I had a specific issue with my VW and relayed that specific info to the person and he stated they would take care of it and to have it towed there. After 5 days of not hearing from them, I called them only to find out they can't fix it and it has to go to the dealership and they refused to cover the towing even though they said they would fix it. This upset me and I let them know! After getting my car fixed by actual professionals, they told me the AC had been unhooked and that doesn't happen accidentally. BE CAREFUL!!!! A friend had the engine light come on. They took it here. The changed the oil without asking. ( didn't need it had been done) changed the wiper blades. Had it for several days. Went to get it and had a bill for 900.00. Gave a veteran discount took 50.00 off. Then a day later the engine light came back on. Called them they said for 150.00 could check it. They were more than happy to take the vehicle and said they can have it fixed within 2-3 days, they called me and told me that they don't have the ability to fix it FOUR days after receiving the vehicle. I went to Checkpoint to have my oil changed a couple weeks ago because I noticed that they charge only $48.99 on their website. This is a good price for synthetic oil. It took about an hour for them to perform the service. When I went up to pay, the man said it would be $75. I said, your website says $48.99. Why do I have to pay $75? He said that synthetic oil costs more. And I agreed. But why $75? After going back and forth he charged me the $48.99. I want to preface that I checked my oil level right before I went in and the level was a half a quart low. I checked the oil level again, right after I left the shop and it was still at a half a quart low. Plus the oil looked as dark as it did before I brought my car in. This tells me that even though they charged me for the oil change, they did not do the oil change. My first mistake is bringing in my car for service at Checkpoint Motors. But I will not make this mistake a second time. Beware. Update: Everyone faces adversity, but it is how one responds to the problem that makes the person. Brandon the owner reached out to me after reading my review and said he would make things right and had me back in for an oil change. That was yesterday, and he did the change himself. He also did a couple additional service items at no cost. After he showed me what he did, he said if I should come back he would personally take care of me which I thought was nice. My initial experience was not positive, but I think it was a one off. Brandon came through and now I can recommend CheckpointMotors. Update: This is an on going saga. The day after I brought my Mazda to be serviced for a second time at Checkpoint Motors, my transmission broke down. I was stuck on the side of the road. First I thought it was an electrical problem but today I was informed the gears of my transmission turned into chunks of metal. I've read that some unscrupulous mechanics can pour sand or another abrasive agent to destroy a transmission or engine. I am not accusing Checkpoint Motors here but the very next day after I brought the car back to be serviced, the car had a catastrophic break down. That is a fact. Now I am looking at a major repair bill. And to add insult to injury, I don't know if my engine is next to fail. My car has had zero repair bills up to now. I will give Checkpoint Motors a one star again. Is this a coincidence? I'll let you decide. Obviously I won't be taking my car back to Checkpoint Motors ever again. read more

I really really would like this to work locally vs going to the OEM dealership. Several issues.... First all I tried to schedule an online appt on their website. appeared not to function. So I called to let them know...."I don't deal with that, so I will have the gal that does that and have her call you." Nothing. I called back again and spoke to the gal(??), and she told me that they have no record of receiving appointments...."if we don't receive a notice" then we have no way of knowing about the request? (Really????). How about looking into why it's not functioning?? After them cancelling an appointment last week due to a sickness, I finally got in today to get my oil changed. Good price..... but the fluids which are supposed to be part of the deal, were not filled (washer fluid). Thought I'd check before I left. I brought it to one of the techs attention outside and he graciously filled the empty tank. Dicks in Canby is looking better all the time..... read more

I recently brought my 06 Ridgeline there for an alignment. I tried a "Local Honda Dealer" who didn't really address the steering sensor light as I asked. Honestly I'm not really sure if they did the alignment either. The people at Checkpoint we're honest, timely and accurate with everything they told me. I went to this company because of their ratings. I explained my car issues and they told me it would only take a few hours to fix two parts. I was there for 6 1/2 hours. I drove off their lot and had a new noise/issue that was not there when I brought it in and would need another appintment to fix that problem because they were closing. I found out they didn't fix my first issue and was stranded. I called to let them know, they said they would call me back, but never did. We have an '02 Chevy Duramax diesel, not easy to find anyone to work on these days. It was hemorrhaging oil - they got us in right away and got it fixed. I don't know of a time that we have taken it in and escaped for under $2K but it was less than $ 210. It's nice to have found a repair shop that is honest and efficient. Will be taking all of our vehicles there from now on - especially for oil changes. An actual shop that does an oil change for less than the "speedy oil change places" is pretty awesome. Another good review for checkpoint! Honest place and that is what I respect most! They look at your vehicle and let you know what needs to be done and what is critical. I dropped it off for a tune-up and they called and said it had been done recently and doesn't need one. Any other place, would have done it and charged me or said they did it and still would have charged me. I had a few other major and minor repairs done but they communicate well, discuss the prices and hold true to the scheduled time. I was having some really tough to diagnose problems with my Mustang, and after a repair that didn't fix the issue, they took the car back and fixed the problem for a VERY fair price. This shop is great. I stopped by after my engine finally restarted, and James offered a courtesy diagnostic to help figure out what was going on. Everything looked fine. He had a few ideas for what could have caused my temporary hiccup with my car issue, but he didn't recommend throwing money away on repairs when the parts on my car were still working. I appreciated the honesty, time, and genuine care. I'll return again for future business. (Ps. Previously I started taking my car to a dealership in NE Portland, but their service center recently let me down with their customer service after my car was broken into on their lot. My car needed what I knew to be a fairly expensive service. I needed a timing belt( also known as a serpentine belt) and, with that, a water pump replaced. While they were at it, I wanted them to replace the A/C/ alternator belt and they noticed the drive belt( s) were cracked. This is normal if your car has reached 90K-100K miles... check your manual. I was worried about waiting too long to have it replaced and needed a complete engine replacement if my belt broke- a real concern. Checkpoint Motors quoted me $950. This was after a friend said he'd do it for $550 and then couldn't. Maybe my friends quote was too low... I may never know. I told them I had a work schedule which was unpredictable, and asked if they had availability TOMORROW. They did!! Amanda was great to speak with on the phone initially and was communicative throughout the day, as my car needed to be at the shop for the entire day. After finding out that Checkpoint wanted permission to also replace any gaskets from which they saw seepage, I was freaking out a little. I asked them to only replace any which truly needed it, as they had access to a few more things with the timing belt accessible. They were sensitive to my concerns and, after all was finished, the final bill came in much better than expected. The Checkpoint Motors mechanic was able to get in and out quickly, my other gaskets were not seeping and my drive belts were replaced because they were cracked ( normal on an older car). I was happy to get my car back early for nearly $200 less than quoted. The squeaky belt noise is gone and, since I own a Toyota, all I need is an oil change now and to change out a few fluids. My car runs great. They even were nice about using my Yelp $20 off check-in coupon. I couldn't be more pleased with what I expected to be a stressful experience. I feel the Checkpoint Motors staff was reputable and made my first experience with them a very good one; I'd definitely recommend you try their services. read more

Checkpoint Motors saved the day! With a car that was about to die (needed a new alternator) I was referred to James by Les Schwab when they told me the problem wasn't my battery. It was 4pm. I had 1 kid with me, needed to pick up another kid in 1 hour and my husband had just left out of town on business. I pulled into Checkpoint Motors parking lot. We went in to the office and told my story...pretty stressed and near tears. James looked at me and said, "we can get you in". They also said that they could take me home, which was way above and beyond, and a calming moment for me that this too shall pass. I received a call the next morning at 9:08am with a diagnosis of my car and some additional information about concerns on work that the dealership did on my car just a few months ago. I couldn't believe how fast they took care of me! I've lived in Oregon City for over 13 years and have driven by Checkpoint Motors a great deal, but until someone referred me, I didn't know about their amazing service and staff. Based on my initial experience, I would have given Checkpoint Motors a 5 star rating. Their friendliness and customer service seemed to be spot on. That being said..... I took my car in to have it checked out. James was very helpful in identifying areas that needed work, including new Engine Mounts. I thought this was strange considering I had them replaced within the last year or two but James assured me they were toast and explained that the previous company had used inferior parts. He worked up an estimate to replace them to the tune of $500+. I decided to do the work myself so I paid Checkpoint for the services they provided and took my car home. At this point I did some research to find decent replacement mounts. I went with a brand that was highly recommended through several resources. Now, imagine my surprise when I removed the old mounts only to discover that not only were they the same brand as the new ones but that they were in perfect shape as well. Other than being dirty, they looked identical to the brand new ones. How many other people have paid to repair/replace perfectly good items through Checkpoint Motors? This really sucks as I thought I had found a reputable shop that I could do ongoing business with. Thank God I didn't get suckered into wasting hundreds of dollars. read more

I am very happy that I took my Jeep to Checkpoint when I noticed my check engine light was on. They diagnosed it quickly and were very thorough in their explanation of what needed to be done. From absolute neccessity to least important. Total repairs were $2,100 but with their proper guidance and considering the Holidays was able to get the important items take care of with only paying $900+ vs. the $2k. I will definitely go back to complete the remainder repairs and recommend their services to anyone in the Oregon City area. read more

I cannot say enough about Checkpoint Motors. As a woman, I have for many years dealt with shady and less than honest auto repair shops. but I have had nothing but great experiences with them. Angie, their office manager, is the absolute best, and communicates with you at every point of the repair process. Although I live in Southern California, my daughters live in Oregon, and they take their cars to Checkpoint and we have never had anything other than a five star experience. I would literally put my life in their hands, which in fact I do with my youngest daughter, as they care for and repair her 1998 Toyota 4-Runner and keep it in tip-top condition, even though she lives in the Hawthorne district we still take her car there. I wouldn't trust my car care to anyone else. Thank you, Checkpoint, for keeping my girls safe in their transportation. There is no greater trust than I can put in you in caring for their cars.
