It's central and convenient enough of a location to meet up with friends, but it's also on the outskirts of the international district. That means it's not quite as busy and street parking is free! (Hopefully it stays that way!) The Loco Moco is super rich and yummy. I don't wanna know how much butter was involved, but it was pretty good. I thought it was seasoned very well, and the meatloaf was not too salty. The sauce they use is just really good. I asked for my eggs over easy, and it's just perfect with the meatloaf, spam, and rice. It's inspiring me to go home and attempt making my own Hawaiian fusion food. Green tea pancakes were kinda unique, since I have never had them. My friend said that it has more green tea flavor if you eat it first before the Loco Moco. It comes with eggs and bacon, pretty standard. I'd suggest trying more of the Hawaiian foods. Definitely going to come back to try the other dishes! (Especially the Wendy's Fried Rice. We decided to finally go upon recommendation of a good friend who said this place was kid friendly. Upon walking in, the decor was cute and funky. It made me smile. The staff was very helpful in recommending something that my picky toddler son would enjoy. The dumplings were so good that not only did my son eat a whole dumpling himself, I wish we had ordered two plates of it. My husband ordered the meatloaf loco moco which soooo hit the spot for some comfort food. My fish and chips came with sweet potato fries which my son also loved! The spicy tartar sauce was also an excellent twist on the original. Not only was the food good but our waiter was always reminding us that the food was hot (as it should be) and to allow it to breath before serving it to our son. He even played with him a bit each time he passed by. Overall, the food was fantastic with its fusion twists on originals. The food reminded me of places or times I can reminisce about. My boyfriend and I tried: Spicy (kimchi) mac n cheese, Sweet chili wings, okonomiyaki, cheeky burger, and the meatloaf loco moco. My faves were the mac n cheese, cheeky burger, and the sweet chili wings. The okonomiyaki was a little more dense than I usually like, but still tasty. Cheeky Cafe is just that - cheeky, but in a good way. The space is bright with lots of windows and while the parking options are street only, there's plenty of that. Came here on Friday with a friend as this spot was conveniently located between our workplaces. She got the macaroni and cheese and kimchi with a side of potato fries, I got the okonomiyaki and regular fries. Prior to going to Cheeky Cafe my co-worker had told me the mac and cheese wasn't that cheesey, and unfortunately he was right. Props to the restaurant though, spicy cabbage and cheesey pasta are hard to get right and in this case the cheese succumbed to the kimchi kick. Keep working on it though! The okonomiyaki on the other hand came out very tasty but with one flaw - the menu noted it has tender slices of beef in it. Hmmm must be so tender I couldn't find any! Don't get me wrong I still think it was good but I would have liked to have seen more meat in it. Oh and skip the regular fries, they aren't that good but for several of the dishes some people may want to add a side salad or potato fries for a little bit more. I'd like to come back here in the future to try more of their food items though! Suggestions welcome! read more

I had brunch here a couple months ago but today, I went to this contemporary diner for lunch. With fleur-de-lis gracing the presence of seat cushions and the contrasts of teal (or is it turquoise?) browns, and pastel yellow, the inside is almost stunning. The kalua pulled pork sandwich ate today came with a mango salsa and sweet potato fries. (You can never go wrong with sweet potato fries.) Now, the sweet salsa should have balanced the salty flavor from the pork. But... it didnt. The mangos were small diced, tossed in some lime juice and red pepper flakes. I don't know about you, but that is not a salsa. Salsa needs to be chunky monkey! Hopefully the mangos they ordered were just not ripened because it could have been a great sandwich. Might I give a suggestion? Perhaps you should go for the original pulled pork sandwich with a sweet and savory sauce. It might work out to your liking better. I've heard great things on the meatloaf and mac n cheese as well. And at brunch, you might want to try the chicken and the egg sandwich. Or you could start with dessert first and order a basket full of cookies! You know your kid would love that! This place is good. Definitely stop by give this place some love. read more

Cheeky gets 2 stars from me! The additional star goes to the wonderful service they provided my large group!! I ordered the Onesies with the stuff french toast and my bf ordered the meatloaf loco moco. The berry stuff french toast was super.. uh.. dry? Oily? Crunchy? I don't know how to explain it. It was as if someone had deep fried the french toast after layering the interior with berries and cream. I think it lacked syrup and powder sugar, oh.. and flavor. The loco moco was pretty standard. Two slices of meatloaf over gravy, rice, and a sunny side egg. Kind of bland for my taste. I think Rainbow Drive (a fast food drive) in Hawaii has better loco moco then here. Love this place! So far every food I've tried is ridiculously yummy. But my favorite by far are the cheese pancakes :D I know it sounds very weird but you honestly just have to try it and your mind will be blown, guaranteed. The service is great and the staff are very friendly. The coffee here is also very good! I usually get an iced hazelnut latte. I absolutely love this place! I used to drive all the way from Issaquah to have brunch here, this past week I moved to the apartments ONE block away. (no I didn't move to be closer, it was just an added bonus). They will be seeing me VERY regularly. Their breakfasts are amazing ... I love their chicken fried steak, any of their egg dishes, their pasta carbonara is delicious in the AM or PM, and my friends cannot get enough of their french toast. I also love their warm fry bread ... delicious! The only problem I've had was one time we wanted fruit and they were out of it. Small little bump, no big deal. I highly recommend their side house salad with balsamic, very delicious! Service is very kind and prompt. The decor is super cute. This place is a nice, casual, clean restaurant. It's located in a cute little neighborhood. The staff are very friendly, the food comes out fairly quickly, and the food itself is pretty tasty! Think American food with an Asian twist (I guess you could call it fusion). We had the spicy mac with kimchee to start off, which was tasty, not too heavy or creamy, and had a nice kick to it. Not the best thing in the world, but very enjoyable. I also had the burger, which was nice and juicy. My friend had the spam grilled cheese, which he said was very tasty. Cute place that I want to love, really I want to. The service was great but the food was ho hum. We were brought a basket of fried won tons. A very nice gesture but we found them oily and the sauce too sweet. We ordered the dumplings that had gotten high marks. I found them akin to frozen fried dumplings. They were tasteless and oily although the chewy texture was good. I ordered udon, with beef, cabbage, onions and carrots. What I got was a pile of udon noodles that were on the oily side with very few veggies. My husband ordered the fried rice with Portuguese sausage which was also oily and very ho hum. So there are a couple of things that I think Cheeky should consider changing: 1. Less oil. 2. More veggies and overall color. Our table had a series of beige food. 3. Smaller portions. I get that cheeky's going for a 'comfort food' vibe but that does not mean you need to serve troughs of food. My husbands rice portion was enough to feed a family of at least 5-6. My udon was the same. Quality, not quantity equals comfort. We live a couple of blocks away and really want Cheeky to succeed, so while it's unlikely we'll go for dinner again, we might try brunch. read more

First off, our waiter was awesome. Extremely friendly, but sincere. His service was great even though he was the only one serving. The food was really good, everyone enjoyed what they got. I like to judge a place on their chicken fried steak, and I will be returning here for theirs. Cheeky has been in the neighborhood for about a year now, and I can say that it's just gotten better and better. I don't live in Seattle but make it a point to go there whenever I can. I've lived in New York City and Cheeky can measure up to the culinary mastery that is found there. Service is pleasant and the food is varied and the decor is awesome. My SO and I finally made it to Cheeky Cafe today for brunch. Pros: SUPER cute decor, bright and clean. Friendly servers. Menu items that are unique. Large portions. Cons: The dishes we ordered were somewhat hit-or-miss and the bf had to remind our server that he'd ordered an Americano, after waiting 10 minutes for it. I had the loco moco, which is meatloaf, gravy and egg served over plain white rice. The meatloaf was quite good - a bit of spice and very moist. The gravy was uninspired and bland - it seemed like plain chicken broth that had cornstarch added to it. The boy had french toast, scrambled eggs and bacon. French toast: delish. Eggs: cooked perfectly. Bacon: like sucking on a salt lick. I need to go back and try their dinner options - it seems like it might be their stronger suit. read more

Didn't quite live up to my expectations, but then again, they're high when it comes to new and daring food genres, like Korean-Japanese American-Southern comfort food. Cheeky seems a little out of place for Jackson street, but in a good way. The interior is bright and inviting, as is the cute signage and intriguing sidewalk message board advertising bakery and brunch specials. And it's super new and clean; spanking clean, which is a welcome rarity in this "emerging" neighborhood of mine. I visited Cheeky for take-out, but while I waited enjoyed a nice glass of wine while chatting with the friendly server (the guy with the black and orange striped hair, didn't catch his name). I asked for his recommendation and he confirmed what I'd already suspected he would: the meatloaf and egg over rice. This was served with a side of delicious gravy, and homemade barbecue sauce. I also ordered a side of the kimchee mac and cheese. From the reviews, this seemed like their signature dish. The food was good, if a bit on the colorless side. The meatloaf especially could have visually benefitted from a sprinkling of chives and/or flaked red pepper. But the loaf was perfectly spiced, set off by the rich gravy. There was a little too much rice, and the portion was enough for three servings. Maybe the large portions go along with comfort food, but I'd like something more manageable, especially if I was eating in. The kimchi mac and cheese was disappointing. It's an ingenious flavor combination, but I would have preferred a little more kimchi vs. pasta. The texture was passable, and it wasn't especially cheesy. I think they could have done more with this dish to spice it up, make it a little different, or at the very least upped the rich/creamy comfort factor. The food genre reminded me a bit of Fort St. George (on the west end of the ID, on Main Street and 4th, I think), which I should really review next. I am looking forward to returning for brunch; the choices seem tempting and the fusion of Asian fruit (kumquat, coconut, mango) with traditional American pancakes and waffles sound yummy. read more

One of my favorite brunch places to go to. They have a great selection of culinary goodness. I was first introduced to Cheeky when my wife brought home a leftover box of kimchi Mac & cheese. I had to go back and try it out and wow, it's excellent! Today I tried their meatloaf sandwich. Manna from heaven! You get a nice portion of meatloaf on a baguette, with an excellent BBQ sauce with a nice kick and a bed of Yam fries, very tasty! The staff is friendly, and kid friendly. Either they'll be busy coloring or playing board games which they have in the corner of the restaurant. They have wifi so just ask for the code. A cheeky, good choice for a casual bite. I had the "cheeky burger" with a vegetarian patty and the tomato soup. The soup and burger were both tasty, though the burger was especially messy. It's made with an oatmeal-based patty that crumbled as soon as I picked it up. Do not order this burger on a first date if you aim to impress. Or do if your date is into that sort of thing. The decor is informal and bright with a sky blue and sunny yellow color scheme. It also has an interesting combination of modern touches (Ikea lamp and bird cutout wall) contrasted by more traditional decor that reminds me of my aunt's living room (display cabinet holding framed family photos). I've been super excited about having a new restaurant in the neighborhood. I walk past the Cheeky Cafe on my way to work and have been impressed with the development of the space. The cute the design made my expectations high so I was a bit worried I might be setting myself up for disappointment by going on opening night. I'm happy to say that was not the case! We had the delicious grandma kam's dumplings as an appetizer and for dinner the french dip and curry rice, both of which were fantastic. They brought our daughter out a non-spicy version of their mac and cheese, an apple slice, chocolate chip cookie, and fresh squeezed orange juice. My only small complaint was the ramekin for the au jus was a little small so the yummy Vietnamese bun soaked up all the goodness before my second half of the sandwich. Very happy with the experience, both the he service and food were nearly perfect. Highly recommended! Geraldine's Counter has set the bar for comfort food in the area but I think we might be seeing the emergence of a Central District contender with Cheeky Cafe! read more

We were there at 10am on Sunday for breakfast. We were the second party in and the staff seemed happy to be working. We're a party of 4 adults and a preschooler. They offerred to push 3 two-tops together, but we offerred to sit at just 2 pushed together. In retrospect, we should have done three. Their tables aren't all level, so the preschooler was teetered a bit. Their menu was nice, with some comforting options, some which were a play on a standard (i.e. spam and eggs, mac-n-cheese w/ kim chee, pancake filling options that included green tea). The kid's menu was cute, half a sheet of paper with an adorable bird to color, but held only three choices, all which were lunchy, not breakfasty. We ended up ordering an adult meal and taking 1/2 home. Our party was conservative. We ordered a quiche of the day (delicious) that came with a nice salad, chicken sausage patties on the side, the stuffed french toast (HUGE and tasted like dessert for breakfast - yummy). Three of us selected "the onesie" which was one egg, one strip of bacon and one cake or french toast piece. I believe we had one plain pancake and know the other two were chocolate chip and banana+chocolate chip. EVERYTHING was delicious. I would totally go here again. I would love to have the cookies for breakfast or try the fry bread, but next time, I will have the fried peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I can't wait! read more

I had the Cheeky French Toast, and I have to say that was one of th best french toasts ive ever had. The outside of this three layered french toast was crisped perfectly, while the inside was warm and moist stuffed with an amazing blend of cream and your choice of fruit or peanut butter. I came here for brunch and was pleased to find there were plenty of tables. The waitstaff was super friendly and service was prompt. The atmosphere is casual - nothing fancy - and good for small groups or just solo (I brought my laptop and got some work done). First things first: SO DELICIOUS. EVERY TIME. Pros: They take reservations. It's easy to get a same day reservation even on a Sunday morning. Super friendly staff. Library of board games to play while you wait. Perfect amount of selections on the menu in my opinion (not overwhelming or too few). They serve breakfast booze. Cons: I've only been for Sunday brunch, but the food takes awhile. Just long enough for you to think "This is taking forever!" and then your food will arrive and you'll feel like an ass. Despite the friendly staff, it can be difficult getting anything besides food or your first drink order. It took asking 3 different servers to get white sugar delivered to the table for coffee. I've been to this restaurant several times in the last 2 years and just wish I liked it more than I do. I love the decor and think the restaurant itself is really cute, but the food is just ok. I've tried several main dish items (fish n chips, veggie meatloaf, kimchi mac and cheese) and none of it has been great. (Although I did have a side salad with balsamic vinaigrette with my meal this last visit and that was very tasty.) The people who work here seem nice, no complaints there. Shared the following dishes with some friends for dinner pre-Sounders game: Loco Moco, Yaki Udon, Okonomiyaki, and Grandma's Dumplings. Overall: Hawaiian Japanese food would be a better category than Asian fusion for this restaurant. Laid back atmosphere and good for families. The tables and decor were cute but bordering on austere (hard chairs and fast-food like setting). Seems well suited for families with young children since all the food items on the menu seem appetizing to eat for picky eaters (it's mostly comfort food). Service was fast since there were only a few customers on a Friday evening. Great place to go if Chinatown is packed with the usual pre-game crowd. Food: Of dishes we ordered from the Loco Moco was the best. Delicious gravy, and add an extra egg if you're sharing. The hamburger patty was well seasoned and the gravy was a white sauce as opposed to the usual brown. Yaki udon and Okonomiyaki were sub-par. My Japanese friend noted that it tasted like they used the same sauce from okonomiyaki to cook the yaki udon, so the flavor was too overpowering. Okonomiyaki was a bit thick and needed more of the crunchy/chewy texture of cabbage filling. Dumplings were good, but could use with a bit more filling to balance out the crispy fried shell that was pretty thick. Re-visit? I would come again to get the Loco Moco and try out other dishes.
