Your website says the hours are 7am to 9pm. I walked in at 8:40pm tonight, after a movie at The Oriental . . . and was told the kitchen closes at 8:30 (and that, consequently, no new customers are taken after 8:30). A respectful, professional establishment wouldn't tell the world that they're open until 9 when they're really only open until 8:30. It's nice to know that you're doing so well that you think you can afford to treat the public with so little consideration, and can turn away customers (for good). read more

Considering this is a diner, I wasn't expecting the food to be amazing - and it wasn't. However, the creamy bacon potato soup I got as a side to my meal was pretty tasty. There are large portions but a reasonable price, so good value if you're looking for something quick and cheap. I came with a group of friends when the restaurant wasn't busy, so we were attended to quickly and got great service - our food came out within 30mins of ordering. The place was very chill and quiet during our visit. The restaurant is located in a central location on the upper east side so it's convenient to get to other places. I'll be honest, I live close to this restaurant and never go here. In fact, I think I only went there once or twice a super long time ago. It's been on my list of places to try again. My partner and I stopped by for brunch on a Saturday and were seated right away. I've looked at their menu online before and things looked good but then they seemed over priced which is probably why I didn't go sooner. I guess that's kind of how it is these days but for a diner like Ma Fischer's I wasn't expecting fancy food or prices to match. Our server was great, super nice and helpful. My bf went with the biscuits and gravy which was a lot of food but he chose the chorizo version per the server's recommendation. I tried a bite, it was okay, but didn't have any spice and wasn't anything to dream of. I went with the omelet and hash browns/toast. Pretty basic, I could have made that at home and better tbh. So for us, just a lackluster meal that could have been made at home for less. I don't see myself going there any time in the near future. Often when I would be at the Oriental Theatre at the other end of the block, I would contemplate stopping at Ma Fischer's for a late night snack. I was recently able get stop before a movie I was seeing and dine in for dinner instead. I got mozzarella sticks and, since you can order breakfast all day long, a build your own breakfast burrito with bacon, egg, cheese, and spinach. The mozzarella sticks were Italian breaded and clearly out a box. Nothing special, but they hit the spot. The breakfast burrito was ok. I've had better, but I've had worse as well. The hashbrowns that came with the burrito were bland and needed salt and pepper. I wish they had been a little crispier. I heard my server complain to another that a different table didn't leave a tip for them. Sorry to hear that, but it's also not something you should be mentioning within earshot of customers. My first time here I tried the hot turkey and left unimpressed, but this visit was a totally different experience. We were seated right away, and just like before, the service was quick and super friendly. The exposed brick and old-school touches in the kitchen pass-through give it a nostalgic charm, but everything is also clean and well-kept. The soup came out fast, and honestly, it was the star of the meal. The broth had great depth of flavor, and the dumplings were soft and satisfying. I would go here for a late night meal but could not include this place in my rotation of restaurants just because its comfort food that I could make at home and its really for convenience. The portions are large but always cost at least 10$ for something I could make at home. Sometimes simple is good like when I ordered the fish tacos and it suprinsgly exceeded expectations even though it was low quality fish. Other times I compare my omelet/toast/hash browns to mad rooster and it really cant be compared because this food is nowhere close to even okay compared to mad rooster's omelete. This was my second time here, and the first time I came that's what the photos are from and it was very delicious I recommend it for me and my friends this morning, I didn't take any photos because of not seeing my friends in a while I got the chicken enchiladas and my buddy got the steak sandwich, and the enchiladas were good ! My problem came with the sides I got fried beans with cheese on top and there was mold on the cheese and since I ate the enchiladas prior they didn't want to do anything about it and my buddys steak sandwich half way through tasted like the steak was getting moldy it tasted like there was blue cheese on the sandwich. I feel like Ma Fischer's is more than three stars. And, honestly, it's a good three stars right now. We got curbside pickup, and food tends to a little "oomph" when you pick it up and take it home. The freshness isn't there - and that's not their fault. But it does factor into my review for now. I got the french dip. It was decent. Not "great", but not "I'll never have this again". I do wonder what it would be like delivered fresh to a table. Maybe I'll find out someday. I was pleased by the array of sides that came with my meal. I got to pick between fries or fruit. I was craving some fruit, so I went that route - it was decent (for February in Wisconsin!). But wait! There's more! I got a shot of cole slaw too. And I mean, literally, a shot-glass sized portion. Maybe less. Basically a taste. It was okay - not my favorite, but good enough. I would have preferred more. It also included a cup of soup. I had a choice of beef barley or chicken dumpling - two of my favorites. I stayed with the beef theme and went that route. It was okay - more tomato-based than beefy, but it was alright. My son got the chicken dumpling, which I tasted. It was really good, and I would most definitely get that next time. Oh, and don't forget the pickle-on-the-side to round things out. If you don't like pickle flavor on your fries or sandwich, you might want to ask for it packaged separately, or just request no pickle. It rides along in the main container, getting its flavor on everything. I'm okay with that, mostly. Turnaround time was very quick. After ordering, they told us 15 minutes, so we had to get ready and head out right away. Pickup was a little challenging. They were shoveling the parking lot, so we couldn't go in there. Out front, there were cars everywhere. We just threw on the hazards and called from the street. They ran out with the food - thankfully it was ready! Overall, I feel like this place could be a great source of comfort food for a bunch of people. Their large menu has something for everyone.
