Originally my go to spot for good kebabs is in Brooklyn (Nargis) but I have tried many places in queens that serve uzbeki food, specifically kebabs, plov, samsa and chebureki. And so far, for queens, this place tops them all. The chebureki are not greasy at all, instead crispy and bursting with the juice from the meat (literally bursting, have a few napkins on hand). The kebabs, beef/lamb/chicken and liver were all tender. Sea bass kebab is good but needs a sauce to go with it, otherwise it just taste too fishy. The fresh salad is one of its kind, it literally had all the vegetables you could imagine in it, not really to my liking, I was expecting just some cucumbers, tomatoes and onions, but hey everyone has their preferences. The overall atmosphere is very stalovaya/cafeteria like, with bright white lights and lack of decor. The service is quick and comes with a great Russian smile (bitchy resting face). Food: Second time I tried a kosher/Russian/middle eastern food and it was much better than the first time. All the kebabs were juicy as hell and served with onions drizzled with olive oil, personal favorites include lamb and chicken (I once ordered quail, expecting pieces of meat, you get the whole damn bird, so just a heads up). The green pilaf must be cooked for hours on end because you can taste the spices on each kernel of rice. Fries with garlic and mushrooms was average. Flavor is there but the fries aren't fried so well, soggy. If getting samcy, get it with lamb. Awesome lamb flavor if you dig that kind of stuff. The samcy is also baked well, nice firm outer layer of dough, not crunchy like fried food or soft like jello. The manty is just packed with meat, thin layer of dough. Kind of like quality wontons you find in Asia, but like 5 times the size. Even the simple order of bread you order is made so well. The only down side is that all the food is extremely salty. I kind of overlook it cause I eat here like once every 2 or 3 months, so it's not a daily thing. Drink: Never tried the teas, but heard it was good. Always had to fill up on water due to salty food. Service: Average. They sometimes forget about you since they are busy chatting. Just call them over and they come. Careful on check, they may add service charge sometimes. Crowd/Ambiance: Locals and Russians there. The decor is diner like, down to the Plexiglas over the table cloth. Spacious seating and table space. Windows completely line one side, so good sunlight during the day. TV's playing Russian news all the time. read more

The other day we were walking to our landlord office to talk to them about certain things and all the sudden I saw this place and couldn't tell what kind of restaurant that is so of course I look it up on yelp and found it to be Balkan food which I don't remember having so afterward we came here to try. We got the fried dough w/beef which was delicious and also the dumplings was nice. One thing that I don't enjoy eating with the pumpkin wrap in dough. It didn't taste as good as the other things that I try. Also I try a Russa beer which was good but strong. Overall this place is ok, nothing to brag about but nothing to complain too. Conveniently located on 63rd Drive, in the heart of Rego Park, Cheburechnaya is the would-be ideal place to grab a bite to eat if you're a resident who passes this usually packed establishment on a daily basis. Living around the corner from the place, I usually pass it at least two times on a given day. When I first moved to Rego Park in 2005, I used to pass by multiple times a day, often with a Jewish friend. Always seeing that Cheburechnaya had a high volume of diners, we were interested in trying it out. We knew it was Bukharian joint and we were eager to try their fare. Finally, in December of 2005, we set a date, dressed nicely, and went for dinner. This place is casual, but we wanted to look nice. Upon arriving to the restaurant, we waited at the door to be seated. After waiting for a few minutes, we realized that the people behind us were seated first. We didn't make a big deal as they were speaking Russian, and we obviously didn't know whether we were being snubbed or if they had a reservation. Anyway, after noticing that they were not particularly crowded, we figured we might ask for a table in the center of the place as there were empty tables in every section of the restaurant. Instead, we were seated directly next to the door, leaves blowing into our water and onto our menus. It was quite cold and I don't know why we didn't just take a hint and get out of there as soon as possible. When the waitress finally decided to stop chatting with another worker, she finally took our order. When we asked her questions about the food, or what she recommended, she could not be bothered. She was very rude and unprofessional and had a bad attitude. We ordered 4 chicken kabobs and 4 beef; a pea soup and a couple of salads. We did not order much because as you can read, our experience there was less than satisfactory. Around a half hour later our food arrived. Much to my dismay, my kabobs were both burned and cold. They brought all of the kabobs on one plate and did not give us individual plates to serve ourselves. We ended up eating our terribly inedible food over the tablecloth, leaves strewn across our table and food. The service here was absolutely abysmal! The waitress never asked how our food was, and it was damn near impossible to get her attention when we needed to. She practically slammed our check on the table, which conveniently enough, did not accurately document what we ate and just showed the prices of what we ordered. We sort of expected this from the jump and asked for an explanation of the check. The prices did not in any way reflect that of those on the menu. Everything we ordered was increased by 50 cents to a dollar. The waitress then brought us a different menu than we had initially seen, with you guessed it, different, higher prices! Not only was this experience highly disappointing, it was very sad. We had been so excited to eat there. I hate to say it, but it really seems as though they have no desire of attracting locals or foodies. They seem perfectly content with serving only their "community" and mistreating those who are not a part of it. I can't remember having a worse experience at a restaurant. This is the first restaurant I have been in where I cannot pronounce the name even when people tell me what it is. Well who cares about that. All I know is that place is a find. Never knew it existed. I had to point to the menu items I wanted cause I don't speak russian but not a big deal. I think I pointed to the right items cause they were all damn good. I under-ordered cause I had no clue just how much food I was gonna get so I ordered (and pointed) some more. I wish I could have tried more things but I will next time. So far I had the Cheburech with meat. It was very moist and tasted mostly like lamb in a light dough surrounding the meat. I dont know how else to describe it but it was great. Next came the kababs. My wife and I ordered the shirt steak. - Outrageously good!! The luyla kebab which is basically minced meat packed together into a kebab - good too! The beef sweet bread kebab was so tasty and melted in your mouth - it really did melt!! The best thing I had that day was the Fat Free Lamb Ribs. I don't know how they do it cause ribs and fat free seems impossible to me but it was 4 chunks of rib on the bone that was grilled with seasoning and really had no fat. You could suck on the bones till the meat is gone. All of this plus 2 sodas, a spicy carrot salad and an order of bread. A mere $35! Not too shabby. I think when I go next time I will order tea since everyone else seemed to have it also. There must be something about the tea . They have like 6 televisions in the place all blasting Russian news or programming. So if you can take listening to people talk in a language that you cant understand but really like good food then I think you should give this place a try . My family always stops here on our way to or from JFK airport. it's incredible. Kosher, high-quality meat, seared on an open flame, accompanied with plenty of meat-filled pastries, crunchy sour salads, and other scrumptious dishes. You'll be really glad you came. My marker for telling whether a place is authentic or not is: if people from that cuisine's culture crowd the place, then it's the real deal. There are young people here downing cheap vodka and chasing it with Snapple, and also young families and . The waitstaff is always cordial and helpful in offering recommendations. They've got Uzbek youtube videos streaming on several flat-screen TVs I've eaten the chicken hearts, sweetbreads, and other strange delicacies. All were properly cooked and delicious. If you're feeling less adventurous, try the skirt steak, the lamb, chicken and the lubya kebab. The price is per skewer, so it's affordable and easy to order with variety in smaller portions. And with all the meat beckoning your tastebuds it's hard to remember the other dishes. Order the lagman soup. It's chock full of hearty meat, noodles, and vegetables. It is the most comforting dish, and tastes like your Uzbek/ Russian/ Jewish/ whatever grandmother made it. Also highly recommend the samsi and chebukeri dumplings. I don't know what that salsa that they serve with it, but it tastes good on everything. The only disappointment was the dessert. Not much to offer here. Chak Chak, their signature sweet noodle dish, was a little dry and tasted like sticky breakfast cereal. Come here for Bukharan Jewish food. The Bukharan Jews are a very old Jewish tribe living in Uzbekistan (who now reside mostly in Queens). You can get all kinds of kebabs, chebureki (pastries with meat), samsy (like samosas), and manti (dumplings). You can get odd varieties of the stuff, like lamb fat kebabs. The space is no frills, albeit large and spacious. The food is great, and I believe they have Kosher food here. I don't think you are going to find another place quite like this one. read more

Prices are unbelievably affordable. Meats grilled to perfection on a stick. Quail is my favorite. Fat free lamb ribs are also my fav. Saw another table ordering lamb fat, don't. It's lamb fat. I mean, if you are extremely skinny and like to eat fat, go for it. I am not and I felt the need to be on heart attack alert after eating/tasting that. Salad is good, nothing spectacular though. Somebody recommended this restaurant and I decided to give it a try. This place is very exotic. It is huge and has a lot of tables. The only thing I liked about the restaurant is probably the name. I am a vegetarian and there is literally nothing I can eat there except for a dozen of fried doughs.Some comes with lamb fat) . The doughs were HUUUUUGE and two of them will make your stomach explode. service was decent but extremely slow. In fact, (this is a little off topic) don't expect much service from ANY soviet immigrant-run establishments... So, now back to Cheburechnaya....the vibe is very easygoing, there's no decor whatsoever...there are just huge flat screen TVs on every corner of the HUGE dining room....showing russian tv and russian music videos...besides that, there's no decor - it's like a diner or cafeteria. But, the place is PACKED. It's packed with people of all nationalities. It's run by Bukharians (Central Asian people from former soviet union)...so of course, you'll find many Bukharians there, but there are also tons of Russians, Persians and Americans come here too. This place is Glatt Kosher - so for all you kosher eaters who want to find a good kosher restaurant, this is IT. So lemme just come outright and say why I think this place is great: It serves the BEST meat dishes for the BEST prices ever. Portions are small but so are prices. For example, one skewer of chicken kebab is around $3.50? It includes 4 or 5 pieces, but it's only $3.50, dammit!!!!!!!!!!!! And it's amazingly delicious! Like that commercial on the radio - it's thrilicious - thrilling and delicious at the same time cuz it's soooooooooooooooooo good. There is also a lot of variety of kebabs on their menu. You will literally find any kind of meat kebab, lamb kebab, veal kebab, beef kebab, chicken kebab, liver kebab (be it lamb's liver or veal's liver)....and this is just a listing of kebabs, they also have meats with bones, without bones, ground stuff (lulya kebabs)....etc etc etc. 10 or so different salads, variety of soups, fish entrees, etc etc. Of course, the restaurant's name stands for Cheburekis - which is a large fried meat dumpling - my favorite thing on earth!!! It's fattening - but soooooooooooo good, who cares! Just take ALLI (orlistat) before you come here....lol... Anyway, the delicious food, the prices, the fact that its always packed with interesting people of all nationalities..and the fact that all of a sudden they'll turn of the lights and play russian dance music that excites everyone in the room - makes this place a TOP RATED shish-kebab place in NYC. Very few places serve kebabs this good - and I'm including Manhattan.... Oh, and someone said in one of the reviews that they are closed on Saturdays. NO THEY ARE NOT CLOSED. They just open late - around 9pm - after Shabbat ends. We were just there tonight - and had a really grrrrreat time. THIS PLACE IS GREAT FOR GROUPS. If service is slow - just stand up and tell them and they'll take care of you in seconds...with Russians, you just have to be on their case a little to get what you need. It's the russian mentality. I've been wanting to go to this place for a while now if not for the name alone. I finally ventured in the other night and admittedly, I was a little nervous. After reading several reviews, I expected a cold, uncomfortable dining experience. But this was not the case at all. The restaurant is pretty spacious and comfortable. The decor is nothing exciting though I did appreciate the disco ball and random streamers hanging from the ceiling. Now the food. Most are single items on a plate. There are assorted dough items, salads, soups, kebabs, which are presented on long metal spears (pretty kick-ass), and other entrees. There is good and bad. Let's start with the good. We ordered the Cheburecki with Meat: kinda like a deep-fried empanada, delicious with ground meat on the inside, warm and comforting. The rice pilaf: mmm mmm good, flavorful with shredded carrots, chick peas, chunks of meat and spices. I highly recommend it. The chicken kebob: moist and tender with just enough flavor. And now the bad. The lamb kebob: the first couple of chews were pretty good, the final 100th just became annoying. So chewy.... The noni toki was literally a ginormous cracker. I wouldn't get it unless you were getting soup or something to go with it... The desert. I have no idea what it was called, but the waitress told us there was only one desert for the night and she described it as fried noodles with honey, it came in a large and a small. We ordered the small and thank goodness because it was awful. It does actually look like fried noodles mixed with honey or corn syrup and then smashed into a bowl and popped out. We tried to cut into and my friend actually broke his knife. I'm serious. It was hard as a rock and I think I have to make an appointment soon to see the dentist from trying to bite into and chew that sucker. We ate a quarter of it and gave up. Moral of the story, do not get the fried noodle dessert. The mediocre. The samcy with rib, which was a crispy, crunchy pastry with a single rib inside. Meh, it wasn't bad, but wasn't great. All in all, I would definitely go back to try the other things on the menu. I'm a Colombian woman that has a Russian man in my life. How could I not love the food from his culture? No seriously, I loveee Bukharian food. My favorite bukharian restaurant was closed so I decided to give this one a try. The food was good. I'm used to all foods having dill on them and here, nothing had dill which a a bit strange bc that's a staple in their food. I had the shurpa,manti, and the chicken lula. Ok the food here is good - I'll admit that right off the bat. That's the only reason I'm not giving this joint 1 star for its shoddy shoddy service. Everyone's been raving about the shish kebobs and rightfully so - the chicken and lamb have always been very moist and delicious everytime i've been there. The potato and mushroom samcy are perfectly fried on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the red dipping sauce that comes with it is perfectly tart and tangy. The hummus is fabulous and I recommend you order a side of chebureki with it, which comes warm out of the oven. Seriously though, this place has horrible service if you're not Russian. Look I'm not a very demanding person - after I get my food, I don't need you to check up on me or smile. I'll look for you if I need something. I'm a very polite person as well. But a lot of the times, they are really rude here. On my last visit there with a friend, everything was going fine until it was time for the check. We gave the waitress the money and was waiting for the change but after about 5-8 minutes of idle chatter, we realized it was taking too long. We looked at the front and the owner is just chatting with a random woman while the waitress tries miserably to get his attention. He bats her away repeatedly even after seeing the money in her hand. We're all aghast and we wait 10 more minutes to see how much longer this guy will ignore us, even after someone from our table asks the waitress very loudly if our change was coming soon. (We paid with a $100 bill for a 30+ meal so yeah we weren't going to leave without the change.) The owner keeps on talking, the waitress shrugs, and I have to go and actually stand in front of the man, cutting in front of the woman and tell him that he's kept me waiting almost 20 minutes to frigging PAY. He just looked really annoyed that I interrupted his conversation. The chebureki are deep fried savory pastries with lamb, potato, mushrooms and other fillings. They are awesome. The kebabs, such as the lamb, beef and exotic varieties such as lamb testicles, all super fresh, tender and redolent of a grill, are served on metal skewers. This place is amazing, it has the best fresh green salad which is included with avocados, asparagus, tomatoes and cucumbers while other Uzbek places have salads that are with tomato and cucumbers.
