a zero star on this place I would. The meats were over cooked, but we ended up waiting over 20 minutes for the recook for a rare to medium rare pieces of meat. This place has gone down hill for the past three years, today tops it that we will NOT come here any more. This is not to say that the service has gone down hill, so very slow. So sad! read more

There's something to be said when you're sitting 750 ft up, rotating around a single pillar, what's more is you get to eat while doing so! Obviously the experience starts out as "elevated" however will the dining experience of Chart House equal the few? Let's find out shall we? The parking is plentiful around Chart House and it's in a safe part of town, close to the Spurs stadium and river walk. As I waited on the elevator, I thought to myself if I had too many cocktails this would be brutal as I waited for 10 minutes. That said, I have a few minutes until my reservation so my date and I stopped at the bar for a round. The bar is perched above the dining area in a mahogany wood nest area. The hostess then led us to our table which was right against the window. Public service announcement to not leave your drink on the ledge or you won't see it for 30 minutes which is roughly the time it takes to do a 360. I hate starting out like this buy my waiter wasn't very good. I suppose part of the issue is that I'm a former chef so I know items are so when I inquired to the server "out of curiosity what is the kim chee calamari?" He boldly responded it was a sauce oblivious to the fact kim chee is traditional Korean fermented cabbage. That said, I sent him away to grab two glasses of wine. He returned with a pinot grigio even though I ordered a pinot noir and the calamari app, that I was inquiring about but never ordered. Enough about my less than stellar waiter, let me focus on the food. After the wine caper, I enjoyed the Erath Pinot Noir as a decent medium bodied red. It had a nose of black cherry that rolls of the palate quickly and hints of herbs. As for the app, I loved the coconut shrimp. 8 perfectly cooked shrimp studded with coconut burst in the mouth with three sauces to chose from. I found the coconut sauce bland and redundant but the citrus chili offered a small nudge of heat to compliment the sweet and the soy ginger sauce gave it a nice salt kick. As for the Caesar salad I was extremely let down. The dressing had zero pop as I don't believe it had anchovies in it and lacked parmesan shavings. It literally had no elevated elements to redeem the experience. The main course, changed courses if you pardon the pun. The broccolini and fingerling potatoes were crisp yet perfectly cooking and had just the right amount of butter along with S&P. The salmon had the perfect among of cedar flavor coming up from the grilled plank while the teriyaki glaze kept it moist as it was cooked to perfection. I got the rare prime rib and I'm here to tell you if I didn't have a date I would have fell in love. The 10 oz were perfectly cooked and had plenty of fat marbled throughout the meat accompanied by wonderful jus and horseradish sauces that I alternated dunking. The rustic style mashed spuds were good but I prefer whipped with no skins. Still the flavor and execution were near perfect. As for the chocolate lava cake, I honestly can't say b/c without being hyperbolic my better half destroyed it before I had a single bite, literally. Later in the evening I inquired about the experience and she admitted it was phenomenal. There's a lesson out there, fight for that bite! Overall I enjoyed my experience at Chart House. While the service was off and the salad was pedestrian, the view and the rest of the menu items shined as the morning sun. Chart house can be best described as an "elevated" experience yet grounded when going against those with high expectations. For the most part the price is on point so I would strongly suggest trying this place out when in San Antonio. read more

There were so many things wrong with this trip to Chart House that it reminded me why it's been a while since our last visit. Service: The restaurant was very slow (took 2 1/2 hours for lunch on a non-busy day for a small table), we were constantly out of drinks and the waitstaff made multiple mistakes including bringing the wrong meal and forgetting our table was there, more than once. Food: It seemed like they shop in the HEB ready made meals department as the food was no better than something I can take and bake in less time. Honestly, everything was no better than any cheapish chain restaurant like Chilis or Applebees. Ambience: The tower floor wasn't rotating which is half the point of the restaurant. The AC wasn't working well so it was hot. And the staff just seemed super annoyed by having to be there instead of pretending to be happy to assist. Last note: You now have to pay an additional $15 per person to visit the observation deck after your meal instead of it being included. With the cost of the restaurant, that should be an automatic, like it used to be. Overall, super disappointing to have such a bad experience at one of the city's "premier destinations." read more

I am not sure how serious you take customer comments since my MIL already sent one, I have been deciding whether or not to bother because I will not be back to this establishment. First when we checked in we found out that the restaurant wasn't rotating, we had a pre fix menu and the blitz and bits sign big as day wasn't being offered on this day-all this before we even hit the restaurant. This was father's day and supposed to be special, but it was the low point. When we checked in I told them of my sodium allergy. When we were seated the manager (short dark hair and glasses) came over and we determined that I could get the salad dry and fresh fish with only olive oil and grilled veggies. Our reservation was at noon-we didn't get our food until 2.5 hours later! The salad was fine, but the salmon I was supposed to eat was over salted and I had to trade with my daughter who also mentioned the over salting of the fish. I didn't get veggies, I got the couscous covered in butter. We had the conversation about the food in front of the server (who also never gave his name) and not sure what was on the ticket, but after 2.5 hours of waiting we were hungry. Many tables received their food before us (sat after us) and I thought it was because of my changes, clearly not it. Never once did the manger check on us or our food to make sure everything was okay although we saw her check on tables around us. After spending over $400 I expect better service and food. We could have gone to Chuy's who makes my meal so I can eat it. I saw the manager and told her I was disappointed and she seemed she could not be bothered. She apologized, but it was just lip service-no heart or emotion behind it. Then she said she would put on my reservation a free app or dessert (neither of which I can have) and that is how tone deaf she was. I said I could not have those and she was already off to the hostess stand up front. We had other plans for father's day and we had to cancel because the food took so long. You would think that a pre fix menu (which was ridiculous) would be quicker to make. I am so disappointed and I don't plan on returning, but thought you and other readers needed to know. The view is nice... However. The service is horrible. Had to be asking multiple times for my drink which mind you was only a regular coke & water refills. The food took forever one if the salads was not brought till after the did had arrived which we sent back. It was a large party but still it was very delayed and it was not busy at all. After our portion of the ticket came, had to walk to the front and had the hostess get someone to close it out so we can leave. Spent alot of time just waiting for ticket or refills on our drinks. Great view of San Antonio beautiful interior. Wait time was not bad at all. We had a reservation at 9:45 and came at ten and they still accommodated us so props to them. The elevator ride up is pretty cool not a great view going up but cool nonetheless. Food is pretty great got the New England clam chowder and the half clams but I hate when I'm dining with someone and only one of us gets their food while the other one takes ten min to get theirs. Am I supposed to eat while the other watches or just let my food get cold. So a con. The entrees I got the swordfish and it was to die for. My spouse got the crispy coconut shrimp food overall was delicious. Wait times are a little long but I can always forgive if the food is great. Drinks were great as well. The thing about chart house is the view and it simply doesn't disappoint. My only gripe is I started getting motion sickness so I had a headache and felt nauseous the whole time which sucked but not their fault. The elevator down there is a wait time like about fifteen minutes a little annoying but understandable. Chart House sits perched atop the Tower of the Americas where you will take a scenic elevator ride 750 ft up to then be greeted with 360 rotating views of downtown San Antonio and the Riverwalk! My husband and I started with the Kim Chee Calamari and then both enjoyed the Herb Crusted + Slow Roasted Prime Rib! Very tasty! The Lobster Bisque was divine! Highlights were the ever-changing, captivating views and the table-side cocktails! The Infused & Fogged cocktail was delicious and fun to watch! Only criticism I had was that the servers started their closing duties well before the restaurant closed while there were still many patrons, to include vacuuming around guests. I served for a few years in my college years and I get wanting to leave ASAP, but vacuuming around customers is crossing a line, especially when the customers are dropping $100+ per person. Our thought was that we would grab a drink at the bar before dinner and maybe go up to the observation deck. We were told that we couldn't go up to the restaurant until 7:45. At 7:30, 6 of us were allowed to go up. When we arrived at the restaurant the bar area was completely empty. Two bartenders were standing there with nothing to do. The rest of our party arrived 15 minutes later. The food was terrible. Two of us sent our steaks back because they were inedible. The waitstaff were very nice as was the manager. Thick piece, was not excited about the presentation. It was grey in color which wasn't appealing. I knew better than to take a knife to it and try and cut like a steak. I pulled it apart in thin strips. It was rare as requested. It had the silvery sinew thru it. Should have been served filleted with that removed. It did have a good flavor. Solid 3 experience. Dined in for SA restaurant week and when we got seated, we noticed we weren't given a restaurant week menu which is usually the case at participating restaurants. No big deal though, we asked the server and he gave it to us right away. For my three courses ($50), I ordered the clam chowder, chimichurri steak frites, and lava cake with ice cream. Everything tasted just ok, I wasn't blown away and definitely would've been disappointed had I been ordering off the regular dinner menu. The clam chowder was good, but all 3 of us at our table noticed it was served lukewarm. My steak was cooked properly and the chimichurri was great but my fries literally could've been Whataburger fries (no complaints, I love whatab fries) but again, probably would've been disappointed had it not been restaurant week prices. The chocolate lava cake was good, but not as hot as I would have hoped. Service was efficient, though not terribly friendly. All in all, I probably wouldn't dine here again and would encourage you to spend your money at one of the other many fine restaurants in San Antonio! read more

Wow!! What an experience! My husband and I love visiting San Antonio and exploring the city. We've always talked about going to the Tower of the Americas, but for one reason or another, we just never made the time--until our last trip! We finally made a reservation, and I have to say, it was such a neat experience! Our waitress, Sarah, was incredibly sweet and patient with us. We kept getting distracted by the breathtaking views and took our time ordering drinks and food, but she never rushed us. I started with the pomegranate mojito, which was absolutely delicious! My husband had a whiskey drink with chocolate (still not sure what it was, but he loved it!) and later tried a sealed whiskey--which he also really enjoyed. For appetizers, he had the lobster bisque, and I went with the spinach salad. Both were very good! When it came to entrées, he ordered the shrimp carbonara with extra sauce, and wow--it was amazing! I was a little hesitant about getting the ribeye after reading some mixed reviews about the steaks, but I'm SO glad I went for it. It was perfect! I added the mushroom truffle butter, and it took the flavor to another level. Overall, this was such a memorable experience, and I'm so glad we finally made the time to visit. My husband and I came here for dinner to celebrate our anniversary. He made reservations, and the timeline to see the sunset was pretty amazing. The food was terrific, the service was excellent, and the view and weather was even better. We decided on going with the chart your course, which was a three-course meal. For the first course, we had a choice of either a cup of lobster bisque soup, caesar salad, or a chopped salad-- we both chose the lobster bisque, which was delicious. For the second course, we had a choice of either a 10 oz prime rib, miso maple glazed salmon, or a savory shrimp pasta. I got the miso maple glazed salmon with a side of green beans, and my husband got the 10 oz prime rib with a side of sautéed mushrooms and mashed potatoes, and both were delicious. And for the mini lava cake dessert that came with it, man, was it tasty. I would go back in a heartbeat for it. There's a $20 parking fee. My wife and I had reservations for the chart house on Friday at 3:15. They were able to accommodate us at moving it to 5 PM last minute, which was very accommodating the dining area which is the feature was rotating as we were being seated. Many guests were being seated at that time this year's menu was hands-down, a better alternative than last year more choices. Each guest was able to choose their own selection for appetizers, entrées, and desserts. My wife had the surf and turf, which was a 7 ounce steak and petite lobster tail, which was delicious as she shared it with me. She also had the lobster bisque I had the salmon and crabcake which was made to perfection. Salmon was very savory. We finished it off with red velvet cake and ice cream topping. Music was being played in the background, but you can still hold it. Private conversation with your party at the table as the sun went down, servers went around to each table and turned on the little table lamp to set the ambience. We had a wonderful time there enjoying our anniversary and Valentine's Day celebration. They were also taking pictures for all who entered the tower. Then, we stayed for over an hour past HH enjoying beverages. The views here are amazing! There can't be any other restaurant in San Antonio that this one can be compared to. The food was delicious. An iconic restaurant with incomparable views and okay food. We came here to celebrate our anniversary with an early Friday night reservation. Instead of parking in the official Tower parking lot, we opted for public parking lot near the tower of Americas lot ($5/hr). Happy hour prices are only available in the bar so our server let one of us go fetch HH drinks. I loved my Moscato Sangria - sweet and fruity. We had the kimchee calamari and coconut shrimp for appetizers. The calamari was the best thing we ate! The breading had a hint of onion so it was reminiscent of eating Funyuns covered in a sweet and spicy sauce. There wasn't much similar to kimchee but I can appreciate the alliteration. Coconut shrimp was beautifully butterflied but the shrimp were mushy. My husband got the chart course, with a chopped salad, prime rib & mashed potatoes, and lava cake. The mashed potatoes were cold and the prime rib had a significant amount of fat. It was a bit disappointing after a delicious start, but our server took it off the bill. I got the king salmon with beet risotto and salad. The salmon was seared but unseasoned, easily fixed with the provided salt and pepper grinders. The risotto and salad were very flavorful, although the risotto was congealed. The lava cake at the end looked beautiful , with a scoop of ice cream and healthy scattering of toffee bits. However there was no molten lava center and we found it was closer to a dry brownie than a lava cake. It's strange because there is a disclaimer that the cake needs 30 minutes to cook, so I'm not sure if it's sitting around waiting to be served or if it's just overcooked. It was a tasty dessert but should be either renamed or be less baked to preserve it's molten middle. Overall it seems like a lot of their food isn't fresh and sits under heating lamps (risotto, mashed potatoes) but it's a nice ambience and a treat to see all of San Antonio below. I've eaten here twice, first time was a date night for Mother's Day. We had such a good time we planned our 10 year anniversary event here for a private room. I definitely would recommend it. The food was good, but not great. I don't think you should go here just for food. I had sea bass, which was tender and well-seasoned. For dessert, I had a crème brûlée sampler, which was lovely. The service was attentive and kind but very leisurely. We were there for 2 1/2 hours. I recommend this for a touristy night out when food is not central to your agenda. read more

We were visiting the area for our anniversary and I decided that this place sounded like a good idea. First the view of the city was pretty good, probably would have looked better after dark. However it was booked for the late evening hours just as you would expect. The decor seemed original to day it was built with the wood paneling walls and black and white photos. The food well we ordered the chefs special which was Mahi and I'm guessing the Chef was old with food allergies. The food had absolutely flavorless and tasted like water and the shrimp well it was like 2 pieces of rubber it was so over cooked. Now the mashed potatoes were really good or maybe they just had some flavor. The crap and shrimp fondue was pretty good too. The service wasn't anything to blow you away but they did bring your food and drink so that's a positive. I would chalk this up with any tourist attraction. The food is poor, service mediocre and the prices are high for the quality of food. Chart House Bar has sustained a record well below the bar again. My wife and I have tried to enjoy Chart House several times for many years. Our first experience many years ago was such a great night, great service and great food. But this has not been our experience since. Forget about the food. For an upscaled, pricey restaurant, it fails in all categories. We've tried to return several times but the service is as bad as any we've encountered. We will go to happy hour once in a great while if our out of town guests want to see the view, but the service has been wee below the bar. We won't waste anymore $$$ on the food . Way below the bar. My family and I went here for my day-before-my birthday dinner. It had been ages since I'd been here because the thought of parking always dissuaded me. Parking was a problem, but we did find a lot not too far away with a reasonable price. I had the herbed chicken with fingerling potatoes and it was quite tasty. My husband had steak and mashed potatoes and said it was very good. We had bread as an appetizer and it was okay. The portions are small and the prices are a little on the high side, but the ambiance and the 360 rotating view were what I came for as part of my celebrate-all-month birthday ritual, and I was not disappointed. Food - Bread was not fresh - first basket was not even warm, 2nd basket was warm but still not fresh out of the oven. The maple glazed quail appetizer was delicious! The crab cake, coconut crunchy shrimp and prime rib were all good but nothing extraordinary about them. Key lime pie was okay. I ordered the Peach Palmer for my drink ($5.50) and when I asked, I was told that the refill was $3.50 - I think that the refills should be free or at least at a lower price. We had a great experience here. The food was delicious, the staff were so nice, and the view at sunset was amazing. You could tell everyone was working hard and staying busy, but they still provided great service. We ordered the Mahi Mahi Key West Style and the swordfish, and both were absolutely delicious. First off you had to pay $20 to park. We went to the bar first. The view is amazing and we were early enough for happy hour. The drinks were good the mussels were ok they would have been better if they were hot. Went down to restaurant. The server was very friendly at first. We both did the 3 course meal. My clam chowder was excellent. The salmon was a bit over cooked. The vegetables tasted good but were cold. The server did take the veggies back and brought me hot ones. The chocolate lava cake was a little dry. He got the filet and shrimp. The filet was really tender and good. The 3 shrimp were way overcooked and rubbery. He told the server and she said "I'll let the kitchen know". She did nothing to fix them. His mashed potatoes were Luke warm. This meal would have been ok but we expected it to be a fine dining experience. It was far from that. Well the price wasn't but the lukewarm / cold food was very disappointing. And the server told us they specialize in seafood. I would think they could properly cook shrimp. But the view is beautiful. But no spinning. We would never go back. read more

Well what to say ... First off , we had a reservation, for our ANNIVERSARY, we arrived and she asked if we were here for any event ... then we went up after 15 min of waiting for the escalator and they asked if we had a reservations, again ... Then they proceeded to take 10 min to sit us 2 because they were very busy being 3 waitress talking , on a 6 person table, in the higher part, when we asked for window seat on the reservation... and how can I forget when the waitress used my husband FIRST NAME (a man name) and said " that's you ? " looking at me (a women) ... it didn't feel good and got me very irritated , very unprofessional I then told her " we have a reservation , we asked for window we are not gonna seat here " (they had empty table) Then we went back to the front , she whispered to her colleegue and then found a table and got us seated We then wait ... no water , no bread (bread actually never came up I discovered in the comment that apparently you have that) And after 10 min the MANAGER came up , I thought we would get asked what's happened and have some sort of excuse Nope, I got accused of yelling on her employee so she was coming checking on the well being of her waitress, I told her I got use the wrong name and seated on the wrong spot when previously booked and for that , no excuses , only repeating she want her waitress to be treated right . Then come our waiter another 15 min later for our order , where we had to ask for the water ... then order , or mostly not ordering since , on a Monday , pretty empty restaurant, they are out of both of the dishes we were gonna order ... we then order something else and waited , very much irritated and disappointed by being even here ...
