I'm writing this review as music blasts in the background. It's a Saturday night at 10:15 and a band called Tropical Fuck Storm is headlining. My husband loves this band which is why I'm here. After a couple of high noons I decide I'm a bit hungry as I haven't had dinner yet and decide to venture out and order some food from the bar. I ordered my steak frites with pink but it came without pink. Despite this, it still had a good flavor. The frites on the other hand were simply French fries; despite the menu showing them as truffle fries. Overall if you're looking for an elevated "drunk meal" and here for a concert and to help soak up some alcohol before the ride home- I'd say it's absolutely worth it. Just to set the expectation going in, know that this isn't your typical, stuffy steak place. Remember that you're going to Deep Ellum, and it's much more of a DE spot than it is like most other steak places you'll visit. We went for an early dinner before seeing a musical at Fair Park. While not really dressed up, we were definitely more dressed up than we needed to be. It's a casual place with a very casual, relaxing (other than the loud, thumping music the DJ was playing) vibe. Roll-top garage doors were open, and while it was a sweltering day outside, it wasn't bad in the open-air establishment. If you don't like steak, you shouldn't go here because that's pretty much all they have. Also, know that current prices are a few dollars more than what you'll see on Yelp or even on their website right now for some reason. That should be updated. Also, the name should perhaps be changed to 'Cheaper Steaks' as it's cheaper than traditional steak places but not really all that cheap. My wife and I both had the filet. $23.99 on the web, but $25.99 in person. They were cooked well but rather small. Not sure it was actually 6 ounces, especially mine, which was smaller than my wife's cut. One daughter had the butcher's steak. $17.99 online, $19.99 in person. I thought it was good, but I think she found it just fair and decided after she should just stick with a filet.l when ordering steak. The other daughter enjoyed her chopped steak sandwich. I think it was $1 more than listed online. Everyone enjoyed their truffle fries. Cut thin and a pretty good serving size. We also added an order of the charred broccolini. $7.99 online, $8.99 in person. Also, know that they will charge you for anything extra you want. Any type of substitution is a $3-$4 up-charge. A small cup of ranch dressing for a dipping sauce was $1.50. Also, one daughter asked for a water along with her lemonade. The water machine was broken, so they were 'giving' bottled water instead. Water is given...for $2, so she was charged for two drinks. Everything was good, and service was pleasant and consistent throughout. However, I'm not sure if I consider just under $150 for four entrees, one side, four sodas, tax, and tip to be 'cheap.' If we were in the area and really craving steak, perhaps we'd try it again, but guessing not. read more

TLDR; not worth walking thru the door, turn back Came in on a Wednesday night minutes before Happy Hour. I asked the waitress if we could still do happy hour and she said we'd be able to slide in. If I'm asking about the happy hour, it would click for some to share what is and isn't on there. When I look at the sign it says "signature cocktails", if the menu only has one section for drinks.. one would think these are their signature cocktails. If burgers are 1/2 off, you'd think anything under the burger section is half off. Needless to say I just spent $45 on the worst buffalo wings and sliders I've ever had. This was probably the worst deep ellum experience I have ever had. My friend heard about this place from a coworker so we decided to try it. You would think that your food would be affordable but it wasn't CHEAP STEAKS. It was horrible steaks. We got there at 8:50. We asked if your server had good memory because we were ready to order. Mind you, it took forever for them to even come and take our order. There was only about 5 other tables there. It shouldn't have taken them that long to take our order. Anyways, we ordered three steaks, two with fries and one with Au Gratin potatoes. We also added the enhancements for our steaks, one truffle butter and two garlic herb. Then we ordered Brussels sprouts and a loaded baked potato. They were out of broccolini. That's fine, whatever. We also ordered our steaks medium rare. Anyways, tell me why we never received our food and other tables have gotten their food before us. An hour and a half of waiting and we still didn't get our food! They told us that they would give us a round of shots for waiting, okay cool thank you. Finally our food comes. We got TWO out of the THREE steaks we ordered. So my friend is extremely hungry and annoyed at this time. The steaks we got were dry as hell and they were basically done. DRY AND WELL. I literally only ate it because I was hungry and it was my only real meal I had. Oh, and our steaks came out WITHOUT any enhancements. No truffle butter, no garlic herb. Such a disappointment. The steak was terrible I had to drench my steak in A1 steak sauce. The sides were better than the steaks. Let me tell you about the loaded baked potato. It wasn't loaded. I'll tell you that. The potato came with cheese and sour cream. No bacon, no chives. Literally a waste of your money. There was only 3 of us and our bill came out to almost $300. Make that make sense Cheapsteaks. We ordered a few rounds of shots but they were wells. They were the cheapest tequila shots. Not only that, they said they'd give us free shots for waiting OVER AN HOUR AND A HALF FOR OUR FOOD. We didn't even get our steak enhancements. How did our bill come out to be that much? We asked for an itemized receipt twice and they wouldn't give it to us. We finally had to go up to the bar to ask for it and it took them FOREVER. The only good thing about this place was the music they were playing. The live music comes on at 11pm I guess. It was so hot we had to move outside to get relief which says a lot since it was the end of August. I hate not giving this place 5 stars, because the staff was so nice. My friend and I were greeted on a Saturday night and seated immediately. The wait-staff was overly accommodating and wore the sincerest of smiles. My friend got the sirloin and I indulged in a $24 filet mignon. I was in for a huge surprise--the sirloin was 10 times more tender and flavorful as the filet. I was expecting to cut the filet with a spoon but in fact needed a chain saw. The chewiness of the filet left me flabbergasted--thinking we couldn't have been in Texas. "I should've just got the sirloin," I said to myself as I eyed my friend's 8 oz, perfectly charred steak. One of the best places to go in Deep Ellum! My experience is only based on Friday or Saturday nights. The door guys are very nice (and very tall, which means you're in a safe and protected environment). All they care about is your safety, and none of that PC bulls$%t which means you can be yourself and JUST HAVE FUN! We've always have a great time there, and it has become one of our FAVORITE PLACES in deep ellum. We have never had any issues, and have never seen a fight there. The music is lively and upbeat, crowd is good, there are no cover charge, and the drinks are decently priced as it would be any where else on that strip. I had read about this place last night and thought I would come here, since they're open till 2 AM, and have some steak. I drove here from my home thinking it would be nice and relaxing. When I arrived, I found parking right up front. I noted that the windows on my car were were vibrating already from the sound coming from this place. I entered the front door into a great big room. it was completely empty except for a DJ who was playing music incredibly too loud. To my left was a bar area with about three people in it. No one was speaking but what would be the point with the palpable audio. Honestly I don't know how they were able to even order drinks. There were no real tables to sit anywhere other than 3-4 bar height tables in front of the bar. But there was a sign that said "patios open please seat yourself. ". I immediately proceeded to the patio to get away from The offensive sound. I've been sitting back here roughly 22 minutes now. I don't think anyone even knows I'm back here. Ive not seen a single other person. Employee or other, since I "seated myself" as directed by the entry sign. The music is still too damn loud - even outside on the patio. I really am hungry; I've tried to call them on the number posted on their website and it immediately goes to voicemail. Responsively, I looked them up on Facebook: the number listed there , on their business profile, offered me equal results. Nothing. I would go inside and ask for a menu, but frankly I already have a headache from walking through initially.... "Supposed to be chasing money but you chasing bitches. She likes to argue so I sent that bitch to law school...". It's not my intent to sound like a Karen. Id like to think I'm very normal. I'm 41 gay white guy. I like to smoke cigarettes and occasionally drink in excess on the weekend. I have a pet cactus named Elmer and an irrational fear of spiders. My point? Started out thought it was a great place. Friend band was playing an "all ages show" and being a single father of two children I was elated! 1. My children and I were all expected to pay 10$ each. Ok sure I'll support the bands.... 2. Food was over priced and underwhelming, however the waiter and bartender were great playing with and talking to my kids. 3. Im autistic, so my reactions and responses aren't always the same as other people....my kids get out of hand I tend to have issues realizing the volume and intensity I talk to them.....the owner comes and tells me to "keep it down" I respond something along the lines of ok I'll try sorry have to get my kids attention sometimes. 4. The door man, minutes after we go back outside, tells us that "club hours" start in 5 minutes at 9:30, it's 9:18 at the time.....I mention it's an "all ages show" and he says he doesn't know what to tell me 5. Other kids are coming in as we are told this.... I will never be a patron at this establishment! They are ableists that discriminated against a single autistic father. read more

The main reason why I give it 1 star is because what happened after our meal when we went to pay. While our card was being ran we asked why our bill was so high. The waitress ONLY THEN DISCLOSED they charge automatic gratuity of 20% after 10 pm, which is weird because we didn't see that on the electronic menu. When I mentioned it didn't say that on the menu, nor did the waitress mention that when we sat down. The waitress got an attitude and said the sign was posted at the bar. I said, "We came straight in and sat at a table. The sign isn't prominently visible walking in (I would later find out the sign was hidden from view at then entry by a partition at the bar), and you had staff bringing our drinks. When we're we supposed to see the sign? We tip when we go out but it's strange to find out you had an up charge when you're paying your bill. It should probably be disclosed before. " The waitress went on to say that's their policy along with the policy of holding peoples cards on Friday and Saturday's and not letting them leave the bar when they order drinks on those days. She said they had a problem with people tipping and paying. I've worked at another bar/eatery on this street on the same block previously. We never seemed to have those problems enough that justified automatic gratuities (let alone automatic gratuities we didn't warn our customers about in advance) and alleging we hold customers captive at the bar until they finished and paid for their drinks. The tap water tastes like old elementary school fountain water. Avoid it at all costs. Their margarita was good. The food was decent and filling. It's a shame the automatic gratuities sign was small and hidden from view when you're entering the bar. It's a shame our server didn't mention it when she came to take our orders or at any point during our meal until we noticed the increased charge on the bill. But really it was her offended response when I suggested they should probably let customer know about their policy when they have come to eat. This was my first time here and the interaction with the waitress at the end spoiled what was a pleasant enough experience until then. We were a party of three. I should've known to leave when the waiter told us half the menu wasn't available before he even introducing himself. $200+ later I regret ever stepping foot in this place. Horrible food and even worse service. 2 tables in the entire restaurant and we had to wait 40 min for clean silverware, AFTER we received our food (which arrived incomplete and 30-60 min after we ordered it.) By then the food was cold. But we were given plastic utensils since the silverware from the night before was "just getting washed" AT 4PM! Still, no complaints, because it was Mother'a Day and who's going to complain on a day that you spoil your mom? We smiled and kept her in good spirits, even joked with our waiter a bit. Until we realized that more than half of our order was missing. We had to ask the waiter multiple times for things like our drinks, our multiple missing food orders, and condiments. Things we initially asked for when we ordered, but it was clear he was still so high or hungover from the night before to remember simple things like water and forks. My mom jokingly asked the waiter Damien about the food rush, because there was less than 10 people inside (our table and a family of 3), and it was dead the past hour and a half we were there. He immediately gave her attitude and said "Well what are you expect on a Sunday? Sounds like a typical restaurant to me." I mean yes it does sound like a "Typical" restaurant but this isn't a typical restaurant. It's an empty bar with cheap restaurant. Why are you being rude to my mom on Mother's Day? She was cracking a joke and bantering as we were earlier. This isn't an"Typical restaurant" experience. I've been working at restaurants since I was 16. As a busser, hostess, waitress, and in the kitchen (Actually paid my way through college waitressing so I get it) but rule #1 in restaurant industry is, "the customer may not be right but you don't give them attitude" and condescending answers when they're paying over $200 for fatty cheap steaks and cold fries. You say "I'm sorry about that and I hope we can make it better next time." Instead we were berated by the waiter and then the cook/manager who resembled a spry Melissa McCarthy in her heyday. They asked us if we wanted a discount on the sodas we ordered (we had 1 Coke.) We didn't want a discount at all. We actually didn't have a problem but after multiple back to back issues and then to receive such a degrading experience from our waiter, we wanted to bring it to the attention of the manager. But that was a big mistake. I would not suggest going to this place. I am very loyal to my waitstaff as I've been in their position before. It really hurt to have to complain & write this review, but the food and service were reprehensible for an empty restaurant on a rainy afternoon. read more
