A gorgeous, romantic atmosphere in the bustling Winter Park Village area. The location is great if you want to be walking distance to the movie theatre, shopping, or dessert. The bread for the table was a sweet coconut bread - I really liked this unique touch! We tried the Arugula Salad, Calabaza Raviolis, Langosta, and Tres Leches. Everything was delicious! For my 3100th review, I'm going w/ Chayote. I picked this for my birthday dinner. I changed my mind like a dozen times and I'm happy I went with this one. It's located in Winter Park Village which has boutiques, other restaurants, Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream and Cheesecake Factory. It also has its own Champagne bar next door. There is inside and outside seating and the decor is aesthetically pleasing. We had the perfect spot to sit in our own little private cubby hole half moon booth in the back. I loved it. They had Orlando Magical Dining that we considered. It was 60 per person but we weren't to fond of the first course options. So we decided upon our entrees on our own which was a perfect size. We had the guava glazed short rib and the lobster tail mofongo. These flavors were perfect and savory with a touch of sweet. This was food I seriously couldn't have just anywhere so it definitely stood out and was terrific. We honestly didn't love our service w/ our server. It was just okay. I asked for recommendations to which he only directed to the most expensive ones with no explanation. He digressed from other ones that I thought sounded good. With that, it was fine that he was pretty absent, & we could have minimal interaction. The hostess stand girls were very nice and also took our pics outside. I enjoyed my dinner and the atmosphere nonetheless, and did love this restaurant and food!! If you are looking for something special for your birthday, this one has great food. They give you a postcard on your table to say thank you for spending your special day here. They want you to order a dessert and they put a candle on it. Came for a friend's birthday and was really excited to try Chayote. I ordered the coconut shrimp croquettes (just okay) and the choripán sliders (AMAZING!). My friend had the Ropa Vieja lasagna and it was a solid 10/10 honestly the best thing on the menu. Unfortunately, I also tried to order the Chilean sea bass, but our server never put it in. Chayote - FABULOUS (after swearing off this place following a crazy rude initial encounter during my birthday week). One of my close friends wanted to go and we adored Mario's tapas restaurant in Puerto Rico years ago. It was our favorite of our entire week there. It's a gorgeous and swanky atmosphere, perfect for date night and special occasions. The happy hour is a stellar deal for an app trio and wildly creative drinks. Don't opt for the drink with a 'c' unless you are really adventurous. The service at the bar was excellent. At the table, we each had an entree. The birthday boy had two - the portions are not that big but the flavor is excellent. Our faves were the lobster, ravioli and short rib. The sea bass was delicious but almost a fluffy consistency so it was like you were eating air. Really strange. The truffle mashed potatoes though were heaven. The chocolate cake was perfect with their (very sweet) expresso martini as it wasn't too sweet. Tres leches was a hit too! Service at the table was perfect too! Expect small yet flavor-filled portions (for mucho dinero $$$) that will knock your socks off. I've been here a few times and want to give a super shout out to my fav bartender, Lyndsay! She crafts drinks like an artist, runs the bar like a boss, and still finds the time to converse and make me smile :) My most recent trip here was for Aperitivo Hour (happy hour) which is Wednesday-Sunday from 4-7pm. The Paloma Rosa is my favorite. Who can deny a hibiscus infused tequila drink at nearly half the price?! Also the pork short rib in the Costilla Nachos was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The vibe is hip and stylish, and this is a perfect spot for a celebration meal. We opted for cocktails and small plates and it was perfect. I highly recommend the BEE-SOS cocktail and the delicate croquettes. We didn't have a single bite that wasn't delicious. The pricing is a little high in comparison with the portions and they still have octopus on the menu (a personal turnoff). After 3 happy hours here, we committed to a formal dinner and came away impressed with the kitchen's skill. Items are unique and beautifully presented. Service is attentive and actually helpful. One critique: there is a heavy reliance on the fryer. We knew from the HH visits that most small bites were fried (bolitas, croquetas, empanadas, spring rolls), and at the dinner this seemed true for the larger dishes too (pulpo and trout). The results are delicious (like at a county fair, everything tastes better fried), but you may order conservatively as a result - harder to save room for dessert. I can honestly say the quality hasn't gone down and looking at their regular menu, the price seems more reasonable than last year so I'll definitely come back to eat again. Hospitality was gracious, and the ambiance was simple, yet elegant without feeling pretentious. Tiana provided stellar service. When she welcomed us as her "guests," it set the stage. My Manhattan and my husband's Fashionista were perfect for sipping, as we perused the menu. The coconut shrimp croquetas were delicious. I expected them to be somewhat dry on the interior, and it was a delightful surprise to find they were more creamy in texture, with the coating crispy, but not hard. My husband didn't leave a speck of his beef short rib, nor I with the octopus. Even the side of asparagus was perfectly cooked to tender-crisp. The appetizer was delicious, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed his entrée--I tried it as well, and it was great! However, the one and only downfall of our experience was my chicken entrée. Unfortunately, it was incredibly salty--far beyond what is typical for Puerto Rican cuisine, which we know can lean salty but is usually well-balanced. I love a well-seasoned dish, but this was excessive to the point of being inedible. It genuinely felt like a mistake, as if the salt shaker had been used a little too generously. Unfortunately, I was unable to enjoy my meal due to the level of salt. Because our server was so sweet, approachable, and attentive, I mentioned it to her, and she immediately offered to replace my meal. However, I'm not the type to send food back, so I declined. We started with tuna tartare, bolitas de queso, and the foie donut. The foie donut was AMAZING and I am salivating thinking about it as I write this review. Everyone needs to try the foie donut. We basically licked the plate. The tuna tartare was also great however the bolitas de queso were not very authentic and I did not enjoy them. They are way better in the little neighborhood restaurants in Puerto Rico. But again, that foie donut was so memorable. For entrees, we had the chef's famous lubina (white fish) that came with a delicious yuca mash. The fish was exquisite. However, the gentleman at the front was super accommodating and offered us seating in the lounge area next to the bar, even moving a few chairs around so my group of three could fit comfortably. After a while, we decided against sitting at the bar and asked if we could sit outside, and they happily said yes, which was awesome because outdoor seating is included in the happy hour. It was a bit chilly, so I asked if they could turn on the warmers, and they placed us right in the middle of two of them. They were very accommodating and considerate! Everything was absolutely delicious. I started with a Hugo spritz (so refreshing!) and we ordered the happy hour bites, which are available as a set for $32 instead of individually--such a good deal. Let's start with the positive, this restaurants is beautifully decorated. They really paid attention to all the little details, from the bar to different seating areas around the restaurant, to the cute bathroom. I visited on a weekday with a friend and we were greeted quickly after being seated. Our server gave us a long background story of how the restaurant came to be and the chef. My friend ordered a gin and tonic to start and she mentioned it didn't taste like there was much alcohol in it. It does have that pretty purple color though. We started out with the bolitas for $14 and the croquetas for $15. Of the two I liked the bolita better. For our entrees I ordered the arroz con pollo for $34 and my friend ordered the tuna for $45. My dish was pretty sad, the chicken was literally like 3 ounces of chicken and tasted like it was from my air fryer leftovers day 3. The rice was pretty stale tasting too. I liked the tostonas that came with it but they were super salty. My friend's dish wasn't any better, I didn't try it but she wasn't impressed. Our service was lacking too considering this is more of an upscale restaurant. I had to get up and get water because our server was never around. He didn't check on us until our entrees were done. All and all, I really wanted to like this place, especially since it's so close to me but it was a let down. Maybe it's a good spot just for drinks. read more
