Myself and my coworkers have visited this place a few times and the food is always right and the service is good. I really like the fried shrimp and chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and green beans. Although the chicken is a little bland but I still like it... weird... Walked in on 7/11/2022 at 3. Host saw me walk to the bar and sit down. Several other servers walked past me to service their tables but not a single server came to the bar and no bartender ever appeared. If a server walks past the bar and sees a customer they should either tell that customer their is no bartender and move them to a table or if there is a bartender they should let the bartender know there's a customer at the bar. Myself and my boyfriend decided to go to Cheddars last night around 10pm (they close at 11). The hostess was ready to seat us but my man wanted to see more of the NBA draft so he asked if the bar was closed. She said no, you sit at the bar, 2 seats in the middle. As soon as we sit down the bar tenders are loudly making comments/ jokes about telling the hostess 2 hours ago that the area was closed. One even made a joke about going postal. That wasn't very pleasing to 2 paying customers. We continued sitting there to my discomfort. The Caucasian waiter asked what we were drinking and if we wanted appetizers. We ordered. Then after (still commenting) a few minutes he asked to take our order. My boyfriend asked a question about if rice came with the meal. The waiter just shrugged and said I don't know (unprofessional) however my man is looking at the menu and I say it does, the bartender is tapping his pen as to rush the process while looking annoyed. He takes our order. He and the African American bartender are super loud and belligerent (language, conversation topics, etc) the whole time. Caucasian one makes 1 last comment about the bar being closed and the African American bartender says 'we are going to get in trouble if you keep saying that'. I shake my head in agreement. I have never felt more unwanted at a restaurant than on this day. I wanted to smash my glass of water against the wall and walk out but I didn't. I guess good help is hard to find right now. The true story of how I almost ate a grasshopper! My friend and I decided to hang out and have lunch. We both ordered spinach dip. Hers came first and was burnt I ordered a little after her and told the waiter please don't let mine be burnt. When I got it it looked spectacular.... After taking about six bites my nosy self as usual..looking at all food noticed what looked like a Leg. My friend says hi maybe it's just a piece of cheese so I picked it up lo and behold it had little tiny hairs so guess what it was a leg. It was also attached to something I had to pull it to get it detached and it's like I felt it come out the socket. once it was off the napkin had absorbed the sauce and I was able to see what looked like a outer body shell which now I definitely think with some kind of grasshopper so I'll let you be the judge of it (pictures below). Everyone that has seen it thinks it may be a grasshopper but that part is up for debate but for sure it was a Leg. The manager came and I told him and all he said was he's sorry he's going to send a picture to whoever and that don't worry about paying for the dip, well duh I wasn't but is that all you can offer you should've said everything is on the house. After me telling him he should have said that then but he didn't. I think Dustin needs to work on his management skills especially considering there was a Leg... in food... I haven't eaten at Cheddars since I was a kid growing up in Texas a long time ago. My son and I had lunch here recently and it was overall a good experience. The building and decor is really beautiful. Feels far more high end than the food. Our server was very attentive and did a great job. No complaints there. The food was good. Not great, but good. I love the little croissants at the start. I mean a sweet, flaky croissant is always a treat. My son ordered a steak and it was maybe a touch over cooked but still very good. Sides were fine. I chose a salad and veggie plate, which included a side salad and four sides. I think it was about $8 which was a good price. The veggies were only okay. Nothing special at all. The broccoli casserole was quite tasty and the baked potato was as good as any. Our bill was more than fair, even with a generous tip. We were right at $30 and two people can hardly eat fast food for that nowadays. If we lived closer, I would be back. read more

This place is probably one of the best bang for your buck type places. Prices are reasonable and the amount of food is a lot. Have been here a few times and the food is pretty good. You don't have bread at your table prior to the meal but they do have croissants available to be ordered. Each order has 4 so with my family of five we had two orders of the croissants, well worth it. I ordered the salmon with orange salsa and shrimp. It comes with rice plus you get two additional sides which I chose the broccoli and cheese casserole and macaroni and cheese. I do not suggest the macaroni and cheese unless you are a fan of the soupy macaroni. Everything else was good. Nice portion for the salmon and the salsa made it flavorful. Family has eaten at Cheddar's two or three times now. I wanted to give this place a 4-star, but it has some problems I'll get to. First, the prices are great and the portions are very generous. I love that the fruited lemonade comes with free refills. I got the bacon cheese burger, and it feels like more than 1/2-pound. The food I've ordered is always delicious (never gotten a steak) and service is very good. Our waitress check-in on us regularly and are quick to refill drinks. But I got three problems, and two maybe nit-picky: 1) Wait & kitchen staff come and go through the main entrance. It's frustrating to sit and wait for 30-40min while you see staff leaving at the end of their shift. My complaint isn't that they are going home (everyone needs time with family)... just consider how it looks to the guests when the help is leaving and I am waiting for a seat. I don't know if that it's handled at other restaurants, but I can't think of another place I've been where the staff come-and-go through the main entrance. 2) My wife is vegetarian (milk and egg products only). They only have one item that is vegetarian friendly which is the "spaghana" ( aka Brick O'Cheesy Pasta). All the salads come with chicken, which they can take off.... but still charge full price. Maybe they could price the salads with and without chicken OR come-up with one other vegetarian item? I know she is not the only vegetarian in Gaston County. 3) Seating is a BIG issue. The place is always busy and I think I know why. Tonight we showed up at 4:50pm. The wait was already out the door and we were told 20-30min. Problem was two whole sections of the restaurant were completely empty. They finally started seating the area after 5, but it was too late.... the wait had already grown to 45min. By the time we left I overheard the hostess telling someone the wait is going to be 95min! Cheddars.... get more wait/kitchen staff and open up the entire restaurant when you start getting busy so you dont end up with these crazy wait times. So to summarize: Pros- Good value, excellent tasting food, reasonable price, large portions, friendly staff, clean restaurant. Cheddar's reminds me of every sad yet comical movie about a large, casual and American restaurant (think Chotchkie's from Office Space or Shenaniganz from Waiting). They've got big food, a wait staff that seems to hate their lives and the classic dish of butter served with a little croissant. I went in on the Thursday after New Years with a group of family. Despite the parking lot being packed to the brim, we were seated immediately at a booth next to a jumbo sized silk fern. The main room does have some really slow spinning fans that I guess were kind of neat. The menu is large and has all of the staples of these sorts of restaurants - wraps, salads, sandwiches, soup, chicken fingers, steaks, burgers, etc. I ordered the fish tacos with a curve ball side of broccoli and cheese casserole (broccoli casseroles are my anti-drug/ kryptonite). The two grilled fish tacos came with slaw, tomatoes and a spicy sauce. I actually liked my tacos. Two people at the table ordered the soup (which was apparently VERY salty) and salad combo. The salads came out really quickly BUT they were missing the infamous butter drenched croissants! Our waitress told us they were out for the moment, but when I looked up I literally saw other waiters bringing them out of the kitchen. It was another 15 minutes before the replacement croissants came and another 10 or so before the rest of our meals came. Our waitress was pretty MIA for most of our meal. The portions are astronomically huge at Cheddar's. While the fish tacos were a normal portion, the regular sized salad, burgers, sandwiches and wraps I saw could have fed a whole family. The prices are reasonable so either split your meal or know you are going to have some leftovers. I don't especially love chain restaurants like Cheddar's to begin with. While I liked my food, the spotty service, ridiculous portions, plain menu and withholding of croissants were not so great. At the end of the day, we all love a buttered croissant so I'll probably be back, but I hope service is better next time. read more

My salmon loving friends are partial to Cheddar's salmon entree. Service has always been good. Never poor, but never stellar (which is fine by me). I have eaten here many times before and always enjoyed it, but last night was the last night I will eat there. My wife and ordered drinks. She had one of their punches and I had a pina colada. Both were very good. She ordered the Hawaiian Chicken Salad and I had Chicken Tenders, buffalo style. When my wife bit down on part of her salad, she bit down on a piece of metal! It looked similar to a razor blade, but the manager said that it was something broken off from one of the pieces of their equipment. While the managers comped our food and that was good, both of us had lost our appetites. While this may have been a freak accident, kitchen equipment should be inspected before it is used. My wife ordered a buffalo chicken wrap with extra buffalo sauce. It came out with buffalo sauce only on the side. My daughter and I had enough time to completely eat our meal before the server came back so we could let him know. He then took her food back and squirted a little buffalo sauce back on one side of the tortilla and brought it back out and said it was "too late" to toss the chicken in the sauce like they were supposed to. We thought we'd try this place out and have dinner with the family. We got there around 5:30 and the parking lot was packed! Always a good sign when there's nowhere to park. Surprisingly, even though there were a handful of people waiting in the doorway, we were sat right away. We ordered our drinks, then a couple of appetizers. The spinach dip was very good! I highly recommend the cheese bites too! My mother never got her salad prior to her meal, so that was a negative. Our waitress was very friendly and decently attentive. Had to ask for refills once but she did very well. The food came out fast and the service was on par! Our entrees were delicious! The chicken tenders were gigantic and delicious! They have a really good crunch with the breading they use! Definitely get the chicken tenders if you're hungry! This place has really gone downhill. It used to be my go to for any occasion, but the last three visits have been miserable. One time was on my birthday and we waited almost one hour for the only thing ordered - chocolate cake. On this visit I tipped the hostess because my waitress never came back to our table. The next two times also had EXTREMELY LONG wait times. I even noticed the hostess had people waiting for long periods of time before sitting as to pace the kitchen staff. Very clean cool atmosphere. Food was very good with fair prices. I am happy I picked this place over the other chains in the area. Reason for only 4 stars is due to the service. My waitress was horrible as we still had our previous course on table when next course came out and she never cleaned off the table. Felt very rushed. I am not sure if this place is new, that could explain the customer service issues but overall very good and place is very very nice looking. I ordered a drink but was served the wrong drink - and informed the waiter of this error immediately, which he did correct . Horrible experience! I called in an order and ask for the tilapia with mango salsa. The kid on the phone said they did not have tilapia but he would absolutely do it with salmon at no extra cost. I drove 30 minutes and when I arrived he brought my order out and said they were out of mango salsa but he decided to put in a bourbon glaze. Which means I did not get a single thing I originally ordered and they could've asked me at any point over the phone if I would be OK with a completely different order which I was not.
