Great to find a restaurant while traveling that is truly a hidden gem. The place was spotless with a great home town feel. FAMOUS Steak Tips were awesome. Johnson's is a fantastic restaurant. The service and food are top notch. We enjoyed (and overstuffed ourselves) on French onion soup, fried mushrooms and Mozzarella sticks, onion rings, 1/2 pound blue cheese burger, fried shrimp, clams, scallops and haddock. My favorite part about the place was the chalk pizza peal with a bunch of games on it, it was really innovative, just remember to check the walls. The mozzarella sticks were just alright, they tasted kind of reheated, but it was $11 for something like 8, and the marinara was really sweet and good. I thought they had calamari, but I didn't see it on the menu. Either I missed it or they just don't have it. SO MANY FREAKING FRIED CLAM STRIPS. I don't know how they even fit so many on the plate, and for $15, I feel like they spend $30 just for the clams themselves, let alone the sides. In the beginning, the waitress talking to a co-worker instead of getting our drinks, but she didn't take too long, and was otherwise quick with getting everything else. The place was... cozy? We drive by Johnson's often and thought it was time to checkout the local establishment. When I say local, I mean it. When we walked in, we were greeted with many eyes. Swear there was a moment of silence as we walked in. The staff were busy getting food delivered to tables and we were seated. Mostly table seating and a few booths. (Could be wrong about that ) The menu is huge with a lot of variety. How big is that kitchen. Reminded me of a local spot in Portland. Seafood, poultry, meat options. You name it and it was on the menu. Lot of butter options. Our server, Michelle was awesome. Great personality and attentive. She really made our experience. Fried pickles were a good starter to the meal. I went with the baked haddock sandwich to cut down on the butter sauce. Ate it more as an open face than a sandwich. My partner ordered the fish and chips and was confused when offered two sides. So, you just need to add the fries and a second side to make it fish and chips. All good we shared fries. Snagged dinner at Johnson's last night and was pleasantly surprised! The helpings are generous - we chose fried pickles and onion nuggets. These were HUGE helpings! We didn't even make a dent in either of them. I got a bacon cheese burger and boy was it juicy! My husband chose the Buffalo chicken wrap and was pleasantly surprised by the flavor! We were a bit sad that the fried pickles didn't come with any sauce, maybe they just forgot it. No problem at all. We'll be back! read more

My husband and I went to Johnsons in North Berwick Me. We have always had a great experience there. The food was fantastic but the waitress was little to be desired. We got seated and from the time we sat down, to the time we left it was a rushed thing. She was very friendly with her other tables but not with us. We had: Onion chunks app. Scallops and haddock combo (came w/ fries, slaw). Fish and Chip (came with a side). 2 drinks Total: $64 Everything was very tasty, except the side of Italian veg that was boiled to death. The seafood was cooked perfectly and it came with a generous amount of french fries. The slaw was good. Fresh and crisp. Need more than 1 oz cup per serving. Cabbage is cheap. read more

This was a great spot for lunch with some work colleagues. The place feels a bit homey and is not too large but has plenty of people to keep food coming out fast and fresh. They have two big companies near by that seem to send a lot of folks their way for lunch so they have a small discount for those folks. Their specialty is marinated steak tips. After some debate over my most recent stop here, it seems that would be sirloin tips. Whatever they are, they are delicious. As well as steak they have a number of good seafood offerings as well (shocking given the name) in addition to good starters. We ended up with the appetizer platter which was a bit heavy on fried foods but everything was fantastic. The steak tips were cooked nicely to order. The service was warm but not overbearing and food came out quickly. Overall, a good place to eat. I would go a bit out of my way to stop by. Side note: if you just can't get enough of the steak, you can buy it pre-marinated to cook at home. read more

We came across Johnson's and decided to give it a gamble. It was a cold Saturday night and we restaurant wasn't too busy. Our group of 5 was seated immediately in a large booth. The atmosphere was pretty casual. Our waitress was fast, attentive, and very polite. She apologized each time she had to reach over someone. The food was good, but definitely more on the heavier side. For starters we had ordered soup, onion rings, and fried mushrooms. The onion rings and the fried mushrooms, were extremely generous portions- we couldn't finish it, but it tasted good and greasy :) For my meal I had the baked scallops, that came with a baked potatos and coleslaw. The scallops were in a buttery sauce and came with fried bread crumbs sprinkled on top. I thought I was getting something healthier, but it really wasn't. The coleslaw was an interesting bright green, maybe thats how green the cabbage is in Maine? The food was so heavy that we didn't have room for dessert- though the dessert menu did look good, I noticed a ginger bread pudding. The food was alright and the service was good. Our family use to love this place. We went tonight and was disappointed. The portions have gone way down. My wife ordered the haddock nugget plate and got 4 pieces of haddock and a plate of fries. A good family restaurant in an area without a lot of good restaurant choices. We love the free bread. The entrees we've had so far are pretty good too, but certainly not amazing (steak tips were pretty good, as was the chicken sandwich). Caesar salad was slightly above average. Prices are reasonable.
