In their website introduction they declare "a feast spot for all sun spotted heathens, nerds, musicians, collectors and all weirdos of all types skunky!", but in reality, anyone, including 'normal' people, will find the sub selections, bizarre names, distinctive ingredient combinations, the stores' aesthetics, the Bohemian staff and service a wonderful and all-around superb experience. When I walk into my fave location, I go back in time to a moment in my early years where Hippies roamed and avantgarde was my convention. Not to mention, the incredible subs are amazing. No one can walk away without having a fave or two! With so many offerings, with eats like Jamaican Red, Kali Mist, Panama Red, Magic Mushroom, Apollo 13, the 5-0, KGB or the AK-47 one takes their own transcendental eating trip not on drugs but in the ingredients therein! This was a mistake. I was looking for the taco place next door and accidentally stumbled into Cheba Subs. Too embarrassed to walk out after searching the menu board for tacos, I just went for a sub... the KGB roast beef and horseradish to be precise. OMG. It was amazing. Piled high on a garlic bun the flavors were impeccable. Some additional pluses: they put my name on a different table and they came looking for me... excellent service. The brew selection is small but well selected with some great small breweries. Also i left my card at the counter and the barista came looking for me. Then the ambiance is cool, hip, relaxed. I absolutely loved this place. I would love to see more places themed like this if possible. I had the Jamaican Red, which is a buffalo chicken sandwich, and it was really good. I began to crave it again after I landed back at LAX later that night. There is a bar inside, and I am unsure if this is open throughout the day, but on the Sunday morning when I went they had $3 mimosas, and yes, it was worth it! Everything about this restaurant was fun. The menu names, the mural above the cashier/kitchen, the stickers plastered all over the walls, or even the signage hanging throughout the restaurant. When I first heard about this restaurant and 'stoner' place, I didn't understand it and I was a little skeptical. Now having gone, I am glad I made this my final stop before heading back home. The food side of the experience was great. We ordered threw sandwiches for myself and some coworkers. Two White Widows and a 5-0. Everyone had great things to say about the food. I had a "Red" Widow which is just a spicy White Widow. It had chicken breast, bacon, ranch, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles. I added jalapeños and cucumbers on the garlic roll. The bread was crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle and was toasted well. Contents of the sandwich were warm and up to par. Great taste a little messy so get some napkins! The downside was the wait! We ordered a pick up and were told to be there at 1145. We arrived at 1155 and they came out for our order and said it would be a few minutes. 10 minutes... 15 minutes... 20 minutes... Finally they came out! Many cars came and went before us unfortunately. Benefit of the doubt with all the craziness going on. Cheba Hut's toasty subs are so delicious! All of the "veggie" ones can be made vegan if you leave off the cheese (including the Parmesan they shake on at the end) and order them on wheat bread. The white bread is not vegan. My default is the Silver Haze, pinner size - nug is just too small. The bread is crusty but no so much that it destroys your mouth. I love the veggie toppings, especially the solid chunks of pickle, and the hummus is tasty. It's perfect vegan comfort food. If only they had some vegan munchies or a better selection of vegan chips, I'd eat here even more! Parking can be especially rough at this location - beware. You may have to park up the street and hike a bit if you go at lunchtime. Online ordering is easy though, and the staff are always super friendly and helpful. read more

I placed a phone order and ordered 2 sandwiches. The person who took my order said it would be ready in 20 mins, awesome! My order was placed at 7:07pm. I got there and the cashier checked on my order and said "oh, it'll be about 10 more minutes." Ok no big deal. 8:00 comes and they hadn't even started on it. At that point I had asked for a refund. They wouldn't or couldn't give it to me. They needed a managers approval and the manager "was on break" and wouldn't be back until 8:20. The cashier literally said "there's no communication here". I don't know why they told me 20 minutes when my order wasn't even ready until 8:10. They had 4 people making sandwiches and one guy even was dancing to N'sync. I've heard good things about this place so I decided to check it out with a couple of my friends. Now mind you this place is open pretty late and we arrived at this venue around 11 o'clock at night. My expectations were not high I did not think my sandwich was going to be made with love and I'm happy to say I was wrong. This place is located downtown not too far from the freeway. Parking as usual since it's downtown is horrendous. There's a couple of places to park on the side of the venue but other than that you're parking down the street and in residential areas. You can spot this place by the super cute bus in front. I posted a couple of pictures of it, the bus is so cute. Did I mention the bus is cute.
