I live in a different city but heard good things and wanted to try this place out for an anniversary lunch and online shows they are open everyday besides Mondays, so we made the drive all the way to Sanibel just to see the place was empty and doors locked with new hours posted on the door saying they are closed Tuesdays now as well; It should be updated online for the people who aren't local so that doesn't happen. Have driven by on prior visits, but because we come down here with our fur baby, we usually go out to places with outdoor seating options. This time we finally tried and got take out. I'll mention that the decor inside looks clean and fun, and staff was very friendly. I had the Hot chicken sandwich, which was memorable (generous and tasty). Wifey had the chiliheese fries, which were a bit bland (but generous, and packed thoughtfully for take out). We have been coming to Cheeburger Cheeburger for many years and this is the first time none of us ordered a burger, we ordered chicken fingers $8.99, portobello mushroom sandwich $7.99 and the Chee-dog $6.99 which is a ft long hotdog. We ordered fried pickles as appetizer and fries and onion rings as sides. For three of us we over-ordered for sure. The fried pickles are plentiful and while the batter is nice and crisp, the pickles are a bit salty. The chicken fingers come with 5 in an order and the chicken is quality. The batter isn't as crispy as I'd like but they are good. The Portobello sandwich is really tasty and worth getting. The Che-dog is quite flavorful and we ordered ours with chili and cheese. The fries are natural cut and quite good and the onion rings are nice. Our server today was Laura and a mage was attentive and friendly. read more

Don't expect fast service for food at the bar, even if it is empty. This has happened to us twice now. We usually enjoy sitting at the bar and service at most places is comparable to a table, not here! We waited 35 minutes for burgers and fries the last time and maybe a little longer before. We attempted to dine here last night. We arrived at 7:22 (posted closing time 8pm). We waited at the hostess stand, noticing a few Empty tables and about half of the bar stools empty as well. When an employee finally asked if anyone had helped us, before I could say a word, another employee walked up and said they couldn't take anymore people. No apologies, just "we are busy". An apology, a mention that they were short staffed, or something to justify being told to go away would have been appreciated. Even "please come back" would have gone a long way! This is a great place to take the kids! It looks like an old fashioned diner, with a corvette and a motorcycle parked on property. They reopened this April with all new decor. The tables and booths are reminiscent of a 1950s malt shoppe. Our hostess was from South Africa and had a delightful accent. Super friendly. The same for our waitress who was knowledgeable and experienced. My sister had the Island Burger with guacamole and pineapple. She loved it. I had a straight cheeseburger with 2 three ounce smashed patties of beef, choice of cheeses and toppings. The fries were super good and they came with a some sort of horseradish dip that was perfect. We split an order. They have malts and milkshakes in a plethora of flavors. Opted for a root beer float and it disappeared pretty fast. So fast and friendly service, good hot food, and great ambiance. The bathrooms even look cool. Recommend as it's also kid friendly casual dining. They offer a wide assortment of toppings, including peanut butter. The seasoning on the fries is absolutely delicious! Loved their onion rings. Plus you can get an order of half fries and half rings, no choosing necessary. Which is good because now you need to choose a shake. I have been going to this one for years but I had the WORST experience. I was greeted by an aggressive John B (who was peppy with all other tables but ours). He only had 2 other tables and one was on its way out. In addition to him being annoyed. We then got our food brought out. He forgot all the side sauces that our table had requested except this lumpy cheese. He however told me they're refilling it and bringing out a fresh one. It smelt and tasted disgusting. I attached the picture. You can tell they scrapped it out of the machine.. and tried to pull a fast one. At this point I tried to flag him down since he was mia for 10 mins and wouldn't even look at our table. After I finally got him and told him about this sauce he sighed loud and ran away with it. When he returned with the sauce he basically threw it on the table. In our party we had someone participate in the eating challenge. He completed it and we waited for 8 minutes for him to come to the table and I eventually asked the hostess for the reward with the challenge. This place is a disaster. This was our last choice since Paper Fig, located in the same shopping center was not open. This place is a combination of a diner with elements of Farrell's, Fuddrucker's and Bob's Big Boy. The restaurant totally loses it when it comes to the food. They cater to families and children but their food is overly processed and extremely salty. Not sure the orders of chicken fingers we ordered were made the same day that we ordered them. The sauces are definitely not homemade either. I would go as far as saying that probably Burger King or Wendy's has fresher food than this place does. Mediocre service. Sometimes you might not notice this place at first. Heck, I almost drove past it looking at everything around me. I love the eclectic feeling when you walk into the building. It gives the atmosphere of relaxation and funky vibes. The food never disappoints, minus the sometimes excessive seasoning on the fries, I could eat it once a day! I wish they would take the time to fix simple things. The bathrooms wall paint is slightly atrocious. The bathroom tiles along the corners and coming up the walls haven't been deep cleaned in lord knows how long. The handicap stall in the women's restroom still has the old toilet hole. Besides those, the service is something that makes me come back. Finding people that love their job makes all the difference. My family and I ate there this afternoon, the service wasn't great but not awful..and when I paid, and tipped, I was outside waiting for my wife, and she came out and told me that our server (John B) yelled at her because he was not happy with how much I tipped. That's very unprofessional and rude. I think I was $2 or $3 short of the recommended amount? During our lunch the server (John B) was short with us and seemed annoyed and I still tipped. But I guess that wasn't enough. So I went back, and he still was short with me. I asked him how much he wanted to be tipped. Of course he didn't have a straight answer. If the server was unhappy with his tip he should have addressed me, since I paid, and not caused a scene with my wife. Make sure you tip very generously regardless of service, otherwise you will get called out. read more

Stop at Cheeburger Cheeburger every-time I'm on the island. It's always the same. Good solid reliable burger and shakes. I don't eat the buns so I like having a place to get a larger burger with numerous topping options. Hate paper straws and super difficult to drink milk shake using one but I understand they are better for the environment. ‍. Only negative is the place literally hasn't changed in years as in the carpet is OLD and gross. Two of the bathroom stalls in the women's bathroom were "merged" in to one larger stall but the hole for the toilet piping is still in the stall with just a grate over it. Unsafe and absolutely disgusting. They seriously need to put some money in to the building. read more

This is such a great restaurant. We stopped by after a long bike ride around the island. We were immediately seated in this gorgeous spot. The retro decor was very pleasing to the eye. The seats are comfortable as well. Our waiter Jen helped us and quickly brought the drinks out. She was very helpful while ordering as well. The food was great and the fries tasted fresh. First, the server did all she could. She really tried and was very apologetic. We arrived at 5:10 on Memorial Day. Over half the tables were empty. The food took just over an hour and there were many mistakes. 1 grilled cheese- the cheese wasn't even melted. 1 burger literally had an egg shell in it. 1 teriyaki burger was missing the sauce. 1 burger was wildly over cooked. And finally, a grilled chicken salad was missing sauce and the chicken was tough. The manager made excuses about people calling in and how he "doesn't make the schedule so can't control it." He said that he was in the middle of traying up food when he had to leave to talk to us. His name is Dan. We did call ahead ahead saying that we had a large party and they told us it was no problem. We have eaten here before and everything was great but this was so bad that we will not be coming back. This is, of course, a spoof of the old SNL skit from the mid-70's, which I can still remember watching as a kid when it first aired on live TV. The good: The overall experience was pleasant. They use sort of a "build-your-own" type of format, where you start by selecting the size of the cheeseburger you want, followed by the bread, then the cheese (I guess cheese is not optional, like the SNL skit?), and then your various condiments. The meat was nicely done, with a down-home type of taste, where they don't appear to season the meat with anything. That's good, because it lets you actually taste the hamburger, rather than overpowering you with seasoning that you didn't ask for. Also, all drinks come in large mason jars, which is always nice. However, sometimes aggressive drink refilling can be a sign of institutionalized slow food delivery. Keep reading. The Questionable: My only "ding" was the speed of service with our food. Drink refills came fast & furious, so no complaints at all with that. But, for the actual food, we probably waited 45 minutes. That struck me as extremely odd, especially since hamburgers don't typically take long to cook, and because we're here in Sanibel during an off-peak time. The restaurant was not at all busy or full. They also have Trivial Pursuit cards at each table, to keep you occupied. That's nice, but is that a sign that all food orders will take a strangely long amount of time? Just connecting some dots here... My last comment would be the atmosphere/ambience: You know how sometimes when you go to a restaurant, and you get the impression that another restaurant formerly occupied that building, and now the current restaurant doesn't quite seem like the building was originally intended for its current occupants? That was my impression here. This is our first time here in Sanibel, so I have no idea what used to be here, but it definitely seems like this building was originally intended for some other restaurant or business.
