I should've known to leave when the waiter told us half the menu wasn't available before he even introducing himself. $200+ later I regret ever stepping foot in this place. Horrible food and even worse service. 2 tables in the entire restaurant and we had to wait 40 min for clean silverware, AFTER we received our food (which arrived incomplete and 30-60 min after we ordered it.) By then the food was cold. But we were given plastic utensils since the silverware from the night before was "just getting washed" AT 4PM! Still, no complaints, because it was Mother'a Day and who's going to complain on a day that you spoil your mom? We smiled and kept her in good spirits, even joked with our waiter a bit. Until we realized that more than half of our order was missing. We had to ask the waiter multiple times for things like our drinks, our multiple missing food orders, and condiments. Things we initially asked for when we ordered, but it was clear he was still so high or hungover from the night before to remember simple things like water and forks. My mom jokingly asked the waiter Damien about the food rush, because there was less than 10 people inside (our table and a family of 3), and it was dead the past hour and a half we were there. He immediately gave her attitude and said "Well what are you expect on a Sunday? Sounds like a typical restaurant to me." I mean yes it does sound like a "Typical" restaurant but this isn't a typical restaurant. It's an empty bar with cheap restaurant. Why are you being rude to my mom on Mother's Day? She was cracking a joke and bantering as we were earlier. This isn't an"Typical restaurant" experience. I've been working at restaurants since I was 16. As a busser, hostess, waitress, and in the kitchen (Actually paid my way through college waitressing so I get it) but rule #1 in restaurant industry is, "the customer may not be right but you don't give them attitude" and condescending answers when they're paying over $200 for fatty cheap steaks and cold fries. You say "I'm sorry about that and I hope we can make it better next time." Instead we were berated by the waiter and then the cook/manager who resembled a spry Melissa McCarthy in her heyday. They asked us if we wanted a discount on the sodas we ordered (we had 1 Coke.) We didn't want a discount at all. We actually didn't have a problem but after multiple back to back issues and then to receive such a degrading experience from our waiter, we wanted to bring it to the attention of the manager. But that was a big mistake. I would not suggest going to this place. I am very loyal to my waitstaff as I've been in their position before. It really hurt to have to complain & write this review, but the food and service were reprehensible for an empty restaurant on a rainy afternoon. read more

There are so many restaurants open in the Deep Ellum area. They all have something they're serving that is unique and niche, so the options are literally ENDLESS. CheapSteaks is no exception, and is a welcome and needed addition to the area! The menu is very self-explanatory and the quality of all of their food is fantastic. We also tried their jalapeno and hummus appetizer and it had a slight kick without it feeling unbearable. Great way to get yourself ready for some juicy steak! We each had a steak entree that also comes with truffle fries, and the quality was there. Meat was cooked exactly what we asked for and the truffle fries were pretty addicting. Portions were perfect for a quick meal. If you're hanging around the area and need a quality meal without breaking the bank, I would HIGHLY recommend dropping by this restaurant. My husband and I finally got to try CheapSteaks this evening and are very happy we did! Our filet mignon was cooked to perfection and truffle fries were SO good. I am a meat eater and surprisingly, really enjoyed the vegan lasagna, too. We will be back very soon - bummed that we missed the live music entertainment! Thank you for a wonderful experience guys! This place is amazing. It's the first place I found when I moved here. It has yet to disappoint. The brussel sprouts are, hands down, the best I've ever had. The lemon flavor is excellent. Fries are awesome every time. The steak is always perfectly cooked, and I love the garlic and herb butter on top. Stopped in looking vide a good steak with $$$ price tag. I was excited to happen upon this place. Ordered the New York Strip with a baked potato AND a margarita. This place is on Elm Street across from Shoals and is pretty low key- I almost walked right by it. It gives dive bar( dark, disco ball, wooden tables) vibes when entering so don't be surprised by that. They have a Large window( one of those pull down garage door like ), but because it was already dark, didn't add much. The drink was good- a good balance- not sour and not too strong. The steak was fantastic!!! This will definitely be my go to spot for steaks at a great price. Only wish there was more light in the place. read more

Cheap Steaks is the best concept ever. I almost hate that it exists and I didn't think of it. I got the strip medium rare and it was seasoned perfectly. Don't be fooled by the location. The chef and crew have a pretty impressive pedigree. This is a great steak house with a rock n roll attitude. If you're traveling to dallas on business, this is a def great dallas experience. Okay, love this place. We frequently have late night work events and a steak here is the best seasoned steak and sides at 10 pm. Tonight asked the bar for a little night cap...Tyler made me a night cap martini with some hazelnut and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Wish I had taken a pic of the butcher cut steaks we got...perfectly cooked medium and medium rare. Ask if they have the scalloped potatoes. It is to die for even if not on the menu. read more

Let me start off by saying, as a Marketing/PR professional, I've called this business several times trying to speak to management before posting this review. If I could give 0 stars I would. I took several mothers here for mothers day because they "Didn't want to do anything fancy" and that's exactly what we got. There were only two people in this place when we arrived. The waiter(Damien) immediately told us that he was about to get off of his shift and made us feel rushed to order. Our food was cold and the steaks were overcooked. We were told that we could not get dining utensils because they were still being washed from the night before. Let me remind you, we arrived 5 pm and there was a total of 7 people in the establishment. Our food finally arrived and all my daughter ordered was a baked potato. Everyone else had a baked potato included on their plate and they stated hers would be last. When I asked to speak to management Damien was very rude and disrespectful and asked if "I wanted a discount or if I was trying to reprimand him?" I never mentioned or asked for a discount. I wouldn't go to this place again if it was free. If the service was at this level when it was empty, I could imagine what it would be like if there were 12 people patronizing the place at the same time :/ read more

Wow this was honestly one of the best meals I've had in a while, especially when you take into account the price of everything! We ordered the butcher and NY strip steaks medium rare - they normally come with fries but we subbed the Brussel sprouts which were super light and crispy due to being deep fried and the grilled broccolini were delicious- and everything including the steaks was perfectly salted - the cook on the butcher steak was absolutely perfect. The thin cut of the NY strip made getting a great sear on it impossible - It was fine but the butcher streak was as good as any steak I've had from any of the major steakhouses in dallas. This place is dirty, smells of sewage, has rude staff, porta potties for restrooms, is obviously disorganized and not run well, and management makes sarcastic and dismissive comments on their bad reviews, of which there are many and that all say the same things. I would hope they'd listen when they give customers food poisoning and there are others showing their undercooked burgers. But their response was an assurance that all their food is fresh and cooked properly - there are reviews and reviews complaining about crappy steaks cooked poorly. I stopped in for an early lunch on a Friday. Don't let the name fool you. While I believe all the entrees are under $20, the quality of the food is excellent. I started with a Caesar Salad that was fresh and flavorful. I had a NY Strip that was cooked to my order. The steak was more tender than I expect from that cut and I really enjoyed it.
