This place really turned around in regards to food! We went mid-week in April 2024 and the island is still rebuilding so there weren't many customers. Our server was friendly and observant which can be a rare thing. Some of the original kitsch is still there, but it's awkwardly displayed on the California version of sad beige mom decor. It's a cool building and should lean into its design and architecture a little better. (Built in 1986, but styled after the 1950s casual dining) Fried mushroom fries were very tasty and not oily. Light batter, good flavor! The burgers! Honestly, we haven't been here since 2007, that's how bad they used to be. New management now so we tried again. So glad we did! Very nicely done. I can see them moving the 'sundae' bar closer to the dining area at some point. It's on the other side of the entrance with the host stand between and now an actual bar in the middle of the restaurant. When the island gets popping again, they'll have little kids running from the tables thru all the people waiting to be seated to get to that sundae bar. read more

First of all, I was absolutely blown away by the service. Not only were they polite, but made me feel extremely welcome the second I step foot into this establishment. The mozzarella sticks had the best cheese pull I have ever layed my eyes on, and the delectable breaded goodness on the outside just blew me away. Moving on to the main course, the burgers were to DIE FOR. It was exactly what you would picture from a good American burger, AND THE FRIES OH MY GOODNESS!!! they were perfectly cooked and salted. Last but most certainly not least, the shakes were amazing. I ordered the brownie batter shake(which I highly recommend) and not only was the shake rich and creamy, the fricken whipped cream was handmade, and you could tell. All around, this was one of the best, if not the best places I have ever stumbled into, and I will happily give this place a greatly deserved five stars! Went there for the 1st time last night. The Classic burger was cooked perfectly and juicy. Hand cut fries were very good. And you have to try their yummy milkshakes! Lisa got the novice burger with pickles. Ketchup and mustard are on the tables. I also got the fries/onion ring combo. The single said it fed one person so I got the double. Holy Crap! That's alot of fries and onion rings. Both were very good. Prices seemed reasonable especially considering you're on an island that charges a toll to cross the bridge. YUMMY! I haven't been to a Cheeburger in YEARS! I visited a Cheeburger once while traveling in Tennessee. I remember being a teenager & being in love with this place. I remember loving the taste of food, the decor, the shakes! When I found myself on Sanibel & hungry before we headed home I used trusty Yelp for a suggestion & there is was! Cheeburger Cheeburger! I called ahead & ordered to-go. They did not disappoint, I walked in, they began to make the shakes we ordered & the food was ready shortly thereafter. Their Oreo (cookies & cream) shake as well as their traditional chocolate shake were so good! The shakes come in 2 sizes, a kids size which is small & some where around 2.60+/- & the large that is around 6+. My daughter & I split the serious burger with the works. We asked them to cut it in half & they did without an issue. We ordered fries & onion rings, so both of us having a burger would have been too much. We ended up sharing the onion ring & fries with our friends. They had a serious burger & a western burger (all 8oz before cooking). They hadn't been there ever & they loved it too. The staff was so so nice, they were patient & kind no matter how many things I asked for or changed my mind about while taking my order. To be honest we originally ate here in 1993 when they were at their old location and it made a good impression on my then young family. We came down now with a grandchild and decided to see if it was on par with our memories. Happy to report that it held up very well the "new" digs are a step up and the food and service were a-ok. I had the semi-serious which is a 1/3 pound of seasoned ground beef....a huge patty for sure. The toppings/ sauces are all to order which makes for some really good eating. My husband and I were pretty excited to come here and were unfortunately very disappointed. We got Buffalo chicken appetizers and after eating most of them absentmindedly, we noticed the last one was incredibly raw. Since I'm pregnant, I had to go to the bathroom and make myself throw up to avoid harming my baby. On top of that, they got my husband's order wrong, which by itself Isn't a big deal but raw chicken and a wrong order can piss anyone off. They gave us the chicken for free and free sodas, which to be honest doesn't feel like it makes up for forcing myself to vomit in a public restroom to avoid literally poisoning my baby. The only reason I'm giving it two stars was because the overall aesthetic of the place was wicked cute, our waitress was very sweet, and their onion rings are good. But to be honest I wouldn't recommend this place. There's plenty of other restaurants on Sanibel that probably won't give you raw chicken. I've been coming to Cheeburger for years with my family and friends. I love the old school, retro vibe of the decor in the restaurant. I got fried pickles as an appetizer, and they were good, but I wish they were a little crispier and had less breading. As a drink, I had a peanut butter and Oreo milkshake, which was amazing. I then customized my own Semi-Serious sized burger. It tasted good, however I asked for it to be cooked medium, and all the burgers looked to be well-done instead. I love this place!! 50's retro theme complete with oldies music and Elvis, James Dean, and Marilyn decor. The inside is a super cool round shaped building that is just fun. We stopped in literally 20 minutes before they closed, not realizing they closed so early. They were so nice and said it was totally fine, and and not once did they make us feel rushed. This place is awesome because of the endless free burger toppings. I will say it does cost slightly more for caramelized onions, and mushrooms, and bacon, but regardless, it's not very much and there are so many other free options (including coleslaw!). I paid extra for bacon, which was thick, crispy and delicious. I also got peanut butter, pickled jalapeno, and mayo(all free). I know this combo sounds cray cray, but it was effing delicious!!! A small platter of fries will feed 4 people easily, and they are pretty cheap. We tried a couple dipping sauces, marshmallow and nacho cheese (we had sweet potato fries too). The marshmallow had a weird cinnamon taste and odd texture. The cheese was neon. So, both of those were a no go and I would say completely unnecessary anyway. Sanibels Secret! This old fashioned nostalgic diner is tucked away on Periwinkle in a corner shopping mall. From the outside it's plain but filled with magic inside. It's in the Tahitian Garden shopping center. I was unsure what door was the right since there's no sign- (owner if you read this- posting Food photos on the door with sign would help tourists immensely.) BUT LET ME TELL YOU YELPERS!!!! GO HERE!!! The food was spectacular! They have transformed this bland outside into an amazing 1950's experience and you get amazing food and service. I got a cheeseburger- identical to the menu photo with a one person side of fries and onion rings that my husband and I easily shared. Had dinner here on our trip to Sanibel. You can build your own burger with many choices. We both decided to go with one of the favorites. I got the Bleu Buffalo which was amazing!! It was messy so I used my fork to keep from getting the buffalo sauce on my top. My sister had the Fiesta burger and loved it. It was also very messy so she used a fork as well. It was well after lunch time but we were anxious to get to Sanibel Island so didn't stop to eat until we arrived and ended up stopping here. The name really describes the majority of food offerings -- hamburgers or cheeseburgers. However, there are a few other items on the menu but not many. Milkshakes are pretty popular and just about every flavor you could think of is available. After we were seated, we waited quite a little bit for our server to approach the table. The other couple we were with were sharing a salad, cheeseburger and fries. The salad was brought with only one fork so they also shared the fork. The angus cheeseburgers and fries were excellent. It's a good old fashioned burger with any topping you desire. We all tasted the coleslaw and none of us liked it. It was very different and we never would have known it was coleslaw had we not been told. We had quite a wait again to get the server back to our table with the bill and then quite another wait getting her back to process our payment. We would return even though the service wasn't great.
