Had the ribeye which I ordered it medium and was cooked perfectly. My man ordered his steak medium rare and it was closer to blue rare which wasn't too good. Appetizer chips and queso was good, but there was some salsa on the plate as well that was bland and super watery. No flavor whatsoever, would not recommend the chips &queso. Fairly priced. Everything else was good including the ceaser salad and broccoli and cheddar casserole, the mashed potatoes were good also but the gravy wasn't much, it tasted like generic store bought gravy. Overall the ambience was very nice and the booths were also. The drinks were not badly priced but weak. Had gotten a free chips and queso's offer after signing up with Darden Restaurants Group but had never heard of this restaurant before. When we passed it during a recent visit to Erie, decided to try it. Did all the great reviews really "scratch" the surface of just how good this place was? Well... it definitely deserved the great ratings! As soon as we sat down, warm, buttery croissants appeared before us. Enjoyed awesome, attentive service from wonderful Chloe, who made some great suggestions. We added hamburger meat to the queso sauce- no additional upcharge, and the sauce was SO delicious. Companion thoroughly enjoyed their lunch deal of fried chicken sandwich, upgraded the standard side of fries to house salad w/honey mustard dressing- yum. I had the chicken tenders platter that offers 2 sides. The broccoli rice casserole was okay, but the tender, crispy coated tenders were up there with the best I've had! Rather than having the chicken tossed, I had the hot honey sauce on the side. They provided a generous amount of this sauce; it packed some heat and was so tasty. I was also impressed by how clean the public restroom was, considering a bus load of tourists had just left. The full rack of ribs we ordered seemed to have been outrageously over cooked on the grill, or from a previous day- dry, cold, so stuck to the bone you couldn't cut off with a steak knife. I really wanted to give 3 1/2 stars here. This place was good but I'm not sure I'd ever come back. With a name like "scratch kitchen" I was expecting things to be hand crafted and homemade but that was not what I got. I was visiting Erie PA so I figured I'd try some place that I do not have at home in NY. We do not have cheddars and I've heard good things so I decided this was the place. I visited with my sister and husband and we ordered many options to sample. For starters I got the sangria. It was okay but it was straight from a box with too much sour mix added into it. Not good. For food we ordered the onion rings, loaded fries, and nachos for appetizers. All were good but the onions rings are the best. It tasted like they were hand dipped in delicious breading. I would order the onion rings!! For the rest, it was average. Queso tastes like Velveeta with rotel. For food we had the chicken fried chicken and a burger. I only ate the chicken and it was good and something different. The breading was similar to the onion rings. The chicken is a good choice. Overall cheddars Tate's like average food you'd get from any chain restaurant (Longhorn, Applebee's, chili's). Nothing special here. read more

Pleasantly surprised by our visit to Cheddar's yesterday. My favorite thing had to be the complimentary honey butter croissants they provide and I'm just sad I don't have one right now. My daughter had a cup of baked potato soup which she loved and we also had some fried cheese bites which were really good and not too greasy or heavy. My Buffalo chicken wrap with grilled chicken was really good and they gave me a lot of food (yay for two meals). My daughter had the grilled shrimp Alfredo which she loved and my mom and sister both had the fried shrimp and chicken tenders which they were both happy with. It was oddly cold inside the restaurant and I'm not a person who ever complains about being cold (being hot is another story) and our waitress didn't do a great job of taking the empty dishes off the table which made for cramped dining but overall it was a good experience. read more

Food was meh, service slow and waitress took forever to get a bottle of mustard to point I had to get up and get one my self. Then the manager had the audacity to Come up and try to educate me on how many drinks an individual is allowed to have in front of them in the state of Pennsylvania. If I counted correctly there are four patrons and four drinks. The waitress came and took the one drink without even asking. If we were done and it still had 1/2 in it. Bill comes to the table with drink taking away and not finished and still included as well as table games!!! What table games. This experience was pretty good for me but I can't rate it highly because of the negative experience those in my party and others had. We started with the Honey Butter Croissants which where really really amazing! Probably some of the best free bread I've had! But that's when things went sour our server politely informed us that they where out of chicken pot pie tonight. That's was disappointing considering two out of the three of us wanted that dish. As we waited and waited and waited we heard the constant over enthusiastic chaos that was Shawn. Shawn was aggressively loud and someone in my party admitted they heard him ask a table for dental floss. My entire party was happy he was not our server. We also watched as several employees struggled to figure out what was in a white fish dish. When our food finally came our service was very apologetic and made sure everything was okay. I was very very pleased with my steak and ribs combo enjoying the flavor of both as well as my corn. Someone else had the Buffalo chicken wrappers. I have never scene Buffalo chicken served with pickles. As a native Buffaloin I can confirm it wasn't our idea. Someone else with me had a pecan chicken salad and the baked potato soup. The salad was very very small but the potato soup was apparently very good. We left tired and disappointed after the extremely long wait and mediocre meal. Saturday at 430 went to cheddars for the first time. Myhusband ordered grilled shrimp with pasta Alfredo. Pasta was definitely from previous day. Cold. Barely any sauce so we asked for more and got some cold sauce the consistency of cream for my coffee. Some of the broccoli was hot some cold.i ordered beer battered shrimp and ribs. Ribs were very tender and good portion. Cold shrimp battered but not beerbatter. Served ribs over old cold fries a d shrimp were also cold and soggy. Waitress apologized and went to tell the manager to come see us. She offered more food but we were done. Also had the fried cheddar app. Fried rubber no flavor. Needless to.say manager never came to see us. We paid the bill...tipped the waitress well since she was the only good thing at Cheddars. What a shame. Pretty place...crappy food. Never again. As of right now, this restaurant is getting a 3 star review; I contemplated a 2 star, but I am hoping that my poor experience was the product of a bad Monday, and not a typical thing. The outside of the restaurant is very homely looking, with decent parking. Upon entering, it took about 6 mins for the hostess to come and greet us. We were informed it would be a 15-20 min wait. We decided to sit at the bar. Upon sitting down, the bartender told us she would clean the counter, but long story short, I ended up wiping down the counter. It took about 15 mins to even put a drink order in, which was very frustrating. (There were about 6 people at the bar, including us). The bartender spent more time outside of the bar than she did in front of customers at the bar. It took another 10 mins to order an appetizer, then another 8-10 mins to order food. The bar area had dirty dishes everywhere, from cups to plates to silverware. There was barely any clean counter space. (Worth noting, the bartender did mention that she was the only one working the bar area which is abnormal). The bartender was also very bad at making alcoholic drinks. Even while reading off of a cheat sheet, the drinks were turning out mediocre at best. (Multiple patrons complained about their drinks). The food came out before the appetizer did. I ordered the country fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans, my lady ordered the Buffalo chicken rolls with fries. The appetizer was spinach dip with chips. The chicken was very blah. Almost had a vinegar like aftertaste and the crust was far from "country fried". The potatoes were hard as if they've been sitting, and the green beans were hard as if they had just been picked. The Buffalo chicken rolls/wraps were gross. The chicken was dry and hard, and everything inside of it just didn't go well together. The fries tasted like old fryer grease, and were dry. The spinach dip was quite honestly the only good part of the meal. The reason I'm giving this a 3 star review and not a 2 star is because the manager came over and after speaking with us, took care of us adequately. He apologized profusely and told us that he appreciated the constructive criticism, and he hopes we will give them another try in the future. The manager believes that this was a very atypical experience, and if we come back, it will be a much better experience. We do plan on making the drive down to try Cheddars again, and when we do, I will update my review as necessary. read more

Dad loves the Chicken Fried Steak....but I'm vegetarian and could find no real meal options. I settled for a piece of Bourbon Salmon which was delicious. My "loaded" baked potato came only with a tiny bit of butter and a literal smear of sour cream. I just really get tired of not being able to eat anything nice at these restaurants without pretty much being required to eat meat or pasta. This place is just mediocre , nothing special and on the same level as a chili's or applebees. The food looks good but there wasn't anything that was so good I would have to have again. We ended up sitting at the bar so we didn't have to wait for a table and the service was slow and the bartender was not very friendly. At one point I said something and she appeared to ignore me so I said excuse me?, and she said "yeah I heard you". But apparently didn't think it was necessary to acknowledge me the first time. The service here is laughable. Our waitress didn't bother entering our food correctly TWICE! The food we did receive wasn't cooked. When the problem was addressed, they sent over a manager in training... 2hrs of my life were wasted, and I had to go somewhere else for dinner after dealing with and paying for this with a toddler. Went here tonight (Saturday) at 9:00pm and there was no wait at all. Server was super friendly. Decor is modern and very nice with internal brickwork, a large palm fan spinning from the ceiling, and a cool aquarium. This place is nice! We ordered the full rack of ribs and steak and half rack. Prices are very reasonable with those being under $15. Food came out quickly with a nice presentIon. Steak was okay but the ribs were amazing-fall off the bone type. Sides were fries, loaded baked potato, and coleslaw. The latter tasted really fresh and the baked potato was nice and soft with tasty toppings. I don't normally love American style chain restaurants but Cheddar's is the first one on the list that I would go out of the way to go back to again. I was visiting Erie and we decided to venture out somewhere different to eat as we don't have Cheddar's in the Pittsburgh area. To start, our server Sarah was amazing! She was extremely friendly and went out of the way to really take care of us and make sure we had a great meal after we told her we were from out of town and had never been to a Cheddar's before. I decided to try the Tennessee Sweat Tea and it was really good and a surprisingly cheap price. I was surprised how affordable the drinks on their cocktail menu were compared to other chain restaurants. ($5-7 for larger size mixed drinks) We ordered the spinach dip to start and the cheesy goodness was amazing! The chips weren't over salted and paired perfectly with this dip. I almost wanted to order a second for my meal, it was that good. I ordered the the blackened salmon salad. Nothing exceptional about the salad but was decent portion and tasted pretty good. But the croissant that came with the salad was out of this world! Covered in a sweet honey jam, it was the perfect little treat to go along with my healthy salad. My date ordered the honey dijion chicken and the portion size was very generous (2 chicken breasts as well as 2 sides). He said the meal was great but he could do with a little less sauce next time. I went to Cheddars with some friends this past weekend. I got this pineapple chicken and shrimp dish. The chicken was really yummy but the shrimp were almost revolting. They were all dried out and yucky. Also, there were only 3 of them on the entire dish. I got Mac and Cheese as a side and that was really yummy. The waitress was really nice. She notified us that there was a bit of a wait, which I appreciated. We were enjoying spending time with our friends so it was fine. I had ordered coffee, it was really delicious and our server was continually refilling it! So, over all I would go back to this Resturant again, I just would not order and seafood. read more

Maybe because I had never had a Monte Cristo before...but this sandwich was quite tasty! The batter around the sandwich wasn't overwhelmingly oily. The raspberry dipping sauce was the perfect touch! When you first bite into the sandwich, your tastebuds meet a nice warm combo of turkey, cheese, & ham. The powdered sugar & dough made me feel like I was eating a Zeppole. On a day out in Erie with partner, we ate here for lunch and my goodness, I can't wait to return. I first heard of Cheddar's in South Florida and a friend there had recommended them. Some months later in Erie, PA, I decided that I finally wanted to try them the restaurant. I was not disappointed in one item or the service. From my Strawberry Frozen Swirl to the appetizer sample to my blackened salmon, everything was better than I imagined and I had some high expectations. They loaded my drink up not only with strawberry puree but also alcohol. We love a well-balanced drink. The trio sampler was delicious. I don't like everyone's spinach dip but this one made my top 5 with it's thickness and creaminess. Also very good flavor. Along the same lines, I don't like everyone's salmon and they cooked this salmon excellently. It was cooked to perfection, not to overdone or undercooked. The scale on the bottom does freak me out a bit but I got over it real quickly. In short, I can't wait to come back! Also can we get more of these in western PA? K thanks bye! read more

My family had dinner at Cheddars for Fathers Day. There were 10 of us staying in the area and Cheddars was willing to take a reservation. Things started out a little rough. Starting with the reservation I was on the phone for five minutes on hold various times. Eventually the reservation was taken. When we arrived our table was not ready because there was another large party and they were trying to just place us there. No problem. 15 minutes after we were supposed to be seated, the manager was very apologetic and bought us two orders of chips and quesos. Unnecessary but appreciated. There was also a lack of silverware which they also apologized for but addressed. Manager was very attentive and quick to address. Service and food were excellent. Table orders ranged from steak, ribs, chicken, salmon, to kids meals. Everyone was very happy with their meals and the portions were great. Waitress was excellent. Not a huge chain fan, but I would return to Cheddars in a heartbeat. Great job overall. read more
