Stopped by on a weeknight with my friend for happy hour. We got a seat at the bar. I started with the sangria. We shared the small bites platter which was all 4 of the small bites for $32. Decided to give this restaurant a try for my birthday as the recommendations were 10/10. At first, I was skeptical given that it's food I can cook at home but let me tell yall, I was humbled. We decided to sit outside to enjoy happy hour. We got the croquetas and the cheese bites (Forgot what they're called) sooo delicious. The drinks were presentable and good, not too strong either. For entree, we ordered the rainbow trout but I wanted to try the tartar and WOW! Blew me away, absolutely delicious 11/10. My friend ordered the ropa vieja lasagna soo good 9/10. My cousins ordered the arroz pollo which came with beans and a side of sweet plantains. The beans tasted like my grandma made it, very authentic. We tried the tres leche and it was good but nothing out of this world, i'd rate it a 5/10. I highly recommend this place, will be back to try more items on the menu. read more

So I made a reservation here for happy hour, and I planned to ask my girlfriends to be my bridesmaid at said dinner. When I got to the restaurant I asked the hostess to please not seat them until they are all there because I set up some decorations, and she happily agreed. The patio is SUPER cute with beautiful plants surrounding the area. The hostesses were so lovely in helping me surprise my friends. The drinks were super good, I had both a passion fruit mojito and a hugo spritz which i would 10/10 recommend. The bartenders were also very sweet. The food came out and though smaller happy hour portions it was really good. Our waiter was very attentive to us as well. Three solid stars for ambience and service! What a vibe when you walk into this restaurant! You almost forget that you are in Orlando and not Miami! I love the decor and the colors as well as the foliage! We were seated after our reservation, toward the back with the cool green couches. They were a little difficult to get into, we had to take turns pulling the couch out to enter. We also had a water bucket behind our couch and every time a waiter came by to fill water, we felt the slam back into the bucket. Why not pull it away from the couch!? That was a little irritating for me, but anywho! The food, let's talk about the food! So, to me, it wasn't anything special and it lacked flavor. I know the reviews are amazing for this restaurant, but I need to be honest. We got the rolled plantain and the coconut shrimp croquettes for appetizer. They both lacked flavor in my opinion and the shrimp was fishy for some reason. I ordered the arroz con pollo for dinner and the tostones were the best part. Once again, it wasn't very flavorful and the price point didn't match up. The desserts were the best part! The chocolate cake and the tres leches were my favorite. The ice cream with the chocolate cake, is to die for! If I ever came back, it would be for the desserts and nothing else. I got a mocktail and they charged the same price as the cocktail. That seemed a little unfair to me. I don't ask prices but realized it on our bill. There was also a manager that was walking around looking at the tables, and not once did he even smile or say hello. Chayote was highly recommended and I'm so happy I was finally able to try them! This was a 10/10 experience from the drinks, the food, the ambiance and the service! I cannot remember the name of my drink but it was suggested by our waiter and it was very good. For appetizers we got the crab cake and chorizo sliders, neither dish disappointed! The crab cake had an amazing crunch and flavor. It paired extremely well with the fruit on top as well as with the sauce. The sliders with the melted provolone was chef's kiss. Our entrees were soooo good and two of the restaurants most popular dishes! My friend had the sea bass which was really good. What surprised me was the yuca mousse, I could not believe how good it was! I love a good short rib and this one was extremely tender and flavorful. Even the carrots were good! The shallot rings added a special touch to the dish that I truly appreciated. Lastly, we tried the Chocolate Torta for dessert. I'm not a huge chocolate fan but it was really good. The flavored ice cream made the dish for sure stand out. Our waiter was knowledgable of the menu, suggested great items and was extremely kind. I would 100% go to Chayote again. Destiny was our server and she was very nice and tentative. I was Abel to try the Rosa drink and rum daiquiri which was AMAZING I will be definitely ordering the rum daiquiri again it tastes like a sip of fall like apple spice. The food... the cheese balls were delicious, even the tuna tartare on a tostones was a legit party in your mouth. That was my favorite dish. They have a variety of small bites, starters, main course and desserts on their menu. Food is so authentic and delicious. Finally got the opportunity to go and decided to try to some of the appetizers just to get a feel of the restaurant. One thing I'm gonna say is that their service is top-notch, very nice people and they definitely had a whole conversation with me at the bar. They explained everything that they could. And I can't lie. The taste was pretty good, even though they brought out one of my menu items late. They took it off the bill. My family and I ate dinner at Chayote and had a mixed experience . The food was delicious, with flavorful dishes that combined luxury dinning with Puerto Rican dishes. These dishes showed skill and care in their preparation. The drinks were amazing, with creative cocktails and fresh ingredients. And the desserts? Yummy doesn't even begin to describe them! However, the portion sizes were surprisingly small, especially given the high prices. I am always one to say I don't mind spending money on food as long as the quality and quantity of food is there, as well as receiving "fine dining" service. Quality and service were definitely met. Overall, I'd recommend Chayote for a special occasion or if you're looking to splurge. Just be aware of the prices and portion sizes, and plan accordingly. read more

Very disappointed overall. The restaurant was not busy at all, yet the service was really slow and the waitress wasn't very educated on the menu. Got there early for happy hour - which has to be at the bar - and $10 for a happy hour drink that was 3 sips was not worth the price. Let's get into the food... the portions were extremely small. Had the short rib nachos and it was not great and very small. For entree, I had the steak and it was overcooked and once again very small portion. My friend had the Chilean sea bass. She said it was cooked perfectly but the portion was super small. Yes the place has nice ambiance, but that is about it. Definitely won't be returning. read more

Chayote is l located in the newly renovated Winter Park Village, only down side is parking is really crappy bc there's so many stores and restaurants in the area so it's normal to have to walk 3-5min to the restaurant. I went for happy hour and sat outside which was absolutely gorgeous. I got the sangria, and all the happy hour apps, they also offer 2 other cocktails a Paloma, and rum cocktail, along with wine and beer during happy hour. My favorite was the ahi tuna bites! They only offer 4 happy hour apps, Alcapurria, ahi tuna tostones, cheese bread bites and croquettes. I definitely recommend checking them out even though the happy hour menu is limited. read more

My friend and I tried this spot out midweek for Happy Hour. The decor and surroundings were very pretty, comfortable, and well arranged. We were only meeting for drinks and sat at the bar. Bartenders were super helpful explaining the menu. We each tried a different drink and ordered two items off the happy hour menu. But, the price was just too much for what we got. My husband and I were both underwhelmed. Most of us ordered the arroz con pollo - and I'm guessing the price had a lot to do with that. $28 for arroz con pollo (the cheapest main dish) - with a very limited menu. The next cheapest thing was in the $40 range. Basically, it could be a pricey night. My boyfriend and I celebrated our recent anniversary here and had a fantastic night. The restaurant is beautifully decorated and has a vibrant atmosphere upon walking in. It's a great place for celebrations as it is pretty pricey and portions are on the smaller side, hence the reason I gave 4 stars. A must try to start off with is the Cortadito, their take on an Espresso Martini. I could only have one though as it was strong enough to get my heart rate up! lol We started with the Bolitas (cheese balls) and the Sancocho Vegano (vegetable soup), both were delicious. The Sancocho is made with a mushroom broth base and the flavor really came through. For entrees, we split the Léchon (pork) and the Remolacha (beet salad). Both of which were tasty but also on the small side. My favorite part of the night was the Pistachio Tres Leches cake!! It was light and tasty and I enjoyed it so much I forgot to take a picture. Will definitely be back for that and the Paloma Rosa (mezcal with watermelon, blueberry and lime juice)! read more

This stunning, upscale Latin restaurant located in the recently remodeled Winter Park Village is celebrity Chef Mario Pagán's first concept in the US. He is well known for his restaurants in Puerto Rico, so we were excited to check it out. We made reservations during their soft opening which are required, so be sure to book in advance. Upon walking in, we were politely greeted by the host staff and they guided us over to the lounge area to have a seat while they prepared our table. The interior design is gorgeous and I love all the furniture selections. Once seated, our server was well-educated on the menu and explained the concept, popular dishes, and made recommendations. The main reason this was not a 5-star experience for us was because of the pricing compared to the portions & quality which I'll talk about more, but be ready to drop a pretty penny at this place. Starting with the drinks, I asked about mocktails and they let me know that they can make any of their signature drinks without the alcohol. I was happy to hear that since their cocktails all sounded delicious. I ordered the paloma rosa which is a crisp watermelon & blueberry drink. My husband ordered the pisco visco which he really enjoyed. To my surprise when we got the bill, they still charge the same price as the cocktail ($17) even if they make it without alcohol. That's pretty crazy to me, but ok. We started with the bolitas (cheese balls) which come with 4 per order ($14). They were tasty but I don't think I'd order these again. Next up, we ordered the quesadilla ($19) thinking it would be a good sharing option and the ingredients in it sounded amazing (lechón, oaxaca cheese, avocado, mole, agave crema, cotija). I wish you could have seen our faces when they delivered the plate to the table with a single triangle sliver (see pic)... for $19. After I picked up my jaw off the table, I gave a it a taste and sadly it was not even hot. This dish was probably the biggest disappointment. Then we had the pulpo (octopus confit) which luckily salvaged the meal and was fantastic ($27). Our server said it was one of his favorite things on the menu and I can see why. For our main dish, we decided to split an entree and went with the costilla (beef short ribs - $44). This was a nice portion for sharing and the meat was tender, but the sauce it was glazed in was pretty salty so I'm glad we split it. Now onto dessert which was the real star of the show for me. Always save room for the sweet stuff! I went with the torta de queso (goat cheesecake, passion fruit, mango gel, dark ganache) which was soooo creamy and delicious. My husband ordered the tres leches which had a beautiful presentation and was also very good. We thoroughly enjoyed the desserts! All in all, we ended up spending about $200 which was a hard pill to swallow on tapas style small plates that definitely left us wanting more. I would still go back and give it another try if the occasion was right and try some other things on the menu. read more

I love when restaurants hype up the chef and explain where they came from and how well their other restaurants are doing, it's sets the stage for a great experience. The decor is stunning. I'd love to host a celebration here or even just hang out on the patio or at the bar for their happy hour because the vibes here just put you in a great mood. Let's get into the food. Might I say the croquettas were the best I've ever had...so fresh and the shrimp really shined in this dish. The arugula salad was great, even my husband was shocked at how much he loved this salad, the lechon on here was amazing. I spent Valentine's Day here and it was a really pleasant experience. The lobster Lagusta was delicious. It came with an almost lobster bisque cream sauce on top that was really good. The chocolate dessert that we got was also delicious. It came with a banana flavored ice cream on top that complemented the chocolate cake perfectly. And the complementary bread was some of the best restaurant bread that I've had. The atmosphere was always beautiful and very aesthetically pleasing. Since we came on Valentine's Day, we saw staff at the front taking pictures for couples, and that was very nice to see. My only complaints are that the serving sizes are small. For example, the croquetas were extremely small; bite-size. Also, the tres leches wasn't that good. The cake was a little rough And not super moist for what tres leches should be. And finally, I thought that some of the dishes were a little overpriced for what you were getting. But overall i enjoyed our dinner and I will be back. read more

What a beautiful space! The inside is immaculate I could have just hung out at the bar all night and enjoyed (which does have access to the full menu). We didn't have a reservation but the nice staff was able to accommodate a table of two. Each dish we tried was delicious with classic Puerto Rican ingredients. The croquetas were a perfect mix of sweet and salty and I would definitely get again. The crab cake was a nice portion with such a yummy sauce. Chayote is located in the Winter Park Village area right across the way from Cheesecake Factory. We made reservations ahead of time as we'd dinner know how busy it would be but thankfully it wasn't crowded at all. The ambiance is very warm with beautiful neutrals and brass. Now on to the food & drink. My husband ordered the Paloma Rosa, which he absolutely loved! We had the bolitos (cheese balls with papaya crisps), the chayote (shrimp salad), vegan Sancocho and the Cordero (lamb dish). The shrimp salad was nice and flavorful! I was sad to look down at my plate to realize it was all gone! My sub and absolutely loved his lamb and the sides that came with it! My only issue with the food was that the vegan Sancocho didn't really have as much flavor as I expected it to. Overall it was a great experience here and I will definitely come back! read more

A friend and I sat at the bar during peak dinner hours and the service was exceptional. We ordered a bottle of wine and settled in to take a look at the food menu. They had exceptional wine and beverage offers on the menu. We ended up ordering the lechon and the arroz con pollo (two Puerto Rican classics that I love). Both of the dishes were phenominal in flavor and presentation. I love the sophisticated and elevated take on classic Hispanic dishes. The design of the interior was also incredibly beautiful, from the flooring to the wallpaper and the design of the booths and layout. Chayote is fire! The decor is gorgeous! They really used every inch of the lot to maximize their square footage and also draw you into their beautiful establishment. I was lucky enough to secure a spot when they first opened. My hubby and I had a fantastic date night and looked forward to dressing up and get out. The bar is the main focus open entering and our bartender was on point. She made our mojitos and I thought I was back in San Juan again. IYKYK. So tasty. My husband ordered from the regular menu and had the pork chops and I opted the magical dining. I had the coconut shrimp for appetizer and short ribs and chocolate cake for dessert. Our friend had the crisp rice and chicken and pulpo for appetizer. The flower cocktail and Cortadito (espresso martini) were delicious. All the dishes were seasoned and presented very well. The only complain is the pork chop was a bit overdone, so it's dry, thank goodness for the sauce. Service started great but it got slow after the main course. Came for a friends birthday and was pleasantly surprised at the beautiful restaurant. The dim lighting isn't great for pictures but the ambiance was good to sit and enjoy a meal with friends. We had the boletas to start and while they are small, they're good for sharing and are quite tasty. I got the churrasco and it was so tender and the Yukon machego mashed potatoes were delicious! I had a couple of bites of the chocolate torta before being too full but I really enjoyed the rum banana ice cream that accompanied it. My husband and I chose Chayote for our anniversary dinner, and while I was ultimately disappointed, I have to commend their follow-up service. We arrived early for our 7:30 reservation, knowing we'd likely need to wait until our reserved time. However, we stood there for 15-17 minutes before anyone even greeted us, and we noticed another couple with a 7:00 reservation was waiting as well. Once seated, the food was hit or miss. I love crab cakes, but theirs left much to be desired. On the plus side, the beef dish was unique with a nice sweetness, but unfortunately, my husband didn't enjoy any of his selections. Our server even forgot to bring one of the drinks we ordered. The real saving grace came afterward. Chayote allows you to fill out a survey on your experience, and the very next day, the store manager reached out. They offered a way to ensure a better experience if we return, which was appreciated and showed a real commitment to service recovery. All in all, the experience was sadly disappointing, especially for such a special occasion, but the follow-up was impressive. It's a three-star experience for me because while I felt let down by the food and initial service, the manager's responsiveness made a difference. My recent visit to Chayote Barrio Kitchen was, unfortunately, a disappointment. As a Puerto Rican and someone familiar with authentic Puerto Rican flavors, I came in with high expectations. The restaurant's reputation, led by renowned chef Mario Pagan, promised a top-tier experience. I was prepared for the premium price point, and this review is focused purely on the quality and experience--not on the cost. To start, our server Cristal provided excellent service, and her attentiveness was a highlight. I ordered soda water, and she brought San Pellegrino. I quickly mentioned that I didn't prefer it, requesting Perrier, but was informed they only carried the San Pellegrino brand. When I then asked if they had soda water from the bar, I was told they didn't, which was surprising for a full bar that likely has CO2. This seemed a bit dismissive of a simple preference and was an uncomfortable start. I asked if they offered bread with the meal, as many upscale restaurants do. Cristal mentioned that it's only brought to the table if guests specifically ask for it, which could easily leave guests unaware of its availability. Once it arrived, I found it delicious, but it would be more welcoming if offered upfront. For appetizers, we ordered the Alcapurrias and Yuca Frita. The Alcapurrias were well-executed and flavorful, but the Yuca Frita was disappointing--bland, not crunchy, and undercooked. Neither my wife nor I wanted a second bite. When we pointed this out, Cristal was apologetic and promptly removed the dish from our table. Our next round of appetizers included the Bolitas de Queso, which were served with a garnish that overshadowed the cheese flavor, and sorullos that didn't deliver an authentic taste. The main course, Arroz con Pollo Pegaíto, was a letdown as well. It arrived cold, which detracted from the dish, and the flavors were far from what I expect in a classic arroz con pollo--a dish that, when done right, should be both comforting and packed with flavor. For dessert, we tried the Chocolate Torta, which lacked depth of flavor and was served in a very small portion, making the ending to our meal as underwhelming as the rest. This was, overall, a disappointing experience at a restaurant that seemed highly overrated given its reputation. While I always appreciate the chance to revise my opinion with future visits, I'm uncertain whether I would return based on this experience. read more
