Their gluten/dairy free selections are weak and 99% of them come with rice which I can't have either, and they don't consider that a side, so no subs. The food is ok, but nothing special. This was our fourth visit, and we won't be back again. We've liked their food in the past, but this time my mother's plate was covered in tiny hairs like someone had shaved over it. The manager apologized and comped my mother's food, but we won't eat here again. Now my kid is all freaked out about the hair, and he vomited in the parking lot. The main reason I come back to this place is because of the sides. The broccoli cheddar and rice casserole is amazing. If they made it a meal I'd get that every time. I also love their green beans and mash potatoes. I know it's kinda weird to love just the sides but I do and there's even an option where you can order just sides as your meal. How awesome is that? If I do come here and want something other than sides I opt for their amazing salmon. Bourbon sauce? I believe is what it is. Don't quote me on that but my server suggested that I get the salmon with that sauce on the side as my main meal and I'm so glad she did because I love it. We went in with 4 people and got sat without any wait. Server came by and got our drink order, we ordered 3 alcoholic drinks and 4 waters. We waited 30 minutes and didn't get even waters. Another table with the same server got their food before their iced teas. We didn't see a manager anywhere and our server was MIA. We ended up leaving after only one alcoholic drink came and it was extremely watered down. First, we have been going to this Cheddars in front of the Warren Theater on 13th street North in Wichita since it opened. We used to go there two or three times a week. I honestly don't think I will ever set foot in that Cheddars ever again. And judging by the amount of people there, I am guessing many other people feel the same. I wanted to celebrate my birthday there. On a Saturday night at 5:00, there should have been an hour to 90 minute wait. But she told me it would be 5 minutes. Okay, I saw a high top open so we grabbed it. I am not kidding, no one, not one single person came to give us a menu, or ask us for drinks for 20 minutes. I know, because I looked at my watch. If anyone try's to tell you I am exaggerating, I am not. This was a sign. We should have left. I finally, went back to the hostess (manager was standing there), and asked her for some menus. She gave me four menus and four wrapped forks and knives. So I brought them back to the table and served us. I saw the manager talk to the bartender and say something to her about getting service. We waited another 10 minutes. Now a total of 30 minutes. I watched the bartender talk to some customers at the bar. Still nothing. I walked over to bartender and two other wait staff that were just standing there. I asked if there was any wait staff for our table pointing to our table. Knowing full well, what wait staff does to orders of people who cause problems. I was very nice. The bartender says to me, that table is the other bartender. Really!!! When my son was a bartender there in that same building shortly after it opened, he helped everyone. So we waited a few more minutes. I was just getting ready to walk out. I had enough of this. The other bartender shows up, greets us and tells us he would be glad to take our order and if we need anything he would be glad to assist us or his wife the other bartender would help. He took our order. While we were waiting, his wife was very nice to me when I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea. My drink came and it was good. While we were waiting. I over heard the same female bartender tell customers at the bar that the famous rolls would be out is 20 minutes. Good grief, it is Saturday night and you are out of rolls already. I knew we would not be seeing any of the rolls which came true. We waited and waited some more. Dinner finally shows up. I asked for my salad. I used to love the salads at Cheddars. They used to ask if eggs and cheese was okay. They didn't ask because evidently you only get lettuce that is quite a few days old, soggy and turning and brown in spots. What I got after I was finished with my dinner was a salad of turned lettuce. I mean wilted and soggy in some parts, no eggs, no cheese, no rolls, but wilted soggy lettuce. Oh I did get ranch dressing to cover that. I rabbit would not have eaten that. Nor did I. I left half my lettuce. I cannot called it salad. The two small pieces of Salmon were the size of 50 cent pieces was burned on the bottom. I had trouble cutting through it. The amount of rice was no bigger than a table spoon. The broccoli was good. My husband's hamburger was okay, but not exaggerating, he was served six pieces of fries. Honestly, it truly looked as if they took fries from someone's plate that had not eaten the hard end pieces of fries. If it hidden been for the hamburger on his plate, I would have thought it was someone else's plate. I kept waiting for our bartender/waiter to come back to ask if we needed anything or dessert, a drink, anything. I never saw him again. We finally paid on the machine and left. I really should never have left any kind of tip, but we did 18%. Wow, I know restaurants are struggling. But in every aspect from coming in, to very poor service, bad food, missing food, it was one of the worst experiences in any kind of restaurant from a food truck to a five star elegant restaurant. I cannot be the only person this has happen too. What happen to Cheddars. I am now embarrassed to tell people that Cheddars was my favorite. Good luck staying in business. Husband and I went in on a Thursday night. Not busy at all. It was about 8 o'clock. It took about 10 minutes for us to be greeted by the server. No apology of how long that took. We ordered painkillers, and we waited long for those to show, and when they came, they had no pineapple or cherry. Our meal was good. She did give me a new broccoli and cheese casserole, which was nice. The server checked on us when we had eaten half of our meal already and asked if I wanted a box or dessert. I said no, and she asked how we were paying. I told her card. She stood there holding the tables credit machine. Never asked if I could use it or or pay when you are ready. It was awkward and seemed forceful. She took my card and had me put the tip in. (Even more awkward) and said she could do the rest. I'm sure she filled out her own survey. I know many people will complain about the wait, but the 4 times I've been I have didnt have such a long wait time. As usual I order the painkiller(alcoholic drink). Its made with pusher rum, pineapple juice and coconut creme and the glass is rimmed with honey and toasted coconut flakes. Too bad the limit is 2 bc I could probably down 4 of these. Yes, they are that good. I also ordered a low Calorie chicken dish called the key west chicken. It was really good! It consisted of a lightly season rice pilaf, a baked chicken breast topped with a pineapple salsa and 2 sides. I opted for the cheesy broccoli casserole, what casserole. They really could've had promoted the word casserole bc I was looking forward to a crispy bread topping. But still like I said, not bad. The price for that dish was about an affordable $10. On another occasion I had just chips and queso. Please note, you can receive this as a free appetizer when you sign up for their email club. When they brought out the 1st plate I got a whole plate of broken chips, so I ket my waiter know and he wasnt hesitant to get me another plate of whole pieces if chips. Just Meh. Waitress meh, food meh... Got my salad immediately. Thank goodness cause I was starving. So was my husband, but he had to watch me eat my whole salad and another 10 minutes before we got our appetizer of chips and queso. Bunch of chip fragments and cheese was crusted over like it had been sitting under the light. Food arrived another 30 minutes later! Now an hour into service, food arrives and my mash potatoes are crusted over as well as if, again, has been sitting for some time. The onion rings are fantastic! I would come here JUST for those. The food is traditional homestyle fare, chicken fried steak, chicken fingers, veggie sides. The food quality is good, but not excellent. It's filling though. A lot of food per serving, and very inexpensive. Great for families, and the ambience is family friendly too. Called ahead and were placed on a waitlist and told it'd be about 20 min for our family of 4. Got there about 15 min later and checked in like we were instructed to do and were then told again it'd be 20-25 more min. Once seated, we waited an additional 15 min and were never once addressed. I flagged a waitress down and asked if we had a server. She did her best to find us one, but after another 5 minutes passed, we decided to leave. At this point, she approached who appeared to be the manager. She explained another problem and then pointed us out telling him he was losing our service too. I then wen up to him and explained that we had waited over 15 minutes without any service. He just looked at me. At that point, I turned and left. I have never had such crummy service from a restaurant. I love how affordable this place is. You can get steak & ribs for only $15!! (Which my fiancé did). I always get the same thing when I eat here which is the New Orleans pasta.. I don't know if tonight was just a bad night service wise but I will never find out because I will NOT be going back. As for the food...The "Fresh" steamed broccoli was NOT freshly steamed. Very soggy, more like it had been boiled. The steak, When I finally got it was eh at best. a good It started with some little things that I would forgive...maybe they are new, unexpectedly busy, etc... though this would account for one of the servers but all of them? The issues that I would NORMALLY forgive with mild irritation are these: 1) While our waiter was introducing himself and taking drink orders another server came and brought us somebody else's appetizer. Our waiter took it away. 2) The salad that I ordered and in fact discussed its contents with our server, Aaron, never came. 3) Our appetizer took quite some time. Now for more serious issues... My steak was ordered Medium. What I got was JUST this side of well done. Brown with just the tiniest amount of pink...a very thin line. I Called over the waiter who took it away and said he would get me another one. The manager came over and apologized assuring me that I would have my steak in just a couple of minutes. So far so good. First, by the time I got my order, my guests where almost done with their meal. Then when they brought the check I saw that they had Credited a steak of with code PR-Guest Dislike. I thought oh nice, they did what every other place would do in the same situation and credited my meal. I wasn't asking for it but they did. THEN i see they charged me for both steaks and were only crediting the first one. My irritation is this...if you aren't going to comp the meal because of the bad experience, don't make it APPEAR that you are in any way and don't basically slap the customer in the face with your apathy. I asked to speak with the manager, who never came out. My waiter came back and said "Yeah they do that to send back to the kitchen." Waited another several minutes still no manager so we left, telling a waitress to please tell her manager to expect a call in a few minutes. When I called I spoke with Josh. I explained all of the issues and his response was, "I'm trying to understand...we only took off one of the two steaks? Yeah that's normally what we would do is charge two and credit one...I mean we didn't charge you for the first one." He also stated that they get steaks sent back "Not infrequently" When I stated that if they are getting steaks sent back a lot maybe they should try and fix that issue he said "Yeah, I guess." He informed me that the never comp anything per company policy. That's fine. I'm not out for free food. I think it is a very poorly thought out policy especially in the restaurant business, but hey...your choice. My issue is DON"T SLAP ME IN THE FACE WITH YOUR APATHY BY PUTTING A LINE THAT MAKES IT LOOK LIKE YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING. read more

Food here is exra-ordinary. Fairly boring, but it will fill your stomach. The only thing good is their prices, which prove 'you get what you pay for.' So I give them two stars, since if you're on a budget and want to take your family out, this might fit the bill. (pun intended) Order a burger, you'll get a sizable over-cooked patty on a plain white bun. Green beans were obviously out of the can and had a lot of onions in them to try to give them flavor and were cooked to death, chicken fried steak, although it looks fabulous, but it was all breading, very little meat on the inside. Honey mustard chicken and mushrooms-(grilled) was okay too much sauce on my plate and chicken tasted somewhat spongy you like pre-cooked chicken. Cheddar's is EASILY one of the best chain restaurants in Wichita. I say that, as a person who usually frequents local restaurants for house-made specialties, signature dishes, fresh ingredients, and the like. Cheddar's is a Scratch Kitchen - making almost everything from scratch - including battering their tasty chicken tenders. For lunch, I like the Pick 2 or 3 and usually get their scrumptious Monte Cristo and Loaded Baked Potato Soup. Sometimes I throw in a Caesar. You get all 3 for under $8. For dinner, I have enjoyed Cheddar's chicken tenders, mango salsa tilapia, fish tacos - grilled or fried as both are excellent, and "spasagna" (spaghetti/lasagna mix). You get LARGE portions - I always take something home - at the most reasonable prices (Cheaper than the similar Applebee's). They have several sides that are quite delicious too - steamed broccoli, cooked/sweetened carrots, mashed potatoes with red skins, and broccoli cheddar casserole. They have a cocktail list of several jumbo drinks for just $5-6 - unbeatable for regular priced drinks. I highly recommend the Painkiller, Maui Margarita, Georgia Sunshine, and Texas Sweet Tea. They also have a crazy good (and cheap) chocolate mousse cake with ice cream for $5-6 that easily serves 4 people. There are several reviews below of steaks not being cooked correctly; yet, if you look up any of several diagrams of different ways steaks can be grilled, Cheddar's did in fact cook the steak as ordered in the complaint. And then to complain you didn't get the steak free? Only a person who has never worked in the food industry would make such a complaint. As a person who did in my early adulthood, I saw way too many customers make the slightest of complaints to try and get freebies - especially giving away free steaks could put a restaurant out of business. (And, wait staff have to add any steaks to be sent to customers on the tab #1 for it to go back to the kitchen and #2 for the business to keep track of its higher end menu items. This is common protocol in the food industry.) I'm not huge on steak; but the one time I ordered it at Cheddar's, it was quite good especially considering the low price. read more

The mere mention of Cheddar's to my co-workers brings cheers of joy, like a bus full of 8 year-olds headed to the candy store. We love it because it is cheap and we have a 10 dollar limit when the company is paying. Holy crap do we get more than enough. I love the Chicken Strip dinner (with buffalo sauce) that comes with two sides. The broccoli cheese casserole is amazing! I'm not a fan of the rolls but everyone else seems to be. We had the same server both of those times: once when it was busy and once when there weren't many people. The time when it wasn't busy we had the worst service. I asked multiple times for a side of sauce and when we left I still didn't have it. While it makes me sad to knock a place that used to be a "go-to affordable date night restaurant," I must. My experience last night actually makes me glad that I don't have to retract a previously positive review, truly. Date night, arrive at 9, as we both work until 7 or 8 most nights. The restaurant isn't terribly busy, I would say it was steady business for the time. We were seated immediately, but for some reason had enough time to decide on our meals before our drink order was taken. I love the painkiller drink, and I don't know of a restaurant or bar that makes it in town, so that's always my beverage of choice at Cheddar's. Come to find out they were out of this signature drink probably 5 minutes after I ordered it, but my boyfriend's beer was brought out immediately after this news. Resigned, I ordered a glass of "cab sav" as I put it. The waitress stared blankly at me, so I clearly said that I would like the cabernet sauvignon. Again, she didn't understand, so as I pointed to the specific type of cabernet sauvignon that I would like, again, she seemed to understand then left the table. Maybe I was mumbling and didn't realize it? Anyways, then the manager comes to our table and and asks what beverage I had requested. She says, "The waitress said you didn't know how to pronounce your wine." It. Was. Beringer. Cabernet. Sauvignon. This is bottom shelf, overpriced "wine," but I was determined to make the best of it all. I repeated it to her, twice, because the first time she said, "Oh, the house red?" Let's continue, afterwards we ordered our meals. I ordered a 12 ounce ribeye (medium rare) with a house salad, broccoli and cheese casserole and steamed broccoli. My boyfriend ordered a half rack of ribs, French fries, and replaced the cole slaw with corn. Basically, how can you f*** this order up? My steak was MAYBE a quarter inch thick, the sides were what I expected. I could barely cut The steak, it was so tough. My boyfriend even gave it a shot, it was TOUGH. The ribs were, I kid you not, 2 bones with meat between and on both sides of them. The fries were COLD. After about 10 minutes, our waitress comes back, asks about our meal. We hadn't touched our food, because we were just totally over it. The manager just said "Okay, no problem!" Then brought back the ticket for our drinks. No apology, no compensation for a ruined evening. I mentioned to her that we would have to find somewhere else to eat, as it was now nearing 10 o'clock. She didn't seem concerned, since this was obviously not her problem. This is the longest review I have ever had to write, and I didn't even include other minor annoyances that occurred, in an effort to not totally bore the reader. My boyfriend and I go here pretty often. The food is pretty cheap for what you get and tastes good as well. However, most of the times we go, they always don't have the sides we want. They're out. We don't even go like an or 2 before they close either. Maybe we've just been unlucky. Who knows? So it's pretty annoying when you want a certain thing and then told no you can't have it.
