Revolving restaurant atop the Tower of the Americas My brother-in-law was determined to dine here even with the long wait. This fine dining restaurant serving seafood & steak and famous for their spectacular views is located 750-feet above inside the Tower of the Americas in the Hemisfair District in San Antonio... and what a view it was. We were walk-in guests with no reservation so there was some wait. After waiting about 30-mins we finally ascended the tower around 1:45p and got seated at 2:05p. So far so good. After placing our orders we were served our first course at 2:40p. For our main dish some of us wanted the prime rib but we were told by our server that it won't be ready until 4:00p. Okay that's cool. We ordered the NY Strip instead. By now we were super hungry. Our food wasn't served until 3:40p... if given another 20-mins we could've ordered the prime rib. We weren't even served complimentary bread until I had to ask. Server was apologetic. We each ordered the 3-course "Chart Your Course" meal. My NY Strip was delicious! Maybe I was just hungry but it was juicy, tasty and tender. The garlic mashed potato was a nice compliment to the steak. For dessert there was only one choice which was the Mini Lava Cake. I was a little nervous after reading reviews to come here. I knew we were getting a great view but for the prices I was hoping to get good food too. After having experienced both, idk where the bad reviews are coming from. For me the only downside was we were not able to go up to the observation deck after dinner unless we purchased a wrist band. I think for the price you spend at the restaurant, a trip to the observation deck should be included. Other than that yes we got great views, it was a bit of a cloudy day so we were not hot or uncomfortable. The food was 5 stars. I enjoyed that shrimp pasta too much! Both my daughter and husband had nothing but praise for the avocado burger and my husband devoured his fish & chips. He also enjoyed his 2 cocktails (ultimate margarita & caged tiki). We had a group of 12 decide to celebrate three birthdays at the Chart House. I saw that happy hour was from 4:30 to 7pm so some of our group got there early to take advantage with happy hour cocktails and small bites. The bar is one floor above the restaurant and doesn't rotate. The view is spectacular. They were busy, but the bartenders were fixing drinks and bringing out our appetizers quickly. I tried the spinach artichoke dip, and it was delicious. Definitely worth ordering and at $6 you can't go wrong. The prime rib sliders also looked impressive but knowing we would be having dinner soon I passed on ordering them. Once all 12 of us arrived we got seated for dinner (one floor below the bar level). Chart House is known for their prime rib so that's what most of us ordered. Medium rare, cooked to perfection, and delicious. We had several wait staff attending to us and the level of personal attention excellent. The staff were adept in timing the courses so everyone was served at the same time with space in between to socialize and enjoy the view. At the end of dinner the manager came out to thank us and brought chocolate lava cake to the three folks in our group celebrating birthdays. It was a nice touch to an already fabulous night. I haven't had a bad experience at a Chart House, no matter which city it has been in. This was no exception! Brandon was our server and he was so friendly and personable from the start. My coworker and friend ordered the prime rib (which he said was a little overcooked - he had ordered it "medium" but it was more "well done" than expected). I ordered the fresh catch sea bass with a side of creamed spinach. I loved my dishes as well as the sweet bread they brought out beforehand. It was too bad I had no room left for dessert by the time I was done. I would have liked to try the key lime pie - next time! We had the perfect table right up against the window - and we were there while the sun was still out, with views for miles in all directions! All in all a very nice experience. I made reservations at Chart House for a party of 6 to celebrate my graduation. Chart House is located inside of the Tower of Americas so when you call to make reservations you get Tower of Americas staff first. Once you select reservations they redirect your call. While making reservation I was asked if it was for a special occasion and I said yes I was graduating. She said they could personalize menu with a message and I requested "Congrats Dr.Ché". I also requested window seating. She made a note of it but said there were no guarantees. Upon arrival if you park there it's $20 ( Jan 2024). Then you have to walk in to tower and check in and they give you ticket to take elevator up. The elevator has an attendant and you have to wait to be taken up to Chart House. You can see view of San Antonio while taking the elevator ride up to restaurant. Then when you get to restaurant you have to check in with hostess and wait to be seated. Upon arrival we were seated immediately and did get the window seat so I was happy. Our server Jacob was AMAZING. He made good food and drink recommendations and was pleasant during our entire dining experience. Most of the folks at my table went with the chart your course option which allows for you to have 3 courses for $56. Course one is soup or salad course two is entree and course 3 is mini lava cake for dessert. No other options and no swapping for dessert. I decided to go with chart your course and had the lobster bisque, miso maple glazed salmon. I don't like lava cakes so for dessert I went with a creme brûlée flight. The salmon is paired with green beans and I added fingerling potatoes. The food was served warm. I prefer my food hot. The soup, salmon and green beans were okay in flavor despite unfavorable temp but the fingerlings potatoes were not good at all. They tasted old. The crème brûlée flight consisted of 3 flavors: original, salted caramel, espresso. The espresso is the only one I did not like. Overall, the experience was good and I think that was largely due to our server Jacob being pleasant. But there were three things that I did not like: 1. Even if you dine there, you're still expected to pay $12 per person to go to the observation deck. The staff pointed out that the state made the change. Despite whoever is responsible that is a bit offputting after you spent upwards of $500 on food. 2. I requested a red devil cocktail with modifications and was told the bartender did not know how to make the drink. The manager said if I wanted the drink they will try and make it but it would be a $26 charge. Being up charged for a drink you guys don't even know how to make is absurd. 3. The point of the personalized menu was to have it placed on the table for your guests to see. This was my experience at a Chart House in Atlantic City. This location only prints two for you that they wrap in ribbon. I guess they would've given it at the end of my dining experience. Since I didn't see it on the table, someone from my party, asked the hostess, and she said, they don't lay out at the table right away so the servers won't take them. Back in October, my wife and I along with two other friends had an amazing dinner at the Chart House. The view is amazing and the restaurant design is very elegant. Based on that experience, we invited our entire family there for dinner at the end of our vacation together. It was an incredibly frustrating evening. Despite having a reservation at 6:30 p.m., it took the restaurant staff almost 30 minutes to get us seated. Then, our waiter got our drink orders and disappeared and never even got our food order until an hour later. Once we finally ordered, it took another hour before the food arrived but only after we brought our frustrations to the manager at that point. He said he would look into it but never got back to us. Once we finished dinner, our waiter was missing in action again and only brought desserts once half our party had been standing up ready to leave. When we received the bill, the manager only compensated $55 on a the check for a party of 12. It was not only frustrating but also embarrassing since we had really been promoting the restaurant to our family all week. I'm not sure I'd recommend this restaurant again moving forward. read more

The next course salmon (3oz) and crab was good but I was expecting bigger chunks of crab or crab leg, not just a tablespoon of minced crab like you get from a can. The rice had bell pepper and mango mixed in with the rice, it tasted strange. The prime rib was 30% fat and tough. It should have been tender as it was ordered medium rare. The mashed potatoes did not have much flavor. The shrimp was good but the linguine tasted of wine and clam juice which was disappointing. The lava cake didn't have the lava. Let's be honest: you pay for the view. I was in town for a conference, and some co-workers and I wanted to check out the place. I purposely got a reservation during happy hour, only to be told once we were seated that it was only at the bar (which was not listed on their website anywhere). OK, fine. Our table was right at the window. The restaurant moves so you can see all of San Antonio every 45 minutes, so we stayed. The food was bland and very overpriced. Our waitress was not helpful at all in navigating the menu and couldn't offer any solid recommendations. One co-worker got the coconut shrimp appetizer and another the entree. The difference was 1 shrimp and a plop of rice with about a $11 price differential. Ridiculous. Where do I disappointingly begin? I've been a long time fan of Chart House since 1993 and never thought I'd write this review, but here I am! In our weekend visit, we went twice...read on for why we came back for a second visit but won't go back again. Visited San Antonio and since being such fans had to visit, plus it was at the "Tower of the Americas" with a beautiful slow spinning view of the city night. The atmosphere was a bit dark and maybe my eyes are getting older I had to use the fake candle to light my menu as well as the light on my phone. The menu was "Chart House classic" with not too many changes so of course we ordered our favorite since it was one of our original favs, Mac Nut Crusted fish with the peanut sauce. Opted for Sea Bass over Mahi because I like it better and unfortunately, it was fishy on first bite. Hubs took a bite from the other side and his bite was fishy too. I tried another bite, and it too was fishy and that was my last bite. I went to bite into the green beans and they were borderline raw and cool to the touch. The mango sticky rice was on point flavor wise but I was so disappointed I didn't eat any more. Prior to this, we had made reservations at another restaurant to take our son to dinner but decided to come back to enjoy the city view that we thought he would enjoy. Our server, Jarvis (both nights), was amazing and definitely well versed, very knowledgeable and classy in food service. He never missed a beat! Now the disappointment. The staff knew of our fishy fish on our first visit and knew we were coming back to give it another go at what we knew is usually amazing. We brought a nice bottle of Napa wine from home to enjoy with our meal (but didn't know we could not do that in Texas) so we even ordered a $100 bottle of wine to go with our dinner. 2 of us ordered the ribeye...it had to be perfect, right? NOT, my steak was medium rare alright but it wasn't even warm. It was as if it was a bit chilled so I guess the joke was on me, I was in tears. First time visiting the Chart house and it was such a nice experience! Our waiter Don, went above and beyond with making our dinner experience nice and enjoyable. Despite the cloudy/rainy weather the view was so nice to see! + being able to see the X-mas lights! It was a bit chilly sitting by the window, so I would suggest bringing a jacket/coat just in case. It was absolutely breathtaking watching the sun go down but also the view of San Antonio was unbeatable! We started out with the Clam Chowder, and it was good. You can never go wrong with clam chowder. My husband got the ribeye, and I ordered the filet mignon. Each came with a side of mashed potatoes. Both steaks were cooked to perfectly. It was quite the experience, and you don't even realize you're moving unless you're looking out the window and notice a different view every couple minutes. My husband and I had a wonderful anniversary dinner here! I was a little frustrated about having to wait for our reservation time at a place this upscale however the experience was definitely worth it. It also appeared that there were several larger prom groups there for dinner, which could be why they were running behind. While we were waiting for our table, we went upstairs to the bar and had a drink. The drinks were amazing! Genuinely the best drink I've ever had. (it's off the menu but blood orange mule if anyone's wondering). Our server was excellent and just attentive enough that we never felt like he was breathing over our necks. Knowing this is basically a locals rite of passage (I had a couple childhood birthdays here myself back when it was owned by Jim's [RIP]) I was fully onboard with his choice. The plot twist: I'm vegan, he's veggie and the only thing that's available on the menu is a Beyond burger during LUNCH. I called to find out if we could request the Beyond burgers for dinner and the girl I spoke with, who was super nice, said she would ask and put me on hold. She came back and said "No, they will only serve Beyond burgers at lunch". Whyyyy? They're there, in the kitchen. It's a birthday, a special day we wanted to share at this establishment. This shouldn't be that big of a deal. If you can provide a vegan/veggie option at lunch why can't you provide one at dinner?! This is very disappointing and I don't think it's really asking a lot. Th rotating views, the food, and the service were remarkable. Upon entering parking is a flat rate of $20 bucks! From the time we walked into the tower to the immaculate elevator ride, everything was spectacular. Although there is a pre-recorded speech, our elevator hor talked to us about the experience. We had reservations, but for a party of 6, we had to wait about 20 minutes before seated. We got there 25 minutes before the menu switched over, so unfortunately, we were unable to have the prime rib, but the lunch options were great. I had the fish and chips. A couple friends & I were in town for the weekend and of course had to check out all the tourist spots. We found ourselves at the Tower of Americas which was perfect for a super hot day to cool down. We started to get a bit hungry so we checked out the Chart House on top for some apps. The dining room with reservations only so we sat in the lounge which ended up being just as nice. The views were amazing. A great way to see the entire city. The food & drinks were also great. We shared the calamari, hummus and beef carpaccio. I will say, after reading the reviews I was very skeptical. But after an 8 hour drive and having a reservation for 2 weeks, we decided to give it a shot. The elevator ride up was amazing! Truly a sight to see. Upon entering the restaurant, the hosts were very accommodating and friendly. I will say, if you get motion sick or easily dizzy, I recommend not looking at the moving floor. We had a window seat and the rotation was so cool! It was very subtle. As for the food, we started off with the crab and shrimp fondue. Very cheesy, a little kick, and overall really good! I'd get it again. We both got the filets, both were cooked to perfection and it came with a side of mashed potatoes that were also very good! Our server was good. I brought my family for a very special occasion, we had a reservation and still had to wait 30 mins to be seated even though there were plenty of open tables. Everyone from the concierge, to the host, and server not a single person was actually courteous or respectful. Clam chowder was delicious, steak tender but under seasoned. mashed potatoes were a mix of fingerlings or russet and red potatoes- kind of odd and they were also bland and under-seasoned. My family actually mentioned that they love my home cooking more and honestly it would've been a better meal experience. Out of everything the lack of cleanliness might be the most concerning. Everywhere you look there's dust, grime, food, and smudges it's really gross. The table itself was set beautifully with fresh clean linen,just don't look anywhere else. The woman's restroom has two stalls but one was inoperable and very classy to be closed with toilet paper to wedge it closed. The other stall was dirty (physical dirt, dust and trash on the ground), doesn't have anywhere to hang a purse or a coat. TP is that super cheap half ply kind you'd expect in a portable but at-least they have invested in very plush branded hand towels. The crab cake was full of crabmeat and was accompanied by cherry tomatoes and corn. The 7oz filet and whipped potatoes topped with wontons met all my requirements. Went out for a birthday dinner celebration. The place was disappointing. We arrived early, but it took 20 minutes after the reservation to seat us. The waiter didn't offer any recommendations on popular items. During dinner, they attempted to serve someone else's order twice. From placing the order to getting the meal, it took about an hour. We visited during the holidays, understandably the busiest time of the year, so we tried to temper expectations of the food and service. Selection was limited to a fixed price menu but there were many choices. Unfortunately one in our party selected something that got "86'ed" in the kitchen meaning either it ran out or the chef couldn't get to it. As a result, our entrees were delayed for almost an hour and a half after the first course, and when they arrived (after I notified the manager of the situation) clearly the meals that had been prepared earlier had sat for awhile and were not proper temperature. We sent those meals back for warming but none of the food was that great especially for the pricing. It's clear there is a lack of staffing and training; the waitress should have notified her manager of the problem right away but did not do so when she first discovered we had not been served when she expected. The restaurant appeared understaffed for the load and activities should have been better monitored by management. This is a Landry's restaurant and I expected better. Likely big changes will need to be made to improve but, it is a tourist business that doesn't require repeat, so maybe not. The live music upstairs in the bar that we could hear and the views we could see were the saving graces for the evening. Without those we would have been vastly disappointed. After living in SA for 2 years, I have to say this place is a must to try at least once. Whether it's a special occasion or a "just because" - I think, if you live in SA, you HAVE to experience the Chart House. Is the food incredible? No, but it is good. Service was excellent. We had a very fun waiter. The revolving restaurant did effect my motion sickness for a few seconds, but I had great company to distract me. 110% get the chocolate molten cake dessert. Again, prices are a bit higher, but you can come here for happy hour. We were lucky that we were able to catch the sunset. After dinner we took the elevator to the top floor and admired the view. Reserved our table online 2 weeks before we visited. They are very communicative as they will let you know if your table is ready without you asking them to update you. As we enter the door from the ground floor, the lady assisted us checking our reservation and they will ask if you are walk in. After check-in, we went to the elevator we went to the Restaurant. They also have lounge where you can drink and observatory above. It appears that when you have table in the restaurant you are free to go to the observatory. We were assisted to our seats (this us our first time) the floor of all of the tables and chairs were moving 360 to have the full view of San Antonio and it was really nice. It's not like making you feel dizzy but just enough to let you talk and eat and watch the view at the same time. For the appetizer, we had kimchi calamari. I have braces and and I didn't have any issue chewing this flavorful calamari, we actually wish we did some take out of it. We also had clam chowder for soup. For the main course, ordered the Prime Rib which just melt in your mouth with their garlic mashed potatoes and added broccoli. And also ordered the Chart Course where you can get the clam chowder for appetizer, Chimichurri beef and shrimp with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes which gave a different flavorful beef. For dessert, which is part of the Chart Course we had the choco lava cake. The service was really good as well, he made sure that we were being taken care of. I saw a photographer in the restaurant beside the stairs, I am not sure if he partners with the Chart House to take picture and how it goes tho. A memorable destination dinner, the 360 degree an hour rotation gives you a full view of San Antonio. With our reservations given to the host downstairs we waited a few minutes for our 750' elevator ride up. It was a toasty 107 degrees outside but it was comfortable inside the restaurant, even when rotating into direct sunlight. The adults got the ahi and the mahi, while the kids went for a cheeseburger and a chicken tender/shrimp meal. My ahi was perfectly cooked for me and very tender, the sweet ginger soy and savory wasabi cream sauce complimented it well. I had a nibble of the kids meals and the quality was on par with our main courses. We got some cocktails since we had no room for dessert and shared a port of Manhattan which was well balanced and quite stiff. Although it's a chain restaurant the location is a wonderful spot for a special occasion and well worth the trip. read more

If I could give this restaurant 10 stars I would! From the minute we arrived, until we left, the staff was so friendly, professional, and generous. Our server Preston was so attentive and fun and we would request to be in his section again! The Asst GM, Mike, was so nice to talk to and he really took care of us.
