I don't like my coffee in black mugs i actually prefer a cup and saucer. So, when my husband brought my coffee in a black mug I quickly got up to change it. When I asked to change the mug not only he was pleasant but, he picked up a white mug poured a hot water in it before pouring my coffee (to keep the mug warm) and gave it back to me. I came here about a month ago with my boyfriend because it wasn't too far from our house and we were wowed! First of all, we love the location because it's around so many other food spots to eat at. I would say that the parking can get a bit tight in front of the cafe. When we got inside we were amazed by the decorations and set up, I immediately thought, "I can't wait to study here." We also got tiramisu and chocolate mint cake. The croissant was nicely cooked, and it looks big, but it was so easy to eat up because it was not too dry and not too oily. The chocolate chip bread was soft and got a little chocolate flavor. Tiramisu: It got a nice coffee flavor and is not too sweet. Amazing cafe with some of the widest variety of pastries. I'm always in awe whenever I pull up to this place because there's always something different. They're pastries are so tasty and fresh. They have a sitting area in the back which is also a library to chat and relax. Every pastry we had was delicious and I have to say that the strawberry creme donut was a MUST HAVE. I got an oat draft latte and not gonna lie, was gonna disappointed because it had a ton of ice in it (because the picture they had on the menu displayed a full cup of coffee like a nitro). I regularly visit chateau to study since it's one of the closest cafe from my house. I was excited to try their signature oat draft latte and cold brew which I tried up in New York. Despite of the same brand (la colombe), it's not the same. Their oat draft latte wasn't as rich as the one I tried up in New York and their cold brew is just meh. If I were to recommend any drinks, it would be their iced matcha latte (not too bland/sweet). Their pastries are subpar. I love bread and coffee in general (I hunt down places in nova, I would be willing to drive 2 hours to find a good place) yet their pastries were not as good as it looked. Don't get pastries, I would go for more traditional korean bread here (recommend mosaic bread and red bean bun) just fyi I'm sweet tooth so I might be little biased. Their pricing is on the higher end which makes me hesitate to get any drinks (avg $6 coffee). If you are trying to study, try to get seat inside (near the bookshelves/ where the bathroom is; but lights are dim fyi) because the music can be little too loud. I would recommend coming here to hang out/ catch up with friends rather than studying. But good thing is that they are open til 11pm which is perfect for ppl who are trying to hang out late but have no where to go. Since covid, I know lots of cafe close early. Also, They do offer variety of food/drinks (bread, sandwich, wine, seltzer/alc (surprised me since I've never seen any cafe offering alc), coffee, frappe, bingsoo, etc) so that's good. Chateau de Chantilly has become my mom's absolute favorite coffee shop in the area. It's absolutely gorgeous inside--tons of space with eclectic seating, decorations, etc. and very aesthetically pleasing. It's almost always packed when I come and I usually have to scope out if there are any open tables! I've tried a few drinks and pastries from here. As far as pastries go - their green bean bun is just ok, the red bean bun is better. The blueberry danish is delicious, as is their fruit & nut bread and madeleines. Today I tried a cheesy corn bread which was large and filling - it was pretty good but nothing that special. I think I have also tried one of their chocolate donuts/cakes and it was good, very rich and dense. As far as drinks go, I've tried the matcha boba, lavender latte, and today had a pumpkin spice latte (all of these usually with oat or almond milk). The matcha boba was okay but I didn't love it. The lavender latte is really lovely and is a favorite in my family. Pumpkin spice was also good, I think they use the same pumpkin sauce as the coffee shop I used to work at (and I loved that sauce). They present the drinks beautifully and have both for here and to go cups. Now for the bad - I think 3 out of 4 or 5 times I've been here, they've messed up my order - BUT, they're always super nice and quick to correct their mistake. However, to be frank, their prices are ridiculous. A flavored latte such as the periwinkle (lavender) latte is 5.95 - plus $1 extra for any alternative milk, and they even charge 50¢ for decaf??? As someone who was a barista for 5+ years, I can tell you definitively that making a decaf latte costs the exact same amount of time and money as caffeinated, and having one normal sized latte cost $7.50 is just unreasonable. Another concern I have is regarding food safety. As I mentioned, I've worked as a barista for a while, and have also worked at other food service establishments. Meaning, I know very well that meat and dairy products have to be kept below 41 degrees *at all times.* They keep food with cheese, beef, chicken, sausage etc. in an unrefrigerated display case all day. I have sat there studying for hours and not once seen anyone come and check the temperatures of the food or change any of the food out. After having been there several times I finally raised the issue to one of the employees and he basically brushed it aside and said, "well, we make everything fresh in the morning, so it's fine." I said that since there's perishable food, it had to be refrigerated and he was sort of just like "no, it's fine! I promise!" and I left it at that. I would have given them a 4 star review but I could not in good conscience knowing that they are keeping food unsafely, which is a serious issue that they need to fix before anyone gets seriously sick. read more

Simply regal and magnificent! I'd been peeping the photos, wondering if it was too good to be true. The photos don't even donut justice! This might be one of the most thoughtfully curated cafe spaces in the DMV. I ordered a matcha frappe and it came in a golden cup. I headed back to the rainbow library, full of nice touches like fancy couches and a ladder. My fellow wahoos: this is the closest you can get to the McGregor Room outside if the 434. I found an open seat and it happened to be a golden throne. Fancy Nancy would approve. The drink was just delicious. It was topped in heavenly cream and it had the consistency of sno. The trash bins ... were an eye-damage. Do your job staff! At $3.50 per croissant the price point is below what you'd expect for the Billions-$$$ D.C. area, but Chateau gives you a break and that is why I'll be back: you get your dollar's worth of breakfast goodness. Today, I ordered several tarts, cakes and pastries. They're not inexpensive. The lady helping me (cashier), seemed disinclined to leave her station and walk with me so I could pick out what I wanted. Instead she asked me to memorize all of the names and come back to her. Upon placing them in the white boxes, the pastries were touching and getting ruined. The white boxes had chocolate stains from her fingers. I mentioned it and she just stared at me and stuffed a tissue paper in one of the boxes, messing up the design of a raspberry pavlova. I told her I needed my receipt, which was jammed in her machine. She said I must've pressed "no receipt". I repeated myself, she checked, and then presented me with a crumpled receipt. She forgot to give the staff my drink order. I waited and asked them if I could have my drink. They said they never got the order. She asked me if she gave me a pager (no) and then tossed one to me. It was rude. The staff made me the wrong drink, wrong size. They repeated that it was because they never got the order. One of the girls angrily threw the plastic cup across the floor. They made me another drink. It was a Sweet Mintz. It used to be my favorite drink, but now it just tastes like sprite with a lonely mint leaf as a garnish. They used to add muddled mint with a stick of sugarcane. My young daughter was with me. They showed poor customer service, but worse, poor behavior in front of her. Despite the lower standards, I've continued to come here for the convenience; however, with this type of service, and the subpar food and beverages, there's no reason to frequent this business anymore. read more

But beware, there's almost NO seating on a Monday afternoon at 1:30PM so I can't even imagine coming on a weekend. There are a couple bobas and bingsoo alongside the iced americanos and their signature drink, the chateauccino. I got that along with a mammoth (some kind of pastry with red bean filling) and the pesto prosciutto sandwich. Bakery and coffee were great. I would skip the sandwich next time though. The staff were wearing masks but not gloves. The tables weren't sanitized after used. We've been there for 2 hours and I've never seen the staff sanitized the tables or the trays. The tongs used for the pastries - were just left in the basket without any covers. You just mainly pick up the tongs and get your pastry from the little pastry "cabinet" so to say. Someone can easily touch the tongs and spread whatever. The boba tea straws were not individually wrap. Been here on a weekend and weekday and they are very busy.
