Fantastic service incredible view and a big menu to choose from the lobster and shrimp roll was absolutely outstanding. My wife had the coconut shrimp and she said it was all delicious. We plan to come back many more times the renovations made look really great. And wow they surprised us at the end meal for our anniversary with a complementary red velvet piece of cake! Thank you Chart House - First Class!

I mean you come here for the view and the ambiance. The food is pretty high quality when it comes to fish, king crab, sides, salads, etc. Pretty much anything you have will be fulfilling. The service used to be wonderful years ago. It seems to be going downhill, lots more younger people working here that don't exactly carry the same old school hospitality the Chart House used to have and needs.

    Tomato and Burrata

We visited Chart House primarily for the views, and the appetizers really set a strong tone for the meal. We had the tomato and burrata, which was phenomenal--my parents' first time trying burrata, and they couldn't stop talking about how much they loved it. The tomato preparation was incredibly flavorful and well executed. The kimchi calamari is also something my husband and I always order. While I'd describe the flavor more as a sriracha/gochujang-style profile than traditional kimchi, it's still very tasty. The crispness was light, airy, and perfectly done. Unfortunately, the experience changed with the entrées. The price for the entrées was not worth it considering the quality we received. It felt like the kitchen was overwhelmed, and the mains had likely been held under a heat lamp too long. There was no glisten on any of the proteins, and everything arrived dry and overcooked rather than fresh. The mahi, in particular, was very dry and stringy with a texture closer to fish jerky than a properly cooked filet. The lobster risotto fell short. It still resembled rice, but had formed into a solid mass rather than anything creamy or cohesive. The lobster component lacked depth of flavor, and the sauce appeared broken and uneven. Timing was another issue--we essentially made a full roundabout of the tower between appetizers and entrées arriving, adding to the sense that the kitchen was struggling to keep pace. Overall, excellent service from Justin and strong appetizers, but the entrées did not justify the price point that night.

Beautiful view. Very good service and attentive wait staff. We did the truffle fries as an appetizer. I had the cedar plank salmon which was good. The roasted vegetables were a little dry but I was able to get some melted butter. My husband had the half roasted chicken dish which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. He gave it a mediocre rating. All in all we enjoyed the visit. I recommend trying Chart House if you have never been.

The food was great ! I was not expecting the plates of the appetizers to be so much! Ordered three appetizers and all were tasty and fresh ! The dinner plates were good as well but I do feel for what we ordered it was overpriced. Service was good but needs a little bit of more effort when it comes to making sure everything is good- The view is breathtaking and to be able to see the whole San Antonio before sun set is perfection- I do recommend, but choose wisely and make sure to read other reviews to make sure your pickings are the right ones.

This place was delicious! From start to finish! I was visiting for a business conference and decided to try dinner here. I had already been up to the tower and did not know it was a revolving restaurant Z so that was pretty good! I had the Burrata, heirloom tomatoes, oh my gosh this was so good! Next I ordered the shellfish linguine. Shrimp, clams, mussels, scallops and half a lobster. Again beautiful! Followed by some of the most lovely cream brûlée. Staffed by lovely people! Would return! Thank you.

This is a great location for a date or special occasion. We were from out of town and wanted a neat experience. All of our food was delicious! We went at night but all you saw were lights. If you go during the day you'd obviously be able to see more. Our server was so nice. Food came out at a good pace. Drinks were delicious. Is it worth the drive?...yes

I made reservations for Friday at 7:30PM. I requested a table for two near the window--my request was honored! We ordered the Seafood Tower, Kim Chee Calamari, and the Bone Marrow Beef Tartare. Everything was delicious. I can't remember the name of the drink, but it was also amazing, I ordered two of them. Our server was attentive and sweet. Our food came out fairly quickly and was served as fresh as can be. The ambiance is low lighting, so it's very romantic and intimate atmosphere. The views are great, I always enjoy coming for a nice date night or to celebrate a special occasion.

My spouse and I enjoyed our lunch together at the chart house. He was a bit disappointed that drat beer was not available as an option. The Cesar salad, butterfly shrimp and calamari with vegetables were delicious. I enjoyed the slow moving 360 degrees view while eating our meal. I would recommend visiting during lunch time as it was pleasant and prices were alright considering our location. We did have to waited a few minutes for one out of two elevators to transport us back down. I would recommend this as a place to visit. The dress code is not as strict as some are led to believe. Best is smart casual clothes, not revealing or with holes and the rest is acceptable. Go enjoy a nice meal!

Confused by all the low ratings but we had a stellar experience with a Group of 15, on a Monday lunch mind you. Reservations were easy to make online. Came after a graduation at the alamodome and was easy to get there walking distance wise. Our table host Bryan was great! Attentive, patient. Cocktails were on point! Try the Basil yuzu if you're a gin person. Their cocktail fauxjito was also refreshing! Starters try the calamari and mussels! Flavorful. Fish and chips were perfectly battered. Clam chowder and lobster bisque, get a bowl, won't disappoint. They don't rotate the restaurant until evening service. We still had great views of the city! Great price points on food and drinks. Definitely a great spot for date night. Will be back!

    Melanie S.

Great for happy hour - the deals are good and the bar menu is the best option. The apps and fun drink flights are delicious and much more worth it. The entrees are okay here but I don't recommend it. The location and views are the reason to come visit. Service can usually be pretty fast and attentive even on busier nights.

    Lizz B.

The view here is great and we loved the moving floor where you get a 360° view of the city during your meal. We got the ribeye, pork chops, coconut shrimp, and swordfish. The ribeye and pork chops were phenomenal. However, the shrimp and swordfish were just okay. The service was good, so no complaints there. I do expect more from a high end restaurant though. I expect them to have every dish on point with nothing left to be desired after the meal, especially for the price you pay. I would come back here for the pork chops and possibly to try other dishes.

This was an all around good experience here. The prices are what you would expect them to be. Keep in mind if you go in the evening you will just see lights. The service was fantastic. Didn't feel like we had to wait for anything and the food came out with good timing. My meal was delicious and portioned perfect. Everyone in my party was pleased with their food.

Do you guys have anything special for birthdays?

Hello Teresa, any special requests for birthdays are up to the discretion of the manager.

Does Chart House have their own Parking?

Yes there is a paid parking lot right under chart house with a guard.

    Is a reservation required?

I would recommend a reservation. But if you go without, you can try the bar. In the bar, you can eat from the same menu, but it doesn't revolve, so you get about 1/2 the view.

Do I pay to get elevator to restaurant?

No, but you have to have a reservation.

What is the dress code? Is it okay to go casual (shorts)?

Although you see all attire there and nobody would kick you out, it is a bit of a 'nicer' atmosphere so you may feel a bit out of place going that casual.

Do we need to buy a ticket for the observation tower if we have a reservation to eat at the Chart House?

Hey Bryan, it's not a seafood place it's a steakhouse but they do have sea food and it's ok. Don't go there if you're starving! The drinks and views are nice, that's why we go there. You also get a free observatory pass.

Despite the staff shortage, we placed a significant order for at least ten drinks. My husband had made a reservation for 6:00 PM. However, at approximately 7:30 PM, after we had already placed our drink order, a staff member informed my husband that our table reservation was only valid for two hours. Concerned about the impending two-hour limit and the delay in receiving our drinks, which had still not arrived by 7:45 PM, we inquired with our bartender about potentially canceling our order. He reassured us, stating that other tables were available should additional patrons arrive. Our subsequent visit, on Saturday, July 25, 2026, was solely with my husband. We arrived punctually, approximately five minutes before our 7:30 PM reservation. A female bartender directed us to a small, two-person table, despite the presence of two larger, seemingly more comfortable, unoccupied tables nearby. While initially assuming these larger tables might be reserved for a bigger party, the selection felt somewhat restrictive given the availability. Our seating unfortunately placed us adjacent to another patron who was using an additional chair to prop up her footwear, which contributed to an unpleasant atmosphere. The bartender then approached our table and asked if it was our first time, to which we replied it was not. She then asked if we knew what we wanted to order. We requested a brief moment to review the menu. However, we then waited for approximately fifteen minutes for her to return. Eventually, my husband had to actively call her over to place our order. Our initial drinks arrived after another ten to fifteen minutes. Subsequently, my husband attempted to catch the bartender's attention to order another round and request water. However, she was engaged in a lengthy conversation, estimated at ten minutes, with the neighboring patron and proceeded to walk past our table without acknowledging us. This extended period of being overlooked led to considerable frustration for my husband, who then felt compelled to approach the main bar directly to place our order and obtain water from a different bartender. It was only after this that the initial female bartender finally approached our table, asking if we needed anything. Considering the relatively small size of the establishment and the fact that there were only three occupied tables at the time, the level of inattentive and delayed service was particularly disappointing and, frankly, perplexing.

Drinks were AMAZING! Bartender Rob made the best Negroni I've ever had. I asked him to use whatever gin he thought best--result was an artistic smooooooth full-bodied drink. Told him when I was done I'd lick the glass if it wasn't considered so uncouth for a 'mature' lady like myself to do so Hubby's Buffalo Trace bourbon old fashioned was also outstanding. Rob was the bartender last night who did such a great job, and his work was even better tonight. We highly recommend The EsquireTavern for excellent cocktails. We love the long wood bar and high copper ceiling upstairs, but love the intimate speakeasy atmosphere downstairs even more. We'll definitely be back every time we're in San Antonio! First review, Friday night: Drinks were great (Manhattan and Bourbon Old Fashioned). REAL drinks, no complaints at all about those. And the bartenders were very friendly and helpful. Those aspects of the Esquire get 5+ stars from us. But the appetizers were not good, close to inedible. It was about 8:30pm or so, so maybe they were getting ready to close out the kitchen but the chalupitas with chicken tasted like rubber, and no flavor at all. The seafood platter had something in it that was breading with shell inside, but no meat of any kind. We couldn't figure out what it was supposed to be. The shrimp was good and the fish was good but those other things... We'll always love the drinks, the long wooden bar, and the ambiance at the Esquire Tavern, but we'll eat somewhere else and come here for before or after dinner drinks.
